I had the same problem with the stock 5rd Savage magazine that came with my rifle. I went and got a Savage 10rd mag thinking that would fix the problem, but had the exact same problem. So I got factory Savage stainless steel mags and they work perfect every time. I got 2-5rd and 2-10rd stainless Savage magazines and never had a problem again. They load perfectly every time. They seem to be built better then the stock steel mags and are a much tighter fit then the stock mags. If I have one complaint they are a little finicky to load in the rifle. But I will take that over having problems cycling rounds.
You're lucky. I've bought a pack of 5 individual mags years ago. Were all shat. Put rifle in back of safe out of infuriating feeding issues. Saw rifle other day and thought I'd Google a bit to hunt for new better mags. Such an incredible rifle for the $. They must have saved the $ in mag production. Was a bad joke, please don't attack me.
I love my savage. But I have 3 different savage mags made 10 years apart. They all do the same thing. You go to chamber a round then the bullets tip up at a weird angle, then all 5 shoot out of the mag all over the place. It's a pain bc the rifle itself is very accurate

Interesting video my lefty savage Mkii G has never once had any sort of malfunction regarding the factory 10rd mag it came with. Always felt pretty solid construction wise for the apparent cheap manufacturing of the mags (not that they need be expensive, its a .22lr after all). I recently purchased a savage 10rd silver/stainless magazine and it has also performed spectacularly. My rifle has other issues though, as the barrel is not centered with the stock and it angles off to the right which doesnt really impact how it shoots since the sights are not mounted on the stock but its more of a craftsmanship irk. Maybe a simple fix to correct that but i havent bothered with it yet. I get they are cheap rifles but the nice finish on the stock is ruined by the safety and bolt notches that look like they were done with a dremel and are splintering because they cut them AFTER the stock had its finish coat. Also the barrel and receiver finish is alright on mine but i dislike the matte finishes they feel cheap and scratch crazy easy. Want to try and maybe refinish my barrel and receiver and throw them in an aftermarket stock to just overhaul the whole rifle lol. Unfortunately, next to no one makes lefty stocks for these rifles that are a style i want. Despite all that still love the rifle and its crazy accurate as well.
Thanks for the comment! i dont have much experience with the mkII in wood. But, my Savage 93r17 has a wood stock on it from the factory. Beautiful grain, decent stain, perfectly free floated barrel, it is a bit of a satin/matte finish coat. It is actually produced by Boyds for savage and is an example of that classic Boyds quality. That rifle is probably 6-7 yrs old i do not know who makes them now for savage but that is unfortunate about its fit and finish. I know Boyds makes some left handed models. it may be worth a look on their site to see what is available if you are ever interested in replacing it. Thanks again for watching!
Glad I saw your video. My 10 round magazine split and is useless. It’s almost comical to have a full magazine just unload all over the ground. I’ll try some super glue on it. My 5 rounders work well.
I just bought this gun also, haven't really put it through its paces yet. I was wondering about shorts, i didn't notice the barrel had '22lr only' stamped on it until after I bought it
I find this video odd. I have 15 Lakefield/ Cooey/ Savage mkII magazines varying in age from 3 years old to 50 uears old and I've never had a issue like you described. As a matter of fact all my magazines control the roinds so precisely you can load shorts in them and they slide up into the extractors perfectly and go straight into the chamber on all my MKII rifles (i have 4 currently). Id try another Savage mag maybe you just got 2 bad ones
Thanks for watching. Glad they are working for you! Over multiple people close to me that have MKIIs all have experienced some sort of similar issue to varying degree. I have had new mags sent to me by savage. They work for a little until they dont. The magazines are plain and simply poorly designed. Its a shame as the rifles are very accurate and have alot of potential, unfortunately for some, a magazine downfall.
about those sharp magsn take a drimmel grinder to it and dress them up. I will never buy a plastic mag. can't adjust it. So far i HAVE BEEN REAL LUCKY WITH MY STEEL MAGS. THANKS FOR THE INFO, REALLY HELPED ME OUT.
The 5-round mag that came with my mark II was pretty much useless. I had to grab a 10-round mag from Savage. It's working OK. If I only load 9 rounds or less 😵
Strange. I have 4 10 round factory mags and they are all rock solid so far. The only thing the rifle does not like is having a full magazine inserted with the bolt closed. I just load them all to 9 and I've never had enother issue.
Great video! Not that it matters but the mkm is 3d printed and technically a nylon mag. Usually the issue is the nylon printed parts usually have feed lips that cant stay in shape in the long run and they cant take heat and have a very short duty cycle. Im going to try the savage stainless mags i think. I have been lucky so far with my 5 rounder for about 500 rounds, but 500 rounds is nothing. Anyways, great job!
The issue that I've been having is that when the mag is fully loaded and I bump it the wrong way, ALL of the rounds come flying out of the mag like nothing is holding them in. Both my 5 rnd and my 10 rnd do this. I have attempted to fix this by very slightly bending the feed lips in and it hasn't helped at all. I've looked for a good aftermarket mag for my MK 2, but can't seem to find any that are worth the money they want for them. I had actually heard about the MKM and C Spec mags before seeing this video and have heard the same problems with them that you just covered. I'm seriously thinking and converting my 5 rnd mag into a single shot feeder and just making it a single shot, but that takes a lot of the fun out of it, especially if you're like me and chase squirrels around all day. Honestly I'm at a loss with what to do about it. If you come up with anything please let me know. Maybe I've just missed something...

