That "more pen" part is so truuuue 😂 I'm 4th year Pediatric Resident (Finally!) and Everyone makes fun of me during my On-call because I bring a small Travel Suitcase "on Wheels" 😅 I bring a lot of stuff with me (including a blanket!) just in case something goes wrong..
I’m not in the medical field, but I am currently a SAHM, I find that bringing a few sizes of plastic zip top baggies is essential for messes (dirty scrubs), and protection (phone saver) and to keeps things organized! I keep some wipes on hand too, because you never know when you’ll need them! We love your videos! My little boy always asks to watch you. ☺️
Have watched many of the vids here what a bright scintillating personality this Doc has a real joy to listen to and learn a little about life as a Doctor
Watching all of your videos I understood how much you are satisfied and love your job as a doctor you are really a great inspiration.........please keep inspiring us
Hey - thanks for reaching out! I got my purse from Roots (also very Canadian!! 🇨🇦 haha)... although I actually bought it at Winners. I love it because it's so light and easy to clean!
In Sweden people working in any kind of care have work clothes (that they leave in a locker in a changing room in the hospital when going home) with at least two BIG pockets on the top and usually big pockets on the trousers as well, where they keep everything (multiple phones, stetoscope, notebook, medical tape, scissor etc). Sometimes some countries seems so old-fashioned. A really postive thing with your working clothes though is that they don't look as formal as the Swedish ones does.
I horde pens so when I go to the hospital I clean out my pens and give them to the doctors - they all love me for the rest of the night. I live about 45 miniutes form you - but some of our local patient transfer companies give out pens with clips on the top so you can clip it on your keys
Great video! Can you pleassseee make a video about things you bought before starting residency? I.e new aid books, new medical equipment, a uworld subscription? I start soon and I'm a little confused on how to be prepared as much as possible. Thanks!
I am only a few videos in to your channel, and I already really enjoy it. I love your enthusiasm and wonderful personality. It also helps that you are also really cute. I also really enjoy your violin intro and I think you should make some more videos of you playing the violin.
I really liked your video! I'm a medical student in Mexico and I find it very interesting to watch how different and also how similar is the medical experience in other parts of the world. I don't know if the hospital would provide it, but I would take a toothbrush and toothpaste with me for after eating :)
Thanks Naomy! I'd love to hear about some of the differences/similarities you see in Mexico! ok two comments about the toothbrush... I think I'll have to upgrade from my minty gum hehe
How freakin cool! I LOVE hearing my fellow Mexicans in this field! Makes me so proud!!! no matter the race, of course. You both will be super successful and great doctors! Saludos de California 💜
I’m not a doctor but I agree about the scrubs. I was having a severe allergic reaction and what of symptoms was nauseous, needless to say after the nurse giving me the medication wi was supposed to take, I threw up on her. Me being a Canadian I apologized about 100 times. Still feel bad about it.
This made me laugh. I thought I was an overthinker and -preparer, but you have me beat. I also recently saw another medical youtuber talk about his kit for call shifts - literally underpants, socks, deodorant, toothpaste + toothbrush. The end. =)
Do you ever feel dirty or like you need a shower after coming home (dirty as in you HAVE to take a shower and change clothes asap after returning home) or after touching things that have been at the hospital?
Wow I am surprised that so many things all fit into your backback. You are wise using a backpack because you can put the backpack into the washer and add desinfectant. With a leather bag this would be a different story. By the way, lip balm makes the lips only temporarily better but dryer on the long run. There is plenty of information on the internet.
Great video! 5 years later I’m guessing you are done with your residency now. lol. I was curious about the purse that you kept your small guidebooks and pens. Did you carry the purse around like someone who wears a Fanny pack/hip pack/belt bag (so many names for the same thing 😂)?
You may have mentioned this in another video but why do hospitals still use pagers (as opposed to any other consumer or specialty telecom device)? It seems like such an outdated piece of technology for such a critical industry.
I was wondering this also, at hospitals I’ve done clinical at they have little mobile phones with unique numbers so you can call other employees directly
Some of my friends bring their own sheets/blankets when they're on call. I wanted to see if this was a common occurrence internationally, but it seems not! 😂 Best of luck in your residency ❤️
Yeah it's always freezing in the call rooms 💔 I tried bringing my own blanket a few times and it does make a difference in comfort level, but I feel self conscious carrying a huge duffel bag full of blanket when I'm walking in to the hospital
Yip. There is nothing worse than starving on a night shift and not having something to eat. I also keep granola bars in my lab coat pocket for the times that I cant eat at all. Good ideas though. :)
I doubt I'll get a reply because I know this is an old video but as someone with anaphylaxia caused by nuts being anywhere close to me or people that have eaten nuts close to me how do you prevent cross contamination after eatting them (aside from general hand hygiene) and would having someone in your care with a severe allergy affect you eatting them?
I did a BSc in Physics decoded I am more interested in medschool. Do you think I could get in? I didn't take any O'Chem but I had a high GPA. Do you think it is possible?
