My husband Billy served 22 years in the Army we lost him 5 years ago. I also have a Son who is VA disabled from serving in the Army. Thank you to all the men and women who served for our country 🇺🇸🇺🇸
THANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU DONT KNOW YOU BUT THATS OK WE ARE ALL JUST PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE IT GOD BLESS
LOVE THAT DOGGIE CASTNER
Thank you for your families service to our Country, safety and freedom 🇺🇸
God bless your beautiful family and your service to America. I’m sorry for the loss 0f your husband that sure isn’t fair nor 9s it fair that your son 9s injured. When they sung some gave some and some gave all your family gave all. We appreciate you all very much f0r your sacrifices we owe you a debt of gratitude that we could never repay ❤️❤️
Thank u 🙏 god bless 🇨🇦
My husband was in Army National Guard for 26 years. Served 2 tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Discharged now due to Traumatic Brain Injury from mortar exploding close to him. He lost his battle buddy due to enemy fire. We are so proud and thankful to all branches of military. Blessed to all who served and made that ultimate sacrifice for us.
My husband served 21 years in the Army. He passed 14 years ago from cancer related to Agent Orange. My uncle passed at 19 while serving in the Navy on a submarine in World War II. My father & all my uncles served as well as my grandfather. Thank you to all who served! 🇺🇸
My Dad was career Navy. He was in for 27 years and retired for 43 hears. He said he never that he would be on the Navy's payroll for 70+ years. He died in Oct 2017 and we buried him in Arlington in Feb 2018. The Navy was his life and we are so proud if him.
Memorial Day is to remember those who gave their live for our freedom. Always thankful for our service men and women past present and future
My dad was in the Air Force 20 years and my three brothers were also in the military. Thank you all you served 🤗❤️🇺🇸
Isn't it amazing how fast a dog can capture your hearts and become part of your family?
My late Sweetie retired from the Navy with 27 years' service. He's been gone for nearly 17 years - does not seem possible. The wives and children also serve, and are proud of their service members for their service.
Memorial Day is to honor all those service men and women who never made it home from war. Veterans Day is for all those who have served or are currently serving.
Thank you for bringing this up. I was about to scream!
@@mariansmartt my husband is a Vietnam combat veteran and this drives him crazy too. In fact he told a man yesterday that he didn’t deserve their gratitude on this day as it was for those who died that we honor on Memorial Day.
Exactly! Armed Forces Day for those currently serving.
Memorial Day for those killed in action (Gold Star Families)
Veterans Day for those who served.
I was going to post this exact same comment. Drives me nuts when people confuse the observance of Veteran's Day and Memorial Day.
With all that is going on in the country, that is the least of my worries that people get this confused. They are having to rush through this and no way I would criticize Bert and Jessica. As smart as they are, I think they know. Nothing wrong for thanking people that serve.
Served 4 years in the marines and currently in the Army reserves on another 6 year contract. You guys are a true blessing and makes me truly happy you still keep the channel up
In Indiana some home gardeners put a black tarp over their garden just before it starts snowing . Supposedly it keeps the soil moist and when the sun comes out in the spring the black tarp warms the soil and melts the snow faster. Good luck with you gardening ❤️
I've seen this as well but then you loose the moisture you would be getting from the snow....? I thought it was more for preventing weeds but maybe I was off on that haha
Thank you to all the service men and women past and present! Your services and sacrifices will not be forgotten!
My husband served 2 terms in Vietnam in the Seabees a division of the Navy. Hope you guys had a safe Memorial Day. We honor all our military who lost their life serving our country to keep us safe. Look forward to your vlogs!
I served in the Navy for 4 years. God bless our men and women of the military.
Air Force Veteran here. 4 years. Remembering those who died for our country with heartfelt thanks. My brother passed away at a very young age by cancer caused by Agent Orange from when he was in Vietnam.
My husband is a Navy veteran he served 8 years..To our service members thank you for all that you have done and are doing. God Bless🙏🏽❤️
My son serves on the Space Force, my hubby served in the Air Force, both of my parents were Army (Dad retired at 21 years). We are seeing inflated house prices, and grocery prices. We are blessed to live in a rural area, and have a very small Amish vegetable/grocery store. The prices on local produce is wonderful.
