Tarmogoyf was in my local store's cheap card binder for $10... how the mighty have fallen. Broke my heart. I remember opening one in a MM2 draft and losing my mind! The Pro Tour when it was picked over a Burst Lightning ... so many great stories with the goyf.
Preordered my playset before Futuresight hit the shelves for ten bucks. Sold them for 170 around 2009. They did get even more expensive later but I didn't care.
One of my fondest memories of Magic is opening a box of Modern Masters with the friend who introduced me to the game. I remember how hard my hand was shaking as I opened a Tarmogoyf. He'll always be the king to me.
Still have my tarmos...the card is still good in modern, maybe not in the actual best deck, but who cares? He can eventually become better with the addition of battles in the format (good ones, of course)

You're a great friend, doesn't matter how cheap they are now, but if someone gives me a set of goyfs, one of the most iconic mtg creatures of all time, i'd explode with happiness too lol
I reckon Ragavan will go the same way as Goyf. Answers will be printed that handle it too efficiently, the meta will shift, power creep will happen, but it has a level of iconic-ness that will prevent people from selling it for too cheap. Just the fact that it is _the_ Ragavan will probably be enough to keep demand high.
They already printed answers to it in the form of the pitch-cast elementals. Eventually every one-drop creature will need to have Ancestral Recall stapled onto it in order to be considered playable. In a roundabout way, Ragavan is already dangerously close to being exactly that as it is.
Also, I doubt Ragavan will ever be as iconic as Goyf was simply because of how long Goyf was good. Currently WotC's card-creating policies DEPEND on making Ragavan unplayable as soon as possible in order to capitalize on the market of competitive players.

Serum Visions and Vendilion Clique still see play in 1v1 Highlander formats. V Clique was recently added to Arena so now I get to hit my fellow Zoomers with them.
Serum Visions and Preordained are two of my favorite cards of all time cause they allow me to play Ancestral Recall in my Commander deck without spending my rent money on a single card. Lol
My friends and I started doing this thing where we made commander decks for each other, without telling them anything about the deck. We then all play a game with these decks, with the commanders face down. As a special action on your turn, you may ask a yes or no question about your commander, and then you may guess the commander. You may only cast the commander once you have gotten it right. It is an interesting test for improvisation and figuring out the deck you are playing on the fly. I highly recommend it, even off camera. Side note: because tutors make the mystery aspect of the game less interesting, we have a restriction on all tutors that you have 3 seconds to look at the deck for your tutor target. Ya know, so they won’t search through the deck finding all the combos, and instead need to figure them out more naturally.
I had preordered 2 tarmos at $15 each... then I sold them when they were worth $50, xince there was no way they would ever be worth more than that... how my heart ended up bleeding when their value continued going up
Rag will bottom at $13 if it sees reprints and some key red decks see bans AND another bowmasters like card gets printed again to make X/1s bad. It’s too efficient in too many decks to ever be truly a bulk rare.
I could see Ragavan being still a good one drop in 10 years. A good one amongst many others. Watching this video reminds me that I once bought a playset of kitchen finks for 15 € each. 😂😅

If Magic continues its current trend, I expect the equivalent Ragavan in ten years to be a 0-mana uncounterable creature with Flash and Split Second that can be cast from your library that says "You win the game you're playing, all games you'll ever play until the end of time, and all games that you have ever played in the past, but only if you own 1000 unique WotC NFTs and have sold half your brain to Hasbro for digital storage."
I started playing modern Jund around 2015 and the price of the Goyfs and Lilis alone was probably around €7-800. The fall in price does not make me sad because more affordable cards makes Magic a better and more accessible game. The bit that does make me sad is that part of the reason the price has fallen is that these cards are less viable in modern than they used to be. I have so many great memories attached to these cards and I miss being able to cast them. I'm pretty sure I even cast a few against Jamin at a GP many years ago!
i sold my Sheoldred, the Apocalypse from DMU Prerelease too early for ~50 €. but i see her ~80€ status right now in danger. Hasbro will reprint... sooner or later
I hope that magic is still something that we can all still enjoy this much 10 years from now (also i hope that Ragsy drops by then or I'm never completing my legends collection)
So sad about goyf and clique. For me still staples in my heart... And it was probably the modern format that i enjoy the most ( i played a lot of temur eternal command )
I know you talked about it briefly all the enchantments you could draft in Wilds of Eldraine. One that has been really fun to play is Necropotence. I can't play it on arena in any other format so I draft it every time I see it lol
How is Necropotence "fun"? It's just overpowered. In draft(20life, 1v1, no tutors, primary wincon is always through life-reducing beatdown) it's barrrrely scratching the line of "powerful, but not completely bonkers overpowered".
