I think Alister lashed out on Rathet because he was annoyed by his questions he clerly didn't want to answer not because of PTSD, but because of shame, regret and guilt. He just met Ratchet, he didn't want him to judge him for beeing partially resposible for his father's death. And that was not the right moment to discuss it. But well, the milk spilled, kid got to the point and he had to confess everything. Ofcourse he became sad while remembering that time, anyone would get sad remembering his biggest faliour in life and death of friends, regardless if they have PTSD or not. He feels guilty and angry at himself. He made a horrible mistake and tried to fix it his whole life.
If anything he developped an obsession.
Alister was a general, he was used to giving orders AND PEOPLE FOLLOWING THEM so when Ratchet ignored his wishes to live him he lashed out. The goal of getting back in time was the most important it clouded his judgment, nothing else mattered and he was angry that Ratchet didn't see the same way and could sink the entire plan he worked so hard on for over 20 years. I am sure as you said that he develoed some mental problems throughtout theese years, due to guilt, isolation and obsession. But I would not count as heavily on a situationary reactions to tell us that...
I also believe that he risked his life as a way of saying: sh*t I made even bigger mess than the last time, i have to do EVERYTHNG I can to fix it. It was defenitally a sarcifice and not suicide.

I really love Alister. He was one of the best charaters the series had period. Ad his arc was fascinating and executed perfectly. He didn't overstay his welcome and made an impact in the R&C universe and their lifes. I would love some kind of a prequel-like level where we could see him again, young, maybe with Kaden or something. Or a comic! Dunno. Could be great. We can only wish.

I feel that I could forgive Alastair because he was trying to help his people but his mind was so clouded by his failures and mistakes that put too much pressure on him leading to bad decisions and even more mistakes, but in the end he saw that there was no way to fix his mistakes but there was one mistake he could still prevent, wich was the clock, his mind was finally clear and he new what had to be done.
A Crack In Time is my favorite of the Future saga, and my second favorite in the series right behind Up Your Arsenal. And a big reason why I like it so much is Alister. I love everything about him, from his story and sacrifice to little things like his design and voice. Yes, he made unforgivable mistakes and he was the true villain of the game, but by the end I was proud of him for admitting he was wrong, because sometimes that's the hardest thing for anyone to do.
Also regarding Clank and how he retained his memory of Ratchet being killed, I thought it was a simple case of "whoever activates the Clock remembers". XD;

Actually his soul is Naturally Immune to the effects of time travel while his Robotic body isn't That's why After Activating the Orvus Chamber he Started to rewind his Movements but could still remember All Prior events After all he IS a Zoni.

@@VtnVivi Seriously he isn't (Technically)a robot more like the robot body acts as a better Vessel for his soul than the mechanical bodies the other Zoni use....Which makes me question judging by the words used in Orvus's Final message to Clank the fact that he Referred to him as Clank as well and the fact that his body was not made to be susceptible to Sonic Weapons makes me wonder if Orvus Deliberately Sent Clank to Quartu so he would meet Ratchet and Fulfill His Destiny and save the universe?
I really like Alister as a character. He was so complex in the story and I couldn't really help but feel sorry for him after I found out what happened with Tachyon. He's also kind of the main reason I became a Ratchet & Clank fan in the first place. For a long time I never even payed attention to PlayStation games because I have a Wii U, but then I remembered hearing about A Crack in Time in a Guiness World Record Gaming Book and I looked it up and after seeing gameplay with the destructive weapons and emotional cutscenes with Alister in them, and BAM, I got hooked to this franchise. Alister is also the main reason A Crack in Time is my favorite game because he drove the story and him killing Ratchet was the biggest emotional twist I've seen and then he even became the final boss of the game. Then his death happened and I was pretty sad, but glad that he sacrificed himself to save the universe. Even after his death, I liked him more after seeing what effect his death had on Rathcet as it was shown in the comics. I hope in the future games, it shows the effects of his death like it showed in the comics because I wouldn't want that to be forgotten like how Angela was.

If they still ever make that Ratchet and Clank Movie sequel with him and Angela In It then I totally buy to watch that movie sequel. But still looking back to his backstroy and past, I still feel truly sorry for him though.
A movie sequel just seems out of the question just seeing how it bombed.

