To me Marianne Faithfull rendition of this song in her live performance on Hulabaloo in 1965 is the most touching. I think every guy her age at that time fell in love with her while listening to that mournful voice and staring at that beautiful innocent face on her. Please react to it. You will get the in-depth feeling of this song.
British invasion back in sixties!! So many groups that came over to our country and I mean they really had huge success...Love the song then and now!! Outstanding performance!!!! Another one that I love by Rolling Stones is 'Time on my side' Hopefully u will react to that one as well!!! Love ur reactions!!!
other good early Rolling Stone songs are "Heart of Stone" and "Play With Fire", but I would suggest the recorded versions to get the flavour of the times
This was on their first album released in the US. December's Children 1962. The original was acoustic guitar and violins. No drums, no electric guitars.
I was the lead singer in a band in High School back in the 1960s & this is one of the songs we performed. Actually we did a lot of Rolling Stones covers from their songs on their albums. IN those days most people just bought singles(45s) & not the whole album . Consequently by doing a lot of their songs from the albums that weren't released as singles people thought we were doing original material which worked well for us. Anyway my first true love & I went our separate ways back then due to miscommunications between us, I thought she didn't want me anymore and was devastated. To my shame I reacted badly and said a lot of nasty things about her that i greatly regret. Well a few years back we had the chance to reconnect giving me the opportunity to apologize for my terrible behavior. Graciously she forgave me but I found out in the process the truth which was she did not want to break up back then and was devastated by it, especially with my mean comments. She told me that back then she listened to this song over and over again in her sadness for a good year after the break up . On top of that she was so hurt by my behavior that she was in therapy for years because of it. I am so grateful we had the chance to set the record straight! While I am sad that we never had the chance to continue our relationship, yes I still love her as she is a wonderful person it could have been a lot worse. The guy she ended up marrying was a friend of mine and frankly if I was given the chance to choose who she would end up with it certainly would have been this guy. They are still happily married and looking back I have to admit in a way I am glad as I can see he was much better suited to give her the good life she deserved than I ever would have done. I kind of got side tracked and wasted about 15 years of my life getting high and spinning my wheels. Though it pains me we didn't end up together I love her enough to admit she really ended up much better off marrying my friend. I am just glad we had the chance to reconnect and get things out in the open and I had te chance to apologize. A lesson people words can either bring life or they can kill! Be careful what you say, just be kind!
That's the 12 string guitar. The original Rolling tones version had a string quartet and 12 string. They were copying the Beatles Yesterday idea. Yesterday came out first. Except that Rolling Stones wrote it in 1964 because Marianne Faithful did it first.
They were copying the Beatles because they had an acoustic guitar and strings in their version? There are strings and acoustic guitar in Marianne Faithful's version, which was recorded months before the Beatles did "Yesterday".
Also, for another great collaboration with Mick, see him at the 2009 Rock n Roll HoF Concert, he does Gimme Shelter with U2 as the backing band and with Ferigie of the Black Eyed Peas on the female vocals, the chemistry between her, Mick and the band is off the charts, if you liked this that will blow you away! 🎵🎸🎤🎶
I believe the song is seen through the eyes of an elderly person nearing the end of their life, watching the younger generation, and feeling a bit lonely and discarded. "It is the evening of the day" as a metaphor for the inevitable approach of that person's twilight years. "Smiling faces I can see but not for me" the feeling many older people can get of being left out, ignored. A beautiful but somewhat sad song.
That was cool. I never saw that clip. Thank you. They've been bringing out younger stars for cameos a lot more in the last 10 years of touring. I think there's one with Lady Gaga as well.
Yes, Marrianne's version is surely worth a listen. They have a ton of great early songs back when Brian Jones was still alive and in the band, try Jumping Jack Flash, studio is best but live they always ran with it and rocked out. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
I don't know how long the Rolling Stones were famous in London before coming to the united States, But I know that American kids already knew of them. The migration was amazingly easy -as one band member said in 1966 (Sue me for not remembering which band member)
Marianne faithful also did a version of Ruby Tuesday another stones song you should react to , but she went on to have a whole indpendent career- her voice is unique gravely but vulnerable ( female version of Rod Stewart) you could try the ballad of Lucy Jordan.
Jagger is 79 years old. WOW!!!! Is all I got. He dances with the queen of pop? I am 57 and cant even do my own laundry! (not like I have to, but that's not the point!)
Here a link to the song sung by the young lady Mick is referring to, Marianne Faithful. 1965. She was Mick’s girlfriend at the time. ua-cam.com/video/_phZZgkT1Jk/v-deo.html Marianne went on to have a successful career after overcoming a drug habit. Here’s a hit she had in the early 80s called Broken English. ua-cam.com/video/BgEesTrIycU/v-deo.html
Swift is an okay songwriter and can carry a tune but doesn't have the range an power of better artists from the '60s to '80s. Nice Stones song, thinking out of the box. That's back when Brian Jones was still in the band.
Marianne Faithful, the original artist to record this, was Mick Jagger’s girlfriend for about 3 or 4 years. You owe it to yourself to listen to her soft, innocent rendition too. And The Stones original version was much better than this one as well.
Sorry, Brittt, but the audio is pretty rough on this video, it's clearly a fan in the audience on their cell phone zoomed in, the song deserves much better. There is a professional video of this same performance on The Rolling Stones own channel, but unfortunately, this isn't a great vocal performance by either singer anyways, Taylor's pitch is off a lot of the time. It's always best to check and to use an artist's own UA-cam channel if you can, otherwise you're gonna get variable quality fan stuff, and for a first reaction you want to hear the song at it's best, which is always the studio versions for me.
If I’m not mistaken, they had other guests at this concert. If I’m right (or if I’m not), I strongly recommend watching the part from this concert (or a different one) where Lady Gaga joins them on stage for “Gimme Shelter.” She was wearing the the highest platforms I’ve ever seen danced in so dangerously, on stage. She was living life on the edge and taking no prisoners vocally. Honestly, Mick Jagger looked terrified of her and possibly for her, at times. A great watch.
I really do believe she picks the the worst ones not only that you notice how quiet the the song is compared to a voice the volume on The voice is at least twice as loud as the music
You may be cool. But you’ll never be as cool as having Taylor Swift, Tina Turner, Lady Gaga, and Sheryl Crow (to name a few) accompany you on stage. Stones 4ever
This is a odd version of a rolling stone song. Not bad but if you really want to get a sense of the band listen to “paint it black “. Taylor Swift shows off her modeling chops when she sing Trouble on the Victoria secrets Angels runway
They gave the song to Marianne Faithful. If I'm correct, Mick Jagger and she had a thing!!!! IMHO, Taylor Swift is not a good singer!!!!! Every show I've seen her do live was just awful. I'm sure when she records, there is autotune and all kinds of crutches for her voice. Mick Jagger is not the best singer but we have learned long ago to love his voice ... He's an ICON!!!
As lovely as Marianne Faithfull‘s rendition of this song is, this version is better. It’s hard to beat Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones.
To me, Taylor's voice is too high-pitched for this song. Probably because Marianne Faithfull's 1965 rendition set the standard. Faithfull's 1969 "Come and Stay with Me" was another beautiful song, which would have enticed any conscious young man to take up her offer. Unfortunately, much of her life and potential was destroyed by drug addiction, and it took her until the late 80s to regain control of herself.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yeah, bad rock. good rock isn't pitchy. She's a great writer for her style but not a great singer. I've worked with great singers. They know how to hit the notes and play the licks. I guarantee you they use aut0 correction or melodyne on every note of hers. Even her live performances. They just take the tracks recorded to the studio and put auto correction oh her voice. Hence, it sounds like she's hitting the notes live. They also have auto correction for live performances. It's not great though. She's just probably good at writing and singing her own songs, obviously. That's what she's famous for. It's not bad. It just says she spent her time writing music instead of copying music. She's just not the type to jump up and sing the Stones style of music.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Depends on what type of rock you're talking about. Rock covers a very broad area. Is Eric Johnson raw and rebeliious? Queen. Maybe rebelious but not raw. Stones were raw and rebellious. Taylor is a package. She's attractive, writes music and sings at an age where she sells. She's obviously very talented but she's not a jammer. A jammer can get up on the spot and sound like it was rehearsed and not miss a note. To be honest her performance with the Stones was amature. I've played with far better singers than her. I know what a good singer can do on the spot with a familar song. I don't know if they rehearsed once but it didn't sound like it. They usually at least get one rehearsal in earlier in the day in situations like that. Even the best will rehearse if they can. Everyone has to be on the same page.
To me Marianne Faithfull rendition of this song in her live performance on Hulabaloo in 1965 is the most touching. Yes I did, lol! Mick wrote it but Marianne owned it. What a beauty.
Thanks, I was just going to look up who recorded it first. Now that you said it I think I remember it.
Marianne's version was 1964 and the Stones finally did their own version in '66.
The Stones recorded and released their version in the US in 1965, and released ATGB in the UK in 1966.
It was given to Marianne Faithful in 1964.
Britt. If you listen to the 17 year old Marianne Faithful sing this song, you may see why they gave it to her.
The young lady was Marianne Faithful. Listening to her version is a must!
Please do the Marianne Faithful original.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Britt you should try some live songs from the 1960's and 70's too. That said this is very nice.
The young lady is Marrianne Faithful

