Toyota (and by extension Lexus), Mazda, and Honda (Acura), yeah, I can agree with that statement. The other Japanese automakers are in fact subdivisions of heavy industry companies, soullessly cranking out car after car to make a buck. Not to say Nissans and Subarus and Mitsubishis aren't great cars, they just lack something.
Thank you MotorTrend for telling this story. Sometimes quarter mile times and 0-60 times only tell one side. The emotion behind a car and the people that invest so much of their time into it makes me appreciate it for more. I don't think we get enough of this.
My favorite japanese car. Ever. Bar none. Nothing comes close for me. Not the GTR, nsx or Supra. There's something so special about the LFA. And simply knowing the fact that I could probably never have one kind of sucks. But I guess that's what dreams are for. If I could so much as drive one I would be insanely happy.
The ONLY supercar that I would want to buy secondhand, service it, maintain it and drive it, provided there is one for sale and I have the money to buy, even though it is already 6 years old.
I was close to tears in the end, this is really the most beautiful car I've ever seen. For many years the viper was my favorite car, but a year ago, I first learned about this car to detail and heard the sound it made. I fell in love. Since then I've followed everything related to it and it now is my favorite car. As some people already said, Id get this car over any other.
I genuinely think when a group of people pour everything into a car like this, its almost impossible to produce a successor. Thank you Lexus and Tanahashi san for producing such an incredible car. It's sound alone is unparalleled.
believe me bro i go through it every single time, i always get rejected but when i get to drive my dads car around town the joy and sense of pride overcomes my broken heart and i love it, thats why from now on i will invest both my time and money on cars. cheers
If there is one thing we can take away from this video, it is the passion these workers put into their craft. It's not just a job, but an experience they get to participate in and enjoy. You wonder if the same passion goes into other performance shops like ///M division at BMW or the Corvette team. As always, props to Motor Trend
Ah, one of my favorite cars ever and one I sincerely hope to own in the future. This video displays the passion and dedication behind its engineers and manufacturers in building such a magnificent vehicle. The LFA will be remembered as one of the best sounding cars to ever be built.
When the lead engineer was talking about precision, and working with the air as opposed to forcefully cutting through it, I swear I was going to cry. Amazing video about amazing people crafting an amazing machine. And I agree, Pearl Yellow is the way to go! If I ever drive one of these my life would have been a success.
This video is so beautiful...you can really feel and hear the passion in the voices of all the people that worked on the car. "Like going on a date that's going really well." "Like marrying off my daughter." THIS is what being a petrol-head is all about. This video defines a love for cars.
Wow, this should go down as an all-time great episode. Though the car never appealed to me personally, it is surely a legend. So much pride went into this car. Amazing.
A seriously impressive piece of journalism to capture the passion that these guys obviously have for the car. "I don't have a girlfriend... but probably feels much like being on a date that is going very well." Thanks MotorTrend
This was really beautiful. The passion these men have in their car-child is incredible. It really is inspiring to see videos like this. The human element hasn't left cars.. Yet.
The sound of that Yamaha engine tho. Dayum. 2017, but this is still hands down the best sounding production car ever. If only I could ever be blessed with the chance to drive one. That would be a life dream come true.
Beautiful, this car is a work of art. It's design was based on a sword, it was made to sound like a musical instrument and the guys who built it are really passionate about it. Not many big manufacturers build cars like this anymore, well done Lexus/Toyota.
Coming from a huge nissan gtr fan, well done Lexus. The LFA didn't go down in flames, they made their desired number. My personal favorite feature on the car is the screaming exhaust note.
Many people don't realize how amazing this car is. So many people focus on 0-60, 0-100, quarter mile, etc., but don't look at how the car actually drives on the road or track. Look at wikipedia's page on Nurburgring lap times. The LFA Nurburgring package has the 5th fastest lap time, beating out other supercars such as the Zonda, Enzo, Carrera GT, Koenigsegg CCX, Murcielago LP-640, McLaren SLR, list goes on. It is truly a magnificent car.
Colds he came back to the company fired all the designers. Went back to The drawing board and made the all new 2017 Lexus LC500. The SC400 predecessor. More affordable than the LFA with its tones down looks.
The lfa is a landmark achievement for Lexus and they will be talking about this great car in years to come like we still do about the nsx. Bravo Lexus on a masterpiece
