Caesar had the original 112, but also was exposed to 113 when he gave it to the rest in the shelter.
Caesar was also the only one who had received any real education. He was taught While growing up with the drug already in his system. The others had just been exposed and still had much to learn. While the drug enhanced their brains, it did not make them automatically geniuses. It simply gave them the ability to learn and remember faster, and gave them critical thinking skills. They deferred to Caesar because he still knew more and they were now smart enough to realize it.
That is why Caesar was the leader, he had been educated and could plan better than the rest.
Cesar isn’t mad at him. He understands that he can’t protect him and that he has to do for himself.
Caesar knows Will isn't his actual father but still respects him for raising him, even if he couldn't protect him. it makes sense now that Will was only lightly referenced in dawn and is in the background of Caesar's story. I was always pissed on why Caesar didn't say goodbye to Will in a sentimental way, but when they stand eye to eye, it's because Apes now have the same freedom that humans have
Missed the end credit scene. Tells you how the apes gained the upper hand
When you’ve established that there is a virus loose that makes apes smarter and kills most humans, I feel like it’s simple enough to deduce what happens next even without the Outbreak montage.

As a virus not only are the humans dying around the world. Any human who works with apes in a zoo, or research facility, or in the jungle makes THOSE apes smart.

I'm SO PROUD of you guys starting with the original 1968 classic FIRST before jumping to this. It is a great movie in it's own right, and now you are teed up for these modern movies which are amazing. They only get better from here.
I thought the consensus was that they should watch the first two or three from the original franchise before starting on the newer ones?

They watched the first film from 1968, so they will be in good shape for most of the references. Some of the original sequels aren't that good, and I don't think anyone wants them to labor through that.
@@76063co2 That was what I gathered from reading the comments after the first one. People agreed they went downhill after . . . maybe the third? Not sure. Anyway, if you think they're good to go for these from seeing the original, then I'm glad. I never got around to seeing this one so certainly can't argue what's the best order to see them. Cheers!

@@76063co2 Agreed. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, love sci-fi, and even I find the originals a little bit of a chore to watch. I can understand that they have a nostalgia factor for some who grew up with them, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they hold up for modern viewers. During this review, you can tell that J&A *kind of* enjoyed the original but weren't really excited enough by it to get into the sequels. And for folks who are worried that they won't get certain easter eggs or references in the new films if they don't watch the old ones first, they didn't even recognize the infamous lines that Malfoy repeated in this one ("It's a madhouse! A madhouse!" and "Get your stinkin' paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"), so I doubt watching the originals would've made any difference. In any event, those sort of refs are fanservice for fans of the original to geek out over but they're not really necessary knowledge for new viewers enjoying this reboot.
Personally, I'm glad they skipped the sequels of the originals, bc I would've skipped those reactions.
Don’t forget, Caesar was smart from the 112 that was passed from his mother but then when he dosed the rest of the apes with the 113, he was inhaling that too and soon after he spoke for the first time

It's very important to understand the 112 and 113 are a virus, not a chemical. This will be important as the story progresses.
112 wasn't a virus. They made 113 a virus to make it overcome the antibodies.

@@x_mau9355The kind of cure in this movie has nothing to do with mRNA. It is explained in the first 10 minutes of the movie. The supposed "cure" is based on gene-therapy wich helps to recreate and repair cells via neurogenesis. Neurogenesis is a natural process in developing a human from an embryo to an adult. So basically they "copied" the natural process of building new cells paticularly for brain cells. The bodys immune defense system then started an overreaction to the newly built cells and created antibodies wich killed them and also the healthy ones.
mRNA ist just a messenger ribonucleic acid wich contains informations about specific proteins necessary to build all kinds of cells including virus cells but also any other cells. So, mRNA is not a form of virus on itsself, but CAN contain build information about the protein structure of a virus, wich was used for the covid-vaccine to tell the immune defense system what to look for. But since you asked in that way, i guess you are an anti-vaxxer, wich means you did not understand how it works. Hope i could help.

You are SOOOO right! To me, he's an amazing talent. I loved watching him as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler in "THE BATMAN."
He deserved Oscar noms for each movie of the trilogy.

