    Epic day. I am also Anglo Irish, born in London with the blood of O'Neills in my veins so I was always feeling torn in two; but now I see the chance of an identity I can live with.

    A grander welcome than the Queen received in Dublin. The Queen was greeted by Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs when she stepped off the plane then taken directly to the President.
    The President was greeted by Charles & Camilla at the Irish Embassy in London before going to the Queen.
    Now I think the Queen should've been greeted by the Taoiseach at the British Embassy in Dublin before going to the President.

      During the presidential election campaign in Ireland in 2018 people said the posters of Michael D. Higgins were "life size". He'll be replaced on 11th November 2025 because two terms is the maximum one person is allowed to serve as president.

    I was thinking "Why is no one singing Amhrán na bhFiann?", then I remembered the lyrics are about some soldiers getting ready to expel the English from Ireland, which is hardly suitable considering this whole visit was about improving diplomatic relations between the UK and Ireland. This is why we really need to change our national anthem, we can't sing it outside of our country because whatever event we're at, the English are there too.

    • @philbateman1989
      @philbateman1989 9 років тому +3

      Of course you can sing your national anthem around (intelligent) British people, I've been to Ireland numerous times and have been around Irish people singing Amhran na bhFiann. It's never offended me. They're not singing it about ME, it's about a historical event. If that's the national anthem and that's what they want to sing, I've never been bothered by it, in fact I've joined in on a few occasions. You shouldn't be worried about offending people, the song is about a real thing that happened, it's not about the present day British, it's about the British of the past and how the Irish overcame their bullshit.

    • @timothy9434
      @timothy9434 6 років тому +2

      Oh for goodness sake! The Scots are loyal British but their anthem, "Flower of Scotland" speaks of sending the English "homeward to think again". We're all a dysfunctional family. We know our brother England can be a prick. And we can sing about it, too! But we're all still FAMILY.

    •  5 років тому

      No.

    • @mikhailphilippov2862
      @mikhailphilippov2862 3 роки тому +2

      Well, for example in the Polish national anthem there are some words against Sweden, but they sing it everywhere. I don't think it's ok to hide the past, because it was so.
      Ppl must be proud of the past if it is ok, but go to the future

      The American national anthem is about the Americans fighting the British but they would play the Star Spangled Banner whenever an American president visits.

    I’m an Irish nationalist from the north. I love Ireland but I also love the UK and royals. Surely we can come to a sensible conclusion that recognises this and appeases the majority. My view is that Ireland should rejoin the commonwealth United with the queen as joint head of state 👍

    • @irrationalreasoning6368

      We Brits would then apply to Brussels for you be ordered to vote again until we got the 'correct' result.
      Only joking - but it would allow people of both 'traditions' to feel welcome in one another's company.
      Beyond the 'ring of steel' in Dublin, HM was well received in the Republic where ever the people were allowed to get close.

    • @gordonsmith8899
      @gordonsmith8899 3 роки тому +1

      @Diarmaid O'Riordan
      1. The Queen is Head of State of the Commonwealth Realms - ie the kingdoms of which she is Queen
      2. She is not head of state in any of the Commonwealth republics where she is acknowledged only as the Head of the Commonwealth.
      3. The position of Head of the Commonwealth is not hereditary - the Commonwealth Heads of Government can elect one of their number.
      4. HM asked the last Heads of Government Meeting to select Prince Charles to succeed her - a request they granted.

    • @HBC101TVStudios
      @HBC101TVStudios 3 роки тому

      @Diarmaid O'Riordan the Irish Free State is the first and last commonwealth realm that Ireland had. The Republic of Ireland is the Ireland that the Irish people deserved, after all.

      "Irish want to be part of Brexit"... oh you're hilarious. Ireland will be staying the EU. Ireland quickly set up a trade deal with France after the Brexit referendum. New shipping routes were established between Ireland and mainland Europe so the Irish truckers can avoid driving via the UK. And the Irish government is having the size of Rosslare port doubled.
