This video is amazing. One side of my family is Latvian and Lithuanian, both languages are so beautiful. I could listen to them forever and never cease to enjoy hearing them! The mention of the folktales is a brilliant addition. There are also soo many ways of saying "you're welcome" in Latvian as well. I never know which one to choose. I tend to go for formal language because it seems less likely to offend. Even though context and variety are essential. My uncle spoke Latvian all the time and I always wanted to ask him to teach me.
Your channel is really helpful! Liels paddies :). I was curious, so I've searched for the origin of "thank you" in my language. I'm from Czech Republic. And we say "děkuji" which comes from old German verb "denken"- and that means "to think". And the original meaning should be that when someone helps you, you're grateful for it. So after that you THINK of him/her in a positive/nice way.
Liels paldies Anete! 🙂 In the Slovak language, you say thank you - Ďakujem and Thank you very much - Ďakujem veľmi pekne :) Paldies for another informative and rewarding video! :)
In Yiddish we say, "א דאנק" which means "a thank" or "a gratitude!" You can modify it to say "a great thank" or "a beautiful thank" when wanting to say more
Since you asked... Paddies in Japanese is "Arigatou🥰" which is originally a very formal form of the adjective "arigatai", used to describe something that you are thankful for or that is "hard to come by" or "rare". So as you see it is a very roundabout way to thank someone, and not a direct way to thank them. Which is indeed a very Japanese way of expressing your feelings....😏
What a wonderful way to wake up on a Saturday morning! Love your videos. Note to self: Don't take large sips of coffee as you will almost spit them out laughing so hard! Paldies!
First of All, Congratulations on 10K subscribers, you deserve more than that:')) Secondly, I have just started learning The Latvian Language and starting with the Alphabets from your Channel, and it was very good ( Grateful for your help ). I hope, you will do like a video about steps because as beginner starting to learn new language, it is important to have a plan because somehow after learning the alphabets and greeting I got stuck in between what should I do after that..
In Lithuanian we say also say "dėkui", which has slavic roots. I looked for the explanation of the origin of "Ačiū" and one of them that it menas "atjaučiu" - I feel it.
QUESTION! Hi Germane! I love your channel! Would you please remind me what is the 'correct' translation of 'jet lag'? I am Latvian but it sounded so absurd, I could not remember it! Thank you!
The jury is still out on that one but some proposals have been: * lidojuma laiknobīde (time-shift due to flying) * Laikjoslu sindroms (syndrome of time-zones) * pārlidojuma laiknobīdes nogurums (fatigue caused by time-shift due to flying) :)
@@irregularLatvian I am honoured to get such a quick and comprehensive reply from a >10K subscribed UA-camr! "Pārlidojuma laiknobīdes nogurums"; yes, that was the one - haha!! I think it is a mistrial and the jury should be disbanded. Milzonīgs paldies! (Lai dzīvo kaķīši 😉)

Irish : Dia dhuit , is a greeting meaning God be with you!
Ahaaa! The pattern continues :)
In Farsi we say khudo khofiz "God with you"

Paldies, great videos I recently started to learn latvian. Do you give private lessons?
"Paldies" Danke/Dank je/Thank you/감사합니다(Koreanische Schrift)
PALDIES! :D Par video. Bet ir tomēr diezgan labas gribas cilvēku. Ir... Paldies Dievam.
Do you do classes for languages exams?
In South Slavic languages "Thanks" is either praise (to you or upon you) or gift of good. In French it is "Merci!".
And what about: Paldies jūms?
In Hungary we say:
Köszönöm - Thank you
Köszönöm szépen - Tank you very much
Köszi - Thanks
👍😄
Of course, also
Paldies Tev - Thank you
And paldies Jums - Thank your majesty (just formal) :)
@@irregularLatvian thank you! I mean Paldies. 🤣

"Dėkui" or "dekoju" is actually Germanic. South Slavic languages don't have it at all.
Apsveicu ar 10 tūkstošiem!
I hope I can use Latvian in person one day.
