8:51 centre mural reminds me of Rich, anyone else notice that?
That really made us both laugh. Thank you.
Harecastle..!!! I was an early morning tunnel enterer, and the only one for some time. Very spooky. No one in front, no one behind, but I kept on seeing a single headlamp move closer, then far away all the way thro, scared the living.........out of me. I stopped for a cup of tea at the other end, and nobody came out, and only two boats ready to go in the opposite direction. I swear to the almighty, that headlamp was a ghost boat!! I thought it might be the door I'd just come thro, but no, the light was round and followed me and fell back, then followed me again. Hell of an experience. Loved it. Lovely vlog as per.
It was a tour boat that stopped. Sat a bit and reversed back out. That is my theory anyways because...I wasnt there! Wish I had been. I must spend a holiday on the cut. The bucket list keeps growing.
That's very odd Steve as about ten minutes into the tunnel there was l alight behind us which seems to be catching us up, then dropped back again. We weren't aware that anyone was behind us, and can't remember anyone passing us when we stopped after the tunnel. we hadn't given it any more thought until we read your story. Eeeek!!
Anything is possible. Had a number of other worldly experiences myself as have my family.
I’ve heard another boater sharing a very similar story, if not identical.
If my memory serves me, I think it was David Johns from Cruising the Cut.
David experienced something almost exactly the same as you described here.
David talks about it in one of his videos.
It might be the same or another long tunnel, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to find.
Very spooky.
Especially now that I’ve heard this twice.
Either ghost boaters, or a reflection of light on the water... I hope😳
Only the ghostly apperision of a pint glass on the wall. The ghost of beer drunk! Haha.
Love the music
Hi.after watching the episode of the soap nuts,I purchased a small bag of them and so far so good, can't believe looking at them they do what they do ,we're not boaters but enjoy your blog,
Hilary
Ha Ha! Glad you like them. We still use them all the time on the boat. You would never thing they would be any good to look at them. Good luck
Really interesting Kevin, watching this video, of you and your equipment. Stay safe my friend 👍
Thanks 👍
That looks so scary, you are very good at it !
Really enjoyed the video, a beautiful day on the canal. The tunnel was something else. Ye are a lovely couple and there is something very honest about your videos. Thanks.
Thank you Brendan
Well done guys,a mile and a half of drip drip drip👍😁👏👏👏
At some times it was pouring more than dripping!
hi my name is leah . been watching for last couple of weeks . you are living my partners and my dream lifestyle , you are a lovely couple. a pleasure to watch. may you continue to have many more happy times
great selection on the Condor number I must say !
So, so good to see you both again. I have missed you. Thanks for the update. Merry Ann from Minnesota
Thank you Merry Ann
Great video again ,thanks for sharing your journey with us , take care & ATB Paul
Another lovely video, as some one over 6 ft I had fun going through the tunnel a few years ago, love the music must play it again but bit longer great to have met you at Crick
Wow, you seemed to be zipping through that tunnel. It’s clear nothing scares you two! The photography looked so crisp in at the beginning of this video and I wondered if you had a new camera or if it was the beautiful weather. I loved the plants in that lock gate it was amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Hi Sylvia. It does look like we were flying through, but really we weren't. We don't have a new camera, so I guess it was just the weather, or Rich is getting better with the filming. Thanks for watching x
Always enjoyable journeying with you both! Thanks!
Thank you
My Best Friends Mum did a family history and found out she is related to Thomas Telford. Love the videos you do
Superb Vlogs
Thank you 🙂
Hello, to you two, stressful situation in this tunnel, you are accustomed to worse, it is always an incrptitude when one enters this kind of place
Been through that tunnel once but can’t remember it being as long as that 😊 but it’s all good fun 😊👍
Great video guys :)
Thank you
To me it seemed like your speed through Harecastle was slightly higher than the earlier boats I have followed through.
It was a long time ago so we can't remember but Constanze wasn't capable of going very fast
That tunnel looked scarey.
Hi good to see you both, great people, great vlogs, what else could anybody want to see, two happy people enjoying life. New water look forward to new adventures, with you having fun Ed 40 s of vegas xx
That is a lovely comment Ed, Thank you so much x
Lovely video of your travels, I've been watching 5 celebs go barging on Friday evening, they were on that scary tunnel last week. 🙂👻 Looking forward to your next one xxx Di 💕
Great video guys, loved the tunnel........
Great video , your not far from us were in Nantwich ,
Thank you Philip. We are not visiting Nantwich just yet, but will in the future.
Oh I did enjoy that and you made going through the tunnel look so easy compared to 5 celebritys go barging I watched !!
So glad we did better than them. A bit of artistic licence maybe??
Great video! Whenever we did that tunnel, my husband needed to make a cuppa, mmm. He just didn't like it , well done you two.
Good job he had you to drive him through Sandy x
Great vlog thank you
Funny watching this vlog parked close to the tunnel south entrance
Crank it!! That’s right Fran you tell him 😂
It doesn't always do as he is told, but on this occasion he did. You have a lot to answer for!!!
Robbie Cumming If Fran and Rich are cranking it does that mean you’re now pootling? 😂
@@welldeckdiaries5610 he's too young to pootle x
Floating Our Boat His time will come 😎
looking right Indiana Jones-like with that hat, Rich! why was the water so rusty brown, do you know?
I love him even more in his new hat!The water is so red because of the iron running out of the hills around Harecastle tunnel. It was really strange to see such a drastic change as we came out of the tunnel.
good to see you enjoyed the experience of harecastle tunnel
anther one ticked off the list
i did tell you it was awesome
{:-) PAV stokie
That’s one I’m in no hurry to do😱 🥂heres to uncharted waters🥂
Great vid , hope to be doing the 4 counties my self next Easter
Great video guys
we did this tunnel in 1992, before I came back to australia, and wonder what the water is like now when we did it is was really Orange.
Un chartered waters our kid.....lol
By you two of course he.
there seems like several narrowboaters doing vlogs of their travels and life on the canals. are you friends with some of the other vlogers? "don't call me short", hehehehe, that was funny.
No waterproofs and no boyancy aids, brave people!
this canal and tunnel appeared on TV last Friday night in a programme called celebrity 5 go barging and they went all along where you went the crew were on 2 boats with one called Mollie, and Esme and the crew were Anita Harris, Shaun Williamson from EastEnders, Michael Buerk, Amanda Barrie, John Prescott, and Prescott got his own boat later on but then abandoned it
We did hear they had been there, but we haven't seen the programme.
great video guys wont get me in that tunnel lol
Thank you, the tunnel wasn't so bad, but then neither of us are claustrophobic or worried about them. It was just fun for us.
Not keen on that tunnel. I've not done a tunnel yet in my little cruiser. It looks very claustraphobic. Just done the Trent that was scarey enough. Vlogged a poem about it. Well done you two.
I'm surprised an investment in electric lighting in canal tunnels has not happened by now. Or would that spoil the experience?
Interesting idea.We have not thought about that. I guess its an expense issue.
Hmm... a couple scratches on the boat, eh? I for one would have wanted brighter headlamps. Well I did not see any fear as to the piloting, and am certain neither of you were concerned about ghosts or trolls... so nice and easy as it went. Nice show.... 😎
Hi Gilbert, I think the lamps were brighter than they looked on the video, we could really see quite well, untill I shone the light in Rich's eyes that is!
Fran x
Maybe spelunking helmets would be a good thing in that tunnel?
Sorry if you have had answered this already. But where you getting the music for your video? I love the intro one. But I'm on your 15th video at the moment. Enjoying them all at the moment 😉
Oh well I need to open my eye's I think 😁 should have looked at your links lol, lol, lol
Videos look like much of the time you’ve got the cut to yourselves. Is that the feeling or is it starting to get to crowded? If too crowded, is there a particular section that is still nice to cruise & have a bit of solitude?
We went through the tunnel about 3 weeks ago, but went from north to south.
I think it must be scarier going from North to South, as when the doors are closed you have no light to be heading towards. At least we could see light at the end of the tunnel, literally
I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the light beyond! Something exciting that I may never experience. Thank you.
Question: Did you dismantle the chimney, and is that a messy job?
Hi Bernice. It was an exciting journey. We do often take the chimney off for the tunnels if they are a bit low. It is not too messy as just pulls off the top of the flu.
Well done. Looked so low on headroom.
It was really low in places Steve, but we've done worse!!
have you 2 ever been to Nantwich if not do you plan to visit? as its a small medieval town, where I live out in the countryside my house sits between 2 canals which are the Llangollen and Trent and Mersey canals and the 2 are linked by another canal that goes towards Beeston but this linking canal could be another branch of the Llangollen I dont know, but if I walk down to the Trent and Mersey canal and go left down to the linking canal and turn left again towards Nantwich and the Llangollen canal and once I reach that canal turn left again I can walk to my house, you might say I can walk in a circle to and from my house, im spoilt for choices
Hi Anthony, we haven't been to Nantwich, but certainly will in the future. It sounds like a lovely place to cruise and to live.
Hi Fran and Richie,
Hows your Brother getting on with his new boat, is he planning on doing UA-cam too?
Will the Whaley bridge spillway failure cause any trouble for you?
The locks on the Macclesfield canal were closed for a few days but have reopened now. We are moving forwards very slowly as we hope the peak forest canal which is currently a no go area will reopen before we get there. we are watching the updates daily!
Its spooky, went through a month ago
How long was that tunnel?
Hi Cheryl, the tunnel is 2926yds long, approx 1.75 miles.....too long!!!!
Not another Froghall nightmare I hope...
Easy compared to Froghall, but not as much fun!
Did you notice How red The water was when you came out the tunnel
I think I spotted the face of the ripper in the stonework as they exited. Not sure...
@@geraldhenrickson7472 Ha Ha!!
The red water is due to the amount of iron in the water running of the hill over the tunne. It is quite dramatic as you come out of the tunnel.
Trent & Mersey locks 36 stokes btm to 40 summit?
Yes, and beyond!
and the water is still orange in colour
Yes, it always looks so strange
Way too many Canadian Geese everywhere. Lakes and beaches closed due to ecology bacteria. The heat we've had here doesn't help either
Hi Marty. There do seem to be a lot of Canada Geese this year. They can be so noisy too. We were woken by them trying to teach their young to fly at 5.30 am today!
SAD TO SEE THE OLD FACTORY BUILDINGS FALLEN INTO DISUSE...VERY RUDE OF THE LOCK WORKERS TO NOT WAIT TO SEE YOU UP IT...WAIT UNTIL YOU GO THROUGH STANNAGE TUNNELLALL 3.5 MILES OF IT...AND THERE ARE FOUR OF THEM ...THE OTHERS FOR RAILWAYS...
Lovely video guys....I absolutely hate tunnels and that one looked so low ....think I may avoid ...! How on earth you manage to steer through a narrow tunnel when can’t stand up at the strern I’ll never know...loooking down the side I guess..? ( I won’t mention the bump on the way out..!). Keep smiling you two ...you both look so well. Cheers Steve and Sue..🍷
Hi Steve and Sue. We needed a bump or two so we don't have to be precious about the paintwork any more. if you hate tunnels it may not be for you, it is long and low but you can still see ok with all the cabin lights on to light side walls.
You both seem to be having a total blast, still..! So enjoyable to watch. Have fun. 🍷🍷
@@stevehoare6378 We are. How about you two?
Still loving canal life.. Hopefully we will bump into you (not literally I trust) very soon. 🍷🍷
How many sugars do you take your cuppa ?, crank it eh ! very technical Fran.....
It is a very technical boating term...I think!
Fran x
You may, or you may not find this interesting, but I am a Stokie so here goes. If someone were to give a huge yawn - a comment might be "Bloody hell, I thought that they had closed the harecastle tunnel. Just part of being a Stokie.
I don't like long tunnels.
Us neither, mainly because they are so boring
8:16 was the turn to Cauldon that you did before ? You didn't get your lock mate as per last time through Stoke ? No issues again in Stoke on Trent >? Seems so ! (so much for negative press and that ex presenter from Top Gear gave to Stoke , Karma is a B*tch served cold => Rory Reid) ! Shame you blasted through without meeting Stokies , getting some Oatcakes,, your loss.