My son, a Marine just transitioned out after 5 yrs. He got to travel over seas and lived in Hawaii where he then met a girl on vacation from Alaska.
He came home to Texas this month (for just a week) and then moved to Alaska. He says it's so beautiful but chilly.
I’m an old guy, 75. Been married to my wonderful wife going on 52 years. We both enjoy your videos. I served in the US Army as a paratrooper and served in Vietnam 1965-68. God bless you and good health to all.
My cousin, who was in the air force , and he and his wife are on a tour of Alaska as we speak - and they are having a great time! The fell in love with the sled dog puppies - we think they are going to end up with a furry souvenir!!
My dad fought in the Cuban missile crisis, he passed away 7 years ago from colon cancer, my mom and I miss him everyday.
My husband is currently serving in the Coast Guard. He has been serving 21 years this year and counting. Love your blogs and your family. God bless you all.
I thank your husband; many forget about Coast Guard, and they are VERY important.
Semper Paratus!!!!
My dad was in the Navy from 1958-1963 on an aircraft carrier, both of my grandfathers were in the military during WWII. Thank you to everyone that served or is serving and to the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice may we never forget!
I entered the Canadian Army at the age of 18 and retired after 42 years this past January
Down here in Texas the dealerships are charging an extra then thousand dollars on all vehicles because of shortages. The lumber had gone down slightly but then went back up. Everything is still going up and I’m sure that it’s doing that all over. Everyone should be trying to grow a garden. I’ve grown my garden in buckets on my deck before. Plant what you like to eat. I have found that a lot of the seeds I’ve been buying aren’t coming up. I have resorted to buy the seeds at the dollar store because they’ve been growing and only cost a $1.25 for two packs of seeds. God Bless
I found dealers are adding around 15% to the sticker on new vehicles, if you can find one.
Thanks for the info! We are moving in less than a month to Alaska!!! We actually just sold our home to a Veteran. We dramatically reduced the price of our ranch style home. We support our Vets. I wish more would. Blessings.....
I hope it won't be frying pan into fire for you.
Ak is unique. Only state with a false economy.
If they shut down oil production and shipping ends, you'll have to live a subsistence lifestyle like the western Alaskan Eskimo.
@@supercarakita1148 Yep. lived in AK for 20 years and my job had me fly all over the state down to a two seat Piper Cub where you had to start it by spinning the prop by hand :)
@@supercarakita1148 I was in Saint Mary's one winter trying to fly out in a Cessna 206. We taxied down the runway and suddenly the wind started gusting at 70+ MPH.
I had to get out of the plane and had to straddle the tail so the pilot could taxi back to the hangar so it wouldn't flip over. Was stuck in St. Mary for 3 days until the wind died down! :)
I served at Ft. Greely for one 4 year term. My dad served over 22yrs. He served in Korea in the Navy and in Vietnam. I have 4 brothers and three of them have served. And half of my mom and dads grand kids are or are in still.
Shortages are everywhere unfortunately. And we set off our elect heat pump with propane fireplace in the winter. Its outrageously high also. Garden area is looking good Jess.
You guys are just amazing! I love how well your family takes care of each other! It’s nice to see summer made it to Alaska! Prayers your great grandma settles in well…looks like such a happy and comfortable place for her to be 🤗
Bert you are so special , I love how much you care and share.Blessings to you all 🙏🙏💕💕
I served in the Navy for four years and was proud to serve. I really enjoy your family videos. Thank you.
I didn't serve but both of my brothers did. Air Force 10 years and the other, Navy for 25 years. So proud of my little brothers. Had to edit here. Have a nephew currently serving in the Air Force
It will be a challenge heating my tiny cottage home this winter. I am starting now to pay ahead on my account so maybe it won’t feel so painful paying for it as winter approaches. 😊❤️🇨🇦
My grandma taught me that trick! She said just make sure you keep a copy of payments so they don’t “magically” disappear from your account 🙃
Don't feel bad about your garden! You all were busy in the fall, we saw the vlogs! We haven't put our garden in either. It's not too late! It'll get done.
Currently serving. Navy, Active Duty (10 years now). I'm a Sonar Technician "First Class".
My wife and I have been watching y'all's videos since we lived in Everett, Washington back in 2018 and we stumbled upon y'all's channel after we visited Leavenworth.
