In the 80s Gordon Smith used to make the best double-cut LP style guitar. A load of punk bands down here used them as they were half the price of the Gibsons.
I used to avoid this guys videos like the plague. But his honesty won me over.
Interesting. I avoid clichés like the plague.
This series of his videos is one of the best series of gear stuff on the UA-cams.
@@legman1476 😂
I think the pandemic proved once and for all that humanity does not, in fact, avoid the plague
Thanks,mate! I love your videos
Great video as always mate, saves hours wading through all the other videos!
I have a partial load split when I don't get to the toilet in time.

I have not seen one bad review of the Tonex One pedal. Even the channels that can be contrarian on purpose from time to time adore it. I had purchased the Tonex Max software before the pedal came out so I wasn't going to fork over another wad of cash for the first pedal. The Tonex One was an instant buy for me.
Love your channel. Cheers, homie.
I just got my Tonex Pedal yesterday, and I preordered the Tonex One as well. Great line of products, and I can't wait to see your own review of the One. Keep up the great work
Why would you not subscribe to this channel? It’s got the best gear overviews, honest reviews, great humor, great host. What do you waaaaaant???
Awesome job as always 🎸🔥🤘🏼
Gordon Smith Guitars look awesome don’t they 😎 great job
Gordon Smith thick body GS1. Fabulous guitars
I got one of the Gordon Smith offset guitars with P90s last year and it is by far the best guitar I’ve ever played. I adore it. ❤
Nice electric six reference
"Danger! Danger! High Voltage!" For that, you win the internet today.
The high voice towards the end... 😂
Cheers Andy!
For the first time of watching The Week in Gear, there is nothing that I want/need/desire 🤣 RESULT! 🤔
Thanks for the honest reviews Andy ! I’d need to hot glue an Air Tag to the ToneX! It’s so small I’d loose it in my gear bag 😊
The Gordon Smith, especially the headstock looks beautiful. Neck adjustment at the right place.
The ToneX One is probably the best thing to happen to guitar players since the invention of the Telecaster. I'm just not sure if I want to sell my ToneX Pedal and get one, keep the big one and get small one or get 2 small ones.
Thank you for another great video. When you review the Tonex One please tell us who it is for. 🙄 I’m an old singer songwriter. I have a Katana 100 MKii and Go. My non-modeling amps are a ZT Lunchbox Reverb and Acoustic. I don’t gig. I rarely shred. But I like the tone from VOX AC and Fender amps. I dabble in jazz and blues. I wonder why I would want a Tonex One, other than because it is tiny, sparkly, and all-the-rage. I look forward to your review. Let me know if the Tonex One is going to change my life. My goodness there is SO MUCH GEAR OUT THERE! Bye. Bye. 😊🙏
Gordon Smith guitars were good guitars back in the day, but the modern ones are stunning - played one of their Teles the other day which was a featherweight at a smidge over 5lbs and sounded absolutely epic.
Greetings M'lord. I immediately ordered the Monumental as I ONLY record in Stereo or WDW. Your Demo set my hair on fire..keep the hits coming.
Sorry about the hair. This is great to hear. I’m so glad that someone’s using it to its full potential. I wish I could run wet dry wet all the time.
It looks cool, but WhyTF didn't they just use TRS jacks on the top? Why are the jacks on the side? Dammit, Walrus!
@@illegal_space_alien I know right? Could've shown some better creativity for the end user and done the top load.
From my experience, Gordon Smith are one of best guitar makers in UK 😮. Period.
I have a custom shell pink Single cut with Schaller floating tremello and it rocks. Every time I pick it I am amazed it's mines.
Basically, want a different take on the classic get one. If you are intrigued by some of the new designs they have try one.
I still have my HT5 v1. I got it from Blackstar at the London Guitar Show just after they released it. I was on the stand next door and got it with pre worn in speakers as it was their demo model. Lovely tones but it needs revalving at present. Any suggestions for a tube set, Andy?