Some other nods to the original. Caesars' mom is called Bright Eyes. That's what they called Taylor in the orig.
The line "Its a mad house!" is also from the original.
As well as " Get your filthy stink paws off me you damn dirty ape".
The news paper with Lost In Space is a reference to Taylor's space ship lost in space.
And Caesar was playing with a little Statue of Liberty!
The "Lost in Space" headline was not just a nod to the original but it's an Easter egg. That's going to come into play in the next one. They have been planning this all along.
Specifically, in the original. Whilst Charlston Heston was being hosed (like Caesar was in this film), he was screaming "This is a Mad House" In the event Jay and Amber are reading these.

Facts. Everyone was cheering after the "you damn dirty ape" comment and nod to the original, and then...absolute silence. It was incredible.

One thing I love about this trilogy is that the antagonists are, if not sympathetic, at least relatable. You can get why they are doing what they are doing, even if you don't agree with it. The next two are even better!
The baby ape is "Caesar", and he was motion captured by the same actor who did "Gollum" in "The Lord of the Rings".
In the original series, the story is told of an ape named "Caesar" who led the ape revolt that overtook the human race. (3rd movie: "Escape From the Planet of the Apes")
A fun Easter egg in this movie, that I feel in some way has to come back in this current series is this: During this movie, in the background, there are news reports of astronauts taking off for the first manned flight to Mars. You can't see the astronauts faces, but the ship they are getting on looks like the ship that crashed in the original movie. Plus there was a newspaper with "Lost in space?" as the headline.
Here goes another one of those comments that don't state the most important fact of all: the name of the actor. Just how hard is it to do that?

37:06 I remember this fight between Caesar and Malfoy the first time. The entire audience in the theater went on cheering in the 2011 release. But when the moment Caesar said "NO!", everyone was in shocked and went dead silent in a brief seconds. What an amazing moment!

Did you see the very end part? If not then you missed out on a huge clue. Also, you seemed to miss all of the easter eggs to the 1960s version, bright eyes, madhouse, baboons, damn dirty ape, the hose scene, and much more, including the headline on the newspaper about a missing space crew.
A lot of people don’t notice it but at the end when Caesar turned his back on Jacobs, he looked at Koba and nodded, giving him the ok to push Jacobs off the bridge.
So few reactors, if any, mention that. Such a chilling scene, when one knows the scene in detail. While Ceasar is confronting Jacobs, Koba is nearby, just waiting for his moment, showing how driven he is by his experiences. (also, Koba has to have shown quickly how intelligent and capable he is, for Ceasar to put him in charge of the air assault team).
Caesar is on the 112 and the 113. When He released the 113 at the shelter for the apes, he was exposed to the 113 then as well. So he has a double dose. That is why Caesar gets more intelligent than all of them. His sons become just as smart in the next movies.
This is definitely the beginning of one of the best movie trilogies of all time

One of my favourite moments in this film is when Caesar deliberately steps away from killing Jacobs so that Koba can have his revenge for the years of abuse he'd suffered at Gen-Sys.
I don't think Koba was abused by Gen Sys for very long since he was just recently brought to lab. He was however in and out of testing and other shady organization that worked with apes. I think it highlighted that Caesar didn't like individuals but didn't hate all humans, he didn't want to kill them if he didn't have to. But Koba hated humans and took pleasure in killing them. Its foreshadowing for the future split of ape civilization and how they will deal with all humans.
Watching a parent or other loved one dwindle away and die from Alzheimer’s is the most gut-wrenching thing. 😢😢There are some things worse than death. 😢 maybe one day there really will be a cure. ❤
a dedicated lifestyle, steeped in healthy purpose, is the 'cure'. because disease is not genetic. Disease is a steadfast dedication towards unhealth.