Damn so excited to graduate nursing school next year and apply for a doctorate program, I know nurse practitioners have a lot of differences compared to medical doctors but I just can’t wait to be at the same level as you!!!
Im 17 rn but im literally been binge watching your videos throughout the night YOUR LITERALLY MY NEW INSPIRATION 😂😍❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lol
I knooow I found it so funny 🤣🤣
That "more pen" part is so truuuue 😂
I'm 4th year Pediatric Resident (Finally!) and Everyone makes fun of me during my On-call because I bring a small Travel Suitcase "on Wheels" 😅 I bring a lot of stuff with me (including a blanket!) just in case something goes wrong..
As someone who is often in hospitals, you've given me another perspective on how my doctors and the medical process works. Thank you for that.
The apple joke thing was cute 😂
as soon as you mentioned lip balm my lips were like "MOISTURIZE ME!"
Have watched many of the vids here what a bright scintillating personality this Doc has a real joy to listen to and learn a little about life as a Doctor
Watching all of your videos I understood how much you are satisfied and love your job as a doctor you are really a great inspiration.........please keep inspiring us
your descriptions about needing a second spoon and the pen with a clip on it. and the "small but mighty" lip balm. so funny!!
Glad you enjoyed it!!hahah the small details make all the difference!! 😂
I get super cold too! I wear yoga pants under my scrubs :) Very helpful when running to a code and the poorly fitting scrubs start slipping hahaha.
Ohh excellent suggestion!! Great idea when you get stuck with those awful scrubs that tie on the side, rather than in the front!
Hey there! Lovely to see a fellow Canadian in medicine on youtube! Where is your purse from (used on wards)?
Hey - thanks for reaching out! I got my purse from Roots (also very Canadian!! 🇨🇦 haha)... although I actually bought it at Winners. I love it because it's so light and easy to clean!
Violin MD thank you! I'm starting clerkship this month so just prepping! Good luck on the rest of you PGY1 year!

I love the way she says bag and tag ....LOVE IT❤❤💙

Watching ur videos make me feel like i can handle anything after seeing how hard you work at the hospital....♥️♥️❤️
You’re sooo awesome!!!
So awesome! i just found you and already watched 17 videos in one day, so entertaining 🚑
I carry the same stuff while on call haha ! good luck with your residency, dear !
You are TOO cute!!! Oh my gosh I️ love you!
How do you balance out your social life while being a Medical Resident ?
Ream A yeah I was wondering the same thing
Great video! Can you pleassseee make a video about things you bought before starting residency? I.e new aid books, new medical equipment, a uworld subscription? I start soon and I'm a little confused on how to be prepared as much as possible. Thanks!
Hello Dr. Siibhan, I like your interesting things in your Doctor's bag on call. You are a successful doctor Siobhan
I am only a few videos in to your channel, and I already really enjoy it. I love your enthusiasm and wonderful personality. It also helps that you are also really cute. I also really enjoy your violin intro and I think you should make some more videos of you playing the violin.

I feel this way too! Love watching medics in different parts of the world. It's what inspired me to start my vlog journey 😅
How freakin cool! I LOVE hearing my fellow Mexicans in this field! Makes me so proud!!! no matter the race, of course. You both will be super successful and great doctors! Saludos de California 💜
and a hairbrush.. my hair always decides to have a life of its own when i'm on call.
I love this channel so much you need merch
Thanks Emmi! haha wow I haven't thought about merchandise at all yet... maybe in the future!
So happy you replied I have always wanted to be a doctor
A pediatric endocrinologist to be exact hahah
I’m not a doctor but I agree about the scrubs. I was having a severe allergic reaction and what of symptoms was nauseous, needless to say after the nurse giving me the medication wi was supposed to take, I threw up on her. Me being a Canadian I apologized about 100 times. Still feel bad about it.

These videos are so entertaining to me! I want to become a doctor so it's fun to see what it's like in the real world.
How about trying one of them 24 Hours MRE Rations !! They sure give soldiers all the necessary nutritions for a day.
I love your videos so much! I'm a nurse in Australia and wanting to go on to do my MD. keep up the posting! Xxxxx
Doc, I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Do you ever feel dirty or like you need a shower after coming home (dirty as in you HAVE to take a shower and change clothes asap after returning home) or after touching things that have been at the hospital?
the pen on the lanyard is what i do as well !!!! super helpful
Extra pens and extra scrubs are A MUST!
I love you so much. If I watch you more I'm going to choose medicine😂
You should also bring a small blanket. When you have you have to sleep there.
Pagers!!! Woah throw back lol. It's 2018, time to upgrade to smart watches or something!
What a smile you've got! ❤
I thought you would have extra hair ties in your bag
Haha good point!!
I totally agree considering being a girl Darcy with really long hair always wanted to have it the hair ties with you
You are funny 😆
Great video!!!your my motivation.🇬🇩from Grenada....I’m coming to the USA for college soon.
