Nice, glad to see some other folks out there looking into these things. Also, one thing you should all know is that you can go into the tuner settings and get your Coach to make strategy adjustments more frequent for you. This 'can' help you play with the right type of force and strategy depending on a few different variables like how much time, the score, and what type of pressure your opponent is piling on. But you really have to be paying attention or you'll make a massive mistake. The last thing is this, you should be trying to read the offensive playstyle and defensive playstyle and adjusting countermeasures. But more importantly, you don't want to make the change and forget that the AI might adjust to your counter. There is a little back and forth with these settings during the game usually. You just need to be on top of it and keep positioning well.
Thank you so much for this man seriously. My record was 50-30 stuck in div 6 for the longest time. Now I’m 80-38.....this has made me a way better player. Again thanks man

Okay so basically, here are a few tips from me if you want to have good rush offense and good offensive scoring chances. Though I am not someone who plays online. 1. Do not take your attention off of your opponent's defensive pressure (I will explain why in a moment) 2. When on the rush, if your opponent sends several men after the puck carrier as he begins to cross the opposing blue line... if you dump to the opposite corner of the rink... you should have the advantage in getting the puck because normally your weak-side forward should be hustling. Then the other players rushing in can act as one timers and become viable options in front of the net because not everyone is in position yet. But you can also pass down the boards to your d-men and others. 3. When you've got the offensive zone established: Keep your eye mainly on the opposition, what kind of pressure are they putting on both the puck carrier and your passing options. If they're just sitting in the crease\slot then you do not have to move the puck around. In which case, the lack of pressure allows you to get shots from the point, use this. However, if they are putting between minimal and high pressure, your goal is to move the puck along the boards and keep pushing that puck around so that you drag the defense out of position to chase. *If you begin to notice several defensive players moving towards the puck carrier or they begin waiting near your other passing options... that is typically your best chance to make a b-line to the slot. Especially if it is your point man who has the puck... if the opponent is putting on high pressure and you manage to draw the forward player that is supposed to be covering your point man, you should have an uncontested lane towards the slot with your point man. Or if they are putting high pressure to cut off your point man from receiving a pass then he has pretty much opened up a hole for another forward player to move in to the slot* 4. *Overload* is really good with the first forward line up if they are players who have great deking and passing skills, and if your opponent plays high pressure against them you have a tendency to exploit that, but if your opponent plays really positional against Overload, you should have an easier time shooting from different angles around the slot. *Behind the net* is really good if your players are not the best at passing and deking, and it is good if the opponent likes to play high pressure defense and chase. The idea here is to dump the puck down the boards to the back of the net, allowing sort of a motion of move and pass along the boards. The goal here is to just like before, draw defenders out of position and exploit that to open up areas to move into the slot\crease or get onetimers. *Crash the net* is really good if your opponent's like sitting in the slot\crease, and in this particular case you should have 3 men up high near the blue line cycling the puck and shooting from the point. You should be looking for deflections, screened goals and rebounds depending on where you shoot from. Final notes... if you have the lead and you're in the last period of the game. The opponent team should begin to start taking more risks positionally and defensively, usually this stuff can be exploited in the break out ush and offensive zone and when trying to forecheck. People sometimes confuse this for 'ice tilt' but that is an entirely different thing all together.
two questions about this: 1) Is there a way to set these strategies as default for online play (and all games in general) so that I don't have to spend 2-3 minutes each time setting them? 2) is there a way to stop the AI coach from changing these strategies around during the game when I don't need them switched?
Your strategies are the same as mine except the cycle/shoot for the defensive strategies but great video. Thanks for the explanations on some of these!
how do i get my team cpu to get open for a shot. like if im behind the net my cpu just stands around and doesnt move. my team is never where i want them to be on breakaways.
Have you tried 1-2-2 aggressive? Seems like that would work good for what you're aiming to do. And you have the slider for energy/efficiency set to energy not efficiency...
Thanks for the insight. Just curious, if you are down by 1 or 2 goals in the 3rd will you start an very aggressive forecheck with ur D pinching and a full attack? I'd o find it helps me outa bit but I obviously get caught deep in the offensive zone when the other team finally breaks out.
