WARNING with the Lee APP press!

  • Side Note: I dont blame the press and yes, the operator has responsibility. I merely want to point out what could happen if you dont slow down, pay attention or reload while distracted.
Hoping this video saves someone in the future by getting the word out (even at my own expense). Live wad cutters can be tricky to find if you have a ton of brass to sort.

Maybe the video should be titled "PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL WHEN RELOADING ON ANY PRESS"
Happy to hear that you or anyone else was not hurt.

I’m not sure how this is a “major flaw” for Lee to address. Picking up range brass in one thing, I personally look at the brass before I clean them and after I wet tumble. At some point the operator needs to be aware of safety concerns

I agree. The operator has responsibility when using this press. I just wanted to point out what happened to me and hopefully save someone down the road.

This is not a flaw, this would potentially reduce stupid people who would accidentally throw loaded 38 SP wad cutters in with their empty brass without ever paying attention to anything before or during the process.

Over time, I've learned to just slow down till my brain can put the brakes on. I'm reloading...I'm already winning, I seldom go full speed at anything, so I can watch more carefully.

wasn't gonna comment on this video cause everyone who did comment hit the nail on the head already this was not equipment error this was definitely operator error ALWAYS INSPECT YOUR BRASS PRIOR TO RELOADING !! that loaded round should never have been there always inspect before any loading operations especially when picking up range brass it's good to alert people of a potential problem but this should never happen to anyone practicing proper reloading procedures !

  • @KarateSensei71

This is great advice for those that are challenged in life. Pay attention and do not put loaded rounds mixed in with your empty brass when you do not bother to inspect or pay attention to what you are doing while reloading. Other videos will cover how water jugs will also fit into your gas tank, super glue will fit in your eye, and aerosol Gorilla glue is not hair spray. Hard not to be a bit salty.... ;-)

If you watched the video, this is a tip for people who bring home brass from the range. No one is adding ready bullets to their decapping pile on purpose.

I’ve found shaking the colater as you pour brass in works every time. Pitching a hand full on top, and than starting to shake it will guarantee backwards brass every single time. Shake, and add whilst you are shaking. You will be set brother.

There is no way that hitting a live primer with a decapping pin would set it off. Don't believe me, take an empty case w a live primer and try it. It is one thing to make an assertion about an issue but one needs to actually try these things to make sure they are even possible. It takes a surprising amount of force to set a primer off.

I see the same thing that happens to me. Not the issue you had, but alignment of the cases as the mechanism positions the case so it can be de-primed. Mine will work great, and then suddenly for no reason I can tell, it will misalign a case- either leaving it short or pushing it past the center so the pin can knock the primer out. Gets frustrating sometimes, well actually a lot of times. I have a 3d printed case feeder that can serve up more cases than I can de-prime. Most of the time it's because I have a jam to clear. Not giving up though. It is still much faster than other methods of de-priming. Note: I mainly use it for de-priming 9mm and some 300AAC cases.