I have a mark 2. I’ve had feed issues before but I figured it was because they use a shitty spring and I had left it loaded. It’s the only weak point on the gun
I like my rifle but god the stock 10 magazine I was given is sharp as hell. I've cut myself with it a few times and it is always digging into my jacket. love the rifle but man i wish a had a nicer mag or flush one.
I have very similar thoughts aswell. My mag is sharp enough it makes me second guess slinging it on my while while wearing any sort of puffy style jacket or rain shell!

Think Savage had a bad batch of mags. I’ve heard this, but haven’t had a problem with mine. I actually like the factory mags because their construction is very similar to my 70 YO Winchester 69A mags which have always worked great! On the Winchester, you can see were they were staked with a screw driver like blade which you don’t see on the Savage mags, so I went ahead and staked mine with a small hammer and old screw driver. 6 months later, and still no problems, and the Savage MkII is a one hole shooter at 25 yds.
Nice! I also have found staking or gluing the savage mags did help. I have had mkii mags seperate to the point of the follower and any remaining rounds in the magazine find a new home in the grass while exiting the top of the magazine at a high rate of speed..
I have fired thousands of rounds through the three savage mark 2s I own without a single mag breaking a weld. My secret? I have the bolt open when I insert a magazine. With 5rds loaded in the mag and bolt closed you have to really slap it up there to lock it in. The rest is obvious!

Factory mags aren't press fit. The tabs should be bent tight over the side plates. If yours are loose, tap the tabs with a light hammer and problem solved.
Hello there. No the MKII mags are used for mostly 22lr or 17hm2.. 93 mags are a bit different for the magnum rimfire cartridges like 22wmr and 17hmr. I have experience with both magnum rimfire calibers in the 93 platform and dont know that i have ever had one magazine malfunction from them. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! Aaron
"blows my mind" 😅 It's not rocket surgery. You get what you pay for.🤷 They produce very affordable, accurate firearms. How do you think they achieve this? It's called mass production and cutting corners. If you want perfection, pay for it.🤔 Get a CZ.
Searching for this vid meant previous problems, and my mag is one. I have to be VERY careful in loading the magazine, if not the top round will stick straight up, like an awkward boner. Sometimes just after putting all 5 round in, the magazine has a happy moment and ejects three rounds out of the mag onto the floor. No input needed. I'd say almost 66% of the time, this mag will have some stupid issue. And after watching this video, I can feel some play, almost a slight click when pressing the sides in. The rifles's 10 years old, maybe 1000 rounds fired through it. It shoots great, but that magazine!
Savage couldn't care less about the trash magazines they supply with the gun,I had a few e-mails back and forth with them, then called all they kept saying was mail the gun back, nothing wrong with the gun Csspecs mags fix the problem
If you buy a Savage gun, somewhere with it, you will have a problem with Savage ‘junk’; going back to 1994 mdl 116 SS in 30-06; 2006 116 SS in 375 RUGER to Savage mdl 110 Tactical in 308W (barrel replacement) purchased in 2022. As you can see many years apart between each purchase; Savage continues to make ‘junk’.