“And that turned into a victory using my strategies, so that’s my take on why you should use my strategies, so now let’s get into my strategies.” Good vid tho
I've struggled the past two season on how to knock a guy off the puck back checking or when they are free skating. My guys seem to just get close and do nothing. I've tried to use a combo of a bunch of different buttons. Other players seem to just skate up to me and push me off the puck. Can you please help with this much appreciated
You need to push your body weight into your carve , for example if you’re carving left and chasing somebody you want to keep pushing the hit stick toward them with tiny nudges. Helps me to have my vibration on so I can predict the contact.
Sleeves got me creamed on here before I seen this I went back to ur nhl19 strategy and won 3-4 last night just seen this so going in for some wins now ur videos are the best on here for this game thanks again
Haha thanks! NoSleeve's strategies are good too, but they are way too passive. They'll work well against newer players, but I'm not so sure they'd fair well against experienced ones. His videos are "how to to suck less" after all, you have to be sucking first and then you suck less. There is no sucking here.
Adjust to how the opponent is situated some work while others don’t. Timing is key too. Sometimes tying up the opponents center is good cause the wingers will come in and take the puck.
Hockeyfan should the shoot slider really be at 10? I've done it anywhere from 1-3 and that worked good at time. I don't know how to tweak them that good though.
Hockeyfan I've been using it the past few games and it's nice, I'll keep going and see how it compares. Just trying to figure out the 4 of them, they're confusing to me.
I need some help, I am beginning to dominate online versus. How do I play in the leagues that are shown in your videos? With all time classic players? Is that under rivals?
Efficiency/Energy was all the way in the opposite direction in 19. Was there really such a drastic change or would you have argued for the opposite setting towards the end of 20 as well, when endurance was generally higher? Thanks for the great videos!
My thoughts on this slider have changed, its clear you want your players skating around more rather than standing still. You can see in my game against Josh (#2 player in the world video) that the energy was effective in playing defense and getting the puck back. If your players get tired too easily, you can tone it down a little bit or change lines but otherwise it's way better.
Played this strategy last night and went 3-0 in my 3 games I played. 3-0 disconnect, and two 2-1 games and the skill stick defence strategy creates no opportunities for your opponent
Hey mate, quick question to do with Energy/Efficiency slider. I understand having them all set to 10/10 is great for a full depth HUT team, but when it comes to versus, I found last year setting my top 2 lines to about 5/10 and bottom 2 at 10/10 let me keep my better players on the ice 75% of the time. I had great success in local tourbament. Do you think this tradeoff is worth it or would I be better off giving the lesser skilled players more TOI ?
The tradeoff is more about having all of your players try hard, if you don't want your top two lines trying as hard so that they conserve their energy and you can have them on the ice longer, then yes I say go for it. It is something that is far more important with lower OVR players.
How do you change strategies on the fly either mid game or after whistles on ps4? The advanced strategies not the basic line ones. Thinking like if you need to go from 1-2-2 passive to 2-3.
Try going Tight Point, your players will cover their man which means that people will only cross crease you if you move away from the person you should be covering.
Brianstormed I’ll try it out! I’m winning and losing games like 8-7 every time, haha. Thanks for the quick response, I’ll try tight point... what DEF Pressure would you recommenced?! Thanks again, love your content!
What strategy would make two ai player come to the puck carrier? I did this and the pressure but it doesnt seem like the pressure as much as my opponent amd it seems like they dont do nesrly as much on offense.
Idk i feel like contain puck makes the a.i. kinda float around and get confused. I've never had success with it. I actually matched up with yung gren and beat him using collapsing and high pressure.
Well you don't have to use all of the strategies, like I said in the video, tweak them and make them yours! The problem that I have with high pressure is that often times your AIs will leave their position too much giving the opponent easy onetimers.
Skill Stick, Autoback skate off, vibration off, pass assist 100% (but my pass assist isn't for everyone, it suits me best because it gives the best chance of my passes of getting to someone.)
Yes, because they are trying harder than normal out there. If that isn't what you want, then tone down the energy/efficiency slider a little bit.You gotta remember you have two more lines and they'll help regain the energy of your first two lines :)
Thanks for this video! Very informative. I do have a ? Though. I’ve watched a bunch of your gameplay on nhl 20 and even though you said what you said for offensive strat. I rarely see you behind the net. Is it not essential to the strategies for it to work?
Hey! Thanks for the question. This entirely depends on my opponent and if Im in the cycling phase of my offense in his zone. If Im playing against a weak opponent, Ill probably just score off the rush which means my players dont have time to set up behind the net. However, when I have been in his zone for quite some time, Ill always have one player back there to anchor the play.