Get off My Cloud. Time Is On My Side. Satisfaction. and many more
Mick Jagger has got moves
Marianne Faithful. And The Beatles gave The Stones their first No 1 Hit I Want to Be Your Man.
False. I wanna be your man was n 12.
Their first number one was "it's all over now"
@@alejandroalvarez9971 you’re right. It’s was a hit fir them when they needed one but not No 1. Good catch. Thanks.

So very cool, I haven't heard that song in so so so long iam going to put it on my music list right this minute 😊😊😊

After this performance, Keith Richards said of Taylor “Good luck girl - wish her well while it lasts,”
I notice you a good singer. Did you sing professionally
no i did not lol but thank you!
You should react to Marianne Faithful's version too.
If you can it's well worth listening to the Stones studio version on the album December's Children.
The studio version has more depth to it especially with the prominent violins and this sound like a karaoke sing along.
Now she can say she not only preformed with the Stones but that she kissed them all as well
so cool!
Britt, I think you would very much enjoy "Groovy Kind of Love" by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders. A typically short love song from 1966.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
I was at that show. I was thinking Buddy Guy was gonna be there. Buddy is the man so I was a little bit disappointed. It was a good show.
wow so cool you got to be at that show!
Please “Gimme Shelter” live with Fergie please! 😊
She sounds like a freaking Banshee.
Tallor Swift as a week a voice as Mariane Faithfull
Try Let Me Go by the Rolling Stones.

Taylor. GaGa. Springsteen. Mayer. I mean who hasn’t sat in with the Stones???😂🙏🙏

Swift ruins this song...listen to the Stones studio version
It was recorded by a cell phone 100 yards away , I doubt that it was a true reproduction of her voice
Still can’t see your videos well
This live thing isn't a good as the studio version. Also, Faithful's version isn't very good.
TS didn't really add anything to this great song.
Obviously, recorded from an audience member's iphone - sound quality is horrible, and not worth listening to.
That's trash compared to Mary Ann faithful
