The comment is 4 years old, but who cares. I noticed NL tends to read like one comment that says "X sucks" and then he just says "people say X sucks". In live streams its the same thing, a single person claims the stream is too loud or too quiet, and he listens to the one single person instead of hundreds telling him otherwise.
Dear NL, when using the mind control unit, try controlling the pilot so that they have a 0% dodge chance, and then they need to kill the controlled guy to actually start piloting the ship again. its the best way to use it unless your on the flag ship in which case, you should control a weapons person since nobody can get to them.
Heads up, I'm sure this is elsewhere in the comments, but it hasn't bubbled to the top. The Swarm Missile system only uses 1 missile even if you fire it when it has 3 charges, which is super awesome. It's great for getting past defense drones to take out shields and not terrible expensive.
Heads up #2, if you kill all of the crew on the flag ship an AI takes over and starts auto repairing systems. Better to leave them at that one sucker trapped in his turret. :D
Hmm, Kestrel's weakness is no ability to deal with missiles. Better use cloaking on A FUCKING TRIPLE LASER. I tend not to be a backseat gamer, but seriously Ryan, you dealt with this boss fight just dreadfully. Also, the game warns you about power surges for a reason. Cloaking is way too precious to waste on every fart from the boss.
So much agreed. Every time NL used a cloak on a laser rather than like, system surge or drones or most frustrating MISSLES I yelled at the screen. NL most definitely could have won otherwise.
That and stuff like needlessly draining oxygen in a a room where his dude was standing to eventually kill him because he wasn't paying attention. I feel like the only thing stopping him from winning at this point is his tendency to rush and not micromanage what he is doing.
Mimwing Agreed, If NL paused a bit more and thought things out he would have been able to notice some of these details. If only there were a way to yell at him in the videos.
Mimwing Agreed to above stuff. I like how he refused to send the 100% pilot to get the med bay running and sent like 4 men to their death fixing it instead :D
Nice run Ryan, almost there! Some suggestions based on this run: - Make sure you keep the last enemy crew member on the boss ship alive, otherwise the ship goes to "automated" mode. - Try to give priority to dodging missiles with the cloak, letting the laser get absorbed by shields as much as possible. - I highly recommend getting experience with using a boarding party, it can help you take out the boss's front cannons much easier. Just don't forget to teleport them back, it can be a devastating mistake if they end up left behind. - If you have spare scrap you don't know what to do with, try to use it for padding, buy extra slots for pilot, medbay and oxygen so they can handle more damage. I hope that helps.
You can't actually defeat the Flagship by killing the crew, unfortunately. If you do, the ship's AI takes over and starts repaiting all of the systems simultaneously. It's best just to leave one crew member alive (preferably in the least dangerous weapon room).
An Actual Dinosaur I believe it only happens on the flagship, when all enemies are dead it will repair all systems at a slow ish speed but since it's across all systems, it becomes a pain quickly
2 serious misplays on 3rd stage: 1: You could have tanked the 3 shots from their laser, and used cloak in the power surge -no damage gained 2: Swarm on missles. They had no crew on it, so 2 damage to it would've been it for their missles -no damage from missles If you just did this you would have took borderline 0 damage, Well played anyway, I really enjoyed the episode :))
Like many before me have said. The missiles is 60% of the boss' offense. One missile on the wrong room and you could be done for. It escalates really fast if you have bad luck with the missiles so always take them out first.
NL why on earth would you not prioritize killing the missile launcher on the rebel flagship? It's clearly the one weapon they have that will cause the most damage. Prioritizing disabling their cloaking makes no sense at all they will have it fixed before you even get another shot off. Also stop cloaking randomly for no reason, or wasting it on the laser. They won't fire at you while you're cloaked. You should only be cloaking when he fires the missiles because the lasers won't make it through the shields, and on phase 3 only cloak when he does the power surge attack.
Yeah, notice how he rarely ever mentions it. Even after he gets ravaged by it, he says something like, "Oh no! What just happened?! This such bullshit! My cloak was on cool down!" Meanwhile, he exhausts the cloak on the lasers and ions
Can someone please tell NL that when you hack the shields, you need to wait for the hacking module to deplete the shields. Hacking shields and immediately after shooting at the shields is just a waste of a hack.
Especially when Hacking bugs out and doesn't work on the shields. I never bother trying to hack shields anymore, it almost never works right for me. I've gotten a lot more mileage out of hacking weapons, hacking, mind control or cloaking.
Advanced Edition *is* new, however. So technically, *everybody* is new. And Hacking is new to Advanced Edition, which means there's no reason to expect him to know exactly how it works yet.
You're a little mad about that aren't you? While he has played FTL in a series, there's no real confirmation that he was hardcore about it, looking at his current progress and his previous lets play. He might have what, beaten the game twice or so from what I remember? In a rouge like, that's nothing. Specially in a rouge like that's extremely RNG based like FTL where you may never get specifix quests and therefore ships until even after 100 hours in. Also, that last statement is irrelevant. You're scapegoating with specific vocabulary to try and not look like a tool yelling at someone for not knowing how a certian feature works in a game that's RNG based.
