Ack! Developed a swollen ankle doing PT advised in person by a PHD physical therapist. Thanks for the tips. It was hurting so much last night I could hardly sleep and used arnica, aleve and biofreeze.
Iam sick of Edema its destroying my life. My feet stay swollen sometimes they go down. Water pills dont help edema is horrible esp for someone like me who go all the time i havent been to church in 2 months. Something has to be done my feet dont even look likecthey belong to me they resemble pig feet. I have been dealing with this for almost 2 years. And i know others have had this for years. My feet on top stay sore and wrinkled. I had nice feet now all thats gone. When the edema goes down my feet look like crepe , Iam so disgusted. What is a girl today. I pray that my feet will return to normal. Now iam reluctant todo anything when its warm. I have warm weather adema in the winter my feet are fine but sooncas the weather warms up all hell breaks loose. My heart goes out to people who suffer more then i do God bless you all.Philly
I pray you are healed and well
Thank you Brad and Tom for sharing this info to us , very helpful
Thanks for sharing all the videos. I am glad I found you guys .. I have venous insufficiency so my right foot swells and my leg is painful. I have to take pain meds. I do use the compression socks, and try to elevate when I can , but ty for all the helpful tips!!!
Happy to help!
Wow! So timely! Thank you!
This is very helpful! Thank you
Good to watch Doc Bob and Bradley, thank goodness you provide our reliefs !#
By the way... been pretty much binge watching your videos - very impressed with you two. One story I'll relate re my X... He had brain surgery where they took a glob of fat from his stomach to put in the area of the brain. He started having back pain - and the physical therapists recommended massage of the scar tissue where they took the fat glob out - that it was this scar tissue pulling on the muscles from the back... End of story - totally worked. Have been impressed with physical therapy ever since.
Thank you

Thanks, I am using c/socks. I started with the expensive kind, too difficult to put on, just imagine a person with aches and pain trying them on. I think light inexpensive kind are the best. Thanks, I picked up several pointers. Stay healthy with Bob & Brad.
Thanks so much Bob and Brad for more information
Thankyou for sharing. All the best.
"It's as Brad Thing". I love this. Go, Brad! You are one organized dude!

thank you both for all your knowledge, which you willingly share to help us. :) tc blessings
Thank you for all your video's. I have learned so much. I appreciate you both.
Thank you 😊
Thank you for this video!
Thank you for sharing good information
I started putting baby powder on my feet and leg before I use the compression socks on and that helps, I also cut the elastic on the back side of my socks and that helps stop swelling when I am not using compression socks.
THE EXCERISES HELPED VERY MUCH
Bob and Brad, May God bless and keep you, your families, and all your followers, in His loving care. You're truly a much needed blessing to many. Zillion thanks!!!☦️💒❤️
Thank you! We are happy to be able to help :)
Hi fellows, I enjoy your videos and I also use Tubi grips. I did not see you mention that when you are using them that you need to cut a length that will allow you to pull it up on you leg and then from the bottom of where you cut the length you need to pull that part up your leg on top of the first half of the tube. So you end up with a double layer. You may have mentioned it and I just missed it but if you only tell folks to use one layer I don't think it will help them very much. Thanks for all of your videos and advice.
I’ve just had 2 operations, and here in Western Australia, the nurses put a PLASTIC BAG on the foot first and the stocking slides over that. When the stocking is up far enough, just take the plastic bag off. So easy.
I also use tubing.
Really?! Good to know. Thanks! :)
Bob & Brad are always my go-to people!! I recommend their videos all the time! ☺️

Awesome video cankles are a big issue these days especially at wallmart
It’s easier to put those compression stockings on if you put rubber gloves on both hands then put the socks on.
A little trick is start with then inside out. Stick your hand in it and grab the heel and pull out pinching the heel, then pull them on
@@BobandBrad Could use a visual on that techique.
Thanks so much! It took my daughter the doctor to finally convince me to get the socks. The exercises help a lot.

