Hope you guys enjoyed this retro duel! Drop a like if you did! 👍🏾 We're going to be doing this series with all of the classic 25th anniversary Yu-Gi-Oh sets if we can get them, so expect the next one (Spell Ruler) very soon! Dueling with Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon - ua-cam.com/video/YHCtmaD0HUg/v-deo.html
I would definitely recommend in sets like this if you pull a fusion to be allowed polymerization and 1 copy each of the fusion materials especially if they are not in the set like the red eyes so we could potentially see some of these cool cards summoned
You could literally redo all these retro duels weekly and I'd still watch. I haven't played Yugioh since these days, eternal duelist soul is STILL in my original GBA. Thanks for the great content!
Duuuuuuuude, I miss Eternal Duelist Soul!!! My GBA got lost during a move years ago and it made me so sad. I used to go between that and Metroid Fusion religiously haha Good times
No lie, these retro duels are so much more fun to watch rather than the special summon 18 monsters first turn and read a 5000 word essay written on each card
idk man, as much as i love diving into the nostalgia, for me its the exact opposite. Atleast the modern game has a unique identity separate from the rest of the industry. Oldschool yugioh is just watered down magic the gathering with horrendous balancing.
So true, loved Yugioh as a kid and recently started collecting again as a side hobby - the cards are so over powered/complex and duelling is a joke when duelling competitively… unfortunately i dont think there is any going back now 😢
Video Idea: All YuGiOh characters' names on the wheel and whoever spin the wheel and land on a certain character, you will have all access to character's deck. Say if Paul got Mai Valentine, Paul got all Mai's decks he can work with to face his opponent. If both players got the same character in the wheel, they can work something out in the deck. For example: Paul and Alec got Yugi Muto, Paul can use Dark Magician Deck and Alec can use Silent Swordsman Deck.
I'll admit that I have been Magic the Gathering snob who's been dismissive of other TCGs for years. Your videos have convinced me that Yu-gi-oh is actually fun and interesting. Especially these throwbacks to cards from when I actually played Yu-gi-oh as a kid.
The step from LOB and mostly useless vanillas, to MRD and all the different mechanics and effects (as well as higher ATK on lv4s) really was incredible. A real boost
I randomly came across this video. This was my first yu gi oh set. Everyone was playing magic the gathering and my friend and I wanted to try something new so we started playing yu gi oh. Metal raiders was our first set. This brought back a lot of memories thanks for this video. I enjoyed it a lot.
Electric Lizard stuns non-zombie monsters due to it being part of Bakura's deck, which contains a lot of demons and zombies, they just wanted to create a synergy with those monsters.
I think it's more the early Yu-Gi-Oh trying to treat the types like they meant something other than just a variable in the strategy, like the manga/anime. "My zombies can't feel pain so they're immune to the electric shock of your lizard!" Like how Umi weakens machine types because water is bad for metal and computers.
@TVlord5 I'd say we said the same thing with different explanations as you said the manga/anime used to give cards weird interactions due to the freedom they had since there was no official product yet and I think it's great that nowadays those decisions are mentioned in some cards, a valid example is the new metalmorph trap card that coats the player's monster in an magic resisting armour, the same mentioned by Keith Howard in the manga. Yu-Gi-Oh! Is an amazing franchise and I wish I could say the same for the card game...
yeah its kinda sad we never get to see these flashy cards that used to be playground treasures. Give Twin-headed, the menace of speedrunners around the globe, its time to shine!
@@ich3730 It was arguably the first actual Fusion strategy since Thunder Dragon searches you out the 2 copies needed to make Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon and all you'd need is Polymerization in-hand. I honestly think just let them be used as Vanillas so they can be showcased. Black Skull Dragon is only slightly stronger than Blue-Eyes while all the others except maybe Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon are on par with the other 1 and 2 tribute lower rarity vanillas.
