It’s always entertaining to watch the faces of those he’s on stage with. Many of these are amongst the greatest vocalists in the world themselves, but they still look at him in awe and amazement when he cuts loose. The man is so incredibly gifted and it’s great to see that he’s aways used that gift for God’s glory when he could have gone other directions.
I was just thinking the same thing! I always look at Jason Crabb's expression and appreciation for David's vocals, even after he's known David for so long and know his capabilities. Jason himself is an excellent and anointed singer!

Watching this in 2024, I can't understand why people think that your voice won't change when you sing at the capacity and frequency that David sings at, and the number of years he's been singing for, it's inevitable BUT he's still got a PHANTASTIC voice one of the best I've ever heard at age 54. He's trained for this inevitability and can change arrangements sing lower etc to cope and can still hit the highs when necessary. He's just the best male vocalist I've ever heard.😍
I think David Phelps is one of the greatest vocalists ever! He has perfect pitch, perfect diction so what he sings is understandable, and heart-felt emotion.
Phelps originally sang opera. Bill Gather recruited him so to speak. God called him I definitely believe.
He has said in interviews without the training he has had, he would’ve lost his voice. Even in his 50’s he’s singing what most men would’ve lost in their 30’s and 40’s. Amazing!!!

Better at what? Range, chest, head, mix, falsetto, transitions, breathiness and softness, weight and roundness of the sound, dynamics and nuance, performing, pronunciation? Or something else I haven't included?
Singing is more than low and high notes.
I was at a concert in 2019, and he hit the "Oh Holy Night" note!

My daughter and I saw David Phelps live November 2021. He can still knock it out of the park. He was fantastic. My daughter is 17 and she was astounded. It was amazing seeing him live.

In the first song, Guy hits a big Bb and sustains a beautiful A note in harmony with David. Guy is sometimes over looked but he has a huge voice, beautiful voice!
Guy looks like a number one hillbilly who was in Buffalo Bills Wild West Show.

I have watched rehearsals, and Bill is always pushing him to take the lead and be heard. David is very humble.
His voice is just divine.nothing more nothing less.Greatest singer.
What a gift!! But you need to hear him live to make comparisons because of the differing mikes, acoustics, and the compression algorithms that are used by UA-cam, Google and Amazon. Plus some nights you can just do more with dynamics and vibrato than others. I think he is more judicious in use of those high notes today and that makes him even better stylist, which is his own label. May he continue blessing us with his efforts.

O Holy Night 2000 his most inspired performance I've ever heard! Never heard the 1999 Battle Hymn, that was great also. His voice has lost a bit of suppleness as he is now in his 50's but that's to be expected. Still my favorite singer and an outstanding voice to envy!!!

Just curious how's that working out going from that low to high? That looks like it would really be a challenge and lots of practicing and then trying not to strain vocal cords taking baby steps. I sing pretty high and can hit C5 quite a lot but holding it I have to work on. I've never sang base but if I had I know it would be a challenge.

Well i'm not really a bass singer. I would say I was a baritone that knows bass lines. I used to sing around 2nd octave when I was younger and it was fun. I used to have a clean deep bass voice specially EARLY IN THE MO0RNING. lol. But when I saw David Phelps for the first time on UA-cam singing Alpha and Omega with GVB, it inspired me. So 10 years ago I started doing research and thought myself and practiced EVERY DAY. I was able to increase my range a little bit higher around C4 to G4 (with strains lol) so I started singing Baritone in a quartet and IT WAS AWESOME! Then I worked my way up to tenor. It was hard I admit but with proper vocal exercises, avoiding bad stuff (sweets, nuts, cheese, cold beverages, etc) and learning healthy techniques such as Breath Control, Chest/Head Dominant Mixed Voice, etc, I was able to do it and it's getting better everyday! It's truly a blessing from God. Recently I just did Mary did you know? by Mark Lowry, tenor part which is C5. It was so clean and seamless I was so shocked. lol. Right now, I can hit all 4th octave notes in chest voice with ease. I can sing C5 with chest dominant mixed like David's but not everyday. I can sing C#5 to C6 with headvoice.
It was hard for me but I prayed a lot for this. And everytime I hit those notes I always say "Thank you Lord". My voice is a blessing from God and I'll always use it in spreading His gospel through singing.
I first heard of David Phelps when I was 8 and at first I wasn’t a fan. I then heard him again when he sang O Holy Night in that green sweater. I was 11 I think. I’ve been a David and GVB fan ever since. I turned 32 on January 22nd.

To me, David is incomparable. I have followed the Gaithers religiously since 1995 & introduced my youngest sister to their music & ministry a couple of years later. I have seen David perform in person 3 times (2005 at a TBN taping in Santa Ana & 2011 & 2012 at Gaither concerts). My little sister
& her family moved to TX from CA in 2006 & she has been blessed with seeing David & the Gaithers many, many times, including one of his concerts at his home in the barn. She has also been to several of Guy’s concerts. I have watched many other videos of vocal coaches giving critiques re: David’s voice & high notes. Just astounding; truly a gift from God! ❤

Over the years many singers lose their voice. They can't hit the notes they did when they were younger, or they can't hold the note for as long and their pitch is a little bit off.
I can only imagine that there is a painting somewhere of David, just like the one of Dorian Grey, because he is as good today as he was when he started.

We all can give our opinions but the fact of the matter is that his singing is a gift from God for His glory. David inspires us to love of God and he obviously believes what he is singing, which makes it that much better. I thank God for this amazing talent and faith, which is an example to us all. It’s not fair to compare because we all get older and don’t even look the same as we did when we were younger. In my humble opinion he still kicks buns!!!!