I’m seriously convinced that Ratchet was named after Alister, his dad’s best friend.
Alister was so consumed by grief and self hatred for 20 years that he didn’t want Ratchet to share a name with the traitor to the lombaxes, the man that unknowingly took his family from him through his own stubbornness and refusal to acknowledge Kaden’s fears.
All I can say is that Azimuth's story is sad. It's like a roller coaster in which you ride and are able to see what's about to come yet when the ups and downs come it still gets you and hits you like a truck. When he killed Ratchet I felt personally 100% betrayed and stabbed in the back, but I still would have wanted him to live than dying in the process of stabilizing the clock.

VIVI, it honestly blew my mind how at the end of crack of time that azimuth became the final boss of the game and not doctor nefarious. and that he is also the first major (anti)-villain to actually kill ratchet when no one else could. you know, before clank rewound back time. do you agree too?

Considering what Alister had gone through and had to endure for so long I did feel quite a lot of sympathy and empathy towards him to the point were I wish there could of been a way to help him through such troubled times and also save him so that he could at least of lived for Ratchet sake so that our hero could of had a father figure in his life.
So all in all Alister Azimuth is one of my favorite characters ever because of how he was able to bring so much emotion in me along with the time when the general told Ratchet that he had a family after Axiom City which got to me in quite a few ways.
And btw out of all of those bits of unused dialogue you mentioned, only one the about Ratchet's mom was unused as it's trigger was taken out of the game for some odd reason but for the other stories Alister will tell them if you hang around long enough in certain areas such as the training course on Torren IV, the start of the Odin Caves on Lumos, and at the very start of Vapedia so long as you don't move for the latter 2 planets and while I never done this myself there is a video about this on UA-cam that confirmed the stories I mentioned being said in-game.

Well, Alister Azimuth was a hidden true main and final antagonist of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time as a final boss because he was snapped and almost killed Ratchet for refusing using the Great Clock to go back in back to save the Lombaxes from Emperor Tachyon. But he doesn't understand about the Lombaxes are still out there in another dimension. After Alister's defeated, he finally realized that the Great Clock is not the time machine, and now he realized that he made a second huge mistake that he has done for his selfish reasons. And then Alister sacrificed himself to saved the Great Clock and the universe to redeem myself. I kinda dislike him for what he did for his selfish reasons, but now I liked him because he fixed his mistakes to redeem himself.

I think his life was so sad, I feel bad for him. Great character at all, I love his fighting style and his style in general. But the way his character is designed shows how good insomniac is in making games
I liked Azimuth up until he killed Ratchet at the end, even trying to kill him after Clank reverses time and saves Ratchet. I saw his arc ending with him arriving to help Ratchet beat Nefarious and then He and Ratchet live together, with Azimuth being Ratchet's father figure. But he chose his fate in the end, even fixing his mistake with the Great Clock and saving the universe. He's a tragic character to be sure, but his inclusion into Ratchet and Clank gave the series so much more depth then it had before.

I think it’s because azimuth wasn’t around ratchet’s birth and he didn’t know his birth name as he was councilman and continuing his duty as a lombax imperial guard but he was aware that kaden is becoming a father to his newborn son and he would’ve told azimuth about his new parenthood so it could explain why he didn’t call ratchet by his true name
I wonder why Kaden never told Azimuth Ratchet's real name.
3:15 he didn't knew, Kaden probably was gonna tell him, but never got the chance, for one thing, if me and my wife choose to tell our friends and family our childs name together, and not separately, we're going to do that, if that was the case, who can say Azimuth wasn't there at Ratchets birth, and Kaden probably was tell him later, in most cases that's true in real life.

If Clank told Ratchet that Azimuth shot him dead, it would've destroyed Ratchet's heart like a RYNO. I'm just hoping that Rachel (the female lombax) doesn't end up like Azimuth in the case of being an emotional boss.

very enjoyable video! alister is easily my favorite ratchet and clank character so far, mainly because he added a very mature and serious air to the otherwise goofy tradition of these games. The way he lashed out at Ratchet and behaved so emotionally/obsessed in some cutscenes really brought out the animator's hard work and understanding of body language, and I think the writer's talent shone through as well. I tend to enjoy things that get a very strong reaction out of me, and the part where he killed ratchet completely obliterated me because it was so unexpected and cruel, so of course I love him. Someone who is suicidal (I speak as someone who has been suicidal in the past) can often think of killing themselves for their own benefit, but in some cases, they'll also consider killing themselves if they just see themselves as a burden to everyone around them, so in their own minds they'll think they're committing a selfless act.
Ratchet couldve told sigmud to reverse time 6 minutes to tell him it wont work and he will die if he activates the clock

Most likely He was Buried on Fastoon and his Ship parked in the Court of Azimuth to honor his Memory and Ratchet Kept The Wrench and Pocket Watch to Remember Their Friendship Albeit Brief.