NL, it's important to put points in systems you need to not go down, like oxygen. By putting extra points in them, you can ensure that a stray missile won't take out your entire crew due to a lack of oxygen or something like that.
NL Please don't stop these videos anytime soon. I don't care if you put an AD every 20 minutes, it'd be worth it to see this game. its brilliant stuff, and regardless of if you can beat it or not I enjoy watching you strategize.
NL, I have to say this is one of my favorite series on your channel. You might not be the best, but you are learning, which is excellent. Here's a couple tips that might help: Save your cloaking for their super weapons or their missiles, those are the 2 that will manage to get through your shields. Also, don't be afraid to to manually put fires out in key rooms (like your weapons/shields).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the way you're supposed to use hacking on shields is to wait until all the shield bars have been broken. Then, as the enemy ship tries to regenerate the shields, you can hack them to prevent the shields from regenerating, giving you an increased amount of time to go all out with weaponry.
The shield hacking was bugged in the initial release and it it got a "possible fix" with the update on the 10th. It should have removed some(all at max level I think) shields one at a time. And sure you can use the hacking for keeping the shields down, but it should have worked the way NL used it as well.
You really need a crew teleporter or a bomb to take out that the mothership weapon systems. Go for missile, laser, ion, then beam. As soon as their missile goes out, the fight is 50% won.
Also I would like to point out how awesome this series is so far and that I am thoroughly entertained and enjoy every episode. High level FTL play is something that is earned through practice and experience, sort of like playing an instrument. Watching you get better and grow in this game is amazing and I hope it won't stop. As long as there is a like button to press, for you, it will be.
The Flagship fight was quite mis-managed Quick Tips: Only cloak for the triple missile weapon (2nd from right weapon bay) because your shields will handle the rest. You took a lot of avoidable missile damage. (Mind controlling that bay to get the human to destroy the weapon is also an option) Only use missiles when you need to bypass shields. Once they are down, go with beams over missiles as they can't miss. When hacking, wait until all shields have gone down. Only then fire your lasers/beams (otherwise you hit their shields for no reason) and pause to coordinate attacks. Finally lv.4 shields highly recommended for late game. Keep up the good work NL!!
Good tips. I actually find myself go more evade over a 4th shield most of the time. Getting 4 shields is totally viable if you have a lot of scrap though.
NL, one thing about the flagship. Never, ever, and I mean ever, kill all of its crew. When that happens, a much more aggressive AI takes over, which also repairs the ship much better than the crew. Once strategy that most people use is to do what you did by chance. Kill all but one of the crew in one of the weapons, mainly the weapon that's not the missile launcher. That way, the one crew can't go to the main part of the ship to fix anything, and the AI doesn't take over. Besides, if it's the weapon that isn't missiles, they can't hurt you as long as you take the missiles out and have three shields or more.
Some notes: 1) TAKE OUT THE MISSILE ROOM YOU DING DONG! 2) CLOAK THE SUPER WEAPON YOU DONGLE HOPPER! 3) Killing the crew doesn't make you win but it does make the 3rd phase easier. 4) Hacking shields drains them it doesn't turn them off instantly. Don't fire until the purple circles are empty.
Once you get to the 3rd phase of the fight, don't waste your cloaking on their laser, they shoot three times and you have 3 shields. Instead wait for their missiles, the things that actually kill you every time.
I swear, I'll never get tired of these Linkin Park references. It's hilarious because they're inserted into the conversation so smoothly and flawlessly. I applaud you, my good sir.
These episodes keep getting better, nice one. I personally put people in the door rooms if I'm getting invaded, but that's just because I like to promote synergy around the ship and increase profits.
NL killing the crew on the flagship don't take out the ship, it puts it on autopilot, ut would be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too easy if taking out the crew made you win.
NL, in the final fight you need to keep your cloaking for the power surges. You need to get your ship to a status where you can survive their weapons and use your cloking against the surges. This is the only way I was able to beat the flagship.
its good you didnt kill the crew. when you do the ship urn into an AI. repairing all rooms in a burst. nl, its very importent that you'll disable the missiles. the weapon to the right of the cockpit. they tear you to shreds. kill the crew member there and make it red. it will make your life alot easier. also hacking might seem really good but in the flag ship a crew teleporter helps alot because you can disable all the weapons and they cant repair then because the crew there are killed.
Always get the teleporter, it's better than the hacking against the rebel flagship. The missiles are second from the right, if you insist on using hack, hack that right before it fires. At the last fight I kept shouting "You moron KILL THE MISSILES!!!" because then you just have to dodge the super weapon with the stealth. Also, NEVER kill all crew!! It turns into a drone and then it auto heals EVERYTHING REALLY FAST.
