      Mazda says the engine will run on RON 95 without problems, and they had in fact tuned the engine to accept as low as RON 91 or 92 for our market, but I would think that given the 14:1 compression ratio, there is bound to be some benefits with higher octane.

    I understand that in the US they don’t use the term RON( Research Octane Number) such as in Europe and Malaysia, but instead they simply use 91 octane fuel or 93 octane fuel.
    So if the owners manual states “minimum 91 octane” does that mean the engine is rated for RON 91 and upwards?

  • @1992vinod

    I am using honda civic 1.5 turbo . On ron 95 ,the fuel consumption is balance of power and performance. On Ron 97 , performance is up by 5 percent maybe(not so noticable) and waste of money .On Ron 100 , fuel saving is highest and performance is as normal too( i felt i maybe able to cover petrol price with the fuel saving ) ,however too much of smell comes at cold start . I havent try shell ron 99 performance because my tuner says shell losses its power due to imbalanced octane character since he has been custom tuning for a decade or so . Oh yeah,im stage 1 tuned @ 185hp and 285N.m

      Most mainstream engines have to be able to take RON 95 in order to satisfy the mass market. They may or may not be at their best with RON 95, but they should be able to run RON 95 without problems. In some markets, RON 95 is premium fuel!

    My car (and others too i suppose) is an old car, carb toyota corolla, and still, without advance retard, and i dont think cars can change compression ratio..why i(or we) can still feel the change in term of performance eventhough by a bit, when we pumped 97? Maybe 50/50 placebo effect and actual difference in driving
    I read someone commented that what we felt is because of 97 cleaning the carbon buildup, but that's 50/50 for me

    Ada keadaan nak benefit ron97
    I mostly felt during low-mid throttle conditions. And it is consistent on 2 of my old bmw.
    Technically, low volume charge (part throttle) needs very advanced ignition timing(low volume-slow flame propagation). Thus higher ron allows it and makes better power
    Except on general cars, like family's kenari, ron97 doesnt make any difference.
    I once wanted to try 1 month of ron95 on my old 36..intended to see how much saving i may benefit. Menyesal after the first fill up ha ha !

    I had drove 1.8 prius for more than 10yrs. I had tested RON95 vs 97 multiple time for years. Endup require to stick 97. Why?
    Carbon built of RON 95 lead to prone of error code lighted up. Pumped 97 again, O2 sensor error code dissappeared again.
    Newer engine doesn't significantly prove vast different but when engine start aging with high mileage, the petrol price difference is far cheaper than overhaul.

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  3 роки тому +1

      You are right on engine age having an effect on knocking. With mileage, the engine builds up carbon deposits on the cylinder wall, which has the effect of 'increasing' the compression in the combustion chamber thereby increasing the tendency to knock. What is the advised fuel stated in the manual.

      I can’t speak for cars, but for bikes, specifically the Yamaha R3; pumping 98 long term has caused more carbon deposits in the exhaust valves and in the manifold due to the engine being not able to burn the additives that gives the fuel a higher flash point and it generates less power as it doesn’t burns as cleanly. RON91 on the other hand (was in Aus) gave the most power with stock engine mapping, dyno proven