When the title mentioned "Best" I would think you had a solution to a problem. I haven't had issues but assume I will since I've heard many complaints about these magazines. If all of them have issues, I wouldn't consider any to "Best".
Adequate... satisfactory or acceptable in quality or quantity. Best...of the most excellent, effective, or desirable type or quality. If you strive for adequate, you'll never have the best. @@monke_cuzI had the same query. I’m thinking I’m going to go with the 22lr - no magnum. Why? I decided to check the prices of the ammo. 22lr - I’ll be able to shoot all day at 12-15 cents per bullet. 22wmr - at 34 - 50 cents per round. These prices are at today’s market at this date posted (Dec 27, 2023). PS….Yeah, I guess I’m a cheap bastard. If price is not an issue then cheers to ya & happy shooting w 22wmr. Also, use of the rifle for me is for plinking & target. I’m not fortunate enough to have my own land to shoot. Firearm restrictions in my county about shooting a firearm in open public even if it’s in the desert where I live 😞. I don’t wanna risk my CCW license, so I have to figure in cost of going to the shooting range as well as cost of ammo where I can plink.
Just load tge mags one less than max capacity. A LOT of mags (especially 9mm) have same ailment. Besides if you it takes you 5 - 9 shots to kill a squirrel or hit the bullseye you need to back up way further than complaining about a magazine. Another option is to do what men USED to do.., analyze, determine, and fix. Stop being soi boys who can't read an analog clock. Consume more fat and increase your testosterone. 😅
Savage's mags are notoriously bad in this particular gun. Do you tell AR people to just use milspec aluminum mags? I sure hope not. They're trash. I have 5 20 round csspec mags and they all work great. Best part is they're even stainless steel and nitrided so they'll basically never rust.

@@xb0xisbetter i said whats dumb about 20 round mags, they hang too low. its in the way and annoying and I've never not gotten my target by shot 19. where is any of that well documented then? in buddies video where he has a shitty non oem mag? @@sukhoiboy4140 Why would your stupidity clear anything up? Everything but the density of your skull is as clear as mud. I already explained why how much the 20 round mags hang down is irrelevant. They don't even touch the shooting bench with the rifle resting on it with a bipod set to a comfortable shooting height. What does shooting at one target have to do with 20 round mags? They're plinking mags, not hunting mags. There's a range here with dozens of awesome steel targets at various ranges. I often think 5 20 round mags is too few to sustain the fun. Whether or not they're "stamped steel mags that can be unpacked and rebuilt with a knife" is totally irrelevant to the question of their quality and reliability. Your OEM mags currently still work without any problems. Congratulations. That's obviously not a reason to proclaim "oem mags or go home get real bud". The problems with the OEM mags are documented all over the internet going back to at least 2009 just with a quick Google search for "Savage mk ii magazine problems". Since I'm not an idiot, I already had csspec mags in my possession before I ever even hit the range. Peruse any one of the various threads about it on rimfirecentral. The OEM mags aren't held together by anything, the csspec mags are welded. They're also stainless and nitrided. Even if they were not stainless, nitriding is far more resistant to corrosion than bluing. Literally 0 argument can be made for them to not be superior magazines in both construction and corrosion resistance.

What bore guide do you use for your Savage Mark II? I'm having a hard time finding one that works
How bout OEM magazines and have somebody TIG weld the friction points…?
I did that to one of mine and so far it's doing ok. I've just around 100 rounds through it....
@@ac7fd cool, good to hear. Thank you.
Factory mags aren't press fit. The tabs should be bent tight over the side plates. If yours are loose, tap the tabs with a light hammer and problem solved.
If you watched the video he clearly tried that
Hello all happy new year. 12/30/23 is when I’m messaging
Got a question. Are Savage model 93 mags the same as the Mk || ?
I’m new to savage rimfire.

