The guitarist Keith Richards came into his hotel room late one night. He had been drinking and passed out. He woke up in the middle of the night still half drunk. The riff to this song came into his head and grabbed his guitar and played it. He actually thought to record it, and in the morning he played the tape. It was 30 seconds of the riff and 30 minutes of him snoring as he passed out again.

This tape doesn't allow the iconic riff to sound off like the original recording. It's usually ranked as the number one riff of all time. It was the first riff I ever learned as a teenager learning to play guitar back in the 60s. Fun song to play.

Two words best describe The Stones and Mick Jagger...THE BEST. 60 years later and they're still touring. mick will be 80 years old this year and he's got more energy than most 40 year olds. He's an incredible performer.
You've got to dig deeper into their music to appreciate how good they really are.

I have seen The Stones 16 times between 1981-2019. We used to say The Beatles want to hold your hand, The Stones want to burn your town. 😅 Thanks for doing this one, Britt. It was a good place to begin for casual listeners. There is nearly 60 years more of their music to explore!

If you're new to the Stones then you're in for a treat. They have written literally dozens of the greatest songs of all time.
I recommend listening to the studio version of 'Satisfaction' just to hear the iconic guitar riff. You can't hear it in this live version even though it is a great performance.
    Love your reactions BTW!

Drummer Mr. Charlie Watts (RIP), aka The Human Metronome, pounding out the beat, and Mick Jagger dancing around the stage with tons of energy and Keith Richards with his first really nasty Guitar riffs, brought a new sound to the world with this song. It got better the longer it went. Got to see them, finally, in 1989 on the "Steel Wheels" Tour, making my life complete.

In that period or decade, it was common and trendy for the crowd to stay serene and not jumping all over. It was the crowds' way of analysing and appreciating the music. And also because it was a studio setting rather than a concert setting. And also, it served so to avoid distraction in the event that the attention would go away from the talent/rockstars.
But regardless, even though the audience were still, they certainly had deep admiration for the talent.
Nowadays, people appreciate music by more physicality rather than the focus being primarily on the stars.

The recordings back then were not like they are today, and this is a Live show. I was lucky enough to see them live back in 1967 and again in 1969, when you could afford tickets to see them. The 60's were the beginning of changes in music and attitude, the Vietnam war was going on and the younger people were changing from clean cut to Hippies (even though they had been around for some time.

I saw The 'Stones way back in 1967/8, don't remember the year exactly. It was with a really big show. In the show was The Animals and the top group was Herman's Hermits. The Stones were great playing with the audience. They did an 8 minute version of "Satisfaction."
One thing to remember is that there is a difference in audience reaction between open outdoor venues and closed venues. People will be milling around a lot more in the outdoor venue and the sound will be different as well.

The answer to your questions of the crowd; Yes to all of them.
The longest running rock and roll band and one of the greatest that started in 1962 and part of the British Invasion of rock bands that RE-introduced blues-rock to the world and were big hits in the US along with the Beatles.
I have been fortunate to see and photograph them in several tours over the years ('72, '78, 82, 89, '94, '21) and each one was different and amazing. They put on some of the best performances ever and still with high energy and quality. In that time the band has only had a couple or so member changes due to death or leaving the grind of constant touring...Holding down the fort are Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards (OG guitarist), Ronnie Wood (guitarist from '75 onward). Their prime era was arguably the "Mick Taylor" days (1969 to 1975), the young guitarist who took over for Brian Jones who was fired and subsequently dies from an overdose, until Taylor was replaced by now guitarist Ron Wood. Jagger and Richards are primary song writers... and yes, if you watch Mick Jagger's performances over his career, you will see where they got the term "moves like Jagger".

The Rolling Stones are considered the bad boys of rock & roll. I grew up with their early stuff. My favorite era of The Rolling Stones is from the 60's British Invasion. I loved the "Flowers" album. They had a lot of great early hits such as "Get Off Of My Cloud", "Paint It Black", "Ruby Tuesday", "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Honky Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Gimme Shelter", "Tumbling Dice", "Brown Sugar" etc.

they get their name from a Muddy Waters' song, "MANNISH BOY", arguably, the BEST blues song ever. In a call and response section he shouts out things like "Im a hoochie coochie man" Im a full grown lover man" I am a Rolling stone". This was the late 50s and little Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and Bryan Jones were all teens soaking up all the Mississippi blues and RnB they could get and share with friends.