I need an updated oneee
Great video! 5 years later I’m guessing you are done with your residency now. lol. I was curious about the purse that you kept your small guidebooks and pens. Did you carry the purse around like someone who wears a Fanny pack/hip pack/belt bag (so many names for the same thing 😂)?
keep it up gurll 😍😍
aw thank you!
You look like talking like crazy,,😂😂🤪🤪
I just found your channel and I love your videos!
Thanks Shan!
How meny steps do you walk in a day?
Im so obsessed with your vids
Don’t worry your phone won’t spontaneously combust unless it’s a Samsung note 7 but if it is RUN!!!!
Couldn't you get a set of Scrubs from the Hospital if you needed them? Have a great day and also that you kick butt on your Tests this weekend!
Hey I have an idea you can just walk with portable power bank in your hand just in case your phone dies down
You want to McMaster? that’s my dream medical school after I’m done my bachelors of kinesiology.
Hi Alexander - thanks for stopping by the channel, great to hear from you!
yes
You may have mentioned this in another video but why do hospitals still use pagers (as opposed to any other consumer or specialty telecom device)? It seems like such an outdated piece of technology for such a critical industry.
I was wondering this also, at hospitals I’ve done clinical at they have little mobile phones with unique numbers so you can call other employees directly
I’m very intrigued by the facts u brought spoons and not forks
My solution one the two spoons issue is to lick it off really good 😊
Some of my friends bring their own sheets/blankets when they're on call. I wanted to see if this was a common occurrence internationally, but it seems not! 😂 Best of luck in your residency ❤️
Hi Zooba! oh really?? no i've never done that but I do often get cold in those call rooms so it's not a bad idea!!
Yeah it's always freezing in the call rooms 💔 I tried bringing my own blanket a few times and it does make a difference in comfort level, but I feel self conscious carrying a huge duffel bag full of blanket when I'm walking in to the hospital
hahah I can imagine!! sometimes I actually go and get a warm blanket as I'm heading to my call room... truly the best feeling!
Yes, I fall asleep around 4am when I don’t eat nothing during night shift.
Hydration/water/drinks?☺
Why didn't you pack up the violin? ;D
just going through all of your videos while I do my homework ^..^ New sub
Interesting! What about a water bottle?
Where's the neck pillow to take short naps?
I’m a doctor in Brazil, we have to bring our own sheets and pillows if we wanna take a nap lmao they won’t even give us that lmao
Question: so do you actually have to live in the hospital for a while sometimes??
Why don’t they wear white coats? If you are in the ER. Seems uncomfortable to be wearing a purse all day or when you are on call etc
Yip. There is nothing worse than starving on a night shift and not having something to eat. I also keep granola bars in my lab coat pocket for the times that I cant eat at all. Good ideas though. :)
Can you bring plum instead of the apple.
I’m sorry I’m new to your channel , but what exactly does a doctor do? And if a doctor were to work in a trauma center what would be different
Care to make an updated whats in my bag? 😊
Do you choose your scrubs color? Or does hospital tell you what color?
DIY with Katniss I think you get to choose!! But I’m not totally sure on that!
Wish you luck.
I am 10 but honestly want to be a doctor because I watch her
Love your videos 💕 just wanted to ask what stethoscope do you have?
I doubt I'll get a reply because I know this is an old video but as someone with anaphylaxia caused by nuts being anywhere close to me or people that have eaten nuts close to me how do you prevent cross contamination after eatting them (aside from general hand hygiene) and would having someone in your care with a severe allergy affect you eatting them?
What kind of shoes do you wear? The purple ones, look so comfy and I've been trying to find shoes that don't hurt like crazy!!!
Skechers is perfect
Do you get your own personal pager???
Good luck
do you doctors get cars with lights and sirens on i know some doctors do if they go to an mva or rtc
Beautiful hair
Are you in Canada ?
Yes, she is! ❤️😊
Do you keep gloves with you
1:19 an apple a day keeps the doctor awake?
Weird question I'm about to go into med school how do you deal with your period
I'm just assuming this! (Btw I'm also a girl)
Deal with it like normal! Try not to get stress, because if you do you'll bleed like crazy
I did a BSc in Physics decoded I am more interested in medschool. Do you think I could get in? I didn't take any O'Chem but I had a high GPA. Do you think it is possible?
How many hours of rest do you say you get in that 26 hour shift?
Damn so excited to graduate nursing school next year and apply for a doctorate program, I know nurse practitioners have a lot of differences compared to medical doctors but I just can’t wait to be at the same level as you!!!
Kendyl Bobbie “at the same level”
How much stuff for your job do you have to buy?
so 26 hrs seems a little odd, why is it 26?
food. i understand
What about a tooth brush/face wash i can understand not bring face wash. Buy tooth brush is a need
No water? 😁
Ok dr Siobhan smart phone can't swim
I wish you luck.
Ah! An off brand charger kills your iPhone! They don't work on my iPhone at all anymore.
