Saw this cheap and was thinking of getting it so glad ya have covered it. It looks bad and like ya said the write up is deceiving. I'm gonna pass on this now. I'm thinking of getting the game another world which is the one from years ago that's been freshened up graphically. It looks a bit like The Way but this came first I think. It's got mixed reviews from others I've not seen if you have reviewed it. It seems to be good if ya into that kinda game and have patience for multiple deaths while ya work it out.
Yea its not great Matt. Another World on the other hand is fantastic, I played the OG on Sega Megadrive and this remaster is good, it allows you to switch between old and new visuals and its a hard game but a lot of fun. You should check out the Flashback remake too, it has issues but a run little blast from the past.
@@SwitchStars ok cool cheers I'll check em both out nice one. Did ya see the reigns game of thrones game that's good on offer now like 1.80 it's got the music from the show and is a choose ya own adventure type game.
Based on the visuals and the fact that the studio only has one game on steam, I'd guess that this is someone's first real game/passion project. So assuming that's the case, there's an impressive amount of ambition and creativity on display, hopefully the dev/devs improve on the polish/testing side of things
No doubt it was, I just think there should have been more testing done on the game, many of the things I Identified were not major issues on their own but all together they spoil what could have been a great game. the controls, respawns and terrain are all things that could have been resolved quite easily.
@@SwitchStars what puzzles me is why they would put what’s clearly a huge amount of work into this game, then not do the comparatively minor work of testing and tweaking it
@@SwitchStars Hello. I'm a game developer. I tested it a million times and spent two years working on it. It's easy for you to say that everything is simply done. There were more than a thousand errors, each time the project broke down. I had to rewrite everything from scratch many times. You are not an expert in game development and do not have the right to say everything is simply done
I never said I was an expert, the things I mentioned were simple things to have fixed. The controls could have been bound to different buttons, the respawns could have had the enemies moved from around them and issues with the terrain could have been resolved by moving the foreground items blocking view and distinguishing between terrain with collision and those without collision by using different sprites. If you dont like honest feedback and people identifying faults, do not make games, Its our job as reviewers to analyse the game and provide information about it as well as any issues we encountered.
Happy to help 😊 to be honest there have been a couple of close calls but it's been a while, I have mainly been picking up on some asset flips which are worse than Shovelware imo 😁
Cheers for review, think ill stick to Huntdown and Broforce. Seriously thinking about Rock n Roll Racing now part of Blizzard Arcade Collection. Havin a retro week got Capcom Arcade Stadium :)
It’s a shame. It looked like an interesting game, but it seems like its gameplay and lack of quality really lets it down. But I appreciate the review nonetheless.
The controls are so bad it’s virtually unplayable. Contra had virtually the same dynamic but controls flawlessly. Good looking game ruined by a overly complicated control scheme. Could I learn it? Sure. But I didn’t care enough to do so.
I agree Sam, that and the re-spawns were definitely the most frustrating aspects of the game and It could have been a fun little title but I was also not prepared to suffer the frustration in order to play through it.
Sadly I bought this on PS5 but luckily it has an easy Platinum using a cheat code so it wasn’t a total loss. Bloody awful game though, so janky and broken!!
@@SwitchStars Still doesn't negate the truly awful controls (who decided on those) and the terrible platforming. Glad it wasn't just me that had issues with the wall jumping etc. :)
Mega Man on NES has better run, shoot and slide animations then this crap. Was hoping for a Contra Hardcorps successor but nope. Why don't games now n days let you customize buttons it's so ridiculous.
A terrible review, makes the developer some kind of lazy in the eyes of the user. It is because of such people that indie games are considered mediocre games. We try to invest all our free time in our creations, but you don't understand that this is a separate type of game. We don't have companies where a lot of people sit and work on the game. We only have motivation. Not all of us are cool professionals. We can't fix everything at the click of a finger, but we try to make our creation better.
Its not a terrible review by any means, I described the game mechanics perfectly, highlighted the good points, those mainly being the visuals and explained the issues I had with the game and why I didn't play past the first level. I am a lover of indie games and completely understand the effort that goes into making them but if you're going to release a game and it has issues dont expect to get a 5 star rating and not receive critical judgement. You create the game but people spend money to buy the game and it is for these people that I produce honest reviews, take a look at the rest of my content, I give my unbiased opinions on games and always try to provide my viewers with accurate and detailed information on the games I review.
@@SwitchStars Long projects in which a lot of effort is invested do not give the proper result, they collapse in the development process. I understood this perfectly, I fixed it a million times, and still bugs are climbing. Do I have to fix bugs all my life now? It's easier to make simple games, all the cool developers did the right thing that they stopped releasing hits like before. It is better to sell the sandbox game and make more money on stupid consumers. Even my game with bugs was bought many times and people didn't like it. I realized that you can not initially try, still fools will buy
I understand, developers sometimes get too ambitious with their projects and that opens them up to a lot more work to get things working well. Having a unique game is much better than just another sandbox game but I think you have to tailor your expectations about the end product and your capibilities and limitations as a solo developer. If the game doesn't turn out quite the way you planned and has lots of bugs that reviewers like me criticise then take it as a stepping stone and learn from the issues you encountered to make your next game better.
@@SwitchStars Life is one. And one long project will not pay for itself. You need to eat something. The same Chinese who made the unfinished game got a lot of money. He understood that if you make a big project with a plot, then he will not earn enough to live on. That's how I see this job now. You make a wrapper and sell it quickly. Expect earnings on big games is a fairy tale. Until the remaining bugs are noticed, the game will simply be forgotten and will not be remembered, because these games are released in thousands per day
I understand what you mean, If you're passionate about game development I think you need to start small and dream big. Spending years developing a big game for a poor the end result is no doubt disheartening. Creating smaller games allows you to learn from mistakes and you don't feel like you've wasted years of your life it things don't quite work out.
00:52 that's quite the visual. the veins were nice touch.
Thanks 😁 I'm an artiste
I almost bought this last night. Looks great in screen shots. Had a feeling i should wait. Glad I did. You saved me some cash. Thanks 👍
Yea its not the worst game for the price but its certainly not great IMO, just a lot of different things that really put me off playing.
Thankyou for the review. Very informative. Keep up the great work mate.
Thanks Liton, glad I could help you out with it.
Saved me money again my man. Much appreciated as always !
You're welcome DOT 🙂
Can you recommend a similar game to this, but good? I'm new to this genre and bought this because it was cheap but wasn't impressed.