There are lifestyle factors that can influence -- just as there are with heart attacks, cancers, etc -- but there's also a genetic component. As with many diseases with genetic components, you can raise or lower your risk to a small degree -- MAYBE -- but the genetic part of it means you can still end up in the same place at relatively the same age as your relatives, regardless. Regarding Alzheimer's, I know this from personal experience with my wife's family. After watching his father go through many hellish years with Alzheimer's, my FiL has lived a MUCH healthier lifestyle than his father ever did, and his wife has made damned sure of that. He also has done his very best to keep purpose in his life, stay busy, stay mentally and physically active, etc... and yet, at around the same age his father's condition started, he has now started forgetting things and is struggling with his memory well beyond what is normal for a person his age. We can see the decline starting and he can feel it, which is scaring him. Especially hurtful because all the well-meaning advice in the world like yours has made little-to-no difference.
Even in my own family, we have certain health issues that have struck us at roughly the same age regardless of how separately or differently we lived. My mom, for instance, who didn't drink or smoke, had mini-strokes and died of a heart attack at roughly the same age as her mother who was a chain-smoking alcoholic. My mom's comparatively healthier lifestyle may have bought her a year or two but it didn't change the timetable by much. I live WAY healthier than anyone in my family -- don't drink or smoke, exercise, do yoga, meditate, eat healthy AF (with tons of research) -- and yet my blood pressure has spiked at the same age my mom's did, my same knee is deteriorating at the same age hers did, etc. Lifestyle changes help but genetics is always the captain of the boat.
That doesn't mean people shouldn't try to lower their risk factors for whatever runs in their family but claiming that "living healthy" (whatever it is you personally mean by that) is somehow a "cure" is just peddling a fantasy. Sorry.
I assume you're either selling something or you've bought something. Either way, you're obviously not a doctor and shouldn't be giving people medical advice if you don't actually know what you're talking about and, in the case of Alzheimer's, you clearly don't.
My grandmother didn't have Alzheimers but dimentia. I only saw her occasionally but it wasn't long before she forgot who I was and called my dad (her son) "that nice man who comes to visit".
Bright Eyes was an homage to the original as was the line Get Your Stinking hands off me! Remember?
They did so well with this series. Andy Serkis really shines.

First of all, you need to watch the post-credits scene. It is vital (although it is repeated in the second movie).

Dr. Franklin - the director of the original film was Franklin Shaffer
Dr. Jacobs - the producer of the original films was Arthur Jacobs
Maurice the orangutan - Dr. Zaius in the original films was played by Maurice Evans
Mom (Bright-Eyes) - Heston is called 'bright eyes' by Zira
Brian Cox's character is named John Landon - the name of one of the other astronauts in the original film
Tom Felton's character is named Dodge Landon - the names of both of the other astronauts in the original film
The 'leader' of the ape revolt in original films 4 & 5 is named Caesar. His first word is 'No' (Caesar is born at the end of 3)

Great reaction. A few points. 1. Cesar was just being an ape. Trying to keep him in human surroundings, with no other chimps around him was just disrespectful to his true nature. 2. Having 5 more years of a normal life with his Dad was definitely worth the risk. But when his Dad was ready to go, he had to respect that. 3. The MINUTE I saw those apes having a meeting in the enclosure, I would have gone to lunch, or to run an errand and never come back.

This is a much better Reboot than the 2001 Tim Burton film starring Mark Wahlberg.
When Burton was asked if he would direct a sequel, he said that he would rather jump out of a 10 story window than work on another APES movie after the way he was treated.

The 2001 wasn't necessarily a reboot, rather a reimagining of the original. From what I understand, it was more in line with the original novel as opposed to the original Apes movie.
If you didn't see the end credit's scene, you must go back and watch it. You get a better idea of where the story is going from there. Also, you two have the most amazing expressions when you look at each other and then do double takes during the shocking moments! Love your reactions.

So glad to see yall doing this one. I'm an old fart and grew up watching the original planet of the apes movies' and I loved them. This reboot and the 2 sequels that follow it are even better than the original series to me.
41:24 - By the end of the third movie, Amber, you'll fully understand just how the apes were able to take over the humans. You'll enjoy the lore involved in it too. :)
The newspaper that said "lost in space" is a referring to the spaceship that Charles Heston was on in the original movie. Some of the lines they say are call backs to the original... "it's a madhouse, a madhouse" , "get your hands off me you damn dirty ape". Ceaser saying "NO" is mentioned by Cornelius which is why the apes in the original hold him in such reverence. I wish you guys would continue the original saga. Caeser's origin is very different. It really parallels the racial tension of the times.

