Can confirm about Matera. It's jaw dropping, pictures don't do it justice. Plus, there I had the best Italian food I've ever had (and yes, I've been all across Italy).

Not only are dogs allowed I used to take my cat when I was in Ostia and she used to wander around the restaurant and say hello to everybody .
Now I’m in Tropea and she pretty much does the same thing on her own , she is known as regina del Porto

Another excellent travelogue thank you so much. I am hoping to visit Sardinia in a couple of years that's what originally brought me to the channel, now I watch every video to see the adventures you and Connor have. Kinda quirky living vicariously through people you have never met. I can't wait for the next video.

And for those of you who do not have a built-in pizza oven, get yourself a pizza stone for your oven - well worth the investment!
Loved the breakfasts in Florence last October. Dining was awesome too! Did the pizza thing there as well!
Also did the winery tour in rural Tuscany, Baracchi. Wow!

A quick note on the last bit "the autogrill" (so the service you find on the highway): they are usually fine for a quick stop and refill (of food) and emergency but they tend to be more expensive compared to in town supermarkets and service points. So if you want to have a break they are perfect but if you want to keep an eye on your expenses better be carefull and plan ahead on your travels.
Example: a piece of focaccia and a bottle of water can cost you not less than 6/7 euro in a Autogrill while if you buy those in the city or village you are leaving they'll cost you no more than 2/3 euro (even from the big turistic cities!)

Hey Katie, cool and delicious food/travel. Every region of Italy the most delicious food you'll ever taste, I bet there's a big debate about which region and its capital should claim the title "Food capital of Italy", even though Bologna in Emilia-Romagna currently has the title. In your opinion, which region and the capital you think should be called "Food capital of Italy"?

    • @giovannimoriggi5833
      @giovannimoriggi5833 2 роки тому

Bologna is famous for comfort food which is very well known abroad (like lasagne), although there is pizza which originated in Naples or risotto which is typical of northern Italy, or Parmigiano cheese which takes its name from Parma, spaghetti alla carbonara which is from Rome, etc., and so on for hundreds of traditions and products around the country.
As a city of strong culture next to the plain called Pianura Padana (which offers a lot of raw material to the food industry, even to all the other cities in the area) Bologna is well known, but all the cities around it offer the same wealth. Perhaps in Bologna the institutional effort in the development of food culture in general is more important, but for Italy it is absolutely impossible to establish one place that is better than another. I think it is considered a capital because it is very productive, but not because it is necessarily better.
You have to consider Italy as a collection of places that share the Mediterranean diet as a base, but with as many adaptations as there are different geographical areas of the country, right down to the mountain areas where the Mediterranean diet is less noticeable than in coastal or island areas.
Yes, Bologna is the capital of Emilia Romagna (which is a large region in the middle of the country) but it is unthinkable for Italians to claim a city as the gastronomic capital of the nation.
      Europe is thick with tradition.
maybe if you go and ask any Italian, he'll say 'the food capital is my grandmother's house!' LOL

Hi Katie, love the videos! I (and three other people) will be renting a Trullo in Martina Franca from Sept. 27 to Oct 1st our last night AND my birthday 😁. We are fun, we love people, food and wine. I am fluent in Italian and would travel to Italy many times each year in my role as fashion designer. Would love to meet, but at the very least, per favore…..what is the name and where is that macelleria you guys ate in? Ciao, a presto!

Did you stop being vegetarian because of moving to Italy? I'm vegan and will be moving to Mexico. There will not be any vegan options at all where I'm going. For day to day life, this is fine...I can travel to cities where there are options and cook from home. However, I'm a bit nervous about not being able to share a meal in my own town. (My cooking is horrible, or I'd just invite people over.)

Secondo me sarebbe come darsi una martellata sulle palle.
Poi ognuno fa quello che vuole.
Senza offesa per i canadesi ovviamente ognuno ama il posto dove è nato e quindi fa il tifo per lui ma per chi non ci è nato è un'altra cosa.

I used to love Puglia, but it's become sooooo touristy over the last five years. You can't even get into Polignano old town in July or August because of the crowds. And the beauty of Alberobello's trulli area is tarnished by the sheer tackiness of all the tourist shops. The beaches are unbearably crowded in the summer (and let's face it, while the historic quarters of the towns are lovely, the modern parts, where most people live, are pretty ugly.) In the end had to move to Sicily to get away from all the tourists.
