People dont appreciate what it took to paddle out there solo for 10 years before anyone had ever heard of Mavericks. Before tow in, PWC, safety vests, we are talking solo here! Congrats Jeff, mad respect and props brother.
@@MrJohanOne that is correct. Jeff paddled out there by himself for 10 years! There was no boats, no PWC, no one. Just Jeff surfing all alone out there. That is what I was referring to in my original comment. Life out on the edge, so beautiful and amazing.

Another excellent video. Love the film speed and choice of music, it matches the ominous aura of Mavericks: Cold, Gray, and Titanic, whoa Nelly! Thumbs Up!
Beautiful vid' of maybe the most iconic big wave place in the world. For me, Maverick is most important than Nazare, Teahupoo or Jaws. Mavericks is Beautiful and really scary and the surfers who ride these mountains are heroes.
What a terrifying place to surf massive waves that are also extremely powerful. The cold water temps, poor weather, dangerous water conditions, dangerous rocks and the potential of large great whites in dark water scares the piss out of me. Do any of these guys believe in those black and white designs on boards that are supposed to minimize the chances of a shark attack?
I hate that wave. One of the hardest to get into, unless you have yrs to devote to it. Peaks stand straight up on the drop. Both times Ive up there, got my preverbal ass handed to me. I did get a dozen or so great backside rights, back geez!!! Not for some 16 yrs old Grom with a 6’6” tater-chip I’ll promise you that. I have 2 10’7” Guns, and was glad to have had them.very tight knot crew too. Hold downs are the worst I have ever encountered.
The dude on the orange board wasn’t having a good day 😯 Most of the vids of Mavericks I’ve watched seems like it’s a steep drop & most ride it out straight with the occasional bottom turn. Also, it appears people take off further down the line & not at the peak itself & I wonder if it’s the camera angle .... hard to determine without being in the water I guess .... One thing for sure, it breaks REALLY hard & combined with the overcast, it looks spooky as hell.
Mostly just getting near the bowl is scary, it's so treacherous. The dude on the Orange board was going for it on his first session ever out there - featured in this video. He's a well accomplished surfer and has rode one of the biggest waves in South Africa in recent memory. Try looking up his name to see Fabian Campagnolo
Powerlines Productions Putting things into perspective ...my home break may get 12-14’ which is scary as fuck. Been held down in that to where I thought it was over. These guys are on a whole other level. 40-50’ wave races is ridiculous. How do they not drown ?