This was an amazing episode. Probably the best you've done :P Also, the rebel flagship has an autopilot system. So even taking out all of its crew members it can go into autopilot and still work. However nothing can be repaired when in auto pilot :3 You got unlucky man! Keep up the good work. I love this series. Great fun watching you play the game c:
Keep it up NL, I had to do so many runs just to beat this game a single time. I didn't see this tip in the comments: By the end-game with nothing critical to spend scrap on, upgrading your ship beyond what you can actually power is a great idea because it gives you extra durability on those systems _and_ gives you the option of supercharging those systems for a brief time when needed. Entering Sector 8 gives you repairs and a bunch of fuel, so you can afford to spend even more scrap on luxury upgrades than you might think.
its actually not a positive to kill every crewmember on the flag ship because it will start auto-repairing when everyone is dead. the ideal strategy is to kill everyone but one person, then damage each individual weapon system starting with the 3 missile launcher. (the people left alive cant repair them because they cant enter the room)
Ok. Just to make it clear. Rebel Flasgship weapons (From left to right): Ion (3 Shots), Heavy Lasers (3 shot), Missiles (3 Shot, 1 Damage Each), Beam (2 Damage). Each weapon sistem has 3 health. Good luck next time NL :D
hey NL, for this flagships first phase, i would've recommended this: Mind Control their pilot. Fire your Burst Laser II and the Ion Stunner simultaniously at their shields, then fire the halberd beam to take cloaking down. Hack their missile launcher (Middle Right Weapon). Cloak whenever it actually gets to fire. With your setup you can stall out their missile launcher literally forever.
Hey NL, this was the most entertaning video up to date... few tips... I think you could have tried the chain laser combination if you pumped weapons 2 more bars.. a zoltan crew member could have helped you gain one extra power.. the swarm missles are more effective when you take away their dodge chance.. I notice that generally I haven't seen all 3 hit in most cases... also... ..Also if you have extra scrap you should still upgrade oxygen and medbay... plus I think your style of play, you would benefit from the cloning bay much more than the med bay since it takes away the need to micro your units for healing since there's passive healing of 25 hp every jump you make. You really need to prioritize the missles..if you take out the guy in the missle room it becomes easier to take out the missles in phase 2 and 3. unless you're on hard difficulty but we're not there yet, but here's to dreaming =)
You're improving appreciably with every run, NL. The Rebel Flagship might feel like an impossible mountain of bullshit right now, it becomes much easier once you have a firm grasp of the game's mechanics. If you can swallow your frustration/disappointment until then, you'll have overcome the hardest part of FTL.
@Northernlion hey, a tip. when you hack shields, it doesnt take them down, it prevents them from coming back up, so its best to fire lasers at the shields until they are down, and hack before the first bar of shields come back online to keep the shields down for the duration of the hack.
Hello NL, been eagerly wathing you stuff on ftl and ive had to mention couple of pointers: First of all, flagship. Youn dont need lvl 3 cloak for most of it, lvl 1 for the first phases missiles and 3rds superweapon. And then on second phase lvl 3 when drone power surge come. Also disabiling that missile room is with boarding crew is a HUGe guarantee for success since then the guy in the room is dead, wont be able to fire missiles faster and on 2nd and 3rd phase can be disable with boarders very fast. The flagship will turn to AI if you kill all the crew so what do you do? Well you let that guy on the laser (first room on the left) to live :D He can repair anything sicne he is stuck there. NEVER EVER leave your ship uncloaked when that super weapon fires, ever. Save energy from mind control and hacking and cloak when you dont use em or use em as much ;) Also lv4 shields are kinda important. And if you feel frustrate, pause the game and dont jsut rush 1 thing after it, focus and stop and think... i am sure msot people dont get bored if you stop and think for 20 seconds :D
NL, when you encounter the flagship your main priority should be to take out their missile launcher and the person manning it - use your cloak to avoid taking missile damage while you take it out. Also, with your excess scrap you could buy weapon bars, engine bars, or shield bars even though you cannot power them. The extra bars will act as a damage buffer, so you can take a few hits without it affecting your performance.
NL, go after the missiles system first on the mothership. Most of the damage you took came from that and you had 3 shields to take care of the 3 lasers it has normally and cloaking to take care of the burst
You're getting better NL but this may not be obvious but on easy, the rebel flag ships weapon systems are all separated from the rest of the ship, meaning once you kill the crew member inside and destroy the system, it can't be repaired. From left to right, the weapons are Triple Ion , Triple Heavy Laser, Triple Leto Missile, and a 2 damage Beam weapon. The phase 1 are the missile launcher and the ion, I prefer to use crew teleporter to kill the missile launcher first, then the ion second, then fight how I see fit. System gets repaired between phases, dead crew remain dead Don't kill all the crew or the advanced repair AI takes over Also, don't cloak the heavy laser, cloak either missiles or the power surge
Alright, so you're main mistake in this was that you cloaked during the wrong point in the third phase. The third phases fires an awful lot of shots at once (during energy surges) so when all those shots come out, THEN you should cloak. Instead, you avoided the first three shots and ended up taking damage in some very important systems (cloaking). Once you're down, its very hard to get back up, and thus ended your run.
