    Thanks for this video , I'm swapping the 47mm Showas from a Honda CR250R spare set onto a 1982 Husqvarna 250CR , improving the long-legged desert flyer's already plush but dated handling performance and gaining the much needed disc brake!

    I own a 2000 XR400R that I installed a complete front end from a 2010 CRF250R, All ball's Racing sells steering bearing conversion kits to make the swap a piece of cake (They also have a chart to show what bearings you would need if you want to use a front end from another manufacturer). I used a die grinder to shave down the steering stops and the front number plate locators so the lower clamp would clear the frame.

      I want to do this to my 1985 xr600r what front end would go on with no mods?

    The XR’s deserved better suspension from the factory, best dirt bikes ever made. Not the fastest etc. the best.

    I used forks from a 650L. They are really good forks and easier to mount

    Hey man, I have an 84 honda xr200r I am trying to get the camshaft sprocket onto the cam. I watched your video on it but you cut off the part when you did it. I got it on there once but when the engine was tdc the cam lobes were facing the wrong way. Thanks for the videos they are helping a ton.

      It's a pain, i had to have help. There should be a way to adjust the
      tensioner so you can get it on. I'm really not familiar with the xr200.

      @ramertv6321 3 роки тому

      @@WeekendAdventureRides Thanks for the quick reply! From the video, the engines look identical. I might try holding the chain back with a screwdriver as you did. I don't know Honda had to make this chain tensioner such a pain. Wish I could back to 84' and talk some sense into the designer.

    • @corylangille1869

      Cam lobes down on engines with the cam rockers attached to the valve cover, always take the cam tensioner off when setting the time and install the tensioner after the cam sprocket is installed and in time.

    Very sweet that it's possible to do the conversion.i wasn't looking for a video about it but I definitely was wondering if it was possible .any idea how to convert an XR to rear disc instead of drum brakes?

    • @WeekendAdventureRides
      @WeekendAdventureRides  Рік тому

      I've never done that on an XR. I have on other bikes. The basics would be to measure the spacing of the swing arm where the axle goes through and compare it to an 86-95 XR, if it's equal then it would be easy but if it's smaller it would be a pain. Larger space would require custom spacers to line everything up. You would need new rear wheel with disc, brake caliper, brake hose, master cyclinder. Then, you would probably need to build custom mounts for everything.

    hello my friend
    Great job!!!
    Can i ask you, if you now, wich upside down fork fitt on nx 650 dominator?
    thank you

      I would use the Showa on that bike as well. I believe that it has the same size tube as the xr650.

    What's your plan for the front axle/hub/caliper and will you be using the XR front rim/wheel?

    • @WeekendAdventureRides
      @WeekendAdventureRides  3 роки тому

      I used ebay to get the rest of the crf front end which can be either 250 or 450

  • @SkinnySkinch
    @SkinnySkinch 2 роки тому +1

    I bought a 1997 XR400r street legal supermoto setup that had this upside-down fork conversion from a CRF and this thing turns so weird now whenever you turn the wheel the wheel like pulls the bike even further through the turn it's hard to explain it's like once you go slightly off center left or right you have to fight the bars to keep them from turning even sharper. It's dangerous on the street.

    • @WeekendAdventureRides
      @WeekendAdventureRides  2 роки тому

      Sounds like the geometry is off. I would adjust the forks in the triple clamp. The crf forks are about 1.5 inches longer than the xr forks on the 250 if i recall correctly. I had to put bar risers on in order to get the correct amount of fork thru the clamp. Also make sure both forks are tuned the same. Does it pull more one way than the other?

    • @SkinnySkinch
      @SkinnySkinch 2 роки тому

      @@WeekendAdventureRides I actually lowered the forks into the clamps all the way thinking that would help as they were almost touching the bars when I got it. It didn’t seem to make a difference. I’ll try getting bar risers and see if raising them even more than when I first got it makes a difference. It doesn’t pull harder one way or another as far as I can tell

    • @WeekendAdventureRides
      @WeekendAdventureRides  Рік тому

      It's a matter of adapting the triple clamp from the donor bike to the Tao tao. Take both triples to a machinest and tell them what you are trying to do.

  • @64maxpower
    @64maxpower 2 роки тому

    Did you shorten your forks at all? I can't see them behind the same length from the axle to top of triple. I just left my 650L forks stock but dropped them as much as I could. I think they ended up 3/4" longer but looks more because the stock springs were so soft

      I'd love to but I don't have an xr100. I'm sure the procedure for the 250 is exactly the same. Figure out how much fork oil you need. Replace all the seals and bushings

      Look up fork tube diameter for crf100 then compare it to other bikes fork diameter. Idk off hand what diameter they are.
