    Imagine getting beaten by a gaming laptop in battery life. That is a huge L for Qualcomm.

      i mean the g14 basically has twice the battery capacity of the surface

    • @chrislyonm
      @chrislyonm Місяць тому

      @Rusty01 right. its so weird to say arm isnt doing much and got beat by a ryzen 9 when the same video shows that it kept up with a battery twice its size

    • @singhmp
      @singhmp Місяць тому +4

      @@Rusty01 My bad. I just assumed that it has 65+ Wh battery like all other snapdragon laptops.
      It has 54Wh, G14 has 73Wh. Definitely not half, but still impressive.

      well one of qualcomm engineer already debunk this. qualcomm actually did delivers what it promises. the big problem is that qualcomm doesn't really have much control over all third party apps and even windows itself. the whole point of windows it just, everything runs. perfect backward compability, but apple don't really care about backward compability, cause their focus are user expierence.

    Crimson, just want to say bingeing your channel is the reason why I bought the '24 4070 G14 to upgrade my aging base M1 16GB MacBook.
    I'm a coder first, gamer second and absolutely loved my M1, but I can safely say this is quite the leap in hardware.
    There are some obvious sacrifices that had to be made coming from what I'd say was one of the best thin-and-lights during its time, namely fan noise and battery life. A personal preference of mine is *nix over Windows, but it's not too much of a dealbreaker for me. That said, this is a very different class of laptop so I knew some sacrifices had to be made.
    I got the G14 32GB 4070 for $1500 USD, and for a do-everything that has an amazing screen and sound system, can actually game at native res (+ DLSS etc.), and pretty good everything else, I'd say I got quite the steal. Its replacing other portables and desktops, so it's a big win for me.
    I know the fate of this laptop may be replaced with a Mac in the far future, just because I very, very much like macOS as a development platform that you can still use on the daily without much tinkering (relative to Linux). But Apple gatekeeps that OS behind their products, which is a shame because the spec I want is $4000 USD; other than the unified RAM and better off-charger efficiency I can't say is an absurd $2500 hardware upgrade everywhere else. Tsk, Apple.
    Anyway, thanks Crimson!

      Im glad i could help your with your decision, thank you!
      It really is good at pretty much everything you throw at it (of course the battery life on the M-series macbooks is still unbeatable though!)
      It's by far my favorite laptop yet, and im excited for what they might do with it in the future :)

      Where did you get the G14 at that price?! 😭 I want to buy one too.

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  Місяць тому +2

      @@willyft5430 Best Buy is currently selling the G14 4060 for 1000-1100$ i think, and the 4070 for slightly more.
      I'm not from America though, so i dont have updated prices on that

    • @Invuska
      @Invuska Місяць тому

      @@willyft5430 Got it from BestBuy in the US. It was the Independence Day sale + open box (literally mint condition but was missing the charger) which knocked it all the way down $1468 without tax IIRC? When I saw that price I knew I had to get it, and while I had to pick it up 100 miles away I was like 'this is never happening again' lol. I was right though, open-box now is like $1800 for the 4070 :S
      Word of warning though, the charger for full wattage is not cheap and mine didn't come with one. You can get a SlimQ charger + adapter to push the full 180W wattage, but it can only push max 100W on USB-C and the full wattage charger plug is proprietary. So buying a charger for yourself might not be worth the hassle and cost for you. It was definitely for me though.

  • @Bizmops

    the battery size should be mention.
    g14 has 35% larger battery than surface 7.
    g14, when unplugged automatically turn off the gpu. so only cpu+igpu
    ryzen 9 8845hs vs x elite, x elite win in power efficiency arround 20-30%. and they are the same 4nm chip.

    • @crimsontechyt

      @mobeen369 It mostly does!
      I use a usb-c dock/dongle on the right usb-c port (which connects to the dGPU) to connect it to my monitor and keyboard/mouse/headset. Keep in mind that the laptop's screen is 16:10 and your monitor is probably 16:9, so icons on your desktop MIGHT get moved in rare instances, but that shouldnt be too much of an issue :)
      Other than that, it runs smoothly, and performance is great.

    Excelent video, thanks for the effort. But on performance tests, you're probably you're using the nvdia gpu. But anyways for the price, rog zephyrus is a way better product than any snapdragon x elite laptops in terms of performance, but speaking of battery and lightweight devices I think snapdragon x elite laptops are better.

  • @kylebelle246
    @kylebelle246 Місяць тому

    I wonder how a g14 with a snapdragon x-elite would pan out since according to qualcomm a dedicated GPU isn't necessarily out of the question. I feel like battery life could be killer on a device like that when doing non-gpu tasks and i feel you could even get 3-4 hrs of gaming targeting 60 fps 1080p (assuming games will be optimized to work better with arm cpu), yeah i know the GPU is what will be draining the most in gaming scenarios but its still a fact that current x86 CPUs use a lot of power while playing games. A g14 with 18-20 hrs normal use battery and 3-4 hrs gaming/heavy workload would be a dream

    Was the battery test video played in an ARM browser?
    This first generation of ARM laptop processors seems nice, but it will take time for the Windows ecosystem to be more compatible with 64ARM architecture. Software is the main issue now, but I have good expectations for the future.
    Also, laptop gamers with NVidea cards and ARM will be a fun combination in the future.

    No mention of settings or battery profiles, brightness, screen refresh rate, for the battery test. Running video alone, the Surface should technically last at least 13-15 hours. It would be nice if you can redo it with telling the user what settings you are using and also comparing the standby times.

    • @crimsontechyt
      @crimsontechyt  Місяць тому