I was with Yugioh all the way before the starter decks and packs even hit the US streets. My first pack was Japanese Pharoahs Servant, which I picked up at a card shop and I still have. I remember MR really started to expand what we could with decks outside the predictable starter decks, and Magic Ruler/Spell Ruler again upped the deck building. This is total nostalgia for an OG player and collector like me, lol. Thanks for taking me back 20 years lol.
So glad the channel is going back to the first days of yugioh! The rare hunters series is always great fun to watch a few times a year. I would say 100% definitely use polymerization and the proper fusion materials needed to make whatever fusion cards are pulled. This would make the duels even more fun than they already are!
This was my favorite set for....ever? It felt like the first actual YGO set, considering Legend of the Blue Eyes was 95% normal monsters only non-named Duelist Kingdom players would use. My first pack of Metalraiders scored me a Pumpking, and it wasn't even the rare! The whole world suddenly opened up, you could actually make a good deck without a premade!
Hello, I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh player from China, my favorite is the Ice Enchantment, and I also play live Twins and Choppers, I was watching your handling video on our domestic bilibili platform when I first entered the pit a few years ago, and your video brought me a lot of fun, thank you very much
Hello, back around 2003-2005, I used to watch Yugioh when I got home from work because there was nothing else on at that time. I ended up liking it and had no idea that it was an actual game. Years later around 2019 I got my son and daughter to start watching the show and they started collecting cards. They would play each other, but I don’t think they were playing it the correct way . My son is now 17 and he still collects the cards. I have him for the month of July. Can you recommend a video on UA-cam, so that I can learn to play? I think it is something that we will both enjoy.
HardLeg Gaming's youtube playlist of tutorials (Dark Hole elementary, Skill Drain high, Upstart Goblin university) is a pretty good starting place in terms of explaining things well. It's almost a decade old tho now, so it doesn't cover everything. For future reference, some things that have been added/changed since then are: -link monsters were added -pendulum monsters work somewhat differently (worse) -the field layout itself has changed somewhat (some zones have been added and/or moved) -there have been various changes to some of the more in-depth rules that don't come up as often
This was amazing! Man, Metal Raiders really had some great cards to hit with without tributing or with fun gimmicks to attack life points and hands. Sword of Dee-Seated is still one of my favorite equipped cards lol
The reason electric lizard wouldn't stop a zombie is because Frankenstein's monster was given life by lightning. For that same reason flesh golems in D&D get powered up when dealt lightning damage.
I think electric lizard was one of those odd crossover cards from when they wanted the game to feel like the manga while also having zero clue what kind of balancing they would put into the game. Flavor wise, it makes sense for a Zombie to be immune to paralysis.

It kinda makes sense that Electric Lizard's ability excludes Zombie types, since you can't electrically stun dead things. Of course, you could spell out different effects for lots of other monster types, but you don't want to fill that whole box with text, do you? (Incidentally, I really miss when Yugioh monsters had this kind of individual flavor instead of being forced into archetypal mechanics or loaded with arbitrary immunities and search effects. 7:53 because konami wanted to create archetypes that always have one weakness. The funny thing is that zombie monsters got a power boost, cause konami always prioritised the zombie archetypes, because the non effect zombies had bad stats compared to other types.
That only happened because the og anime/manga used zones where different types had different strenghts and weaknesses. Dont quote me on that tho, haven't read the manga in a long time

Great job with these editing changes! Amazing work guys keep it up
Alec trying to speed run this
7:53 because konami wanted to create archetypes that always have one weakness. The funny thing is that zombie monsters got a power boost, cause konami always prioritised the zombie archetypes, because the non effect zombies had bad stats compared to other types.
That only happened because the og anime/manga used zones where different types had different strenghts and weaknesses. Dont quote me on that tho, haven't read the manga in a long time
GBA nostalgia music! Iykyk
These duels are making me crave a yugioh cube format. having a perfected cube of metal raiders and LoBE sounds so good 😩
I'd love for you to take the starter decks, metal raiders and lob to create decks that people would have had see the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh
