That orange water is completely freaking me out... 🤔😳😱
I love your photography & music! Cheers 💗
OMG ! The water Vole was so cute. What a lovely cruise, so peaceful. Worth your journey to get there .
The red/brown water is not a mystery... you have uncovered the source of British Rail tea.
Good video. Like the no graffiti on the bridge, beautiful bridge. Loved the narrow boat with the country side scene painted on the side! Gorgeous scenery.
Many thanks!
What a beautiful location to be stuck for a while, it would be easy to make plans to occupy your time there and then not want to leave when they opened up the locks! I so so love the videos where you go on your walks and show the countryside and views & villages. I really liked that old folly - it looked like it had been built to look old and crumbling but it actually isn't? Too bad it wasn't a sunny warm day as that would have been a lovely spot for a picnic, but not so pleasant in the mud! Thx for the video and also for including the bit about calling the boat people. It is helpful to hear how that all works and shows that the service is extremely handy.
Thank you so much. We are hoping to do more walking and exploring videos in the future.
THE WATER VOLE!🥰😍🤩 I had a book about 2 brother voles for my son..sweet book..
Such cute animals
Great to see that water vole. Keep your eyes open for birds - you just seem to show Canada Geese, Swans, Moor Hens, Coots ,,,,, there must be so much bird life that you can see. The more that you learn about birds, the more interesting they become. It can become a great hobby.
Nice looking country side..exploring with the furbabies is grand, and they must just love it also.
Beautiful canal, maintained in its natural state, and you're right to point out, the bridges are not soiled by these horrible tags that we see everywhere
Beautiful vlog as always - you two are definitely living the life
Thank you
My husband won a RCR engine maintenance course at Crick. He entered a raffle and then forgot about it until we got a call saying he had won. I wanted to do it but I Am working 😢 I did say to my husband that you had said about the course when you first started your videos. I also told him about the book you were given.
we never got round to doing the course, but would still love to some day
Beautiful presentation. Haven't looked at much YT for a while. Your early videos from the K&A were good, but these latest ones are even more interesting and informative without any trace of the self-indulgence of some other vloggers. Another thing, your video and audio commentaries feel real rather than slick edited highlights. Please keep it like that.
Thank you Gary. We never rehearse what we say to camera, we find it easier just to talk as if you were all there. It just seems easier and more natural for us. \we're glad you're enjoying the videos.
This American had to “Google” a water vole. 😆 I thought that was someone’s little Yorkshire Terrier in the drink. 😂
It is so good to hear from you. We saw the news about the dam being damaged a while back. I wondered if you were anywhere near. Now I know. Please be very, very careful. Would appreciate any and all updates. Thanks, Merry Ann
Hi Merry Ann, it looks as if all the canals are open now and the dam crisis is over for now.
Macclesfield my home town. Enjoy.
Hi Guys.
Beautiful countryside.
Delighted to hear your heading up north.
Yorkshire is gods own county.
Enjoy stay safe.
Wait...what? Who?
Don't believe it, Yorkshire people are renowned for their tolerance of mediocrity! Do yourselves a favour and come to Lancashire. You may decide not to leave! As you are not from Yorkshire, you should not have any trouble getting past the border guards.
Hi The Peak canal is fantastic and well worth waiting for. If you get chance go through Marple then New Mills and onward to Whaley Bridge (if open and safe of course) and if you get the chance take a detour on the Bugsworth arm of the canal before Whaley Bridge canal. If you like walks than I recommend you moor up at New Mills and go to Hayfield (on the bus). There you can walk up Kinder Scout it's a mountain (only just) and your dogs will love it. It's a great walk and not too difficult. I hope you have a fantastic time. It's Great to see you are up North.
The canals are all open now, so we can go everywhere and will definitely try to get up Kinder Scout. Thank you.
I am so happy that you take us along and share your travels and stories.
I living in Maine, U.S.A. I get to dream what
it must be like living life on a long boat, with your lovable dogs.
Keep up the great vlog and thanks for sharing. Cheers
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment x
Great vlog and what a beautiful place to get stranded for a while.
Hi Rich and Fran, Not sure what happened but 64 was not subscribed to me this time, the bell in brackets is on. I found it on my search. anyway, I have as always enjoyed this blog, and I like the way you give a little commentary. I under stand that the residents have been allowed back, but it is still on standby at a moments notice. Take care guys John NZ
Good Luck. Stay Safe.
Loved this vlog, great stuff. The shot of the water vole priceless. Well done.
We were so lucky just to get it in time. Rich had to run along the gunwhales with the camera as it was swimming towards him. It was such a thrill
Beautiful walk
Mow cop know it well and I fish this canal love the vlog thanks guys 👍🍾🍷🍷
Thank you George. we loved it there
Does the thin air affect the boat ⛵? Fran, your man seems to be losing a bit of weight and your meals are so good for you both. As you can tell, I've been !living the canal life vicariously through you.
The boat is no different, but the air was certainly good for us.
I wish all of you vids were numbered because I’m a new viewer and I’m having trouble keeping up. I realize, it’s my problem 🤣
Thank you so much for watching. If it makes it easier, there is a playlist of all videos in date order on the channel.
That was lovely, the photography on the walk was really beautiful. The business with the dam is unbelievable! When you said things had been a bit up and down you could never have predicted that. I hope it doesn’t affect your plans too much. Thanks for sharing I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you Sylvia. We are back on schedule now. The canal is all open so we are heading along the Peal Forest Canal very soon
Brilliant guys thanks 😁👍👏👏👏
In the USA any repair would have been $500 minimum. So happy for your quick repair. Very nice video. Thanks!
We do have breakdown cover and this was just the excess for parts, but still good value, we think. Thanks for watching x
Looks really good up there you guys. Have loads of fun. See ya soon xx
Yeah we're really loving it. Moored at Bollington now for a while. Xx
What a gorgeous spot....beautiful...really enjoyed watching. Stay safe both...🍷🍷
It really is so lovely her Steve. We are just soaking it all up. x
Another beautiful and fascinating video, the bridges and the milestones are great. So envious!
Love the Macclesfield Canal. As a hirer we miss so much of the surrounding countryside so really enjoyed your hike . We never have time . Happy days 😀
We know we are lucky to have the time to do these extras and we're glad you enjoy it.
Welcome to the Macclesfield area, my home!
Lots of incredible walks around here- Teggs nose isn't too far too walk to from the Marina in Macc, unfortunately it's all up hill on the way there. You will get some spectacular views across Cheshire over towards Wales, and you can even see Mow Cop and a fair bit of the canal you have travelled along!
Enjoy yourselves!
Thank you. It is a wonderful area and we are enjoying so many walks. 11 miles yesterday so resting today .
enjoyed ...love to see the Vole ,....your still loving it thats what matters
Rich used to see lots of voles as a kid, but this was my first really good view.
Fran
Another lovely and informative video, who knew the English countryside could be so beautiful.
Thank you
"Alfie -What's it all about?" !! That was lovely - One thing that I miss from down here in NZ is that OLD STUFF like the dry-stone walls & castle thingies. You are therapeutic. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Martin. The stone walls are very special. we were walking yesterday and just marvelling at the work, energy and manpower needed to build so many miles of walls, many of which are still standing.
4:43--Alfie has his own narrowboat!
look how much fun the dogs had on your walk in this vlog! :-)
good luck with the dam/flooding situation!
The dam situation seems to be sorted now and the canals are open and you are right, the dogs have a wonderful life.
Nice vlog, great countryside
Spectacular scenery. ❤️
Love it -- beautiful part of the world. Used to go to Whaley bridge a lot in my childhood, hope it's OK now.
It all seems to be fine now, but we will have a look when we get closer
You will soon be coming to Macclesfield , just before Macclesfield you will go through Gurnett where on the right in one of the cottages you can see from the canal is where James Brindley the engineer and canal builder who was born in Thornsett, Derbyshire. He was apprenticed to a millwright Abraham Bennett, a wheelwright, whose workshop at Sutton (Gurnett) near Macclesfield still stands (though it is now a garage attached to a private house). He then set himself up in business as a wheelwright in Leek, Staffordshire. Just pass Gurnett you come to what is locally known as the snake bridge, which transferred that horse from one side of the canal to the other. In Macclesfield you will see the old Hovis mill, Macclesfield is the home of Hovis, The brand began in 1886;the Hovis process was patented on 6 October 1887 by Richard "Stoney" Smith (1836-1900), and S. Fitton & Sons Ltd developed the brand, milling the flour and selling it along with Hovis branded baking tins to other bakers.
Saw it on the BeeB over here, let's hope it gets sorted out satisfactorily and no one loses their homes or worse. Take care.
It all appears to be sorted now thank goodness.
Thanks again for another lovely vlog, really enjoyed being with you both.
Thank you
That it i finally caught up. So happy new year 2020.
Happy new year Steve and well done for getting through all our videos. I think we should give out badges
And the perfect opportunity to fly the drone some more. Nice editing when we see the drone shots, not too much, not too little.
Thank you
Love,y Vlog Guys. Keep them coming.👍
another great vlog enjoy your rest and the views
Lovely part of the country - used to live in Marple, so keen to see some more scenery from your travels!
Thank you for watching, there is lots more to come.
Prior to moving to Scotland I lived 3/4 mile from Mow Cop, and have spent hours fishing the canal where you went up the stone steps, certainly brought back some good memories, but I still prefer The Highlands of Scotland. Great video as always, well done guys xx
It really is beautiful here, but we have an upcoming trip to Scotland for a wee holiday and we can't wait.
@@FloatingOurBoat if you end up anywhere near Kingussie a brew is always available xx
Great vlog as usual, glad RCR worked their magic too ! That 1000ft hill is where the Celebrity Barging lot visited , anyway hope you batten down for the windy weather !
That was beautifully produced! The lighting was spectacular, transitions were smooth, the colors were fantastic and I haven’t the foggiest idea what I am talking about, but it sounds good. Because it is lovely (the video, the boat and you two, not the language). I grew up at 8000 feet and would hike and climb up the mountain to 14000 feet to a couple of little lakes on the top of the mountain and pitch a tent. But then I had my son. He did not do well at 6500, did better at a mile high (Albuquerque) but was perfect at 3000ft. And I had patients who would visit in Albuquerque from the lowlands and they would have a rough time of it. So I don’t laugh. I think, as high as you were that the cloud wasn’t so low as the ground was high. One of our grandkids was driving home with us from Florida for his first summer with granny and papa. We were talking to him about fog and how it can be formed at high altitudes. He was 5, the magical age where they can’t wait to go stay awhile. He said ‘you mean we are in the clouds?!? I LOVE my life! So funny. And I went way off somewhere else. Sorry. Fran, your left ankle is a little weak. When you are sitting around, start writing with your toes in the air. I would tell my daughter to use her toes to call me the ugly names she was thinking. The variety of movements will strengthen your ankle. Do both feet because when one weakens, the other will falter. Big loopy letters with great flourish. If it hurts, back off the size a bit. You don’t want to pull a muscle so don’t push that hard. Don’t make your letters big enough to hurt, and that can be your gauge. Shutting up now. Awfully bossy, that. My apologies. Thank you for a fantastic video. Now I would like to hike where you just went. Look around the tower.
Thank you so much Rebecca and don't apologise please. How observant you are. I have been having trouble a little with my left ankle, but didn't think too much of it. I will definitely try the writing exercises. in fact I will start now. I also have weak knees from mistracking patellars, so we are hoping that gradually building up the walking carefully will help.
We love the idea of walking and camping, what you have done sounds wonderful. We have lots walks planned so hope to show more. x
We came down the Trent with narrow boat Priscilla who are based at Macclesfield we left them in Nottingham as they were unsure as to how far they would be able to get. I guess from you vlog not very far. Hope it works out for you. Take care.
Great video guys, looks amazing over there
Thank you. It is amazing scenery up here and we are loving it. Thanks for watching
Fab vlog - can’t wait to get on there 😆
Lovely vlog. Have passed Mow Cop on the Trent and Mersey a couple of times, but never took time to walk up there. Thanks for the trip to the top of the hill!
If ever you get the chance to go there, it is well worth the climb
Hi, we live on the Peak Forest Canal and met you both at Crick Show this year.
We would love say hi as your passing. We live in the Bredbury/Romiley area. Love your vlogs, stay safe 😁
Hi Gareth. we have been going very slowly, but should be on the Peak Forest Canal soon now.
Spent many a happy day playing on Mow Cop, as a child sixty years ago. There is a run up the road to Mow Cop every year called the killer mile.
Stoke on Trent Amateur Radio Society have an amateur tv repeater situated on one of the masts on top of the hill, callsign GB3UD.
On a good day, when the sun shines, you can see right across Cheshire. Most days you can see Jodrell Bank radio telescope.
When we went up, the weather was a little cloudy on and off, but we did see Jodrell bank, It was an amazing view up there.
New Mills, my home town, was affected by road closures because of the dam. My son struggled to get home from us. The residents of Whaley were allowed home yesterday. Hopefully now the canals will be opening again. It will be a shame if you cant do Marple locks, they are beautiful. See you at the weekend.
Canals are all open now so we are all smiles again. Looking forward to seeing you x
Nice story telling folks. Very poignant for me, born in Buxton, living in NZ most of my life, had a friend in Congleton who's father had small holding near MowCop years ago. My Mums family were from Peak Dale, near Peak Forest. Great life for you, enjoy every moment, keep smiling. Very up to date with the Whaley Bridge events, dreadful for all involved but thanks to very committed services.
Thank you Sue. We are planning more walks as we head along the Peak Forest Canal, so hopefully we will bring back more happy memories for you.
A View of three shire counties from Mow Cop!
It was really stunning up there.
Stay safe🙋🏼
Cranking it or mooring for the surrounding scenery mmmm i certainly know which id choose! Fab vlog as always! (cider in hand) cheers for here in east Devon!!
We have been in the same place for nearly a week now. Unheard of for us.
Yer never know whats under the cut, but thanks to a forethought by yourselves you joined a rescue company. Essential when your CCing, carry on drifting you two. A cascade of concrete, nice description of a near disaster.
watching the news about the dam at Whaley Bridge I was wondering about boats on the Macclesfield, you have answered that brilliantly Please keep us informed about whats happening. By the way before you told us about the dam I was really excited to see the water vole. Cheerts both keep them coming.
All the locks and the Peak forest canal are open now, so it is full steam ahead....well at 2mph anyway!!!
Wow, super vlog! I like yours travel! Good things Nucu 👍
Hi there a great vlog, as always beautiful countryside, clean bridges, good walks. enjoy but be careful of the dam ??? Ed 40 s of Vegas
On Friday evening on Channel 5 there is a programme called 'Celebrity 5 Go Barging', and on last weeks episode Michael Burke and Shaun Williamson went to the folly at Mow Cop.
Lots of people have told us about this, but we haven't seen any episodes. We really aren't trying to copy their journey!!! x
Great vid you two, loves ya. Looking forward to October. Xx
Loves ya too xx
Great vlog loved the views of the folly and that vole, never seen one of those!
Thanks Robbie. How's life your end?
Floating Our Boat All good speak to you soon!
Bosley Locks are probably the pretiest on the system. Even if you can only go a few miles along the peak forest canal it;s worth it for the views. The reservoir is virtuallu empty now so shouldn't be an issue. You went past our home marina Heritage Narrowboats at Scholar Green where the bribges have spiral stonework. Happy travels. You'll enjoy the Mac.
Thank you Gordon. You moor in a beautiful place. We intend to go right along the Peak forest Canal and we're really looking forward to it.
@@FloatingOurBoat Bugsworth Basin is very nice with some good walks from it. Worth spending a day or two there. There is a big Tesco just before at the juction for Whaley Bridge. Really pretty area. I'm sure you will like it along with the Mac too.
Just beautiful...crack on...
it's difficult to describe the real feeling of tranquility when pottering along at a snails pace thoiugh an ever slightly changing vista of rolling English hills no matter what the weather... however you two manage to convey it so well. There are many worse places to be trapped for a while, but I hope they let people up to Peak Forest as it is wonderful.
Have you thought of something like a Olhan Coupling or shear-clutch between the gearbox and shaft? Could save the expensive gearbox when the runnaway Tesco trolley wraps around the prop.
Hi Malcolm, thank you for your lovely comment. The Peak Forest canal is open now so it's all looking good for us. We are definitely not mechanically minded, so not sure what the coupling is that you mention, but it all seems to be sorted now anyway. Thank you for the advice.
love your videos me and my wife are looking to buy a narrowboat and have an early retirment im looking forward to our own adventures like you have keep up the good content
Thank you for watching and for your comment.
Hi guys!
I can think of worse places to be stuck for a week or three, as long as your poop tank doesn't get full. There's always the old *kick it about 'til you lose it* trick. ;o)
Beautiful countryside oop north.
All the best.
What great views. Definitely would not be in any hurry to move on . Hate to say it but a composting toilet really would be of a benefit . However I understand why you have a pump out.
The dog's rearly seem to be having a ball. Anyway thanks for the videos,. be safe.
Hi Colin, given the choice we would definitely have a composting toilet, but the boat came with pump out and it is not a priority to replace it at the moment. You are right about the dogs, they have a wonderful life.
Floating Our Boat . Understand that. I watched minimal list when they did there's. Personally if I had a boat I would have that tank replaced with another water tank. Then have the system plumbing run through it so that when your main tank say's it's almost empty you know that the other tank is still full. Bib and braces plus your constantly changing the water in it.
Getting closer to Bollington and Marple/ New mills/ Furness vale!!!! Whaley Bridge. Oh, Buxworth Basin.
Can't wait.
Here two years too late, but who cares …. Lovely vlog ….
Thank you!
Miss your original opening music
Thanks for your comment John. We just felt it was time for a little change.
Initial thought in first seconds of video was "Did a tank truck full of orange juice fall in the canal?"
Oh, I dunno, since they've already been dropping sandbags in the area, the RAF would probably be happy to drop pallets of water bottles on your boats.
Let's see, water bottle on my desk here is 1/2 liter, would take about 800 of those to fill a 400 liter water tank.
Then the RAF could drop a net to put the empty bottles in, Oh! or maybe use one of the wildfire fighting buckets, and come back to responsibly collect the empty water bottles after y'all have poured them in to the boat's tank.
Yeah! That'll work! And it wasn't even necessary to call in Heath Robinson as an engineering consultant.
Man, those 2 boats with the artwork were something.
Scott, I think you have too much time on your hands to sit and work that one out!!!!! x
@@FloatingOurBoat Hey, don't blame me, blame my autism! :D
Nice video. If you can get out and about, it must make the whole experience much more pleasurable. The dogs certainly loved it, bless 'em! That folly was very magical, well worth the climb?
We are loving the outside life and the walking. Thanks for watching
Wow... the weather is wreaking havoc in England too, it seems. Hope all goes well with that town there(!). Here in Norway, there's been some dramatic stuff happening lately too, due to excessive rainfall. Near the town of Førde (in western Norway; typical fjord landscape with high, steep mountains) it resulted in several nasty land slides. One of which effectively cutting a residential area in half (no injuries or deaths), and another one sweeping a car clean off a local road and into lake Jølster. Occupant most probably dead. And, as if that wasn't enough, last weekend, there was one mother of a thunderstorm over Oslo, flooding the tube, countless cellars, streets...
And last year, we had the driest summer in 71 years, with huge forest fires several places all over Southern Norway and Sweden... Something is definately up with the weather, that's for sure(!).
That sounds terrible for you. Our bad weather is still continuing. We hardly have a day without rain, yet, as you say, last summer was so hot and dry. And people still deny climate change!!! It is very worrying.
@@FloatingOurBoat The rampant reality denial in some circles these days is very worrying indeed. They're prepared to deny everything, it seems... The shape of the earth, the existence of space... Even Australia (yes, there is a whole Australia-is-fake fraternity out there, believe it or not...). What the h*** is wrong with people?!
Could you advise us who fitted your solar panels, they look very neat. Thanks for your interesting vlogs.
At the moment they are just lying on the roof as we are waiting to paint it. Then they will go back on the little triangular adjustable brackets which we fitted in an earlier video. They wer originally fitted by the previous owner.
Floating Our Boat thanks for your reply, I saw the brackets on an earlier vlog but thought they look great without them he he. I have seen one person who uses small self made brackets but obviously they don’t tilt. Thanks again. Xx
That water looks as bad as our water looks after a power outage and the community well shuts down.
Alfie, what's it all about?! I'm reading an Agatha Christi book right now and a Folly plays a key part of the mystery! I've been read her books (many of them multiple times) over the years and I find them so relaxing I see no need for any others! A production question: When you set the camera up on the path and both go up the stairs, who goes back down for the camera? The view at 14:11 made the trip well worth while! That damned Dam damage looked dire! I suppose it held as I have not heard of it giving way.
Ha ha! It is usually Rich who goes back for e camera as he is the one with the artistic ideas!. Thanks for watching.
Are you the lady who was using the soap nuts ? As we bought some today to try 👍
Yes, that was us in episode 12. we still use them all the time. for best results, mix them in a little really hot water before adding them to the machine. This helps them foam up a little more. Good luck.
Thank you for that info , my name is Pauline ,if you have any more good tips on anything that you have found that works for you pls can you let me know 👍
What a wonderful cruising video! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the story as you travel north!
Thank you Jack, There's plenty more to come
That vole reminds me of the Wind in Willows.
Well of course, after all "...there is nothing, absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
That makes me want to read the book.
@@bdh3949 , Never read it, but we have it at the cottage, so I think I'll bring it to the boat.
Being dyslexic, reading it as kid, it was real chore. It was one of my first audiobooks I downloaded. Then every Sherlock Homes I could find.

Just subbed
Love your blogs
I've watched one which you mentioned no more lea n perines sauce cos it's not for veggies
Have you tried Henderson's Yorkshire relish?
It's veggie friendly and tastes same if not better
Float safe

Wow nice boat! How fast can it go?
Oh, about 18 miles a week.
What did you do about food supplies....
We carried enough with us just for one night
Hi, great videos and following you now! Just wondering, we are totally new to this. You mentioned 'road' or should I saw canal side assistance. How do you arrange this and who are you with? Thanks
I remember looking at Google Earth and seeing the color of the canals up north looking "muddy" or iron-filled, as you say! I was anxious for your trip there to find out if it had been an ecological temporary event, or if it truly looked that way. I guess we have the answer now! Can't say, enough, how excited I get when you post a new vlog!
Thank you so much Lisa xx
😎😎😎😎😎
Excellent vlog - what cover do you have on RCR?
We only have bronze cover, but it does come with parts cover and we have an excess to pay on that. It has been brilliant for us.
Have you upgraded/updated your camera?
Certainly looks like it, quality fantastic.
Thank you. It is the same camera and equipment. I just think Rich is getting better and better at it!

Hi guys. Is it your intent to travel The Peak Forest Canal into Ashton-Under-Lyne? Right at the Junction with the Ashton Narrow Canal, there is a Canal Transportation Museum and interpretive center , it's called Portland Basin. Do you intend to turn left to Manchester or right to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal through Standedge Tunnel? It's the longest ( over 3 mile long), highest and deepest tunnel in the U.K. Uppermill and Diggle on the Huddersfield are interesting villages, lots of good walking. Diggle is the Western end if the tunnel and lots of mooring, also wise to check first. My best friends have a dog groomers at the car park and lives at the first house nearest the canal tunnel. Ashton is my home town, now living in Canada, wish I was home, I could be your tour guide and lockie for your transit through Ashton up to Diggle or down to Manchester. Take care, stay safe. Happy cruising. Ken. Ps Hope you get through the mess at Whalley Bridge and Marple.
Thank you for that Ken, At the moment we are planning on along the Huddersfield Narrow, but as you know, we often change our minds. Shame you're not here to lend a hand with the locks!
Quick note - On Huddersfield canal just past Lock 7 West in Stalybridge, theres a small boatyard on your left called Knowle Street Boatyard in the Winding Hole, if you need anything done. If you need your dogs groomed while you go for a walk in Diggle, the lady groomers name is Rusty, ( her husband Alan and I have known each other 60+ years), tell her Roy (that's my middle name) in Canada sent you. Theres a nice pub called Diggle Inn/Hotel about the entrance to the railway tunnels. Really looking forward to seeing your vlogs of your transit from Marple to Huddersfield, ( my old playground as a kid.). Stay safe, happy cruising. K.
Lovely vlog. Music, not so much.