Heya NL. Try this. It usually works for me on easy and i beat the flagship even when i dont expect it. Get cloak, mind control, hacking and a flak gun(either one works) Faze 1: hack engines - mind control the missiles guy(on the right of the pilot) - cloak the first missile barrage - go for the shields with your weapons while the engines are hacked Faze 2: hack engines - mind control the laser guy (on the left of the pilot) -- go for the missile room then/ drones and shields while the engines are hacked, and your flak takes out the shields Faze 3: hack engines - save your mind control to heal your own crew from their mind control- use flak to take out the shields while the engines are hacked, and hit the missile and laser room. Laugh in their face.
-why did you stop using your stop using your cloaking as a weapon preignator?? you start a fight and cloak right away, then LATER you use it to dodge missile. The time you were cloaked, his weapon don't charge. them you have full charge, he's still at 0 and by the time his weapon are charged you already had time to do plenty of dmg to his ship and your cloaking is almost back up -his missile weap is his first on the right -70 missile and 25 drone part is simply useless. you would have needed around 25 and 10 with your curent build MAX. Don't forget that repair station alwais give you a ton and also usualy get some after defeating any of his phase. -It would have saved you enough money to buy med 3 and air system 3 non powered so you could have powered them when needed. Also not sure if you had it but you really want max door, make the fire created by all those missile shot at you move slower around your ship - would also saved you enough money to get full crew at the store, might sound useless but you use your extra personel to repair faster, fight intruder and replace possible casuality - ALSO!! good luck next try ;) love your video!
Makes you wonder when he's going to work on getting a Cloning Bay. It saves so many lives when it's working, and the back-up storage banks for them makes so that the crew is immortal. Just make sure you have a source of repair, though, or else you'll have a bad time.
NL, 2 QUICK TIPS VS THE FLAGSHIP: 1# Go for the missile laucher first, its the first one the the left of the cockpit 2# FFS, USE CLOAK When the POWER SURGE is comming.
NL: Try to spend all of your scrap on system upgrades right before the rebel flagship fight. Even if you don't have the reactor power for everything, having a "buffer" for damage on any system helps a great deal. For example, your 3rd level oxygen system takes 2 damage. A 1st or 2nd oxygen would've been destroyed, but because of its high level it can tank that damage and you don't have to worry about oxygen levels for the time being. Edit: Finished the episode. You were so close this time. :o Each one of these episodes is an unsuspecting thriller-fest.
NL two things 1. The weapon pre-igniter is bad with charge/swarm weapons because it only gives it one charge. 2. The swarm missile only uses 1 missile no matter how many charges it has.
+coliedug Gaming umm yes it does, also NL should have swarm missled the missle launcher, and managed his cloaking better and he should really freaking stop breaking his cloaking early... no wonder this series ended... did no one at all help him to get better? I suck shit at FTL, and NL makes me look like a God at the game lol
Since NL started playing ftl again, ive beaten the game quite a few times (just bought it on apr 2nd) and i noticed (at least on easy) that is very viable to throw all your eggs into one basket for a short time instead of trying to be diverse, because if you try to do all the things, everything will be mediocre at best and not really strong. today i beat the game with type a zoltan with barely any shields, but put all my focus into maxing out dodge chance at first then the scrap just came rolling in because nothing could stop me. so then the weapons just fell into my lap and it snowballed out of control like a bisnap isaac run. i was so powerful by the flagship i killed all three phases quicker than a normal enemy ship. also pro tip for beam weapons: start at the very edge of rooms and hit as many rooms as possible, and be sure to start at the shields with halbert and galive(?) beam, because every additional room hit after sheilds are down if youre using it to penetrate shields does more damage!
Well you did unlock the one ship through that quest. Full power clone bay, crew member back in 10 seconds. Great for a boarding party type strat. And always get the Zoltan crew when you can, you didn't buy the one, thats free power! Other fun things to do. Stun shield room and use a fire weapon to burn their crew alive when they try and repair it.
gotta love all the backseat gaming going on here, as if everyone's a savant at this game that never makes mistakes :-$ (or never MADE mistakes when they were still learning...) NL's doin just fine, but I think he should step the difficulty back up to Normal soon; the final fight isn't all that different between difficulties imo, but the journey's rougher
NL, I can't suggest enough getting a teleported with a rock or mantis crew member, more so than mind control. You can put them in the missile room of the flagship and just wreck it every time. And for the third flagship fight, never cloak until that super weapon power surge comes in.
Awww man, that was really close. Really good try NL! Don't be ashamed (you said it was pathetic) to be on Easy. I'm the only person I know who can beat it on Easy mode >_> That games effin hard, and I can't even beat Normal so I can't even say I'm good! In my opinion you did really well here. Also my opinion: Mind control isn't really that great the way you were using it. You probably could have devoted resources to something better... But that's an opinion rather than a criticism.
NL Always take out the missiles on the flag ship, it repairs every iteration of the flagship, but if you take it out then you only have to deal with laser weapons that have to penetrate your shields first.
