I'm really excited to see this channel growing and expanding more and more. There's always a very particular rush of excitement whenever I see a new HEMA video uploaded whether it's you, Matt Easton, Roland Warzecha, Ilkka Hartikainen, etc.

Thank you so much! At first I could not think about training sword and buckler. I had no idea.

It's nice to go back and watch these I.33 videos. I.33 was one of the first things I wanted to study when I first considered joining a Hema club, and it has a space in my heart, even though I ended up focusing on Lecküchner

Excellent video - as an armchair HEMA fan I've always been a bit "blah" over sword and buckler until I saw this video along with "Sword & Buckler Fencing with Sharp Swords" from Roland Warzecha - inspiring work :)

I don't know much about I.33 but I really like that particular way you're using the Priest's special longpoint.

I've recently been trying to absorb as much as I can in the way of sword and buckler and I have to say I always appreciate your take on just about any HEMA subject so this was incredibly helpful for me. Thank you!

Every time I see one of your training videos, I lament that I live in Canada and that I can't partake in your classes.

What I need are, good spars that take the blood into account like this, and good descriptors of the style, stepping into complexity, like a class from beginner to at least the middle.

    How would this have worked if you (or one of you) were using a hanger or a sabre?? Loved seeing the buckler in action, very good because up until a few weeks ago I never even knew of its existence, let alone its use. Anyway, would love to see how this scenario would play out if one was using something like a sabre. Cheers for now... ;-}

Hi Dave, very nice to see this sparring fight. I am really impressed by the good measure for thrusts you show and the very smooth changes from thrust to cuts demonstrated.
A short question regarding your bucklers: from which supplier you buy these metal bucklers? Is there a reason why are you chose to use full metal ones and not some made out of wood?

  • @gabrielolmedo9000

In my historical fencing school we have no bucklers! And I really want one, I wander how could I manage to build one (we are kinda economicals with our equipment: everything is made out of bamboo and recicled stuff).

Shadiversity (i think thats what Shad's channel is called now) has a tutorial for making a budget buckler for sparring with synthetic or other practice weapons. Its here on UA-cam I would suggest searching "Shad buckler" or something to that effect.

alternatively KultOfAthena has very very affordable bucklers for sale as well as some websites having synthetic bucklers made by cold steel

Very interesting really liked it. Good to see i.33 in action like that. It seems simple but at the same time not so much. Also if you could answer a question. what training swords do you use in that video I am looking to get one but I am unsure as to what would be best suited. Once again cool vid hoe to see more.

I am really noob at this I33 suf, but I have a question. Where are the seven guards in a fight like this? I only see a bit of langort and doing halfshilt. great video by the way

Why do you hate people watching you train? You look like a dangerous predator out there, the way you come at the opponent and strike quick at the openings.

eye opening so all the hype that japanese samurai would outfight his european counter part is bs can you expound on this

    • @LondonLongsword

that has more to do with the individual rather than martial systems or nationality.

I had some nice bouts with I:33 versus an experienced katrori shinto ryu practitioner. We found out that in this pairing sword and buckler have a severe advantage over the katana. Longswords are more difficult due to the longer reach.

My money would still be on the Samurai. I'm not usually big on fanatics, but what they had going on was the good kind of fanaticism.