Thank you both for your helpful and practical videos. Can I ask what do you think of raised bed therapy. Have been doing this for a while but there are conflicting reports. Listening from Italy.

I had an excruciatingly painful ankle earlier in the year, I thought I may have gout, after lots of research I decided it was inflammation due to my diet, I cut out carbs and all sugars, drank lots of lemon water and hey presto, it solved the problem, I also lost a stone and a half in weight. 🇬🇧
Good job!
What was diet?

Lemon Water I drink Every day. 👩🦱👍🍋🍋🍋 Its really good.🦶🦶
I believe you I try. But cola and juice are gone. No bread. But I am a chronic relapse. I can’t get my weight down. I keep telling myself lemon water drink more. I want to loose that belly fat.
Very interesting information. I have edema build up during the day but at night it gradually goes away because I'm going to the bathroom several times during the night. By morning my feet & ankles have no swelling. I buy the zipper compression socks open toes which are easy to get off & on, also can adjust the zipper. I note that wasn't suggested.
What brand are those zipper compression socks? Thanks.
I have a lymphedema pump. Medicare paid for it. It required a dr's order. The "leggings" are made of vinyl, with zippers up the fronts. I've had the same ones for over 5 years. 1 hr/two times a day. Great at getting the circulation flowing. I usually have to dash to the bathroom at the end of the morning hour of treatment.
Amazing! How did you guys know that I needed this info? Thank you so much!!!
Happy to help 😁
I go to the pool at least 4 times a week. Also decreased salt intake and sweets. It has almost eliminated the swelling.
Too, stopping meats other than chicken and fish flushes out the sialic acid to which the immune system chronically responds.
Also, at times swelling is because of low potassium, so, sometimes when salt is high, potassium is low. (teeter totter balance.)
Yes, I have lymphedema in my left foot, ankle swollen, foot to the toes. The whole 9 yards. Thanks for the video. The alphabet writing with the toe is a priceless tip. You're a great help.
I soak my feet in apple cider vinegar. Works great.
❤😂
At the 8 minute or so mark, the input that gradient compression hose pushes excess fluid up extremity is spot on. As a Certified Compression Garment Fitter, I take as long a time as needed to help patients understand the easiest ways to don a gradient compression garment (to start, turn hose right side out, fold leg portion of stocking down over the foot section, put your thumbs on each side of foot section of stocking, pop it open while simultaneously pulling it onto just your foot, then start going up the leg and let your leg shape pull fabric off your thumbs. Practice makes perfect on this step. Also, I teach people how high to go on a leg with the below knee hose (not into popiteal crease as that can be uncomfortable) and not to leave too much fabric high on the leg that might roll over and create a tourniquet effect. Next, how to pull off leg so hose is inside out and ready for you to go over to bathroom sink and wash stockings with soap and water. The murky water shows how much we sweat in our feet and legs. Rinse in fresh water. Oh, and remember to put on compression hose as you start to get out of bed in morning. That is when your legs are their least swollen. The compression material does wear out, probably not as fast as manufacturers would have you believe. I have my own hose to treat my swelling and even if less effective over time, it is better than no treatment. Not that much a fan of thigh high compression hose but some people have varicosities around the knee that knee high fabric irritates so thigh high a solution. Open toe variation appeals to people with toe deformities. The seam at the open toe design feels strange to my foot but again what works best for your needs is important. TED hose are for people that are bedbound or sitting in a wheelchair all the time. If not your situation, best to go with a true gradient hose. Better fabrics cost more than cheap fabrics that are harder to don. Hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for all the information.
Thanks this has been really helpful.
Thanks for taking time to share

Thanks for another helpful video. I bought those long compression socks and spent 15 minutes trying to get one off at night. My right leg is the problem for me. Your video about massaging the upper thigh, sides and under the knee was SO helpful. I will look at the Tubigrips.
Great to hear!