Some day Alister shouldn’t have been the final boss a crack in time. But u dude showed us all the reason why that was the case. He was so fixated about the clock being the solution to bring the lombaxes back, he wasn’t listening to Ratchet & Clank about using as a time machine would endangered the universe. He had to see it the clock collapsing in order o realize he made a mistake. I don’t hate Alister, he’s a great character in the future series. But his only flaw was wanting to correct a mistake for so long

A Crack In Time Was My First R&C Game On Ps3 And I Already Knew That General Azimuth Was The Final Boss

God. I forgot just how depressing these games are...
I'll be honest; was feeling nervous hearing you bring up some of these mental illnesses but as for my take on Alistair; he really does come off as sympathetic and relatable because all he really looks like to me is a man just haunted by the mistakes he's made in the past that costed him his entire race, including his oldest friend who's had nothing but regrets and after finding out about the clock whenever that might've been, he's since then been determined to bring the Lombaxes back no matter the cost which pretty much left him unconcerned with anything else regardless. It wasn't until he saw for himself at the end that the risk was just too great and then made a choice that actually benefited everyone, one final good deed that would probably have left him satisfied at the end.

Crack In Time had movie potential! However, the movie would've been hard to attract a new audience as they wouldn't know or feel connected to these characters.

Hey, @VTNVIVI? Can I tell you something? When I was watching Canadian Guy Eh's live stream video of Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (2013), he told us about Alister Azimuth as an unexpected final boss after he beat the game of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (2009) live stream during the live stream.
But I do agree with Canadian Guy Eh about Alister Azimuth.
Alister was obsessed for some certain reasons.
After Alister Azimuth pulled the lever of the Great Clock, the Great Clock was breaking apart, when a white light showed up when everything was started to crack to break, Alister sees the Lombaxes and Ratchet's father Kaden in the light, but Ratchet doesn't see the Lombaxes, only Alister sees them with his vision and his mind because he was gone crazy, delusional, hallucination, and lost his mind because he believed that he could going back to the past to Lombaxes, but Alister didn't understand and doesn't get it about the rule of the Great Clock.
Ratchet was an only one who understood about the rule of the Great Clock when he couldn't save Orvus from Dr. Nefarious, and then Clank told Alister that using the Great Clock will cause the space time continuum and the put the universe in jeopardy, and then Ratchet realized about that.
And then Ratchet was trying to tell Azimuth that he can't use it as a time machine, it only holds time; but Alister still doesn't get it and understand about the Great Clock; and then after the final boss fight, the Great Clock was breaking apart, Alister didn't see the Lombaxes in the past in bright light to wonder why it's not working, and then Ratchet just yelled out at Alister to finally tell him that the Great Clock is NOT the time machine, and then Alister finally realized that, and he made a second mistake that he has done, and then he used his wrench to jammed into the Great Clock and sacrificed himself to fixed the damage and his mistakes that he has done, and then he died.
Alister was started as a hero, and then he turned a villain for his selfish reason, and then last he turned good again to fixed his mistake to redeemed himself.
In other words, Kaden's ghost appearing? It's not like Alister's life flashed before his eyes before dying, his death was instant we have to remember that. Nonetheless, I like the idea of Kaden's ghost :)

I always thought Azmuth was saying sorry to Ratchet but its interesting to think that mabye he was actually saying that to the Lombaxes he failed to bring back. Nice job pointing that out.

but one other thing I love about a crack in time too, is that how there's one final boss after you complete the game besides the other two I mentioned, that alien green guy who you fought at the start of the game, but has more powers. that guy was honestly a walk in the past and shouldn't really have been considered a boss at all. you know what I mean VIVI?

Good video. I think you summed Alister up really good. He most likely had some mental problems after all what had happned. I think he is one of the best characters in the series with all his depth and back story and with all impact he left in the series and Ratchet and Clank themselves. Of course I don't accept all of his actions and decisions, but I can understand why he did what he did. I think living years and years alone and hunted by memories of your mistakes that cost the destruction of your own people and your best friend can be mentally killing. Of course he pounce what he thought would correct his mistakes. But putting the whole galaxy in jeopardy and killing someone else in the process is not the right thing to do. I'm glad Alister was able to see wrongs in his doings and even he might thought about seeing Kaden again in the after life in the end, he did made a sacrifice to save the whole galaxy not a suicide. After all, like Clank said, he was a true hero. It would be great to learn more about him, Kaden and all the other lombaxies.