Why savage stops short of excellence just blows my mind.
It shoots great, but that magazine!
ive seen the same issues as you describe! haha
I've had problems since day one. Anybody tried talking to Savage?
@@rudolphferdinand3634 Found recently that round nose ammo seems to laod fine. All my issues are with hollow point ammo.
Why not provide a link for C-Spec (or however you spell it)?
i suppose it was not impressive enough to bother
@@blackswampoutdoors4850 I was the best of the bunch was it not? I am looking for a magazine and of all the ones you tested I thought it was the best. Any other suggestions?
I won’t sling my rifle with the mag in because it hurts.
Had that problem 2 lol 😂
where did you get that bolt handle/knob? i cant find it anywhere
It came on the gun with the FVSR package. Im not sure if you can get them aftermarket or not! I cant say i have seen them.
@@blackswampoutdoors4850 dam. I bought the F version. Comes with a standard ball bolt knob.
Sold my gun because of magazine issues
When the title mentioned "Best" I would think you had a solution to a problem. I haven't had issues but assume I will since I've heard many complaints about these magazines. If all of them have issues, I wouldn't consider any to "Best".
Best doesn't mean perfect- best means best lol
Maybe adequate but not best.
😎
@rmarasco1420 if adequate is best then it's best 👌🏻
You should probably grab a dictionary lol
Adequate... satisfactory or acceptable in quality or quantity.
Best...of the most excellent, effective, or desirable type or quality.
If you strive for adequate, you'll never have the best.
Your opinion on definitions doesn't change my opinion of this video. You haven't stated any crucial information regarding magazines.
@rmarasco1420 I didn't come here to state crucial information about magazines- I'm here because I'm amazed that a person can lack understanding both of the words best and most-
Both of which being words my 4 year old understands well lol
Great, more garbage from Savage. Still waiting for a part on my new out of box semi
What 93 model is that
Savage MK II-FV SR Multicam 22lr.
Its listed as an exclusive on savages site. I have never saw another. Im a huge multi cam guy and when i saw this one i had to have it.
@@blackswampoutdoors4850 idk if I should get it in 22lr or 22wmr
@@blackswampoutdoors4850 advice?
Besides if you it takes you
5 - 9 shots to kill a squirrel or hit the bullseye you need to back up way further than complaining about a magazine.
Another option is to do what men USED to do.., analyze, determine, and fix. Stop being soi boys who can't read an analog clock. Consume more fat and increase your testosterone. 😅
Why is everything trash though
good question
oem mags or go home get real bud
Savage's mags are notoriously bad in this particular gun. Do you tell AR people to just use milspec aluminum mags? I sure hope not. They're trash.
I have 5 20 round csspec mags and they all work great. Best part is they're even stainless steel and nitrided so they'll basically never rust.
@@xb0xisbetter i have six savage mk ii mags that all work fine. 20rd mags sounds dumb to me man hangs to low off the gun. 5 and 10 is good. oem mags or go home get real bud.
@@sukhoiboy4140 I have the OEM mag that came with the gun and I haven't had any problems with it, but it is well-documented that the OEM mags are poorly made and will eventually fall apart.
What is dumb about 20 round mags? These are cheap plinking rifles. I have a bipod on mine so 20 round mags work just fine.
You haven't given any reason to stick with OEM besides "go home get real bud". Why spend about the same price for an inherently objectively inferior product?
@@xb0xisbetter i said whats dumb about 20 round mags, they hang too low. its in the way and annoying and I've never not gotten my target by shot 19.
where is any of that well documented then? in buddies video where he has a shitty non oem mag? ' will eventually fall apart' dude they are stamped steel mags that can be unpacked and rebuilt easily with a knife.
the reason given for oem mags was that they work without any problems.
and its not objectively inferior, subjectively maybe but not objectively.
does that clear it up for you there bud or will i need to reply once more?