@@music00soba We all know that people like playing obviously overpowered cards. The whole question is "where is the fun aside from the obvious outrageous overpoweredness?".
Ah yeah Utopia sprawl...Wilds of Eldraine definitely did a number on that card. I bought a box of WoE and I think I must have pulled like 7 or 8 of the damn things. They are *super* common on the bonus sheet compared to Rhystic Study or Smothering Tithe (both of which have also dropped in price thanks to the reprints with only the anime Smothering Tithe still being above £20 if you buy from UK only)
That was an absolutely *wild* bait at the end, most people when they do a bit like that sit on it for a second or two, I genuinely thought the video was over 🤣
Very well done and interesting but looks like you missed the elefant in the room: enemy fetchlands have dropped half in price since 2016 where they were 25€ RW, 30€ BW, 35€ BG, 40€ UG, 45€ UR; Snapcaster Mage, a creature that not only used to be 40€ each but also was "the best creature printed in modern" for Reid Duke; Jace TMS, who, speaking of modern, was banned for many years and now struggles to see play at all; Knight of Reliquary, another big name in the modern menu back in 2015-16, now pretty cheap; Dark Confidant, who was the best draw engine in black now has been pushed out of Magic by W&6.
I was glad to see Exsanguinate get reprinted with some sweet new art. I had two playsets that I traded in a couple years ago, and damn am I glad I did. I HATE that they keep insisting that Urza gets reprinted. My Retro foil is not happy....😭
Alot of these cards when revealed broke my heart. Especially when I buy them before their price dropped. May I ask for a continuation? Also, how many giant half cards do you guys have?
I play with Strip Mine in commander, targeted land destruction is sometimes needed. Lands like Gaea's Cradle and other lands need to be dealt with. Just don't run mass land destruction, that makes you a jerk.
oh dang, i started building a deck that wants to run Exsanguinate like a year before Commander Masters but decided to play something cheaper in its place. Guess it's time to get one of those slotted in there!
I sold all my goyfs when it was sitting at $100 each when MM15 dropped...(sold 5 total) a few friends said I was nuts. I had seller remorse...until I bought a whole new playset for $24.
A friend had fate reforged promo ugin and sold it. I was one day late my brother wanted to give him his Tarmogoyf which the friend could've sold for a higher price to trade for the Ugin. Both were kinda disappointed. Knowing the price drop this hurts even more. Especially because it was hard for my brother to sell cards after all he lives on the country side. And well he wasn't too sure about shipping.
This is why i buy box to draft them and i only use custom proxies for my commander decks. The price volatility of magic card outside reserved list is too big...
about ragavan i think he will always be around 40, he will not be reprinted probably as then we need to go back to kaladesh which is highly unlikelly that it will happen soon(although i would love it as it is my favorite set), the only thing that could happen is banning ragavan from any format that will lower the price a lot, everyone that does not play it anymore will sell the card as fast as possible flooding the market with ragavans.
Off topic of the video but thanks to you guys I finally started playing MTG! Started on MTGA with the color challenges and now I'm building a budget Urza EDH deck (fitting for the thumbnail lol! All the bits and pieces were surprisingly cheap! Even the cedh staple!) Now I'm looking into a 60 card format to get into and I'm considering either Pauper or Pioneer. Thanks for introducing me to this world! (Though my wallet would be less happy lmao)
That's so sweet to hear! :D welcome to our favourite game! I'd recommend pauper as a fun early format as the decks are cheap and play more fairly than any other format :) thank you for your comment
Excellent. I'll see you guys again in 10 years. I'll still watch your other videos in the meantime cuz you guys freakin rock and love the content, but yeah. I'll still see you all then.
