Nobody ever talks about how close Henry V was in completing taking over France and becoming king of France if only he lived for 2 more months it would’ve happened
Basically James I/V’s mother married the king of France at the time. However he died of something in his ear before they had a child. Supposing they did have a child before he died, and history remained unaltered, a French James I would of inherited France, then Scotland, then England
These British monarch stories are amazing! From Alfred the Great’s battles to Elizabeth II’s big changes, history is full of surprises. I’ve got a video about some surprising presidential assassination attempts you might like. What did you find most interesting about the monarchs in this video?
Empress Maud was declared Queen of England and she’s missing in the list except for a little mention. And King Louis isn’t there either. He was proclaimed too. Poor Queen Jane, she’s not mentioned either.
Matilda was never formally crowned, she was in the city of London/Westminster and the lords decided they weren't in the mood to take orders from a woman, so they rebelled and chased her off.
Pre Cromwell Alfred the Great for me was the most impressive, his story is truly remarkable and well worth reading about. Post Cromwell I'd say Elizabeth II, nobody is perfect but for me she conducted herself amazingly, with dignity and grace and was everything a figerhead should be.
William really had no business becoming king. He only did so because Mary didn't want to bother with most queenly duties after she committed treason by chasing her king father and his rightful heir out of the country. What an absolutely wretched daughter.
He could have claimed it through right of conquest and half did. They were joint rulers being both king and queen. When it came to deciding each of them said the other should rule so they decided to split it

Hard to tell, but there’s potential for William to be a unifying figure like George V, whose dad aka Victoria’s son was disliked for his colourful love life and largely prioritising himself, while George V was known for prioritising his family and his country, ending the ‘tradition’ of having a mistress and largely shaping the royal family to be as approachable as it is rn
You didn't even mention Jane Grey... the Nine Day's Queen...! She might not have reigned for very long.. but she should've gotten at least a little side note in your video!
Girly pops, funny how it never dawned on you that England was a KINGdom for a reason. The English throne is reserved for men, ONLY for men. Matilda was disputed, she’s not liked by the english people either, only some parts. Also, Jane is no where near a Queen. Jane was a usurper, funny how y’all forget about Henry VIII’s succession act 😂 After Edward is Mary. Don’t besmirch our history with filth. A usurper will always be a usurper and a disputed claimant will always be disputed.😂
It would have been so much nicer if you had added just a quick comment on each as to how they were related to the previous monarch: son, daughter, cousin, sibling, etc. Also you left out Lady Jane Grey.

True and I fear that can’t be topped, until Charles III and his son William pass an early death. Making Prince George a king at a very young age , assuming he would rule for a long time without illness ( which I don’t wish for .)
Until 1603 this should be called 'English' monarchs. There is no 'British' crown until the Union of England and Scotland, which took the Scottish line of succession.
Lol, Matilda and Jane were never Queens. Matilda was disputed and not Crowned. On the other hand, Jane was a usurper, funny how y’all seem to forget about henry VIII’s succession act which puts mary after edward. Don’t besmirch our history with filth and propaganda.
I like Charles III, but he hasn't had enough time as Sovereign to leave a strong legacy. That said, it would be inappropriate to judge him. So, I would say my two favourites are Queen Elizabeth II and King George VI.
Yeah, most historians afaik expect him to be a ‘transitional’ king, which Charles supposedly doesn’t love-tbf considering all the years he’s worked in conservation and stuff to be called a transition only lol
Nobody ever talks about how close Henry V was in completing taking over France and becoming king of France if only he lived for 2 more months it would’ve happened
They would have split off like austria and spain under the habsburgs from the administrative strain of the king managing two kingdoms at once

Matilda was in fact never queen she lost the anarchy to Stephen but her son was king though
That’s because their reign is still disputed by historians so it’s always tricky whether to add them or not.

Just an aside…. Mary II was why William even became king. The throne came through her but this video kind of frames it like it was William.
He was actually third in the line of succession after Anne being the son of King James II's sister.