If you've seen the older movies you are completely aware the apes can fluently speak. What's great about this movie is it shocks you with Caesar saying one word. That's storytelling at it's finest!!!

Great movie! With you two having reacted to the original Planet of the Apes, I hope you noticed all the references in this movie to the original. The actor who played Malfoy, said two lines that Taylor said in the original movie, Caesar's mother's name was Bright Eyes, which was what Taylor was called by Zira the female chimp doctor, and near the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the newspaper they showed reported that Taylor's spaceship had become lost in space. Also, Caesar's name, along with Maurice, has significance from the original Apes series. SO many Easter Eggs! I love it!! And you guys ❤✌
Andy Serkis gives an amazing performance as Caesar through acting and motion capture performances! I highly recommend you two to do a reaction videos on Dawn and War next. I’m so fired up for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

A brilliant franchise! I love Caesar - when he spoke & said ‘No!’ - I tell you, everyone in the cinema just gasped. I still get goosebumps when he says “Caesar is home” 😢
Andy Serkis that played Caesar is an incredible actor and character actor. The emotions he brings out in his movie character’s movements and facial expressions is astonishing. Planet of the Apes, Lord of the Rings, King Kong, etc. A couple of great movies he’s in, in person, are Black Panther, and The Batman.

You can go back to the original Pirates of the Carribean to see one of the first "early" Easter Eggs / End credit scenes. The MCU just notched it up a HUGE bit.
There are a lot of Easter Eggs in the newer films that refer to the older series from the 60's & 70's...

I grew up watching Planet of the Apes (from the 60s/70s). One of the very few memories I have of my dad (in my childhood).
I always liked the one with Mark Wahlburg. But this new series I think definitely has a great story line and the graphics, etc, it just makes the movie much more intense. I love it! 😁

On the north side of the golden gate is the John Muir Redwoods when Caesar used to play when he was little. That is where he is going.
You missed the mid-credits scene! It shows the neighbour from earlier in the film has now caught the virus from the lab technician, but he's a commercial airline pilot so he's inadvertently spreading the virus across the world. But the virus is only dangerous to humans, but it makes apes all across globe super-intelligent.
Can't wait to see your reaction to parts 2 and 3-they're arguably even better than the first film! 🦍🔥💪🏼

Mid Credit scene is so important. Franklin sneezed on the next door neighbour, who is a polit. Airports... perfect place to take viruses international.
I love this movie, but I always have to look away from the scene where Caesar bites the neighbors finger. Not for the biting part, but because of the look on Caesars face after. He looks so sad after realizing what he did. I just start bawling seeing him like that
Hey Jay, and Amber. There are a couple of subtle hints throughout the movie that link the first one you watched(1968 version) to this one. Remember initially in the 1968 version, they only thought they were going to be a few hundred years in the future when they returned to Earth, and didn't realize until the end that they were on Earth but several thousand years later. There was a spot in this movie where they alluded to the Astronauts being "lost in space" on the news paper headline. So the virus that wipes out most of the humans started in this film right after the astronauts left, but that will show up in several thousand years, yet only a few years to them. This franchise told the story of what happened to the world after those astronauts left, and how the apes took over, became smart, and ruled the Earth. It will also tell how the humans lost the ability to speak.
The other little nugget you may like is that Andy Serkis who did the motion capture for Gollum/Smeagol in Lord of the Rings also did Ceasar in this franchise as well.
These 3 films are by far the best Planet Of The Apes films period! Great reaction guys and looking forward to the next 2 👊🇬🇧
The 113 that Franklin ingested and spread while he was sick ( he coughed on the Pilot neighbour) devastates the human population.
Of all the planet of the apes movies cuz there are tons, this one was my fav. Broke my heart. It really shows how the the apes took over. And the humans became subservient. How science went wrong. Notice the nod to the old movie cuz they call the ape BrightEyes which is what the apes called Charleston Hestons character in the original movie. The CGI today really makes the movie more personal. Because actual actors played all the apes who had actual acting parts.
That original Orangutan Maurice, will end up being your favorite by the end of this trilogy. Everyone loves Maurice lol
One of the most amazing things I've ever seen is at my local zoo they have a steel-belted radial tire that one of their orangutans twisted into a figure-eight knot. Apes in general are so fascinating but also scary.

