    The alt.metal Blackouts are just the Mick Thomson signature set with a rebrand due to him switching to Fishman. The logo is the same, and they reused the audio clips and EQ graphs on the SD website.
    Which is great, I wanted a pair of EMTYs for my Ibanez baritone but you could only really get them on Reverb at a big upcharge, or in remaining stock of Mick's Jackson signatures, which are near $6000 Canadian.

    I used to be firmly in the disgust camp when it came to headless guitars, but I have come around. I particularly like 8 string headless, because ergonomically it’s just superior in every way to bohemoth neck dive monsters with two handed swords for a headpiece. But I guess lusting after headless 8’s has changed my outlook on 6 and 7 as well. They all look great to me now. It just takes some getting used to, I guess!

    I've got the "AHB-3s" Mick Thomson Blackouts and they are totally fine.
    Even for cleans and bluesy stuff.
    People overestimate the influence on the sound because pickups are "high output" ...
    Marketing working as intended, I guess...

    Pale moon ebony?? Dang.. that's a $300 upcharge just for a fingerboard alone at Kiesel, let alone a whole top. Granted the Ibanez will probably only have a veneer not a full cap. But still. This thing is nice. Jumbo gold frets. No streaks in the ebony. Luminlay side dots. I wants it. Oh, nice to hear someone say "nyatoh" correctly for once. +10 points!

    I’m not a headless guitar fan but the Ibanez looks great but I’m an Ibanez fan and the finish reminds me of old barn wood ( a good thing to me ) , now how about an Iceman premium LP custom but Iceman Premium from the Indonesian plant. I think there’s a market for a really nice mid tier priced Iceman, and the new ones they released recently are almost there if they only had a Rosewood or Ebony finger board, I just don’t like the baby poo tan look of whatever wood they are using on those, I guess I want something like a PS10 but de blinged take all the Paul Stanley stuff off the PS10 especially the chrome plate behind the bridge the inlays can stay they’re awesome. Something in between an IC400 and a Paul Stanley , something to compete with the new inspired by custom shop Epiphones LP, bound body neck and headstock, with parallelogram inlays (mop or abalone) 4 knob vvtt three way switch. I can’t be the only one who would be interested in something like that. I’ve gotten the LP itch as I’m getting older but I’ve always loved the iceman’s extreme but still classy shape, I had an IC300 and I loved it but it was a bolt on so I kinda felt like it wasn’t a “real iceman) I know they’ve always made bolt on versions of their set neck designs I have a destroyer II that’s just on the verge of being rebuilt. Anyway way off topic but I think Ibanez should really do something cool with the Iceman and make it a real competitor to the Les Paul .

    the quest is not ergonic. It doesn't weigh much if at all less than other Ibanez offerings with bass wood, and it is hard to sit in a classical position. Ormsby has an ebony that is ergonomic, but with a fan fret. Strandberg essential is less expensive no fan, and very ergonomic if you want to give one a try

    • @iursnitram

      Session and touring pros need such things as Fractal’s FM9, for example. The cost is almost meaningless for a successful touring player. I can’t understand why home users don’t get this. I see complaints about the cost of instruments, amps, televisions, computer monitors, and on and on…
      All of these and much more see professional use easily justifying most any price. Instead of bemoaning the high cost, we should be grateful for the development being done for these $$ users as it soon is used to create more introductory-priced variants.
      High tech R&D is spectacularly expensive. Companies have to find a model for recovery or risk going out of business.

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile Місяць тому

      @@MrPinkStrat The formula is nowhere near that simple for manufacturers. A company does not have infinite time to make the math work. The 100,000 semi-pros aren’t going to buy at all without a relentless program of marketing. Every one of those 100,000 units needs to be sold, as in SOLD! Much of that program, particularly for a smaller builder, consists of high-end users putting their face and name on the line. It’s just the way it works.
      I’m in the record biz and the parallels are uncanny, and sickening. Hits are MADE. They’re bought, influenced, created by the expediency of cash. A prominent manufacturer like Boss can leverage the enormous up front cost by releasing an array of models right off the bat, going many millions in the hole in the process, and advertising the hell out of them. A smaller maker, and that describes virtually all of them, would be broken by the development hole. It’s hugely risky.

That being said, Emg 57/66 along with 81/85 got pretty much active pups covered. I don’t know what Seymour Duncan company is thinking really. How about bring back the original live wires or make the retribution set got 6 string. Whatever I guess.