In 10 years, if any of you have changed jobs, moved countries, even if Card Market or the UA-cam channel is dead, hell even if Magic is dead, we will still want the 3 of you to get together for the Ragavan price video
Currently, October 2023, a (near mint trend) Ragavan is ~62 (near mint trend) Sol rings on CardMarket. My guess is that in 2033 it will be ~10 Sol rings. I legit think it will never be strictly powercrept, but I think it might get banned in some formats, or non-commander formats might die down, or the gameplay might evolve where Ragavan isn't seeing top tier play.
Gonna agree with you there. I don't think they will ever make a strictly better ragavan, it will probably just stop being played due to metagame changes. If non-commander formats die, magic dies, so we don't need to worry about that scenario since then everything will collapse anyway.
Ragavan is gonna be bulk 100% in a decade, you think Modern Horizons 12 isn't going to completely invalidate it? By then we'll have a one mana 3/3 with haste that wins you the game when it deals combat damage
Well, mtg is increasingly turning into yugioh in the last 4 years or so. It didnt quiet jump off the cliff as much as konami did , but its getting there.
One thing to keep in mind is that Wizards stock price has tanked this year. For the first time in a long time, wall Street doesn't have high hopes for the future of MTG. In ten tears, Ragavan might be the most expensive creature in modern at $15

OOOOOOH heck yeah! Pauper commander is the best.
Low-budget commander is also fun, just a little more tedious.
I love these segments. Many of these needed a reprint.
i sold my Sheoldred, the Apocalypse from DMU Prerelease too early for ~50 €. but i see her ~80€ status right now in danger. Hasbro will reprint... sooner or later
I hope that magic is still something that we can all still enjoy this much 10 years from now (also i hope that Ragsy drops by then or I'm never completing my legends collection)
In 10 years no one will even know what Ragavan does, and honestly it’ll be better that way
It has enough text that alot of players don't know what it does now
So sad about goyf and clique. For me still staples in my heart... And it was probably the modern format that i enjoy the most ( i played a lot of temur eternal command )
I know you talked about it briefly all the enchantments you could draft in Wilds of Eldraine. One that has been really fun to play is Necropotence. I can't play it on arena in any other format so I draft it every time I see it lol
just play it in paper, where you can proxy out a deck with all the other fun expensive cards
I saw it earlier today in a Historic Brawl match, so it must be legal there.
How is Necropotence "fun"? It's just overpowered.
In draft(20life, 1v1, no tutors, primary wincon is always through life-reducing beatdown) it's barrrrely scratching the line of "powerful, but not completely bonkers overpowered".
@@TehKorwinMikke some people enjoy playing with good cards its not that deep
@@music00soba We all know that people like playing obviously overpowered cards. The whole question is "where is the fun aside from the obvious outrageous overpoweredness?".
"Noone will be caught dead playing a Wild Nacatl"
Me, who played it a few nights ago: 👀
Ah yeah Utopia sprawl...Wilds of Eldraine definitely did a number on that card. I bought a box of WoE and I think I must have pulled like 7 or 8 of the damn things. They are *super* common on the bonus sheet compared to Rhystic Study or Smothering Tithe (both of which have also dropped in price thanks to the reprints with only the anime Smothering Tithe still being above £20 if you buy from UK only)
I'm sad to see Tarmogoyf fall so far. I forgot who said this, but Tarmogoyf was the best blue creature, haha,
I think we should all measure the price of cards in Sol Rings from now on
Great content as always
That was an absolutely *wild* bait at the end, most people when they do a bit like that sit on it for a second or two, I genuinely thought the video was over 🤣
very interesting, thanks cardmarket!
Lilliana of the Veil is also a card I "lost" a lot of money on. Used to be amazing in modern, but now? Nobody plays it anymore.
Mono-Black Pioneer plays her, and there’s also 8-rack. But yeah, not a ubiquitous card in Modern anymore
13:03 Nice on Toffel. Don´t know how many caught that song reference.
Hearing the music swell...then noting that there are 4 minutes left in the video and getting excited for more content 😁
WE NEED THOSE TWO EPISODES
Great format, great music too!
