Thank you Jeremy Clarkson! This song was included in his CAR YEARS program about the coming of the "Hot Hatchback" cars...specifically about the Heavy Chevy and the Lotus Sunbeam. Been wondering who recorded--especially since Jeremy mentioned "Rotten and Vicious" as a piece of poetic misinformation.
With one exception, your comment is right on the money. However, The Boomtown Rats, including this song and other cuts from "Tonic for the Troops," did get some radio play in NYC in the late 70s-early 80s on WNEW-FM and on WPIX-FM during the brief period that the latter had a punk/new wave format.
@nick1137 Because those were what was good in that time, as well as times around that too. For some types of music, this is still the style. It's about selling to the audience.
sick and tired of "experts" re-defining the boomtown rats as not really punk because of comments attributed to one "SIR" bob geldof talking about using punk to make them stars.geldof wa a big reason why the band split but they were very much a punk band early on-she's so modern, someone looking at ya,lookin after no one-all classic punk.it's a pity other members of the band, less self aggrandizing than geldof haven't been interviewed.then their punk beginnings would be better known
Wish we had power music like this now, so sad listening to the same people singing into mics and having their session players doing the music for them and having the cheek to call themselves a girl band or boybad 👎
great punk band initially, some great releases.used to see them in dublin with the radiators, the vipers, the sinners, rocky devalera, fit kilkenny and the remoulds etc etc.pity geldof started slagging off punk and denying they were a punk band.signs by they split with recriminations and he becvame everything they despised.twat.
I'm 17 and I adore Boomtown Rats. They are soo much better than the music we have today. The 70's/80's had some of the best music ever.
It's exciting for the veterans, and it's a tonic for the troops!
summer of 1978,good memories .ga ga ga ga.
the best
My fave band when I was in university. Geldof was a great front man back then. Their 1st 3 albums were great. Still listen to them.
Still a great song!
Great Find........1979