I know that's what I don't understand, its not like they were hard things to notice either, they are blaringly obvious in the first level.

I can't do that button layout 😥
You get more use to it after a while but it's just confusing and there's no option to change it.
I love watching reviews when they save me money. When was the last time u did a shovelware aka trash game?

@@SwitchStars I hate liers
Not a fan either 😊
I give it a week for this to go on discount for 99c for the rest of it's e-shop live like Agony
Yea possibly Daniel, it could have been really decent but a number of things spoiled it for me.
Cheers for review, think ill stick to Huntdown and Broforce. Seriously thinking about Rock n Roll Racing now part of Blizzard Arcade Collection. Havin a retro week got Capcom Arcade Stadium :)
No problem JR, Yea I really enjoyed Broforce. I liked the look of the Bliz arcade, I played Lost Vikings back in the day.

I hated the controls, deleted it after about an hour, waste of money and time.
Yea I didn't play past the first chapter Woodie.
I only did the tutorial and probably a couple of levels, the jumping issues really ticked me off, kept pressing the wrong button.
Same, I fell down pits quite often, the spawns were one thing that bugged me the most though.
did i really see a big hairy pair at the start of the review.
Don't know what you're talking about, one of the characters is a robot and the other is a woman. 😂

Yea I saw someone had made an easy achievement guide for it, so no doubt it will get sales from achievement hunters.