I've got this recently and been on a heart monitor for 24 hours been getting a lot heart palpitations and things still going through these explorations. Think it's the pandan making a lot of us sit in if you live in the city it's hard to go out as the fear of the Rona. Have to get back on a fitter route now as health has gotten worse. Drink water, exercise, tube socks, some dandelions.

Thank you, very helpful.
Great advice!
Such great advice as usual. I wear compression stockings. They work wonderful. Alone with not sitting long perods of time
Thank you for a lecture.
I love you guys so helpful!!! If you get a foot injury some lymphedema present can it go away completely?
Welcome to the 60+ club! Love your advise always. Really grateful for you both. Canada's public healthcare infrastructure is failing more than ever with the impact of the pandemic. It is truly survival of the fittest.
Thankyou both for fun and expertise! ☺

Dear Doctor great information What do you do to get the fluid to go up in your abdomen when you cannot lie down flat on your back because of pulmonary problems and Asthma
Yoga knee pillow - Amazon; amazing! EZ to maneuver under bed covers; EZ to turn over. Used after ankle injury and after about 6 weeks, I no longer needed to take PM pain/sleep meds. Best pillow ever...side or back sleeping.
Awesome thank you so much
New here, your page just popped up and I am glad it did. I look after my Mum to Brad and she has swollen ankles and is stubborn and won't get out of her chair or exercise haha. So these tips are great, wonder if I can wrestle those tubigrips on her haha.
Very good presentation, God bless both a n.v d your family too.👍
It help a lot if you put your legs up on a wall for 20 minutes daily. It circulate blood flow freely, breath easily and lower blood pressure.
Thank you for talking about swollen ankles! I am dealing with them and really appreciate your tips!

I Have this problem to.🦶🦶😤🥴
For those wanting to wear compression socks, but who have trouble donning/doffing them....there are now ones that have a zipper from the ankle up. They have been a game changer for a friend with congestive heart failure and rheumatoid arthritis.
Amazon carries them. There are probably other places as well.
Thanks! What’s the name of them.
@@divadiva1924 just search zippered compression socks. Amazon has many suppliers. They have sizes, so look carefully. Find their sizing chart and know what compression strength you want. Be sure which pair you are ordering.
There are also videos showing how to put on the non-zipper regular ones.
@@SirenaSpades Yes, and good technique helps. However, for people with poor hand strength, rheumatoid arthritis, neurological problems even technique and assistive devices don't make it easy to don/doff compression socks.
I use compression socks daily, as a chef I stand for 8 hours daily and am always on the run. I cut the tips off just below the sew seam so that my toes can breathe, I do use light socks over them as well. I found the compression socks will make your feet sweat but cutting off the toe part takes care of that!!
You can get compression socks on Amazon with no toes in them.

@Bob and Brad - On my right shoulder blade there is an area that will start hurting along with the area between my neck and the top of my shoulder. When it flares up all I know to do is back up against the corner edge of a wall and push to massage it the best I can. I’ve bruised my back doing this and was wondering what else I can do to relieve the pain. What’s going on to start the flare up to begin with? Is there something I can do to prevent it from happening at all?
I love your videos, they’re informative and humorous! I appreciate you guys taking the time to help us get back to healthy and happy💝😊💝
Tennis ball in a sock. Put it between the sore spot and the wall and roll it out.

This started to happen to me from working 12 hour shifts 7 days a week for 20 years. I'm only 35, but I suffer from this badly at the end of the day.
Same here, sitting for my shifts. I try to get up and do some leg lifts and jogging in place. Sometimes I’m so busy I’m sitting for the whole shift. My bum and thighs hurt the most.
That’s awful!🤭