Did a search on UA-cam on Christmas towns in the US / Bavarian towns and bam. Y'all's channel popped up.
Been watching ever since!
My wife also loves to say how similar I am to Bert hahahaha, she kills me 😂.
We love you guys! Always talking about y'all's house and how that's our dream build when I finally get out of the service!
Just a thought regarding firewood. Have you thought about either building or purchasing a small shed right next to the house? You can store dried wood in there and wood that is still curing can go in the big shed out back. That way, in winter, you don't have to struggle to bring firewood in. A decent sized shed (10x10) should hold 2 cords of wood, easily.
I was born in the territory of Alaska in 1952, while my late father was stationed at Elmendorf AFB. There have been so many significant changes in my home state in the past 70 years! Thank you, from a proud Alaskan, for sharing your lives and adventures! 😁🇺🇲
Where were you when THE quake hit in '64? I was in high school in Juneau.
Served during Vietnam War, in 2 G.E.E.I.A. Sqd.s...USAF, 71-76! An honor to serve and protect! Thank you for your kudos!! " Welcome home to all Vietnam vets..n.. all other vets coming home!!"
Happy Memorial day!
So excited your grandmother is coming. It's wonderful when families stick together.
My husband Doug served in the Navy for 12 years, brother-in-law David retired Navy, Father-in-law Dwight retired Army, nephew Jacob served in the Army, deployed to Poland. We are a military family who loves God, Country and Family. ❤️🇺🇸
We love our military people here in NYS. Our country should do more for returning military who need help returning to the states or who were wounded in previous wars. God bless
I Served 30 years in the Marine Corps. All tho I do greatly appreciate the Thanks for serving, just want to let you know that I appreciate the Support from All Who Thank me for my Service. OohRah. Semper Fidelis
We have a son who is in the Marines and a son in law who’s in the Army. Thanks to all who served and are serving.
Thank you for this Vlog!! Good afternoon from Ruskin FLA!! Dad served in the US Navy in Pearl Harbor and my other grand daughter is serving career US Army Intelligence!!! Sooo loved this Vlog and the intense beauty of Alaska!! I watch your Vlogs first each morning and again late at night after all the others have gone to bed!! Love your ways and the random acts of kindness!! Have a wonderful week!! Love from Ruskin FLA
Eight years U.S. Air force, eight years Air National Guard . God bless those who have gave their lives for our freedom.
God bless all our service members that paid the ultimate price for freedom. I've been in the U.S. Navy for about nine years. Thanks for supporting us.
P.S. Homer, AK has been my absolute favorite port visit so far in my career.
Thank you
Thank you for your service😊
Mike, thank you do much for your service to our country. Grammy from Texas
My dad passed 9 years ago yesterday. He was British Royal Navy during WWII and Merchant Marines during Korean Conflict.
I am a retired US Army Veteran I served 23 years in the service. I am also a VFW and American Legion member, still serving!
Proud Veteran❤️🤍💙🇺🇸. 18 years in the Army🇺🇸. 🙏 to all military familia who gave it all ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸
I'm the proud mom of a Marine in his 2nd year of his first tour. Thank you for recognizing their service and stay healthy and safe!
My father served & I am a military brat & proud of it. I was born in Germany while my dad was there serving in the US Army!
My dad was in the Air Force as a Air Transportation Specialist from the time he married my mom before I was born & didn't retire until he was a Master Sergent when I was 18. I literally spent my whole childhood with him in. The great thing though is that his first duty station was JBER here in Anchorage, & after 2 other stations in other parts of the country his last duty station was JBER since it counted as his one overseas station.
USAF 23 years, love the channel
I served 1 year in the Army and med boarded out, my husband served 8.5 years in the Navy . My father-in-law served 22 years in the Marines. My eldest son was in the Air Force as was my father. My daughter and son-in-law served in the Navy. And my youngest son is in year 16 in the Army.
We've had to cut back on certain things but it's not that bad. Hopefully we will all make it through. Love from the island of Guam 🌴💗🌴
Hi guys ! I was in the air force. I was in there for 7 years. I did ground patrol rescue. I was in Alaska for a while. This was back in in the 70 tys.then I went to Vietnam.