My theory to why he did this was, if he went back and saved the Lumbaxes then things would have changed and Ratchet would technically not die.

I don't think Kaden is alive he saved his kit(ratchet) from being killed but Kaden nor ratchet's mother survived(she was killed in the house fire) because of tachyon

Azimuth is one of my favorite characters because of that fine line he walks. He’s sympathetic and I totally get his motives. But you KNOW he’s wrong and it’s the same flaws that get in his way every time. It’s, for lack of a better word, weirdly endearing. It makes him feel more grounded and more like a real person than many characters manage to achieve in my mind.
It’s weird, but I’m of two minds about the ending of Crack in Time. On the one hand, it was the perfect closing of Azimuth’s arc. It was candid and emotional; avoiding handing him a perfect happily ever after, and I would like to think he got some closure in his final moments. On the other hand, I have a soft spot for the guy. If I had the chance, I would FIND a way to bring him back. I would have him reconcile his mistakes and finally learn from them. I would let Azimuth live out the rest of his days happier and more at peace with himself!
Imagine seeing him in a later game just chilling on a porch in civilian clothing enjoying some iced tea! Dawww!

I can certainly understand why people would find Alister's behaviour baffling. He was told constantly that the Great Clock wasn't a time machine and there was a 99% chance it would just destroy everything, but he was surprised when that actually happened.
My guess is that he was so desperate to get closure and fix his mistake, that 1% chance was enough for him and no one would get on his way.
Also, I find it interesting how Alister uses the Great Clock's existence as a way to cope with everything. He didn't want to deal with the fact he failed his species and killed his best friend, so when he realized it could all be changed he held onto it to avoid confronting this fact, because what is the point of thinking about the past if it can be changed?
It's also why he kills Ratchet, on his mind, EVERYTHING will be fixed with the Great Clock. It's an excuse to not face the consequences of his actions.
But still having the will to kill Ratchet is messed up.

Clank: Sigmund, why aren't I affected by the altered time?
Sigmund: That's your Quantum Actuator at works. It grants Temporal Immunity to those who protect time.
He's more than aware. Clank is smart.
He doesn't want to remind Ratchet who went through depression because of what happened to Alister.
He doesn't want to open the wounds which will never truly heal.

I gotta be honest, I absolutely love it and I can't get over how good sonic looks. he just looks so cute now I think and I honestly can't believe they were serious with the original design with the first trailer back in April. that would've been a complete disaster I thought. but with the new trailer too, I've noticed it's not just the sonic redesign that's changed. it seems to be everything from the overall style, tone and comedy of the movie as well. what do you think overall?
The feel of the trailer has been changed for the better! Design absolutely! But, we still don't know how the movie's going to perform.

also when you complete the game and go back to the ending of the game before you fight both nefarious and azimuth, do you think it's weird how it gives you the option to fight both of them again? because in some ways it does seem pointless and would make more sense just to refight azimuth again. what do you think overall VIVI?
I guess the option is there just for that, some might prefer just exploring the area without interruptions.
I never thought about this until you brought it up. Do you think Alister forgot Ratchet's real name as a sign of a mild case of PTSD? Would Sly Cooper be dealing with PTSD at some point in his life?

I find him the most complex and amazing villains in the Ratchet and Clank universe. That includes Dr. Nefarious and Gleeman Vox. Yes I like Gleeman Vox as a villain in the Ratchet and Clank series

The Great Clock can't go back longer than 6 minutes. The exodus of the lombaxes happened over 20 years ago in-game.

but also, I really think the new kingdom hearts 3 remind DLC could release within the next month or so before Christmas, if the new update is anything to go by, with theatre mode and memory archives being moved to "special," it's possible that an option for the DLC will appear in that category once it's released. Also VIVI, with crash team racing nitro fuelled, don't you think it's weird how the track nina's nightmare was the only new Grand Prix track that was added before the actual Grand Prix started? So far? It's honestly kind of random when you think about it? Maybe they wanted people to get an idea of what it was like riding on it but why didn't they do it with all the other ones as well. You know why I mean?

Do i have empathy for him after what he did? Yes
But, he tried to kill Ratchet so many times, like an asshole, like a backstabber.