If I see one more review of that Tonex I will poke my eyes out!
Also, I don't see the prices on the Blackstar range staying that high.
My favourite fruit is the Braeburn apple. Those Geist guitars look very nice and the Tonex One - wow, I doubt protools will recognize it though. Great content as usual, thanks for all the info.
I also love a good basic Apple, but I am partial to a pink lady. I know, I’m fancy
As cool as the Tonex One is, I still think I am going to spend the extra money on the full sized Tonex pedal. Still, I can see the insane possibilities if you had both on you pedal board. The Tonex to control you amp captures and the Tonex One for you stomp boxes. Those two pedals could be your whole rig (I would add a delay pedal). We truly live in amazing times.
Gordon Smith are making awesome guitars and becoming more well known thanks to people like Michelle Taylor who is one of their endorsed artists who has played them for years.👍🏻
PRS guitars use partial-load coil splitting to change tonality more than volume.
I have ordered that Tremmelo mono V.2 I got to wait 2 days from now I hope it will sound as good as hear on the internet ..
Can you do a review on the ToneX .. I wanna see the workflow ? Please
“Norman’s Mum from Fireman Sam” made me LOL! 😂 Dilys Price, paramour of “the debonair” bus driver, whose name escapes me.
12:28 gave me a good giggle, peak editing game :)
Yes! Victor is the man 😂
Another week and another great episode! I kinda want one (get it? 🤪)...but can't atm 🤣 but woah! Considering a pedal is already saying a lot!
I got it. It was good. It’s more than a pedal though, isn’t it? It’s pretty much everything you need.
@@TheGuitarGeek more is more! Agreed
Sorry my comment won't go through even though many attempts
@@vasotoe All of the Drewhast, and Galtone Studios high gain tones are my favourite on tonenet getthem all! You won't regret.
"Not much difference between head and combo" = cheap speaker? I had a 5R-MarkII and I felt that way. Cheers, Andy. Love this series.
Gin and ToneX. Yum!
Hey, digging this channel, love the fun crazy professor persona
However slightly confused, pretty sure that's a British accent. I can say that with confidence because I was born in London and some 40 years later still can't work out how to get out. So my question is, are you a UK or US channel since pushing Sweetwater, who I understand are the Walmart of music stores, well known but not available in the UK?
I understood the High Voltage reference
The Blackstar HT Venue amps are still, as they always have been, hybrid amps; they are not tube/valve amps. I also bought one as my first "all tube" head, the original HT-20, and I am angry that Blackstar is *still* getting away with lying about their architecture. Almost an entire generation of guitarists do not know what "tube amp" means thanks to Blackstar.
It's funny, Laney used to do the 'TubeFusion' range back in the '90's and were patently honest about the amps being hybrid, which could be the reason barely anybody bought one.
I did, and I still regret selling it.
You might not want to do this for fear of being kicked out of the club and loosing your audience, but the installment I want to see: what happens when you connect a modeller like the tone-x directly to a PA speaker or monitor, foregoing a traditional head unit and cabinet altogether? I know: Heresy!
If you're whining over the Tone X One, then you're going to be the guy who gets turned down from bands because you're still hauling around a giant tube amp.
This is a game changer. This (and similar products) will replace every touring guitarists' rig. You, sir, earned another Patron.
Hey Sam. I agree about Tone X. Tube Amps are still fun but live, I think this opens up so many possibilities.
Welcome to my Patreon. Thanks so much
@TheGuitarGeek , I, for sure, am not knocking tube amps. Just, this takes your setup for being huge (amp, cab, a large pedal board) to being able to fit in your hand. Amazing.
Your band will thank you, come setup and teardown time. 😂
I had a Gordon Smith T-style guitar years ago. It was beautiful and great quality, but alas it was a heavy beast, and I find teles kind of uncomfortable to play at the best of times, so I had to let it go😢
Sweetwater sell to uk?
