I guess the upfront price difference might be equal to buying your gas up front for the life of the machine. I like the convenience of not having to go the gas station and transporting gas cans. All I have to do is plug it in and charge.

or filter the unfiltered gas fume with your own set of lungs.😵

Thanks for the video! I live in MN and I've got a 13yr old, 26" 2-stage Craftsman that I've literally never replaced anything other than shear pins on (I know, I know). This winter I've noticed the auger belt starting to squeal/stall in the heavy stuff so I'll be replacing that this week ($8). I'm wanting to get a new machine next year and the battery tech constantly changing is my biggest issue with making the switch, that and the cost of battery replacement. It typically takes me 1.5hrs to clear my driveway and the "poop loop" in the back for the dogs, so I have little faith that a battery unit can make it without a charge or extra set of batteries. That and the lighter weight has me concerned how it will do in the backyard for traction and keeping it from ramping above the snow. I honestly think electric is still just to new to know how they will hold up long-term compared to gas. It's very common to see 15+ yr old gas models running like new with minimal maintenance cost. A new Ariens 28" Professional with the electric joystick chute control looks pretty sweet to me. Pay once, cry once...right? :)

Thank you for the very informative video comparing the electric and gas Toro snow blowers. I just purchased the Toro cordless Personal Pace lawn mower and the mower has plenty of run time to cut both my front and back lawns. Now I plan on purchasing the Toro 26" cordless snow blower and will keep my gas blower as a backup. The feature I really like is the blower can hold 3 batteries and I already have 1. When I run the blower I can use all 3 batteries for a longer run time.

I just ordered Toro's 28 inch commercial with the 420cc engine. a monster. no battery unit will ever touch it. One fatal flaw with battery powered anything in winter cold....subzero cold is death to battery capacity. That goes for EVs and Battery blowers. I had a big toro gas blower 20 years ago, 13 horse engine, ran that thing really hard for over 5 years until it just started rusting out. Fantastic. Toro gas snow blowers are the best....

Electric snowblower is nice if you have money to blow or your not mechanically inept. $700 worth of batteries every 3-5 years tho starts to add up. My biggest complaint with gas snowblowers is the carb plugging. Ethanol free gas is nearly impossible to find at any gas station near me, and home depot sells the stuff in a can for $25/gallon. I ended up just putting a fuel switch on mine....turn off the fuel to the carb and drain it after every use.

Have an EGO mower, chainsaw, and leaf blower...but living in NH with a 150' driveway, wet heavy snow, and very cold temps...I'm staying with gas on the (Ariens Platinum SHO) snowblower.

-- I think when fuel injection becomes common on small engines will put electric to bed, until the technology is ready. Impact gun, drill, you name it. We're there. 2-strokes from string trimmers to chainsaws - there's an argument to be made. But when you get to (spitballing) 100cc to 1200cc, gas is the way to go. Fuel injection standard on those motors and smaller, should be the next step.

nobody mentioned the effect subzero cold has on all batteries. performance really suffers...plus you absolutely have to warm your dead batteries to above freezing before charging or you can permanently damage them.

Thank you for making this video and explaining the difference between the gas & electric outdoor equipment. Most people do not remember or aware that the very first car in history was an electric car and electric equipment arrived before gas equipment. I often see my neighbor who starts his gas snow blower in the morning, strap on the truck while the unit running to do the snow removing jobs to prevent engine stop and many time it did and he had to deal with it with frustrations. I have been shoveling snow manually until 4 years ago as I do not see the logic to voluntarily operating any unfiltered fuel equipment than using my own set of lung to filtering the gas fume for the environment.
Toro went into the electric equipment a few years behind others and needs to catch up on the battery charging speed and capacity. I purchased the EGO equipment before Toro introduce their electric equipment 4 years ago. EGO already have commercial electric equipment for yeas and their consumer line is using 56V batteries (usually 57~58V on the meter while Toro 60V is at 56V or lower) currently available from 2.5Ah to 12.0Ah and some equipment includes charger that is able to charge a 12.0Ah in 75 minutes or a slower dual port charger in 180 minutes on 2 x 12.0Ah batteries. With four sets of batteries (7.5Ah 3/ya & 10.0Ah-12.0Ah 5/ya warranty) and two rapid charges included from various equipment (cheapest way to get batteries at 1/4 of price of MSRP with EGO) I am able to have continues runtime between operating, resting/cooling for an hour and charging to full power when operating the 2-Stage snow blower, dual port lawnmower, snow shovel, garden actuator, leaf blower, 1000W LED light, trimmer, edger, 120V/USB inverter, misting fan... and more. Cost of gas vs electricity is at 4~5 : 1 where I am plus the saving not have to drive to gas station to get gas, maintenance cost and time it just make more sense for household to have battery powered equipment.

Thanks for such a thorough take on that matter! Toro is definitely doing their best to move to the front of the pack with battery technology. This year they are releasing 60V commercial handheld along with their commercial stand on and sit down zero turn mower. The small equipment and handheld is close with price but the big commercial equipment has some work to do as far as getting the price down. Really appreciate you watching and commenting!

I’m a gas guy. I clear snow in Canada.
Dealers never tell you how much batteries cost and never talk about the long term operating cost. Long term gas will last longer.
Who cares how “cool” it looks?!!!
My gasser is 20 years old and going strong. Batteries will never last that long and wait for when the manufacturer changes their battery hookups and chargers.
The whole EV and electric mower/blower/trimmer thing is all marketing scam to make the manufacturer more $$$.
Electric can NOT handle the volume of snow a gasser can in the same time. You will spend hours charging batteries while I’m done sitting inside already.
The experience will not be better with battery. He’s trying to sell you expensive batteries. He said it himself. If you want longer run time buy more batteries and he makes more $$$.
    Its all a sales pitch.
