You have always used us to top content and you keep on delivering! As a fellow european suscriber, you sure made me more interested in Oval Racing with this race. What a cool piece of content, the racecraft, the video quality, your always pro quality commentary! Really good job! Thanks for this! Cheers from Portugal!
My guess would be taht it was mainly the random numbers, but I did notice a couple of times in the pits when going down the gears and when getting away from a standstill that the rev-limited was hit. That obviously took a toll as well, if it was enough, no way to be certain. Really good drive, just bad luck not to get to go all the way to the finish.
1:11:37 The three tire stops are period correct. They had five-man crews, so three tire changers, fuel, and vent/air jacks. Left fronts would only be changed rarely (usually if damaged) on ovals when they ran the bias plys. The sixth man (and default four-tire changes) started in ‘88 I believe.
Yeah I’m this guy apparently. At least I’m replying to myself to contain it… 1:41:57 the max fuel allotment was real also. USAC and CART didn’t agree about much during this era but they both had the same rule (USAC at Indy and CART everywhere else) where you got enough fuel in the car plus the pit tank to finish if you averaged 1.8 MPG.
These full race many lap videos are fantastic. Something the viewer can get invested in or at least absorbed in and great commentary from the man. Tremendous.
Hiro finished 9th in the US 500 one time because there was so much attrition. I remember watching Indycar throughout the 90s and it was one engine failure after another. So I'd say they have the realism down pat.
Such a bummer that your race ended early, but I loved watching every minute of what you completed! I think a P3 or P2 would've been possible if the engine lasted the whole race. It's miraculous that Fredriksson's Buick powered car didn't blow up. Still, an overall great effort and a great stream! Thanks for all the great content :)
Sorry for your trouble. Few too many laps left for the Ralph DePalma "get out and push" option. 😁 (DePalma and Jeffkins at the 1912 500 is one of my all-time favorite sports stories.)
Aren't they? I bought them because they were on sale and i wanted something a bit easier to put on and off than the racing boots. I like the boots I have but they are a pain enough to put on that I barely ever wore them
Better visual quality than the real thing - Last year's race broadcast on NBC looked horrible. It looked like they were using 1987 NTSC equipment. I turned it off.
I could almost see Chris Economaki sticking a microphone in your face after you climb out and ask you “ what happened there Jake? You ran up front all day”.
Gutted. It reminded me of all those times I went deep into the Indy 500: The Simulation game way back when and had a similar problem end my race--too many times to count! Still, the sim race realism was very cool. Only 11 cars were running at the end of the real '87 500 and one of those was something like 70 laps behind!
In what should’ve been a guaranteed podium finish for you I was really looking forward to you taking up the challenge in the last quarter of the race for second spot, really gutted for you the way it ended, that’s racing.
Great video. Thank u for posting. I m wondering why u didn’t gear it for 4 th gear thru the short shoot then 5 gear for the straights. Keep 6th for slip stream . Anyway. Nice drive. 👍🇦🇺🥱
Indianapolis 500 History with Steve Manning 1986 Bobby Rahal completed the 500 miles (800 km) in 2 hours, 55 minutes, 43.470 seconds; becoming the first driver to complete the Indianapolis 500 in less than three hours. His average speed of 170.722 broke Rick Mears' 1984 record. Rahal later claimed his fuel light had come on during the final lap, and a post-race inspection showed that only two gallons of methanol fuel remained in his tank
Your videos are addicting. Could you show what your wheel and pedal setup is sometime? I have a decent budget and will probably use a console and tv setup to race. I'm guessing you are using a PC. Thanks again.
I can confirm- In RL the weekend can even before you get to the main race. And if you are rolling on a small budget it can be very very very painful…. Until the next weekend.
My Dad, RIP, took us to Indy every year. If I was to sign up n pay for for an online racing league, and would wanna race Open Wheel and/or Nascar, which should I choose?, iRacing, or this ISO? Can I race clean enough with an Xbox controller, or should I invest into a steering wheel like you have? I like your videos, watched your vintage nascar race last night.
@@GPLaps Thanks Jake for getting back to us and letting us know what was the most likely reason for your engine failure. I heard you say how many hours you were preparing and practicing for this race and it was heartbreaking for all of us watching and rooting for you to see it end like this. Your passion for Indycar is quite obvious for anyone who has followed your channel for any length of time.... and it was very rewarding to see you get to participate in a competitive online Indycar race. Question: After putting in so much time and energy for this race... does it make you less likely to race in an online multiplayer race in Automobilista 1 which has random failures? (Just wondering what your thoughts are on this... as I for one would really enjoy seeing you race again with this league)
could have just been destiny man didn't really use the car up that badly IMO. even had a lot of breathing room on the top end at the end of the long straight, in fact if I had to guess why your car was a little off the pace you might have had too much headroom on your 5th gear
What I wonder if you do over rev multiple times,if that makes it a greater chance for random failures. It would be cool to know if that's how it works. Especially later in the race when you've put the miles on it.
Thank you so much Jake for taking part. Your presence really elevated the event :)