Awww man so close. I wanted you to win so badly. You probably know by now, but if you save your cloaking ONLY for the power surge and focus on disabling the missile weapon for that last phase you can remain safe and then take that thing down at you leisure. Oh and of course be sure to leave one crew alive, so the ship doesn't auto-repair (usually the guy in the laser weapon room).
NL, the ion bomb is excellent and very cheap, power-wise. You can take down the flagship's 4 shields with each hit. It's a key weapon to succeed. Good series!
I've only played this game on normal so far, beat it once. Pretty much because I got an early weapon pre-igniter, and near the end I managed to get I think it was called the glaive beam? 3 damage per room hit, and I had two burst laser MK II's. Flag ship's phases down in about 2 salvo's each.
You my good man, had me laughing hard on that last part, talking while playing must really take your concentration off, but you are getting there. great series by the way
I love your commenting style and I love your videos, so please read this with a loving voice in your head! I've watched all of your Advanced Edition videos so far, and since it does appear you read the comments, I'd just like to say something that I cannot believe no one else has said yet: The only part you keep failing is the Rebel Flagship. The reason you keep losing to it is that you keep forgetting something very important about missiles: they go through shields. In this video, in the 3rd stage in particular but all stages in general you CONSTANTLY used your cloak for the 3 laser shots instead of the missiles. This killed me inside every time you did that since your 3 shields can easily tank the 3 laser shots, but missiles go THROUGH shields. The only thing that saves you from missiles is dodge (i.e. engine upgrades and cloaking). Ignore everyone else telling you why you lost-- this is the number one reason you are losing these fights. You build your ships well, you've usually got plenty of crew, but you keep getting hit by missiles. Because this seems to be your weakness, I recommend you take out their triple missile launcher before you do ANYTHING else for every fight against the Rebel Flagship. If you take those out, there is little else you have to worry about; everything else can be soaked up by your shields or can be evaded with cloak. And I mean this: take out their triple missile launcher (the 3rd weapon bay from the right) before you take out their shields. Taking out their shields is important, but you can kill them after you've neutered their damage. This fight in particular can be reviewed to see what I mean. If you had just Swarmed their triple missile launcher (probably a Swarmer of their own?), you could easily then (assuming the guy inside that weapons bay is dead) take your time, Swarm their shields, then destroy the ship. Rinse and repeat. :)
Buys cloak to dodge missiles. Uses cloak to dodge laser volleys, allowing the slower-firing missile launcher to fire in volleys of missiles for massive damage.
Just finished a normal run of Captains edition in an engie A. Was good times. NL on the other hand with cloaking you're supposed to cloak the power surges for each phase. Power surges are bad. Watch for drone swarms and laser arrays and then cloak as soon a you see them.
nl instead of hacking shields you should hack the piloting system if you have missiles. you can garentee your shot will land which is way more benificial
Don't upgrade/power the cloaking more than the first bar, the only thing that it does is delay the cool down. ONLY USE IT WHEN THERE ARE INCOMING MISSILES. The best way to deal with the missiles is the teleport bay. Even if you spend the 90 scrap to get it and only use it on the flagship IT IS WORTH IT. FTL is about Prioritizing. Make the flagship's missiles your priority and you will win.
if you took out all crew then it will turn automated and mad hard take out most of their crew use a teleporter and mind control you can bring their crew over on your ship
lionThrow He knows that very well, but for some reason he thought that in order to hurt a crewmember that is in the room, you need to have the laser physically hit the person as opposed to the room (WHICH IS DEAD WRONG NL) and thats why he started putting the lasers in the center of the room.
I wanted him to pick up on the strat of using the beginning of the beam attack on shields, and then the rest of the beam hits other rooms harder all on the same swipe.
the one good thing is that it will automatically repair systems, so you can have a boarding party repeatedly kill the same systems to eventually destroy the ship.... or you can fill the ship with fire and be the most satisfied you have ever been playing FTL >:D
Man... forget the shields on the flagship. Mind control the pilot, power your way through the shields and take out their lasers and missiles first. Then do whatever you want because they won't be able to hurt you. At least you're starting to save your scrap for shops rather than just blowing it instantly to upgrade your systems. One day you'll get there. One day.
the third weapon from the left is the missile and that's what you should mind control. Also, your scanner guy should have been on repair duty during the final fight as the third level of scanning wasn't happening, you didn't use him at all...
Weapon preignitor, only load one shot for charge weapons, like the swarm, charge laser, charge ion. So it's beast for single long charge weapons like beam weapons
WHY!? why didn't you RUN AWAY!? as soon as all the fires and damages started to get out of hand you could have jumped out and repaired stuff Before jumping in again
A very good game, LionRyan!!you defeat the flagship at third stage, a great progresssssss, just keep going and the victory will be next time!!! love your gameplay man!!
*Drains the oxygen from the not-on-fire shield room with a crew member in it*
"Why are you dying!?"