Love the show! Sweetwater has a “Tax” catch on their giveaways.
What’s the tax catch?
@@TheGuitarGeekwhat the O.P. is trying to say is Sweetwater is legally obliged to notify US authorities of the unearned income value, and the winner may be obliged to pay tax on the unearned income depending on their personal circumstances. The same US law would apply to every other US giveaway. Sweetwater have no discretion to ignore US tax laws. It's a US tax catch, not a Sweetwater catch.
Smallprint from the Sweetwater t&c's
"The Prize Winner will be solely responsible for all federal, state, and/or local taxes, or for other fees or costs associated with the Prize or the entrant’s receipt of the Prize. The Prize Winner may be required to provide Sponsor with a valid social security number or submit a W-9 before the prize is awarded for tax reporting purposes."
@@PaulCooksStuff Great response. Thanks for clarifying US versus Sweetwater. I should have been more accurate.
Reason number 4 for visiting Sweetwater: i live 30 minutes away from Sweetwater, and i have a $3000 pre-approved line of credit. So... i basically give them $300 dollars a month until they stop letting me leave with stuff i have yet to pay for. 😆
I didn't realize you could capture pedals with that ToneX...❤
imagine a pedalboard of just these lol
It’s a Poképedal? Well, gotta catch them all!
Not picking on you bud or anyone else with the paid promo's of the new little Tonex unit, the thing seems fun and usable and priced right for most, I think most guitarists are gravitating to the usual 3/4 main-stay live or recording tones, nice to have the option for several more yes but a bit of overkill in my experience, as much as I like new products arriving almost daily I can't see or hear anything to move me off my one and only because I'm already fully at home with my personalised 3/4 tones for live and recording, I think mine is better because it can be tweaked if needed instantly on the spot without the need for any fluffing about, I've got around 100 options at both my fingertips or foot in all circumstances which these new products to me only sound like no differently tbh.
There’s another guitar Gordon Smith released a few weeks ago that I think is a lot nice than that one. The Grande. Very nice.
Andy, I really enjoy your channel. Are you a brit living in Austria? I have your shirt. Cheers.
Thanks very much. Yeah, I’ve been here for quite a few years now. Hope that shirt is treating you well.
@@TheGuitarGeek Tennessee here..
Probably a silly question, but I use a Katana Amp. Can the Tone X pedal be used with it?
If it's the katana mk2 it has a power amp input so yes.
yes. mk2 has the poweramp in but on my mk1, I use the Aux In. Sounds good and close enough to what I hear live on a PA system.
@@rhoydotp So the power amp in Jack is on the back of the MK2. Is that where the pedal goes? Or just straight in like a normal pedal.
@@JimmyKay1976 into the power amp jack at the back.
Yep tone x one is a no brainer. Wish they had units ready to ship on release. Feels like a miss...
The Friedman is not expensive compared to the Blackstar HT1 head.
*Ubetcha* wood . Imported from Minnesota, doncha know..
Oh, was that “high voltage” reference to Venjent? Or am I overthinking this?))
Sounded like Electric Six to me
@@user-sw7js4jw7v you’re right, absolutely! I haven’t seen this track before) it’s awesome!
@@S31416 oh you truly must listen to their stuff! great band! That album the track is from is excellent

Tummy Rumbles. Isn’t that a the chef from the wiggles band?
Oranges!
Read my name in stereo. 😂
Those headstocks for the Gordon Smith look like Friedman headstocks. Which is weird because it's pretty specific design. I f'cking hate 24 fret guitars...
I gotta say, the Friedman Preamp sounded "pretty damn good" doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement.
seems like a great practice tool through an frfr
I thought Tonex made teacakes 🤔
I thought of a funny comeback for this but it’s scone
@@TheGuitarGeek Wayhey!! That takes the biscuit! Bravo sir 🤓👏 Piece o' Cake 👌
I thought about doing a Tonex vid, but didn't want to jump on that Wagon Wheel, and join the Club. Soz - I'll just put myself in Time Out now... 🙈
JAMMIE DODGERS!!!!!!