Honestly I did understand his character his pain and his morals of wat he was trying to do however vivi I want to add something too azimuth's tone changed from when we 1st met him to later on when hes rescued
In the beginning alister is very calm and very helpful to ratchet to find clank but most importantly when talking about the clock only thing he knew was they referred to the clock as "keeper of time" meaning alister had a feeling maybe there wasnt a way to travel back in time but unless by going to the clock himself and discovering wat was clank's purpose perhaps would clear everything up easily however during much further alister did have different thoughts (of time travel hoping clank if he had a special purpose in the clock would allow him to ask a favor to go back) but after alister had been saved and ratchet mentions he went back in time alister's tone had definitely changed when he is shocked to hear ratchet went back in time even asking "how far?" By then it gave him wat he wanted to hear that there was a way to go back in time (thing is he didn't know how ratchet did it at all) so by focusing his intentions of using the clock as a time machine (as u said he was stubborn theres a good reason y he was it's as I said earlier he heard ratchet going back in time by not how he did it) by leading the events up to the end and killing ratchet yes that's gonna be something on him forever on his conscious even if he was successful he would still feel that burden of killing ratchet but by realizing he was rong he then makes the sacrifice and thus ended him

Hey VIVI I really want to know, what is your honest opinion of the new uncharted movie that's supposed to release late next year 2020? I'm gonna be brutally honest with you, I think it's gonna be a downright disaster! They have been so many production delayed with about 10 directors leaving the project, with Travis knight who did the new bumblebee movie, which I quite liked despite not being a big fan of transformers, in the helm right now. But there really isn't a proper cast yet and hasn't even started filming. I really think it's just gonna be doomed to fail no matter how you look at it. Do you agree too?

This is due to Insomniac originally not intending Angela to be a Lombax kinda thing....it's complicated.

I actually agree with Allister but for a different reason. Ratchet and Clank are massive hypocrites in this game. Multiple times Clank gets Sigmund to create time portals (or whatever) to go back in time. Once to save Orvus and another to get a ship and to stop the attack by the agorians on a planet, (I forget the name of). So why can't Sigmund do that and possibly save the Lombax's? I dont think its ever explained

I think Alister became this obsessed on changin' the past and is that stubborn cause he bottled up a lot of guilt and trauma from seein' his family and species die and regrettin' the foolish decision he made, he wanna find the Great Clock to give himself and Ratchet the life they were meant to live but Ratchet had to wake him up and appreciate the great outcome on how their life turned out from a disastrous event, and he is the first official Lombax Ratchet met (I think they added Angela so she can match up as his love interest), but what do you think?
I do agree he bottled up a lot guilt and trauma thus affecting him mentally. Angela yeah I guess they wanted to make her look similar to Ratchet just because. IG had no intent on portraying her as a Lombax originally.
I know what you mean, it's that kind of thing that left a scar on him for life, he couldn't forgive himself for that, yeah IG must of wanted to have Angela look close to Ratchet without bein' too identical in species enough to make chemistry or somethin' man, very true.

I don't think so. May be she was during setting her concept but now definetely not. Since Insomniac used different color of fur instead of white and red, her tail is looks different and most of all Insomniac confirmed that Rivet is Ratchet's dimensional counterpart so if she is Alister's daughter, dimensional counterpart does not make sense at all.

Wrong. They may be extinct in the Polaris galaxy, but not the universe. The Lombaxes are in another dimension, they're not dead. There's always the chance they could return on their own.

Alister was going through a lot in his mind for those years, and a lot of people can relate to not forgiving themselves over a past mistake, my take away from this was to let go of the past and move on to your future, holding in all that guilt, anger, self delusions of grandeur can kill you quicker than a bullet to the head, our Hearts was not made to contain hate, or self hatred, did he hated himself? Probably so, and he let his own bitterness get the best of him, therefore, it became rooted in Azimuth, to point he couldn't think rationally, and was willing to do anything to get what he wanted, even using Ratchets parents to persuade, and trying to kill Ratchet, remember the comment he said to Ratchet in the final battle, about trying to stop him from saving his own kind, Azimuth: your own father, your own mother?!?!
Ratchet: but your willing to risk everyones in the process.
Azimuth: Your dog gon right i am, if your gonna try and stop me, your just gonna have to kill me!!!.
So in end Azimuth got himself killed, after realizing what he was hoping for was wrong all along, did he redeem himself? I say yes, and I did like his character, I just didn't like the way he went about everything, selfish goals, other than that, that's just my opinion, and Vi remember, Temporal immunity.
Whatever he was going through, I at least believe his mind was in the shadows. Thanks for sharing your take on this!
