No doubt about that... I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MOST OF THIS TRASH BEING PLAYED ON COUNTRY MUSIC STATIONS IS EVEN CONSIDERED TO BE COUNTRY MUSIC. MOST OF THIS TRASH BEING PLAYED ON COUNTRY MUSIC STATIONS IS ABOUT 2,000 MILES AWAY FROM REAL COUNTRY MUSIC.
I was at this concert “4th row center” with 3 other friends, we were just young kids in the Air Force at the time, I wish we could have appreciated it back then like I do Today!
It's actually the perfect opening song because you get to do a mix check on each of the performers!!! And Jimmy Webb himself is playing piano and singing one of his verses…..this is too cool!!!
All you 1 million people asking who is that man singing in the place of Johnny Cash: That man is Jimmy Webb, the writer of the song and he also performed the original version of the song ten years before The Highwaymen did it.

These great men will never die , but “ there is a very , very long line of highway men and women who will live in our hearts and minds forever, so don’t worry about these modern day country singers ? They will never replace the true highway men of yesteryear.👏
The singers did remarkable with back up sound systems off key. True professionals when they still make a classic sound wonderful! Missed Johnny but the guy who filled in for him did great.
The guy who filled in is the great Jimmy Webb you may remember him from other hits he wrote, Wichita Lineman, Galveston, MacArthur Park, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Up Up and Away and many more. The guy is a legend.
This is one of the best. OK, Johnny may not have been there physically, but man, he was really there every moment. And he was smiling that crooked grin of his to see all of us enjoying this. Jimmy Webb, thanks for the lyrics and for singing them!
Love you all!! I grew up listening to each one of you.. My Dad was a huge fan of Country Music.. we used to dance to your songs back in the day.. So fun to see and hear you Jimmy!! Cheers from British Columbia, Canada! This ones for you Dad.. Xo
Melanie Marshall ....just thankful to share this music!! A Midwesterner by birth but I like your area and lake superior. These musicians are passing but their music will remain!!!
On guitar is the guitar player from the original recording and one of the most recorded guitar players in history he has played on more hits in the 60's, 70's and 80's than I can name but I am sure he has played guitar on some of your favorites songs, the late great Reggie Young the contributions this man has made to modern music would be hard to put into words, an icon would be putting it mildly.
I'm glad you caught that too. Here's an abbreviated list - Elvis Presley, Joe Cocker, Dobie Gray, Joe Tex, Merrilee Rush, B.J. Thomas, John Prine, Dusty Springfield, Herbie Mann, J.J. Cale, Jimmy Buffett, Dionne Warwick, Roy Hamilton, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, the Box Tops, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard, Joey Tempest, George Strait, and The Highwaymen.
I'll be damned. Jimmy Webb is who the song "Killing me Softly" was written about. He wrote McArthurs Park among many other fine songs in the 70's. I wish since Cash wasn't around for this that they all sang his part together. TY Trip I had no clue Webb wrote this beautiful piece but I am not surprised at all considering some of the others he wrote.
Years ago I overheard someone complain that David Allan Coe was not in the Highwaymen. It's simple, the Super Group would never happened. Waylon, Johnny and Kris would never agreed to Come being in the Group. Those three avoided any contact with Coe.
I was totally shocked! I was scared for who was going to fill in for Johnny. Those are some wicked awesome shoes to try to fill for even 1 song. He did great though. :)
he did great though? are u kidding lmao. u don't alter a song unless you wrote the song or are the original singer of that song. it wasn't his part to destroy like that. but to each his own. if u liked it that's all that matters..i on the other hand hated it :(
Charlie Flowers Here's the thing, that is Jimmy Webb. He DID write that song and he WAS the original singer of that song. So according to you, he can destroy it any way he likes.
hahah ok he looks so young to have written that song. o well, I guess I didn't do my due diligence there did I? It seems I owe mr webb an apology. sorry mr. webb :(
No one like Willie and the boys wish they could have lived forever only Willie and Chris left god bless you all we will never see the likes of them again so enjoy
@@t23682 omg I didn’t even know he passed away! Sheesh I feel terrible for not knowing. He died on Sept 28th. Wow. He will be missed. Fantastic singer, Brilliant songwriter, and actor
Highwaymen Forever
Jimmy Webb...the writer of the Highwaymen...sang Cash's part , Fitting !!!!
Great composer ❤
it's sad country music isn't like this anymore

Good comment. Thanks!
Jimmy Webb was awesome, everyone knew it.
Thank you but do you know why johnny wasnt actually there?
but why did Johnny mot preform?
Jimmy Webb never was in The Highwaymen.
Pretty cool to see Jimmy Webb, the writer of Highwayman, appearing with The Highwaymen! Please keep these cool Waylon Farm Aid vids coming!

The amount of wear on Willie's guitar is very impressive!!! Awesome group of guys
A 4 year old can do the same damage.
Notice how the whole band turn to watch Jimmy Webb when he sings the final verse. A very special moment indeed.
Respect, man.
I'm happy to say I went to their concert in Brisbane around 1991 ? I think. What an ensemble of great people who just played and enjoyed it.
Saw them in dublin twice how lucky was I. Brilliant brilliant

Most people don't know that Jimmy Webb wrote this song in the early 70's and Glen
Campbell recorded it first and it is a fabulous version.

Sure they did!!!
That song has haunted me since I first heard it. It will be played at my funeral. Yes I will remain!

I wish I saw them in concert on 1992 at the age of 18 ❤
I love that there's still a fourth microphone despite Johnny's absence
Best version!
I can't imagine filling in for Johnny Cash, but that guy was great.
Yeah. You could tell he was trying real hard but knew he could not live up. He just did what he had to do.
I agree he wasn't as good performing the song but he didn't have to. That was Jimmy Webb the writer of the song
@@grimesjon1 I believe that he wrote the song....and there is a video of him alone...younger...and he sang it beautifully..

FionaM Hasler have to agree
This is my favorite contry song
Amazing how many times a sound man can't turn the mic up or even on knowing that is the most important part of your job as the band begins to sing.
theres something funny about how rinky dink the sound is despite this being such a major event
Yeah I watched a couple other live performances of this song with the boys. And every time Willie's mic isn't turned up till the 2nd or 3rd verse
Always good song
Kristofferson & Webb on the same stage. Have the common sense to be in awe .