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada (east coast). I recently purchased a 2018 Kia Sorento two and a half months ago. The sensor went in it, and it is backordered. Where I get my car done has not yet heard when it is going to be in. At the time I ordered it, there was 16 sensors backordered, including mine. It also takes more gas, which I expected. As of today, our gas is $2.04 per liter, I am not sure what that would be per gallon in the US. I am glad that I got the SUV, especially for the winter. Our car lots are like where you are at. The lots are empty. Anyway, hope great grandma has a safe trip. Love you all.
God bless all the people who served in the military !
Hi, My daughter is currently at Ft Wainwright. She has been there almost 3 years. She is MOSJ- MEDDAC. I visited her in Fairbanks and places in Alaska last summer. Loved Alaska.
Thanks for all the tips, they are welcome. Things are just going up and up everyday. Can't wait to see what's growing in your garden. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day. 😊😊😊😊😊

My son in law is a Chief in the Navy and has served 20 years so far. My 3 brothers also served 2 Navy, 1 Army🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
My Dad served 30 years in the Air Force and my father in law served 26 years and they are both deceased. We are a true military family and wouldn't have traded growing up in the military for anything! Thank You
Served 2 yrs in the Army, then another 20 in the national guard. When I was in 3rd thru 6th grade I lived at Ben Eilson AFB, my dad was in the Air force then 1975 thru 1979.
I am a veteran. Did 2 years Army and 4 years Navy active duty. 👍❤😁 I've been called a hybrid lol.
Love your comment when do family listen. Lol. My family and friends are the same way. You show up whether its a meal or not your getting water and a drink or soda and your getting fed whether your hungry or not. Lol
My son is still serving in the ARMY..He is stationed there in Fairbanks..Fort Wainwright..
Hi all my dad is a wonderful gardener and he does organic, every year he plants a huge crop of mustard and digs it into the ground when its ready for planting. He has an all year vegetable garden its amazing. Good luck with your vegetables and flowers
I heard that comfrey is another good plant to dig into your garden. It also has many medicinal uses.
Bert you need to keep that shirt off daily to get some color, I had to put on sunglasses to avoid the glare... LOL
15,000+ Steps, Mom was killing it for the day! Way to go
I am stocking up as the sales at Costco happen. Multigrain Cherrios are nearly $10 now. Feed birds during fall and winter and have cats so am starting to stock up on sunflower seeds and kitty litter. Kitty litter went up in price and there is a shortage. Sunflower seeds went up to. Every time a new shipment comes in the price goes up.
Hi Somers , looks like that garden will be in , no time at all. Looks great! I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran, served 8 years.
Jessica, Think BASIC.
Flour, yeast, sugar, oil, lard, white rice, beans , salt and please at least a year supply.
Include enough for your in-laws.
Get Safe and ready meals too about 750 for a 3 month supply. Lasts 25 years.
Get some chickens. About 20.
Good luck.
Please thank your mom for her service. I am so thankful for the freedom that they have fought for. God bless you all in everything that you do.
Armed Forces Day recognizes Service Members currently in Uniform. Veterans Day recognizes Service Members who previously served. Memorial Day recognizes Service Members who never made it out of their Uniform. It's a solemn day. I am honoring 2 Uncles I lost during WWII and 4 cousins I lost during Vietnam.
Hi There Somers Family"Happy Peoples" and little fur baby🐕 So glad it's time for a video from you. Its nice that your parents live close by so you can lend a hand with your grandma coming to Alaska. There are shortages and definitely price increases. My daughter makes sure to buy gas for her van when it gets no lower than a 1\2 tank cause it costs so much. Her fuel for that half tank is what it used to cost for 2-3 weeks of gas. So we've limited our trips out only when absolutely necessary. Hope your garden does well for you guys this year. Hope you enjoyed the Memorial Holiday🇺🇸 God Bless You LuvYa! Bye from Ohio... Looking forward to your next video
Idea for the future: If you have trees on your property and burn wood, maybe down some trees to dry out for the future. With shortages everywhere, it would seem this is not going to be over for quite a while and it may mean the difference between staying warm or not in a year or two. Plan ahead a few years and start to dry out your own wood.
The trees on their property would not burn well as a hard wood and soots up the chimney.
@@badgerpa9 there is a liquid product available to spray on wood used in a woodstove or fireplace. As the sprayed wood burns it diminishes and cleans the carbon soot accumulated in the flue.