STOP AVOIDING THERE LASEZRS WHEN YOU HAVE 3 SHIELDS TO TANK THEM AND FOCUS ON THE GOD DAMNED MISSILES !
NL, if you don't take out missiles, you're gonna have a bad time.
I want to know who these alleged people are, saying that the Kestrel sucks when it's one of the most balanced ships in all three types.
In my opinion it's the most boring. I prefer the specialized ships myself.
I love the Nassio (The one w/ Stealth) I got lucky and got it on my first ever play-through of the game
Warrior.of.katz
Its Type B layout is probably my favorite in the game =3
I agree, I like the Kestrel. A lot.
Probably because it was my first love with FTL, and the ship earning my first win.
Doge* chance.
even if they have auto pilot, it is still a significant reduction of their doge chance, making it better then mind controlling anyone else.
Mimwing
Agreed, If NL paused a bit more and thought things out he would have been able to notice some of these details. If only there were a way to yell at him in the videos.
Mimwing Agreed to above stuff. I like how he refused to send the 100% pilot to get the med bay running and sent like 4 men to their death fixing it instead :D
Nice run Ryan, almost there!
Some suggestions based on this run:
- Make sure you keep the last enemy crew member on the boss ship alive, otherwise the ship goes to "automated" mode.
The AI repairs systems? Wow, if it does it's veeeeeeeery slow, 'cause I never noticed that. So it shouldn't matter much.
An Actual Dinosaur
I believe it only happens on the flagship, when all enemies are dead it will repair all systems at a slow ish speed but since it's across all systems, it becomes a pain quickly
yeah, kill everybody but the laser guy.
the laser guy sucks. always.
it only repairs sistems with no breaches on, and considering he was using a missile launcher with a medium breach chance, it wouldn't be too tough
An Actual Dinosaur the AI repair is like a mantis repair
2 serious misplays on 3rd stage:
1: You could have tanked the 3 shots from their laser, and used cloak in the power surge -no damage gained
2: Swarm on missles. They had no crew on it, so 2 damage to it would've been it for their missles -no damage from missles
If you just did this you would have took borderline 0 damage,
Well played anyway, I really enjoyed the episode :))
He didn't even recognize the missle launcher.
Yeah, notice how he rarely ever mentions it. Even after he gets ravaged by it, he says something like, "Oh no! What just happened?! This such bullshit! My cloak was on cool down!"
Meanwhile, he exhausts the cloak on the lasers and ions
Mugsi Note that after 10 videos, he starts recognizing them.
Haha, I'll take your word for it. I only started watching these recently.
You got my "like" for the "one step closer (and I'm about to break)" line. HIGHlarious.
***** Yeah, he's not new to FTL. Thanks for playing, you lost. Bye.
Advanced Edition *is* new, however. So technically, *everybody* is new. And Hacking is new to Advanced Edition, which means there's no reason to expect him to know exactly how it works yet.
Joshua Rutterbush If we're going all technical, Xzavier specifically said "new to a game". The game is FTL. AE is content, not a game.
"Fire is temporary, glory is eternal."
Truly words of wisdom.
NL You anger me so much!
Why do you cloak from 3 laser shots when you have 3 shield levels? Cloak from the missles!!
Ii don't try any more I just sit back watch and facepalm
TheAlphaMinion
Lmao
TheAlphaMinion hi from the future
Also I would like to point out how awesome this series is so far and that I am thoroughly entertained and enjoy every episode. High level FTL play is something that is earned through practice and experience, sort of like playing an instrument. Watching you get better and grow in this game is amazing and I hope it won't stop. As long as there is a like button to press, for you, it will be.
The Flagship fight was quite mis-managed
Quick Tips:
Only cloak for the triple missile weapon (2nd from right weapon bay) because your shields will handle the rest. You took a lot of avoidable missile damage. (Mind controlling that bay to get the human to destroy the weapon is also an option)
Only use missiles when you need to bypass shields.
Lukas Lundholm Yeah that's good to, especially if you don't pick up cloaking
NL, one thing about the flagship. Never, ever, and I mean ever, kill all of its crew. When that happens, a much more aggressive AI takes over, which also repairs the ship much better than the crew. Once strategy that most people use is to do what you did by chance. Kill all but one of the crew in one of the weapons, mainly the weapon that's not the missile launcher. That way, the one crew can't go to the main part of the ship to fix anything, and the AI doesn't take over. Besides, if it's the weapon that isn't missiles, they can't hurt you as long as you take the missiles out and have three shields or more.
Some notes:
1) TAKE OUT THE MISSILE ROOM YOU DING DONG!
That was still a blast to watch. Good job man.
You seem a bit angry, 3 comments in 15 minutes. It's just a youtube video, chief. Cool your jets.
Doesn't it stop them repairing systems though?
VagueFatality1
No only one of my comments was angry, the other I was giving advice or info on how to take the flagship.
i5m1thy
nope autopilot means autorepair even if it's slow they repair.