Tbf the one truly sad thing is that the first word uttered by another sentient species on the planet, alongside us hoomies, is a rage-filled, defiant "NO". I mean its a tale old as time that humans oppress and use others for their benefit. Apes are no different so with this scenario its to be expected but Damn this trilogy leaves u with so many "if only things would've gone different"😂

I think the newspaper headline "Lost in Space" was a callback to the original 1960s movie. Charleston Heston was an astronaut. He and his crew returned from space to the planet of the apes.

The name Cornelius.
When the ape keeper said : "its a mad house".
When the ape keeper said : "Take your stinkin’ paw off me you damn dirty ape!".
When the ape keeper used the water jet firehose on Caesar.
When the news show you the spaceship is "lost in space". The Icarus space mission mentioned on a background newscast matches the name of the crashed spacecraft in the original film.
Caesar's horseback ride across the Golden Gate Bridge echoes the first film where George Taylor sees a clothed ape on horseback.
Dodge Landon's name is supposedly a hybrid of two of the crewmembers of the Icarus mission in the original film
Nova comes back in the GenSys Nova's Cafe; Cornelius has a female counterpart in Rise named Cornelia; and as Jack mentions, Caesar's mother is referred to as Bright Eyes, the same nickname given to George Taylor by ape scientist Zira.

The director of this film, Matt Reeves, also did “The Batman”. Like in the classic comics, Batman is a detective (who also kicks major ass).I just know that you would both be enthralled for different reasons. Jay likes action, and this film is jam packed with amazing stunts. Amber loves a good detective/crime solving mystery, and this film will keep you on your toes! Highly recommended!!! 🦇

The woman who got attacked was the neighbor and friend of the owner of the chimp. And the lady who actually owned the chimp was giving him anti depressant pills for almost his whole life.
The line the "handler" says to Ceasar before he responds with "NO".... is the same line Taylor says to the apes for the 1st time in the original Planet of the Apes
Easter Eggs: A lot of parellels with the 1968 movie. The lost in Space headline in the news paper was the crew from the 1968 movie. Them rounding the apes up at the start was like them rounding the humans up in the first movie. The waterhose scene is in both, Bright eyes refrence in both, get your paws off me you d@mn dirty ape! is in both. The ape talks at the end like the human talks at the end of the 1968 movie. The apes breeding is only part of the issue, humans undergo a massive pandemic that the humans and apes are spreading throughout the world. The pandemic causes a human population decrease along with the modification of humans to the eventual point of them being like the humans in the 1968 movie. Glad you both enjoyed the movie, I look forward to seeing more from this series.

As much as I love the original and seeing those when I was a kid, this brought a well deserved aspect of sincerity and compassion to the beginning of that incredible saga. I love how it also wasn't just "one thing" that caused the tension between humans and the apes, it was a long history of mistreatment, superiority complexes and, at the end of the day, misunderstanding of each species. I think James Franco did a really awesome job conveying the emotion, however I still had a hard time buying him as a scientist lol I guess he'll always be Saul from Pineapple Express in my heart lol I loved that movie and his role in it.

These three in the "franchise" are really good...and there's a fourth coming soon. I did watch the old ones often way back when, and I enjoyed these three much more. War For the Planet of the Apes, the third in this series, explains what happened to humans and how they became mute; how they were in the previous one you two watched, from 1968. Caesar actually inherited his intelligence through his mother; who was treated with 112. The 112 wasn't administered to him; Caesar.

At the zoo, Caesar was signing that he wanted ice cream with gummy worms. Will took it as an opportunity to ask out Caroline.
Y'all forgot that when Caesar gave the other apes the 1-13 he was also there the entire night too, so he got both of them.
13:59 - Yeah, that was really sad, Jay. She was a chimp handler who had a pet chimp. I cannot remember now what set the chimp off, but in the end of the attack, he literally chewed her whole face off. Doctors literally had to rebuild her face, with grafts and the like. She has a semblance of a face now, but is totally blind of course. :(
It was her friend who visited her that was the one attacked. These are wild animals and should not be "pets."

It's crazy to see just how much the CGI improved from Rise to Dawn. Guess that's what an additional $80m budget looks like.