When I was a kid you’d be asked, “Beatles or Stones?”, and you were supposed to pick one. Stones, but why not both? Nope, you had to pick one. Most people at first said “Beatles”, but the ones who stuck around and developed their taste eventually said “Stones”. They allow their songs to develop naturally, going where they will and where they’re supposed to, like they do in “Gimme Shelter”, “Miss You”, and especially “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking?” I’ve been fascinated by them for over 40 years and still discover new things today in the music.

Being an old guy (Born 1964) Crowds back then weren't as open and free as today. That took till the Beatles and the early 70's. My first introduction to this songs was from movies about the Veit Nam war. As from the USA's start in that war from 1964 on I'm sure the "Stones" and there music was a large part of the "Armed Forces" radio staions playlist for the soldiers. Think about it, your a 19yr old kid thrust halfway around the world into war. You have no clue about anything other than serviving your yr in combat and getting home. Hi, that was a number one song in the top forty. The radio would play it twice an hour. Studio version sounds better. That song got me through summer school 8th grade math class with a good grade. I had my pocket-sized transistor radio in my back pocket with the earphone cord going up inside my shirt in the ear opposite of the teacher's desk. It's a favorite tune.

If you think that was catchy, check out the studio version. It's the song that catapulted the Stones to superstardom.

THE STONES arguably one of the best Rock Blues bands ever . This is not a good recording you might listen to a better one . Mick Jagger is a showman and they still tour today . Their music is so different and unique like a lot of groups but they are definitely up there with the all time greats . Try reacting to BROWN SUGAR . Glad you have found these guys .

Would you class the lead singer, Mick Jagger, as one of your PDC members. He is certainly a certified member of other peoples' PDC. As could be attested to by the thousands of gathered up used panties tossed onto the stage during their many live shows over the many decades of their performances.

"Satisfaction", is more of a song about rebellion. Sticking it to the man, who is getting in your grill with doing the right thing. Listen to the song again with lyrics and you'll get The Rolling Stones POV. And this song reminds you of "the beach"? Lol, sorry, Lol! JK, can't wait for more reactions! 😉🤘

Yeah that looked like early in their career. Back then audiences were more reserved which is why Beatles shows were so outrages with all the screaming girls. The Rolling Stones are one of those bands that just keeps going. A standard joke for my generation is, if it hasn't killed Keith Richards (guitarist for the Stones) it isn't going to hurt me. Keith has looked older than he is forever and done more unhealthy things than most. When you see someone wearing a t-shirt with a set of lips with the tongue hanging out, that's The Rolling Stones logo.

You might want to check out the official vid for this song...this is played a little faster than the original and it doesn't do the iconic riff or the song justice, the sound quality is pretty rough too.

Probably the most overtly sexual song on pop radio that year. When Mick swipes his hand in front of that phallic-microphone... still no satisfaction 😮
I suspect half that crowd was too embarrassed by the lyrics to enjoy it in public. Morals of 1965 (btw- BEST year of pop hits ever! )
Nearly 50 years after this video, Mick finally joined another band... please check out Miracle Worker by Superheavy - each band member earned gold & platinum albums from earlier efforts!

This "live" performance pales in comparison to the studio version. Of course, that's typical of most live performances. But this one is worse than usual. And there are live performances that blow the studio versions out of the water. But this is not one of those...

  • @Tampahop
    @Tampahop Рік тому +1

Please take this as constructive criticism, but live videos are generally not the best quality and certainly not for the 60's videos. Granted, there are some iconic live videos like Woodstock performances or Queen at Wembley stadium. The sound quality of this video was horrible and certainly didn't do the song justice. If you are going to do something like this though, you might consider doing the studio version first followed by a live version. You could also have someone pre-screen the videos to ensure that you have the best quality live version.
As a weird aside, Devo did a very strange cover of this song. You should check it out. If you want a really weird rabbit hole to drop into, you could check out how many artists have done covers of Satisfaction, from Aretha Franklin to The Grateful Dead, to Bjork and more.

Feels like you lost track of the song a bit. As someone said, there are better clips of live performances, or even the studio version. This is an iconic song, and the film this is from is worth watching. They weren't groovy - that's a whole other vibe - but they were cool, and still are.