GDKsan Yeah, all caps advice. The tone of the comments wasn't the point of my reply, it was the number of them. The fact you went a little cray cray.
"We have dont it! We found a way to lose!" - The NL story!
achievement unlocked!
NL, in the final fight you need to keep your cloaking for the power surges. You need to get your ship to a status where you can survive their weapons and use your cloking against the surges. This is the only way I was able to beat the flagship.
Yeh, the 60% evade from cloak really helps for surges and the missiles.
its good you didnt kill the crew. when you do the ship urn into an AI. repairing all rooms in a burst.
nl, its very importent that you'll disable the missiles. the weapon to the right of the cockpit. they tear you to shreds.
kill the crew member there and make it red. it will make your life alot easier.
also hacking might seem really good but in the flag ship a crew teleporter helps alot because you can disable all the weapons and they cant repair then because the crew there are killed.
These are so fun to watch, keep going! It's great to see you getting closer and closer to the end!!!
Good guy NL puts both parts up in one day. :D
NL never gives up a chance to dock.
I really do enjoy these episodes NL. Keep it up!
I didn't see this tip in the comments:
By the end-game with nothing critical to spend scrap on, upgrading your ship beyond what you can actually power is a great idea because it gives you extra durability on those systems _and_ gives you the option of supercharging those systems for a brief time when needed. Entering Sector 8 gives you repairs and a bunch of fuel, so you can afford to spend even more scrap on luxury upgrades than you might think.
Well if you need someone to help you lose I think we've found our man for the job, best luck next time Mr Lion.
Soooooo many movie and 90's/early 00's music references... I think I'm in love :)
its actually not a positive to kill every crewmember on the flag ship because it will start auto-repairing when everyone is dead. the ideal strategy is to kill everyone but one person, then damage each individual weapon system starting with the 3 missile launcher. (the people left alive cant repair them because they cant enter the room)
NL actually taught me about being able to mind control your own crew back. That's awesome, keep it up NL!
Ok. Just to make it clear. Rebel Flasgship weapons (From left to right): Ion (3 Shots), Heavy Lasers (3 shot), Missiles (3 Shot, 1 Damage Each), Beam (2 Damage). Each weapon sistem has 3 health. Good luck next time NL :D
hey NL, for this flagships first phase, i would've recommended this:
Mind Control their pilot.
It's up before I finish the other one.
NL knows what's up.
He knows how to upload episodes cut into parts.
Hello NL, been eagerly wathing you stuff on ftl and ive had to mention couple of pointers:
First of all, flagship.
Save energy from mind control and hacking and cloak when you dont use em or use em as much ;)
Also lv4 shields are kinda important.
Putting swarm missiles on auto fire could have been an interesting strategy with so many missiles, still entertaining episode.
System gets repaired between phases, dead crew remain dead
Don't kill all the crew or the advanced repair AI takes over
Also, don't cloak the heavy laser, cloak either missiles or the power surge
Alright, so you're main mistake in this was that you cloaked during the wrong point in the third phase. The third phases fires an awful lot of shots at once (during energy surges) so when all those shots come out, THEN you should cloak. Instead, you avoided the first three shots and ended up taking damage in some very important systems (cloaking). Once you're down, its very hard to get back up, and thus ended your run.
so endeth the run
Heya NL. Try this. It usually works for me on easy and i beat the flagship even when i dont expect it.
Get cloak, mind control, hacking and a flak gun(either one works)
Faze 1: hack engines - mind control the missiles guy(on the right of the pilot) - cloak the first missile barrage - go for the shields with your weapons while the engines are hacked
Faze 2: hack engines - mind control the laser guy (on the left of the pilot) -- go for the missile room then/ drones and shields while the engines are hacked, and your flak takes out the shields
Faze 3: hack engines - save your mind control to heal your own crew from their mind control- use flak to take out the shields while the engines are hacked, and hit the missile and laser room. Laugh in their face.
19:10 "I don't need more crew."
/facepalm
-why did you stop using your stop using your cloaking as a weapon preignator?? you start a fight and cloak right away, then LATER you use it to dodge missile. The time you were cloaked, his weapon don't charge. them you have full charge, he's still at 0 and by the time his weapon are charged you already had time to do plenty of dmg to his ship and your cloaking is almost back up
-his missile weap is his first on the right
-70 missile and 25 drone part is simply useless. you would have needed around 25 and 10 with your curent build MAX. Don't forget that repair station alwais give you a ton and also usualy get some after defeating any of his phase.
-It would have saved you enough money to buy med 3 and air system 3 non powered so you could have powered them when needed. Also not sure if you had it but you really want max door, make the fire created by all those missile shot at you move slower around your ship
- would also saved you enough money to get full crew at the store, might sound useless but you use your extra personel to repair faster, fight intruder and replace possible casuality
- ALSO!! good luck next try ;) love your video!
Makes you wonder when he's going to work on getting a Cloning Bay. It saves so many lives when it's working, and the back-up storage banks for them makes so that the crew is immortal. Just make sure you have a source of repair, though, or else you'll have a bad time.
