ST 1300 Review - Part 2 of 5

- Model year is 2007. ABS brakes. I had read many reviews on the ST over the years and had always liked the looks, but never made a purchase. Age and arthritis have made it difficult for me to ride much more than a few minutes at a time, on my sport bikes and also forced me to give up racing.
However, after returning from the longest ride I have had in years, I can tell the ST was the right choice for me. This is due to the riding style which is upright and more relaxed rather than being an effect of the ST in itself. But, I am happy it is in my stall and wanted to share my thoughts for those interested in this bike.

"I was a bit of a hotdog on the street" I friggin love this guy. You know what dude, instead of getting a 2016 K1600GTL so my wife can have armrests im gonna get one of these for half the price and i get to keep my V4 itch scratched(Magna V65, VFR800)
Rob doiron here, just bought an older 2005. picking it up tomorrow. Remember seeing you in the parking lot on west side and your glowing review of this bike. well now i have one, cheers =)
Rob! Cool. I'll send you a message lets go for a ride dude!
The rearmost slot on the spring-loaded moveable bracket under the front seat is designed to give clearance, so that the upper gas tank can be slid backwards for servicing the air filter, etc.
I did 45K on an '05 ST 1300 Incredible bike ..... recommend lowering (and softening) seat for some ..... V-4s Rule!
Enjoying your Play by Play commentary.
Another great review... awesome.
0:03, the later models come with blanking covers to fill this void, could they be fitted to earlier models?
Great video, I've just bought an ex police st1300 which feels very sit up and beg to me. Just watching this video I noticed you had the same screws in the top yoke as mine so I've just got out of bed and gone out to look at mine at 02:50 in the morning and sure enough it's got the same bar riser on it. That's going to have to go, I tend to get on OK with the position on all my Honda's so will be removing it.
How would you rate the gear changes on the ST? I have a CBR1000F, and thinking of moving to an ST next time round... The CBR has a typical CBR clunk to the changes...
Sorry for the late response. Don't often check back in on these videos. But in case you still need the info or other people can use it, the bike shifts in a very deliberate way if that makes sense. The gear throw isn't exactly long, but it's not a "snick" either. However, I can vouch from experience, it shifts much smoother with synthetic oil.
bikenutt1000 Thank you. I have my ST now and enjoying it.
Hey good to hear! Have a safe and enjoyable season!
I also have a Blackbird, and I am looking to buy a ST1300 (For the long ride ) What is your cold Idle RPM ? What is the hot idle RPM . What consumables have you had to replace ?
Cold idle is between 3 and 4k rpm and hot idle is about 1100 if I remember correctly.
@@deekamikaze That would be too high of an idle. Especially on something with such a low rev limit. Mine just cracks 1000 at cold start up and then settles down when warm.
@@fixitmyself Warm idle should be around 1000RPM +-100RPM
I have the forward foot pegs, at first I thought I wouldn't use them as them came on the bike when I bought it, but I find it nice to stretch out for a bit from time to time, and the look good folded up too. However the seat! I hate the seat, 2 hours max and my butt is killing me. cheers
I ride one for work and I do have to agree that the seat is terrible. My work told me that I could pay for a new seat but they wouldn't buy one because it's not a safety issue. I sucked it up and your butt will get used to it. I can now go 5+ hours with no issues.
Seats are a personal thing. I kept telling myself I was going to replace it for over 11 years and last year I finally did it. Went to see Seth Lamm, of Lamm Seats, in Redding, California. Don't be dumb like me and procrastinate. Just do it. Unbelievable improvement.
how do you deal with the weight of the bike not to drop it?
I find the bike well balanced considering what it is. My seat is in the midway position, so just enough of my feel touch to keep me reasonably stable.
Years ago I was taught by a female instructor how to pickup a full dress Harley using the handle bar. I tried it and it worked. Similar to this demonstration. I wouldn't want to try it and hope you don't have to but if the day ever comes, this is what I would do.

Torn between this machine or the fjr1300. I think it's going to have to be both, ps I also have a blackbird which I intend to keep. Thanks for the great review.
Always like the Yamaha, have owned several...good luck with whatever you get!
You cut a small block of wood with a tapered cut. Drive up on it and it makes getting on center stand easyer
I understand the principle, but I am not sure about the execution. Your channel doesn't have any content so I am suspect about this. Why not post a vid showing how it's done, especially for riders with shorter inseams. Obviously after riding the bike up the wood, you have to get off. Some of us are already on tip toes without making the bike any higher. Do you do this yourself? Again, a video would help. I just think it's easier to keep the bike on flat ground in neutral and give a good yank and shove with your foot.
@@fixitmyself The bock of wood trick is used for GoldWings motorcycles for years to get on center stands that's how I started using it my self
I've just never seen it. I'll have to look for it on UA-cam.
You don’t have a abs.
Are you asking a question or making a statement and what is the premise of your question?
The seller told me it had ABS, I have never put the bike into a situation where I needed it, however, your question prompted me to go start it up and I do have an ABS light on the dash that goes out after a few seconds. My guess is that it does have ABS.
@@fixitmyself your front wheel does not have a ring around it with notches to read the wheel spin that I could see.
It has ABS
@@eddieleuthauser7704 The ring is found on the right hand side of the front wheel - you can also see the ABS rotor on the rear wheel in bikenutt1000's next vid.