Sugar water?
While it doesn't bother me to see ALL the music channels I follow cover the same thing, it does get a little suspicious when EVERYONE has the same item, as with the Fender Tone Master, it is obvious you guys get the items for free, with review embargos and what not, so it becomes hard for me to trust reviewers when in this situation. Can't take it out on the viewers, I think. That said, this little unit does seem to be a great little pedal, though.
I believe I'm the only person in the world that is not interested in Tone X stuff. Maybe it's just stubbornness.
I think you are ok. I'm on the other spectrum about it. I want to like it more than it probably deserves. Not saying it is bad, but honestly it looks like it doesn't do what I want it to do.
Every UA-cam influencer has raved about this thing.
I almost believe them this time.
Almost.
What you didn’t like about Tonex?
@@mylogify I have nothing against the Tone X.
Tonex who?? Never heard of her 😉
I don’t get these insanely flat fretboards. I mean 16?!? It’s totally uncomfortable unless you’re just tapping I guess. 🙄
Mcrocklin on youtube, their Kiesel is 20'', and I think it covers a lot of styles there.
Its 16 at the high end where you are not playing chords... its 12 at the cowboy end
@@Zarphag yeah I know, but at the low end for the cowboy cords, it should be more like 9-9.5 at most. But I guess this is just a shred machine.
@@TK-fk4po Pia at 17 inch, I have no difficulty playing chords

666th person to thumbs up the video! 🤘
I watched it twice and what does the tiny pedal do? All you said is internet is upset, it’s amazing cause people say it’s amazing and people hate it, 40 presets.
It's a mini Tonex pedal
@@MarkRigler Thanks chief.
OBESH ?
I’ve lost weight actually
@@TheGuitarGeek WAIT ?
I'm getting to the point where all this advertising overload for products makes me NOT want to buy those products.
180 dollars for a pedal that basically just gives you "access" to a tone interface. What happens if ToneX goes out of business? What happens if the tone you like uses a tone that they get sued for? What happens if they stop licensing the product in the future? How much do the components *actually* cost? How much of what I'm paying is just going toward paying for the UA-cam videos getting released?
I hate to be an absolute boomer about it, but it seems like we're one step away from a subscription based pedal. I don't want to pay for "access" or a "license", I want to pay for the pedal. Nearly 200 dollars for maybe 100 worth in components is a bit much, add to it you're taking the risk of losing the access one day... and yeah, no thanks. I think it's incredibly overpriced, and you have to take a significant risk.
The ToneX software is good, I wouldn't buy this pedal, however.
Many Vst's go out of date, and you no longer can use them. Or Some go on Subscription mode like Waves, and Reason DAW. Your comment actually makes a bit sense to me. I bought Tonex Standard Software version at the time it was released, but I found out I never liked IK's own tones, and I love other people's tones, so Tonex Standard for me was totally useless buy. I kind of agree with what you're saying, it's longevity for sure may not be as long as any pedals, and real amps.
I mean, it's IK. they're huge and in no pressing danger of going bust any time in the future. Worst case if they do, you'd still have access to all the sounds you have on your PC or can download from elsewhere, or indeed what you can profile yourself. Even if your PC explodes, you still have the selection of profiles stored in the pedal. ToneX is no different from any other digital solution in that regard.
@@FuzzWoof Again, you're paying to have licensed access to tones, they can revoke that at any time. Sure you can store 20 something tones, but would you pay 180 for ONLY those tones? No. That's not cool no matter which way you spin it. You paid 180 dollars and a portion of that price was for that license they can take away. One step away from "buy the pedal and subscribe to this tone cloud to get unlimited tones!"
Absolutely not supporting that business model and no one else should either.