NL, 2 QUICK TIPS VS THE FLAGSHIP:
1# Go for the missile laucher first, its the first one the the left of the cockpit
2# FFS, USE CLOAK When the POWER SURGE is comming.
right of the cockpit*
NL: Try to spend all of your scrap on system upgrades right before the rebel flagship fight. Even if you don't have the reactor power for everything, having a "buffer" for damage on any system helps a great deal.
For example, your 3rd level oxygen system takes 2 damage. A 1st or 2nd oxygen would've been destroyed, but because of its high level it can tank that damage and you don't have to worry about oxygen levels for the time being.
Edit: Finished the episode. You were so close this time. :o
Each one of these episodes is an unsuspecting thriller-fest.
NL two things
1. The weapon pre-igniter is bad with charge/swarm weapons because it only gives it one charge.
2. The swarm missile only uses 1 missile no matter how many charges it has.
Oh! And if you kill all the crew on the final boss there's still an artificial intelligence that runs the ship :L
Remember undpowered upgrades still help against the systems going ofline if they take damage.
FREAKIN MIND CONTROL THE MISSILE LAUCHER GUY IN THE FLAGSHIP ALREADY!
JESUS CHRIST!
+mkololpi123icer tried it. doesn't work.
Gotta love having the optimal number of missiles.
gotta love all the backseat gaming going on here, as if everyone's a savant at this game that never makes mistakes :-$ (or never MADE mistakes when they were still learning...)
NL's doin just fine, but I think he should step the difficulty back up to Normal soon; the final fight isn't all that different between difficulties imo, but the journey's rougher
Oh and of course be sure to leave one crew alive, so the ship doesn't auto-repair (usually the guy in the laser weapon room).
hey, northernlion, I just wanted to let you know that I noticed that the halberd beam only does one damage per room when it's going through shields
NL, the ion bomb is excellent and very cheap, power-wise. You can take down the flagship's 4 shields with each hit. It's a key weapon to succeed. Good series!
That finale was a masterpiece.
I've only played this game on normal so far, beat it once. Pretty much because I got an early weapon pre-igniter, and near the end I managed to get I think it was called the glaive beam? 3 damage per room hit, and I had two burst laser MK II's. Flag ship's phases down in about 2 salvo's each.
wow, the rng likes you
You my good man, had me laughing hard on that last part, talking while playing must really take your concentration off, but you are getting there.
great series by the way
I love your commenting style and I love your videos, so please read this with a loving voice in your head! I've watched all of your Advanced Edition videos so far, and since it does appear you read the comments, I'd just like to say something that I cannot believe no one else has said yet:
The only part you keep failing is the Rebel Flagship.
The amount of times he leaves 1 door closed that screws shit up is too damn high
Buys cloak to dodge missiles.
Uses cloak to dodge laser volleys, allowing the slower-firing missile launcher to fire in volleys of missiles for massive damage.
Ryan really good job! Keep it up my man. Soon, really soon we will see the glorious victory I can almost feel it
as it says at just before 1:30, they are building a second rebel flagship and the ship you fought was basically 3rd stage of the flagship
Thanks for the video! I feel sorry for that last shield guy! You flushed all oxygen out of the shield room, even there was no fire :-)
Hey just btw these 2 hour runs are TOTAL ok to split into two videos. Don't give up. you're so close!!
Make the flagship's missiles your priority and you will win.
if you took out all crew then it will turn automated and mad hard
take out most of their crew use a teleporter and mind control you can bring their crew over on your ship
I hope you read the comments because there is some awesome advice from these guys
It hurts to watch you aim your beams so badly :( Start at the inner edge of the room, not at the middle. You can always hit one more room at least.
lionThrow
He knows that very well, but for some reason he thought that in order to hurt a crewmember that is in the room, you need to have the laser physically hit the person as opposed to the room (WHICH IS DEAD WRONG NL) and thats why he started putting the lasers in the center of the room.
I wanted him to pick up on the strat of using the beginning of the beam attack on shields, and then the rest of the beam hits other rooms harder all on the same swipe.
sad to say NL, but killing the crew of the flagship does not win you the game, the ship has a backup AI that it can use
And the backup AI seems to be even harder to fight against.
the one good thing is that it will automatically repair systems, so you can have a boarding party repeatedly kill the same systems to eventually destroy the ship.... or you can fill the ship with fire and be the most satisfied you have ever been playing FTL >:D
That ending was intense. Hopefully you'll make it to the end more often now.
The only thing that really bothers me in your FTL LP, is how often you forget about what your crew is doing.
Man... forget the shields on the flagship. Mind control the pilot, power your way through the shields and take out their lasers and missiles first. Then do whatever you want because they won't be able to hurt you. At least you're starting to save your scrap for shops rather than just blowing it instantly to upgrade your systems. One day you'll get there. One day.
Achievement unlocked, sir: you succeeded in making me shout at the screen. :)
the third weapon from the left is the missile and that's what you should mind control.