I'm amazed how much heart went into the making of this car. I hope they give us more of this amazing technology and passion in the form of a successor or a completely different car.
People are unbelievable. This car is in its own way a piece of art. It's unique. Why bother posting you hate it or responding to those that do? Watch the video, admire the car, the engineers that put together and thank Toyota for funding this project and move on.
I completely agree, I love there cars & I'm starting to like culture as well. Just the amount of dedication, tears, & effort put into the making of the LFA, GTR & NSX is unreal
It will be sad to see it go, a master class and a master piece, it really does define what the Japanese flavour of making cars. They pioneer to make their own unique and innovative creations. Respect!
I bet when the last one came off the line they all gathered and respectfully bowed down with tears in their eyes... When you have such an emotionally involved team of specialist you are bound to have a collectors type of car.
For so long I thought as the Japanese as people who don't care for beauty over functionality. This video proved me wrong. These are people who are absolutely in love with this beautiful thing they have created
Truly a masterpiece even the Renaissance Era would be proud of. And thank you Yamaha for those pipes that make the V10 sound as good as any Ferrari or Lamborghini
I love the attitude to but heart and sole to something so special like LFA. The people that have worked on the car and their dedication comes alive in the video. MT hope you are going to do something similar videos in the future.
All of my friends at school bandwagon Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Buggatis. When I tell them I like a Lexus, they just stare and laugh at me, but I don't care. And in 20 years I would bid away my life just to get the chance to own or drive this.
Wow, great episode! one of my favorites. It had the perfect combination of everything I find interesting about cars. The whole process, the building, the ideology, the driving, and everything that goes into a car was shown in this video. To me that is, im not sure what everyone else thought. But I loved it and videos like this is what makes Motortrend the best channel/magazine in the world!!!!
The is 8 years old and still looks fresh and modern like the best exotic sports car of 2020. Simply the most desirable dream car because there is no equivalent regardless of price.
"What is it like to drive a LFA?" "I don't have a girlfriend...but it probably feels much like being on a date that is going very well." What an answer. That's the kind of feeling I want to get everytime I drive my favorite car. Great video Motor Trend. Keep them coming.
The passion the japanese people transmit to everyone about what they do, is unbelievable. I'm so inspirated by these culture, this lifestyle they preach and practice. Awesome!!
MT, you are getting somewhere. This episode was awesome! I think it really captures the feeling I have about this car. Its not the fastest, its not the loudest, its not the most expensive... But I think it has more identity that most of the supercars combined. If I had a million dollars sitting around I would own 3 of these before I'd even think about LaFerrari or McLaren P1!
I hope someone in Lexus would someday realize, LFA project is a success in the automotive industry and a great masterpiece that should have a successor.
Wow, this video puts things into a great perspective I've never seen before. I feel for those who worked on the LFA and how much they would miss that special oportunity they had.
This video gave me chills and goosebumps towards the end, VERY WELL done guys, this stuff is why is subscribed to Drive, and Chris Harris....love that guy.
They both sound similar and the Carrera GT is also one of my favorites. LFA sounds more alive and is more F1 like which makes it sound so good. I'm sure the LFA will be a classic in the future.
You know why everything is so emotional... it took Toyota 10 years to finally produce it and while they sell it at 400k each, they are still losing money. So it was really the experience and not money they were after.
There are more in cars than just stats... It is the whole philosophy behind it and the way that it was build that makes this car unique, just like a Pagani or a Koenigsegg! This is a statement on wheels, a moving piece of automotive art! Did you see that maschine knitting the A-pillar? These cars are hand build and refined to perfection, you can't measure all this attention to detail and love with 0-60 numbers... wtf, did I watch a different video than you guys? :P
You can see the huge passion in these guys.. chief doesn't have a gf but it would be a date going well... a father giving up his daughter to be married with a new man... it was like they were about to cry. This is the philosophy that makes a car maker great.
No worries, you guys have a great channel!!! You guys have pretty much covered alot of areas and my input i think is irrelevant, just keep doing what your doing!! Great job again!!
We cried the whole time we shot this. Made it really hard to film with all the tears and whatnot.
Still come back here after 3 years.. Thats how awesome this car is.
Vaas Montenegro Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition > 2018 NSX Type-R > GTR Nismo RS