Brianstormed thanks for the reply! Could you do a video on how to master puck possession? I struggle against aggressive checkers/pokers/etc in the offensive zone. AI doesn’t do that so my skill level sinks pretty dramatically against human opponents
Brianstormed you seriously rock. Any way you play some of your subscribers? Would love to have some fun getting by ass kicked, but also to get any tips from you from an eye test. I’m not a top player but always looking to improve.
you got a twitter account? never heard of you until recently but im picking up what you're putting down ... and definitely want to improve at HUT, ive always been an EASHL guy but ive gotten really picky as ive gotten older and i dont play unless i trust my teammates, so HUT/SB has been my main thang since 20 came out. keep up the good work... and ive played gren once or twice and when i saw him on tv a little part of me died seeing the face of the kid who spanked me.. lol...
Hey there! Yeah I have a twitter, it's @Brianstormed much like my UA-cam handle: twitter.com/Brianstormed . Thanks for checking out my videos! Hopefully I have all the right videos for you to be a step ahead of the game in HUT :)
I’m confused at how the AI uses some of these settings, since the settings control specific, “puck carrier” movements. When I play my AI would never carry the puck in or shoot because I would be carrying the puck. Perhaps I’ve missed an important part of the game. Is there a way where I can control players who don’t have the puck while my AI has the puck?
EASHL is tricky, but I would just have my strategies for my CPUs to be as passive as possible so that they are as far down as possible to play defense.
Im not huge on saucer passes. If you have a person with a high passing rating they will occasionally do a saucer pass on their own. The saucer pass itself is not as accurate, and harder to handle. I would only use it as a last resort to try to get a pass through bodies. Some players use it far more frequently and find better success with it. If you use it all the time youll find that your players wont receive the most basic passes sometimes.
I started using your strategies but I’m finding my players running out of energy really quickly even with my 88s+. Any ideas? I even turned energy down to 3/4
You can use your Dpad to update the strategies during the game. As for the energy problem, its a mix between getting players with higher endurance, managing your lines, and lowering that slider
That’s where I struggle I even have lemiuex who does have low endurance but the rest of my squad is pretty solid. Do you manager your own lines or let the game run its course? Also I know about the D pad but isn’t tight point one you’d have to physically go in and change? I’m just thinking of when you were discussing D men taking one timers and switching.
I only manage my lines after the whistle. To get to tight point and offensive/defensive strategies, you have to use the D pad and then press the square/circle (or X/B) buttons.
@@austin6959 u must be doing ur lines...u need to change the line energy meter down, on each single line. If u can't kepe those top lines going and they're red 9 mins in. Not good
I don't use off-hand players on wings and D this year. Cycling is too important along the boards, and your players can take one timers just as well no matter what angle they are. If you really want an off-hand one timer, you can just move with the puck around the player you want to pass to and they can get in position for that 1ter.
@@Brianstormed I will give it a try...but it seems that the cpu just reads my controller inputs, so it knows EXACTLY where Im going, and where my shots and passes are aimed at. How can I stop that? If I drop down to Pro, the game is waaaayy to easy.
Tell me please i dont know whether its from your video or no but is it any good to play 1-2-2 aggressive and 1 2 2 blue line full forcheck as well ? Or this one is better one
No, this setup is better. The only reasons why I would go with the strategies you mentioned is if I'm playing a puck ragger or down by a lot of goals so I need all my players to be pushing hard.
tip #1: peel back plastic from game cover and throw directly in dumpster tip #2: light dumpster on fire tip #3: don't buy EA Sports games ever again. Problem Solved!
This strategy is really bad, none of your players ever play defence and they just leave the defensive zone as soon as your defenceman picks up the puck
Sorry it was more of a general question. I've used your strategies the past couple seasons and work great so thank you. I'm having trouble knocking guys off the puck, like when your back checking and come up behind him or chasing around your own zone. My guys don't seem to push the guy or anything. Is there a special sequence I need to use with the body check stick or special direction or use another button with it? Probably a simple solution but the past two seasons I can't get it. Any help would be much appreciated thank you
Ah I see. Well the normal way to hit is to skate toward them and push up on the right stick. You have to hit them from the right angle for it to be effective and players who protect the puck well are harder to hit. Right now, PS4 players are also having problems knocking people off of the puck with hits whereas Xbox players it works fine. So if you play on PS4, I would avoid it entirely. Personally, I would try to defensive skill stick on the back check and try to knock the puck off of the other player's stick and then if I get too close then I go and hit them or just stand in their way. Just being in their way can cause them to lose the puck which may lead to a turnover. Hope this helps!