@@vickimeyers2672 Is it free and available to all?
@@badgerpa9 We have a ton of cottonwood on our property, but it does not burn well at all. We need to burn birch and spruce.
@@badgerpa9 Thank you for the answer I was wondering this as well but wasnt sure if they could burn those trees.
My daughter and son in law are stationed in Fairbanks at Wainwright now. He jas 2 more years left before 20 year retirement. They love it there!
I pray for all of us to stay strong and just try to be kind to each other. We can always make it through together.
I have family there in North Pole, Kenny just retired from the Air Force there. They have 3girls and they love it!
A nice Tuesday Vlog. Burt, you're always 2 steps ahead of things. It's odd not seeing Snow...lol
A friend's son is currently in Fairbanks for the summer for an internship before starting grad school in the fall. Told him to watch your videos and look for you out and about
Us Army 3years, that Garden you're going to need it with all the prices going up
Your heating oil is approximately 7% more expensive than here in east England. However, this is comparing your 300 gallons to my typical order of 500 litres (132 US gallons*). Some householders in the north of England have reverted to using coal in open fireplaces for heating their homes, because coal right now is cheaper than any other fuel. We still have 77 million tons of coal in the ground in Britain.
* Note that a US gallon is a smaller volume than an Imperial gallon.
Great video again. Wood for winter is so important, your so right. I live in the UK and have a log burner too and have been ordering lots of logs for winter as that price will sky rocket come October. As you said winter is coming and being prepared is so important.
Father in law retired from AF, husband served 6 years, 2 sons currently serving in AF and 2 sons serving in Navy. 🇱🇷
Don't worry about us. We are fine here in Palm Springs Calif.
Worry about yourselves. All the toys you have, total waste.
You know its not the falling . Its that sudden stop .
you all are going to have a big surprise real soon !
My husband served 27 years in the Army retired Lt. Col he is 92 years young and very much able bodied.
My husband served in the Air Force in Galena Alaska in the early 70's. We were able to return late August 2019 to Alaska. It's so beautiful there.💕 We are heavy into planting garden here in NE Ohio too
Was 91 today! Rain the next 3 days and dropping into the 60's. 😱 Thanks for sharing your lives with us. Blessings to you and your family 🙏
Right now I’m sure your biggest concern is staying comfortable in this heat. 80 degrees in Alaska is uncomfortable compared to the lower 48.
Every thing gone up here in the uk, gas and electric is shocking plus petrol and diesel, get building Bert, We could do with a Bert here in the Uk, your such a kind family x
Hello Somers. I served 20 years in the air force during my time I was stationed in Alaska 3 different times. Elemendorf afb from 78-81, then elieson afb from 83-87 and elemendorf from 91-94. Then after military retirement I started civil service from 1996 - 2016 and retired the second time. So 20 active, 2 1/2 contractor in Germany for the air force, and 20 years for the air force as a civil service. The wife and I plus the kids picked wild blueberries for blueberry pancakes. In fact I was back in Anchorage when my spur eruption. Loved the entire time in Alaska. And thank you for thinking of us old soldiers that served.
If you visited the Burger King in Elieson AFB, I was the Manager from 1988-1991.
@@leed119 sorry I left elieson in 1987, I hade to do a stretch in New Mexico then a year in south Korea before coming back to Alaska. The base has changed a lot since I was there. The housing building that I and my family lived in on Polaris street is now gone. And sorry to say Burger King was not on Base at that time. The one thing I think I miss the most is bar-b-q steak in the dead of winter the best tasting steak was cooked at -30° below zero boy did I get a lot of looks from the neighbors. Then the next year I seen a lot of my neighbors out cooking on their grills. Yes I do miss those days. Now I am an old man almost 66 in two months. Sorry to take up so much of your time. Enjoy the videos. P.s. we didn't have round a bouts in north pole and Santa's house was quite a bit smaller.

Did you see my comments on how to make your own chicken soup by buying the large dehydrated broth when Bert couldn’t find the chicken soup on the shelf? Just add two hot water at your noodles and chicken simmer a little bit and there you go have any kind of soup you want
Happy Memorial day. A day for those who died for this great nation
I love that you are so encouraging, and caring! Thank you!