I sure do enjoy your Channel GPLaps .... U r the Racing Sim Master !!! 👍👍😊😊
This was superb entertainment and the ending doesn't affect that at all

Jake!!! Bringing back the memories man - I was at this race as a kid!!! 36 years ago....WOW, it's been that long!! Thank you for doing this
Super unlucky Jake :(
You had a great run going, you looked so comfortable in the car. Such a shame to see it end how it did.
These full race many lap videos are fantastic. Something the viewer can get invested in or at least absorbed in and great commentary from the man. Tremendous.
Tough break Jake, you should have come to Sicily instead, we missed you!
What a bummer ! Shades of Mario, man feel bad for you. Thanks for letting us come along for the ride. Very enjoyable until..........

I respect oval guys cuz the patience it takes to let off and brake on a oval is something I don't have

Very sad ending, but fun to watch and fun to see you being so motivated :) Thanks you.
Dammmm!!!!!😫Hey brother I enjoyed the ride 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾✌🏾

Thats bullpoop! Great video and great driving as always. Thanks Jake.
I love AMS1, this looks like so much fun. Keep up the fantastic content 👍
I have the exact same shoes as you. They're great for driving.

Happy to see GPLaps in an ISO race even though I wasn't in this one ;)

Looked like the 1997 Indy 500 out there!
Man I was gutted when Ray got the DNF, typing this as I’m watching of course 😅
Great video. Thank u for posting. I m wondering why u didn’t gear it for 4 th gear thru the short shoot then 5 gear for the straights. Keep 6th for slip stream . Anyway. Nice drive. 👍🇦🇺🥱
I think it was the heat more than the revs.
Great race otherwise. You were pretty darn quick in that group.
Ouch I was gutted to see that engine blow. It was such a great run.
It wouldn’t be the 80s if cars didn’t just kinda stop working
Hey Jacob, job well done mate, I watched you race from beginning to the tragic end, sorry for you mate. I recon it was a random failure
that's racing for ya you can unfortunately only go as far as your machine will take you

I want to found a race team and give you a contract to be my driver lol. You are awesome 👏
Another great video, sir!
Well The Brickyard's there to crucify anyone who will not learn.
Would love to run this next year if it happens
👍 great job man

Gutted. Good run for a 1 off entry!
OH bad luck! ....but, In this mod has a Buick engine option?
Imagine this happening in real life, all that practice all that money all that planning for a failure to occur. ugh! Entertaining nonetheless!
I can confirm- In RL the weekend can even before you get to the main race. And if you are rolling on a small budget it can be very very very painful…. Until the next weekend.
oh man what a bad ending. you still rule Jake, youll get it next time bruh

That’ll stay with you for a while. Drove well though; take something from that.
"I barely over-revved it"
Your race was great until mechanical issues.
I watched until the failure on the video. Is it a random mechanical failure? Did you figure out what it was in the end?
Seems most likely it was random.
Random
Happens in all 500 milers

Who does the music for the menus? This tune is an awesome synthwave tune! Awesome racing too. Commiserations on the engine
Love the shirt! Will you be in Indianapolis for the big race this year?
Unfortunately not, I went in 2019, but hopefully can make it again some day
good stuff... they could have at least throw one yellow with so many crashing out. Anyone raced this in VR in the field? I wonder.
100% random failure. Gutting. On the plus side you weren't a Toyota on the last lap of the LM24. But it was a nailed on podium. Rough.
First 200+ mph....
Are there any 70’s mods for Indy cars?
Gutting to watch, wreaked by RNG!
What game is it!!!!! is amazing. Please Help me I want it
Should we call you Mario now?
Brickyard 400
where can u get the car n track from, thanks
They are available in the ISO forums!
What's the opening and closing song?
It is the song "Happiest Days" by "Three Chain Links"
@@GPLaps Thanks!
How to add these mods in ams?
Is there a link to the track mod or is it private?
I think its only available in the ISO forums

At the 47 minute mark you are turning into the corner way too early
You look so dejected watching the rest of the race.😞
