Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend most people go into the cave through the hole in the wall. You gotta be more than sure that you can climb into it without sliding or anything. But glad your boyfriend managed to do it and see the petroglyphs!

Hi Michelle! Tickets to el Yunque are really limited recently apparently. You could always go to Angelito's Trail for a nice scenic hike. Angelito's is pretty short and easy, nothing like hiking inside of el Yunque, but it's a very beautiful trail that leads to a great big pond where you can take a dip and chill out for a while. If you want a long and moderate hike outside of el Yunque, you'll need to go to other places like Toro Negro in Ciales, Cerro Mime in Orocovis or Cerro Guilarte in Adjuntas. Those places are far away from el Yunque though. In my video of Adjuntas you can find out how to get to Cerro Guilarte. Hope that helps!

Hi. I enjoyed this video. FYI at the 6:23 -6:30 mark of your video on that cliff in the shadows there is a huge face carved on the rock. Not many people spot it. You would need to walk along the cliff and face it in order to see it.❤
I visited Cueva del Indio a few years back, pre-Maria, and really enjoyed it. Back then I entered using the sketchy ladder, along with my adventurous son. My wife, mother-in-law, and unadventerous son stayed up top. It was really hot that day, and it feel great to get out of the sun, and we even took a dip in the pink jacuzzi. I felt sorry for the chickens that stayed up top. The current way to enter the caves seems safer, less intimidating, and might actually be an option for my wife and older son. I've seen videos of people jumping into the water from pretty big heights. I hope to do that one day, but I'd have to enter the water first, and make sure what's under the water, and where. That will be an adrenaline rush, for sure.
You can still find photos of the ladder that was there before. I've actually seen someone going down into the cave by going down the walls where the ladder used to be, but I wouldn't recommend this because it can damage the petroglyphs. I don't mind the entrance through the crack on the wall, but it can be intimidating for some. Hope you'll be able to visit La Cueva del Indio soon! Be careful with rough waters if you plan to get in the water nearby.
Went there in June 2023. It is $10 per person now. Also, not sure how you got to the beach. The path we took ended at the wall of someone's backyard. Would love to have seen how you climbed to get into the crevice and how you climbed from the crevice into the cave. We did not do it because I heard that it is steep and it is not easy to do. Tricks for this would be helpful!
Hey Sarah! Yeah, there’s a big conflict with regard to the people charging $10 for parking near one of the entrances because the cave is public property and there needs to be public access to it. Getting inside of the cave is tricky as you probably saw in the video. Going into the crevice in the wall is very intimidating and climbing down through the big hole isn’t really an option for most people, specially since it could damage some of the petroglyphs. Either way, hope you enjoyed the amazing views from there! 🇵🇷😄🙌🏼

You have to be careful with every step you take because the rock can cut you if you trip and fall and there are occasional holes that are really dangerous.

Caja de muerto is very interesting! You’ll need to find someone to take you there by boat. Maunabo has a black sand beach on the southeast. You could visit Piedra Blanca in Yabucoa and eat at El Nuevo Horizonte.

I recently saw some news about this too. Last time I went you could access the cave through the beach without having to pay. The owners of the land next to la cueva del indio charge you for parking in their lot, but you could park next to the street. Not sure what they’re doing at the moment, hopefully not charging for getting to La Cueva del Indio. 🇵🇷
What I perceive us that not many. That topic is a bit complicated. On one side we gained a lot of our culture from the Spanish conquistadors, but on the other they did seek to conquer what wasn’t theirs and enslaved natives taíno and Africans. It’s complicated. 😅

Wow! Three months is a great amount of time to have a blast in Puerto Rico! If I'm completely honest, I wouldn't visit Cueva del Indio with kids, specially if they're as young as 8 since Cueva del Indio lacks protective infrastructure to prevent people from falling off of the edges or accidentally down an unmarked holes. If you want a beautiful and safe hike you should visit el Yunque, specifically Mt. Britton trail which continue up to el Yunque peak. You can also check out the hike up to Cerro Guilarte in Adjuntas which is of moderate difficulty but worth checking out. I explain how to get there in my Ultimate Adjuntas Travel Guide video. You can also check out the recently re-opened Parque de las Cavernas del Río Camuy (Camuy River Cave Park)! Pretty much every puertorrican kid goes on an excursion to these caverns with their elementary school. Highly recommended! I'll be visiting this park on Sunday and making a video of my visit so if you're interested make sure to subscribe and keep an eye out for that video! Hope that helps!!
I went there when I was 5. I'm mid fifties now,I never forgot that day.it was majestic with the surf,but it was scary.Especially the part where my step-dad picked me up to cross over a chasm that was like 2 stories high and you could see hear strong waves crashing down at the bottom.

It used to be free to go to!! I remember paying 25-cent for parking in the gas station!!!
You can still find a parking and an entrance for free, but it’s more of a hassle, unfortunately.

I went this week, but the entry to the cave looked very dangerous, I’d recommend trining your body before visiting. The ladder seemed safer to me.

It’s not dark in the cave because it has big openings to the outside. The entrance that I showed is darker but you can still see.

These people are violating the public access law by building fencing 20 meters from the beach. They can not charge you the access for public property.

You can also check out the recently re-opened Parque de las Cavernas del Río Camuy (Camuy River Cave Park)! Pretty much every puertorrican kid goes on an excursion to these caverns with their elementary school. Highly recommended! I'm mid fifties now,I never forgot that day.it was majestic with the surf,but it was scary.Especially the part where my step-dad picked me up to cross over a chasm that was like 2 stories high and you could see hear strong waves crashing down at the bottom.