What are the compression stockings that you've recommended in the past?
Thank you
I'm now 71 and when I was younger, I did have the occasional issue with it until mid20s when my ankles just looked like I'd stuffed a grapefruit in my ankles. I was a model for awhile so I didn't have a weight problem, played racquet ball, swam, scuba, etc. But I never had any success in getting it to shrink (used the Jobst compression stockings) until at 63 I had my left knee replaced and the swelling in my ankle and front of my calf. Magic. 2 months later I had the right one done and edema on front of calf and ankles/foot were still swollen but a bit better. What's my best choice for getting the rest of the swelling gone.
Interesting linked to the knees? Never thought of that too much. Thank you...researching. Hope you get an answer soon!!
Good I found u. First series was helpful.
Wow that’s awesome ,
Hi guys✌
I cured the rolling down of the compression tubes with 2" wide Blue painters tape applied about 1/4" below the top end of the sock creating a "starched collar" effect. You have to apply it without adding any additional compression. Or even better, in sections ...2 or 3 with gaps works great to retain elasticity.
NOTE: USE "BLUE" tape only as it is designed to release without damage to a surface. The standard tan tape will damage the fabric when removed.
Enjoy your common sense videos 👍 Thanks from the 60+ club 😄

I've been using the yoga pose, Feet up a wall for 15 min every morning before I get out of bed. I also do this at night before sleeping too. It makes a huge difference!
I’ve had lymphedema in one leg for years due to a lymph node removal in the groin. The absolute best way to keep it down to almost nothing is lots of regular full body exercise both aerobic and full body stretching..weekly yoga is fantastic for it. when it gets really bad, I take a prescription diuretic and that really really helps a lot.

Thanks to you both for the videos & exercises ,cld you pls let me know at what age the swollen ankles begins & does a person have itchness too ?? Thank you
Can occur due to change in heat or climate.. i have specialist fluid retention but all was needed was a cold spa everday to get it flowing again.
After having mild left ankle swelling off and on for a couple of years, it started getting worse. An ultrasound showed a large Bakers Cyst behind my knee. Again the swelling was off and on, until my foot also swelled. A special ultrasound revealed three deep vein thrombosis i.e. blood clots. Compression socks plus blood thinner helped about 95%. This is serious and shouldn't be overlooked as a cause.
Excellent details guys on ankles also want to sign up for muscle massage

A sock aid can help you put on compression stockings easier. I just subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for making it clear which ones to wear, I also was told that wearing mens stockings helps also instead of the compression socks. Not so hard to get on. and pretty colors as well. Thanks again.

Makes perfect sense 🤦♀️ I’ve been on an 11 hour flight with very tight socks
That shouldnt have caused swelling. They generally give you something called compression socks to help with circulation and reduce swelling
Thanks so much Bob & Brad, very helpful !!(as always)
Question: Since, we're on this topic, does anyone know of, or can recommend any useful "Natural" herbs, or websites, etc. for reducing swelling. (I've read in these comments, one about parsley) Thanks in advance. (And yes I understand about possible issues with taking certain prescribed meds & use of herbs, etc. & about asking doctor first, thanks) :)

Manual lymph drainage is a specialized form of manual (massage) therapy that can be very helpful. And sometimes deep massage under the bottom ribs will release the diaphragm which can pinch the inferior vena cava which carries blood up to the heart from the lower extremities.

I had bowed tendons from working too hard (carrying heavy loads) in 2004. It went down after about a year. Now in 2021 I have achilles tendonitis. I got a personal rebounder (trampoline) earlier this year, and also was doing step aerobics barefoot, and flared it up. :-( Ortho Surgeon said to wear this huge boot. There is too much to do to wear that big thing. I bought a few ankle ice packs, and change them often all day.
The ABC...exercise makes my feet feel so much better
You guys are looking better -- been at that vibration plate?
Stockings and/or tubigrips are sized by calf size. But what if my ankle size is about 9.5 inches (when not swollen) and my calves around 15 inches? I have swelling issues mostly in my ankle area, and if the calf compression is higher than that at my ankles, I might be having a torniquet effect too... What do you recommend I do? Thanks!
My mom, age 89 at the time, had swollen ankles and feet. Her doctor said it might be a side effect of the blood pressure medication she was taking. The doctor changed the medication and the swelling reduced to almost none in a day or two and did not recur. Certainly there are other causes of swelling. This is one to add to the checklist.