These strategies are fine until you play kids that rag the puck and sit behind their net and your AI won't chase them and you get an automatic loss.. stupid
I hate playing those games too. Unfortunately at that point you just have to set all of your strategies to as aggressive as possible so that your AIs charge at the puck ragger when he goes beind the net.
It does not matter. NHL 20 is stil bullshit same as 19. Inaccurate passes, players often cant even hit the net. Fucked up shooting system (last normal was maybe in NHL 14), penalty for no reason, penalty when someone touch your stick when you hold it in one hand. Another bullshit is when you want to pass to another player near the enemy net in the other side, the game detects this pass as a shot instead pass and it goes to goaltender. Another problem is hideous and impractical menu, hideous jersey choice ( Even in NHL 94 it was better) and so on. And absolutely moronic is when referee stops the game, camera shows the same shot of the corner of the stadium instead replays of some interesting game situations. Why? God damn it do you remember old NHL games? Perfect menu with nice colours and photos and better feel of the real match with replays during the game. This is awful. Lots of money for what? For the purple menu instead orange one and for uselles score bar in the bottom of the screen?
Sorry to hear you aren't enjoying NHL 20. I feel it is much improved over 19. The passing and players not being able to hit the net are a result of stats, usually. With 99 OVR players you won't have that much of an issue. Penalties, yeah they can be a bit sensitive so I konw what you mean about that. For the presentation itself, I think they were just trying to evolve from the previous old-gen presentation but obviously its not for everyone.

Yes, you hold L2 first then press the right stick in and then pass.
Whats strategy would you sugest/recommand for the Dman ai on 3 vs 3 ? Ty for reading me
I'd go all passive. The AI are so stupid that you need them to be as far back as possible.
I'm really struggling in the faceoff circle this year it's horrendous... even have issues against the cpu on pro, any advice for that ?
Bayker57 if ur losing to the CPU on Pro, that’s pretty bad. Just work on the timing with the refs hand.
Do something different on every face off. Don’t always do the same face off move and you should be good bud.
Adjust to how the opponent is situated some work while others don’t. Timing is key too. Sometimes tying up the opponents center is good cause the wingers will come in and take the puck.
Is there a way to save these settings? Or do i have to change them everytime I log on
Also would like to know the answer to this
I don't think there is. But once you have put these on for a couple of times you remember them and then it's easy
Hockeyfan should the shoot slider really be at 10? I've done it anywhere from 1-3 and that worked good at time. I don't know how to tweak them that good though.
SealTheDeal Gaming Whatever suits you, I like it on 10
Hockeyfan I've been using it the past few games and it's nice, I'll keep going and see how it compares. Just trying to figure out the 4 of them, they're confusing to me.
Thanks homie❤️
I need some help, I am beginning to dominate online versus. How do I play in the leagues that are shown in your videos? With all time classic players? Is that under rivals?
Thanks man ;D
Left/Right on dpad, and circle and square
or X/B on the xbox.
Was using your strategies from last year.. till today 😈
And now you are using my strategies... until next year 😈
Can you please make a video on how to defend cross crease goals?! I tried everything....
Played 11-7 first my first game with this strategy
Solid video, my guy 🤙🏾
Does this work for draft champions?
What strategy would make two ai player come to the puck carrier? I did this and the pressure but it doesnt seem like the pressure as much as my opponent amd it seems like they dont do nesrly as much on offense.
Meaning when i have the puck by my bet i get pressured by two ai and they super sprint from behind when i hVe the ouck going into his net area
You probably want 2-3, 2 players on the puck carrier, 3 staying back.
I almost use the same strats
Dumb question - do you have to reset the settings every game or will the system recognize your preferences and save them?
Unfortunately they do reset every game, this is a grievance players have brought up to EA for many years :(
Idk i feel like contain puck makes the a.i. kinda float around and get confused.
Does still apply for online versus play, or is this only for playing against the computer?
Both!
On what controllersettings are you playing? Skillstick?
Skill Stick, Autoback skate off, vibration off, pass assist 100% (but my pass assist isn't for everyone, it suits me best because it gives the best chance of my passes of getting to someone.)
Thank you
Yo Brian I started using ur strats. But my first 2 lines go less then half energy in less then 5 mins of the first period??
