Could you please start putting in proper descriptions again? I understand the needs with sponsors and such but I would like something about the article posted included too.
I don't know about schools in Great Britain, but in less than 100 years after this was written classic English and American literature has mostly been exterminated from woke American universities and many public schools. A true loss for our students today.
And today instead of literature we have entertainments filled with course language produced for the massess by the media. I fear we are now going backwards to a time of ignorance, division, greed and cruelty, so much for the progressive society.
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
Most everyone knows that both C.S. Lewis and his fellowship friend, J.R.R. Tolkien smoked pipes. Its doesnt change my admiration and interest in thier works. Just thought i would put that forword. Salutations.
English like German, over 150+ years ago was the language of commerce, science and journals, and other academic disciplines. Today, so far, is English . Tomorrow, another language will enter the stage .
Chinese isn't as well spread as people think. Iirc the multilingual countries that use it they tend to favour other non-native languages over Chinese if they also can speak them, also China is the biggest population of english as second language speakers so that also puts them on the submissive end of language trends@@RayW....
I would advise against using depictions of Lewis smoking, since that could be a cause of temptation for Christians overcoming addictions- Romans 14 advises against causing fellow Christians to stumble- just thought I’d leave this here! I hope you all have a great day!
smoking is not a sin, the same way drinking isn't. But you are so right either way, if someone was trying to overcome that with Jesus it would be wrong to tempt them. I love that verse. God bless.
It always amazes me to see that Mr. Lewis is still publishing wonderful essays even sixty years after his death. Thank you Jack!

1944. and is it worse now, or just the same?

languages aren't equal, sadly.
Anything but French again. Ideally Russian.
Doubtful. English evolves, and words are added, making it all inclusive soon. Chinese is the only other possibility

He was a Brit, and in those days they smoked and drank quite regularly. To censor him to modern tastes would be a disservice to the man he was.
English like all languages evolves resulting in new languages and dead ones as well….thats life