Great video, if you guys are planning to do another you should add mikaeus the unhalloed ❤
They did urza dirty man. Breaks my heart. My mh2 urza etched is still one of my favorite pulls. Unreal the amount of reprints. What 8 bucks now?
I've never bought utopia sprawl for the price, then i watched the video.
Thank you! ❤
All these cards are great for a cube! And deliciously cheap...
Excellent *taps fingers together*
do this more this is so cool! (you should do biggest price drops of all time)
I play with Strip Mine in commander, targeted land destruction is sometimes needed. Lands like Gaea's Cradle and other lands need to be dealt with. Just don't run mass land destruction, that makes you a jerk.
Perfect!
Halloween of next year!
Perfect timing 😁😁
Lyobe your content and cant wait to see that video on ragavan's value 😅😅
oh dang, i started building a deck that wants to run Exsanguinate like a year before Commander Masters but decided to play something cheaper in its place. Guess it's time to get one of those slotted in there!
Bought 12 utopia sprawl for 0.40 ea shortly after the reprint lol some great reprints in that set
I think Vendilion Clique would still be worth 10-15$ if Wren and Six and Bowmasters weren’t in Modern.
Love watching these guys!!!! Great line-up
I got the confetti foil doubling season and I'm considering selling it now because of powercreep more than because of reprints.
Sell the trash gimmick now!
Crazy how ragavan was 60€ like in march of this year and now it's at around 30
I sold all my goyfs when it was sitting at $100 each when MM15 dropped...(sold 5 total) a few friends said I was nuts. I had seller remorse...until I bought a whole new playset for $24.
NOW THIS IS THE BEST TYPE OF CONTENT stuff like this I love and neeed!
When do you think Dauthi Voidwalker will drop price? I'm actually building Greel's commander (shown in this channel) and this one is too expensive ;(
I predict Ragavan will be worth 9.18USD and solring will be worth 1 cent each, so 1 Ragavan will be 918 Sol Rings
Can we talk about Gilded Drake needing a reprint? Lol. My Aminatou needs it.
I never had the goyfs, but I wish I had known to sell my Serum Visions. They are just sitting in a box.
And well he wasn't too sure about shipping.
love the new improved set !
This is why i buy box to draft them and i only use custom proxies for my commander decks.
The price volatility of magic card outside reserved list is too big...
Let the people ramp! 😂 I agree Jamin!
about ragavan i think he will always be around 40, he will not be reprinted probably as then we need to go back to kaladesh which is highly unlikelly that it will happen soon(although i would love it as it is my favorite set), the only thing that could happen is banning ragavan from any format that will lower the price a lot, everyone that does not play it anymore will sell the card as fast as possible flooding the market with ragavans.
When Modern was announced I traded my extra V cliques for a Library of Alexandria. Good times.
Cool video and all, but the real star is Carl's shirt. Nice fit, man!
I guess they're saving Snapcaster for another video. I picked up a playset on the cheap, but I can't make them make sense in that many builds.
Still playable in EDH.
Thanks for the BONUS CARD
Excellent. I'll see you guys again in 10 years.
I'll still watch your other videos in the meantime cuz you guys freakin rock and love the content, but yeah. I'll still see you all then.
still can't afford a modern deck
carls outfits are always amazing
Knowing wotc, in 10 years ragavan will be power crept by “prime ragavan” this time its free to cast. 😂
In 10 years, if any of you have changed jobs, moved countries, even if Card Market or the UA-cam channel is dead, hell even if Magic is dead, we will still want the 3 of you to get together for the Ragavan price video
Holy shit I wish I knew Tarmogoyf was worth that much at one point, fairly certain I have a couple of them resting peacefully in my bulk green.
If non-commander formats die, magic dies, so we don't need to worry about that scenario since then everything will collapse anyway.
mom, dad, the european card? company? comfort channel? posted again
Dang, should've got out of my foil playset of dissension utopia sprawl when they were $50.
One thing to keep in mind is that Wizards stock price has tanked this year. For the first time in a long time, wall Street doesn't have high hopes for the future of MTG. In ten tears, Ragavan might be the most expensive creature in modern at $15
true but stock prices are not in any way related to the real world.
im suprised liliana of the veil and karn liberated weren't included in this list. Ragavan will hopefully be $5 in 10 years.