Yes, because they are trying harder than normal out there. If that isn't what you want, then tone down the energy/efficiency slider a little bit.You gotta remember you have two more lines and they'll help regain the energy of your first two lines :)
Will these strategies work in just a simple standard VS game?
Jersey47 yes
Yup Ill be sure to do so!
Brianstormed you seriously rock. Any way you play some of your subscribers? Would love to have some fun getting by ass kicked, but also to get any tips from you from an eye test. I’m not a top player but always looking to improve.
@@deathsavearcade3951 I'll take the 2 months "left on read" as a no lol
What tactick you use online versus?
Same ones
@@Brianstormed Thanks man!
you got a twitter account? never heard of you until recently but im picking up what you're putting down ... and definitely want to improve at HUT, ive always been an EASHL guy but ive gotten really picky as ive gotten older and i dont play unless i trust my teammates, so HUT/SB has been my main thang since 20 came out. keep up the good work... and ive played gren once or twice and when i saw him on tv a little part of me died seeing the face of the kid who spanked me.. lol...
No, it just sets the AI's play style and positioning
LOL IT'S PAT LAFONTAINE @0:55
How about strategies for EASHL DEFENSE
Xtreme Gaming that’s just skill of the player, you can’t teach that
EASHL is tricky, but I would just have my strategies for my CPUs to be as passive as possible so that they are as far down as possible to play defense.
Do you use saucer passes much? If so when?
Im not huge on saucer passes. If you have a person with a high passing rating they will occasionally do a saucer pass on their own. The saucer pass itself is not as accurate, and harder to handle. I would only use it as a last resort to try to get a pass through bodies. Some players use it far more frequently and find better success with it. If you use it all the time youll find that your players wont receive the most basic passes sometimes.
Thank you.
Thanks so much I’m playing much better
Impart your knowledge on me, Brian senpai.
Unreal, just tried these and lost 2 games straight. Giving up predetermined goals like crazy 🤬
Is draft Champions worth the time and effort?
Depends. It's entirely random just because you get packs which most of the time have nothing, but sometimes they can have a really good pull.
I started using your strategies but I’m finding my players running out of energy really quickly even with my 88s+. Any ideas? I even turned energy down to 3/4
Also how are you updating stuff such as tight point during the game?
Not good
Do you still use off hand players on wings and on D Brian???
I don't use off-hand players on wings and D this year. Cycling is too important along the boards, and your players can take one timers just as well no matter what angle they are. If you really want an off-hand one timer, you can just move with the puck around the player you want to pass to and they can get in position for that 1ter.
Brianstormed so would you say it’s better to not have them off hand, or it just doesn’t matter either way?
I still can't figure out my quick breakout
When you say "ai" do you mean CPU?? If so, the cpu ALWAYS trys to breakaway on me!! Even with 1-4 they STILL always get in. How do I stop them??
You want 1-3-1 with all of my passive defensive settings to get your cpu back. Also adjust the trap/forecheck setting to the left as needed
The fastest click in the west
Best strategy is move to Finland, no need skill.
Will these work with NHL 19?
Yes

tip #1: peel back plastic from game cover and throw directly in dumpster
tip #2: light dumpster on fire
tip #3: don't buy EA Sports games ever again.
Problem Solved!
This strategy is really bad, none of your players ever play defence and they just leave the defensive zone as soon as your defenceman picks up the puck
Just wondering if you had a reply to my earlier comment thank you
Sorry, I think I missed it. Which video is it on? If you want you can just post it here again and I'll reply shortly.
Brianstormed thanks! I play on Xbox so I guess I'll try and work on the angles! Thank you for taking the time to help me with this! Much appreciated
Good video, but i'm looking for something to improve AI in Be a Pro, they are so idiot!
Im not copying these strats you are
The AI in this game are so bad, they Just Stand there and look at us
I like your videos, but it bothers me that you pronounce the word Strategy as "Shtrategies"
Hahaha sorry. I think my braces have something to do with that :(
Brianstormed just busting your balls buddy, the strats work great for me btw, keep it up
bad startegy... didnt change the AI in any sort of way idk what is that bs with NHL 2020
Thats absolutily nothing for me.... No speed if you go to attack, its static and slow......
yes
t. hanks
@@Brianstormed I do that and my AI won't charge the net
The ai in this game is so fucking sad. I don’t understand how you release this game with this bad of ais
This strategy sucks
Horrible strategies