Anyone else cry watching this...
Japanese automakers make the best cars like this, because they put their full life into creating each car.

Not to say Nissans and Subarus and Mitsubishis aren't great cars, they just lack something.

Great story. Lexus LFA is a masterpiece.
Good Bye Lexus LFA I Will Miss You
Just you. The music and just the general feeling of the video was extremely powerful IMO. One of the best MT videos ever
If Wishes Were Real I'll Wish The Lexus LFA Is Back In Production
So glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I genuinely think when a group of people pour everything into a car like this, its almost impossible to produce a successor. Thank you Lexus and Tanahashi san for producing such an incredible car. It's sound alone is unparalleled.
best sounding production car ever, and it looked great as well..shame about this.
+brian centi What shame? They intended to make less of them from the beginning.
best car ever made.
Omg the feels when he said he had no gf :'(
who needs a gf when ur job is to make supercars?
believe me bro i go through it every single time, i always get rejected but when i get to drive my dads car around town the joy and sense of pride overcomes my broken heart and i love it, thats why from now on i will invest both my time and money on cars.
cheers
Garrett Gonzales because he is married with children and grandchildren
But LFA's are his girlfriends (':
That's exactly the reaction we were hoping for!

Utterly brilliant.

Glad you enjoyed it!
This video literally put me in tears...
I adore the LFA, so much, now she's all gone... I hope I will lay eyes on one someday...
This video is so beautiful...you can really feel and hear the passion in the voices of all the people that worked on the car. "Like going on a date that's going really well." "Like marrying off my daughter." THIS is what being a petrol-head is all about. This video defines a love for cars.
is it weird that i almost shed a tear at the end of this video??
the takumis deserve a standing ovation
aw..he does not have a gf..well i want to trade my gf for a lfa.
W. "killed it"...
Lol
Wise decision sir
Lol I wouldn't but this is hilarious hahahaha
In wrist watch terms the LFA is the Grand Seiko to the Rolex ferrari and Omega for porsche haha Just a magnificent piece of engineering and art.
Wow, this should go down as an all-time great episode. Though the car never appealed to me personally, it is surely a legend. So much pride went into this car. Amazing.

Thanks MotorTrend
The most beautiful video MotorTrend has ever produced and probably will ever make. I hated the LFA before, now I'm in love with it
Hello MotorTrend, I am going through all of your videos and it is gold. I don't know why I am been wasting my time with anything else. Thank you.
i got the shakes watching this vid. great cars have one thing in common, craftsmanship. its so beautiful to watch such a car being built
This was really beautiful. The passion these men have in their car-child is incredible. It really is inspiring to see videos like this. The human element hasn't left cars.. Yet.

MotorTrend is great. You make me appreciate just about every car you present.

Kudos to the guys who made this car possible...
I'm amazed how much heart went into the making of this car. I hope they give us more of this amazing technology and passion in the form of a successor or a completely different car.
This will remain as my most favored car. It is sad to hear that the production on this work of art has ceased.
People are unbelievable. This car is in its own way a piece of art. It's unique. Why bother posting you hate it or responding to those that do? Watch the video, admire the car, the engineers that put together and thank Toyota for funding this project and move on.

Much appreciated!

I love the normal package in Blue, it's just looks beautiful especially if you park it on the side of a shore during sun set.
All of my friends at school bandwagon Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Buggatis. When I tell them I like a Lexus, they just stare and laugh at me, but I don't care. And in 20 years I would bid away my life just to get the chance to own or drive this.

I truly believe that the lexus LFA is one of the best engineered cars in my time by far. Down to the looks, performance and technology.

Very emotional towards the end, some people are very lucky to own one !
More than anything else, this car will be remembered for its exquisite sound long after it's gone.
I have to visit Japan one day! such passionate people
Pure poetry. Thank you. What a wonderful video!
For everyone that has a daughter has some idea of the true love they have for this epic machine.Superb Vid

the Best car ever made
Wow I love the passion and commitment put into these cars!!! That lasts line of the video & 6:08 made me tear up. Love the Nihonjins!!!
5:21 - That was beautifully said. Spot on in 1 sentence.
chills ran down my entire body during the ending.
One of the best cars to ever hit the road. Engineering genius
That exhaust noise is nothing short of beautiful
You know why everything is so emotional... it took Toyota 10 years to finally produce it and while they sell it at 400k each, they are still losing money. So it was really the experience and not money they were after.

I think the front end looks great. The FR-S/BRZ/GT86 headlights look like the LFA's, not the other way around.
You can see the huge passion in these guys.. chief doesn't have a gf but it would be a date going well... a father giving up his daughter to be married with a new man... it was like they were about to cry. This is the philosophy that makes a car maker great.
one of the best looking cars around, i hope they remake this beauty
