I remember watching this. At the end, Cavett said "maybe we can do another show?" and Spielberg was agreeable. Excellent two part interview that covered his entire career up to that point (1981).

Him with shorter hair, no glasses, clean shaven and young is such an odd thing to see.
Whenever I picture young Spielberg I think of Jaws behind the scenes not this!😂🤣😂

Historical note: Steven Spielberg insisted on the inclusion of this snake pit scene, despite Harrison Ford's genuine fears of snakes, because, frankly, Steven confided, it reminded him of working in Hollywood.

Ford wasn't afraid of snakes. When he was a kid, he was a counselor at a Boy Scout camp who specialized in reptiles...I think he had a pet snake or two.

This shows how the digital world has simplified and expanded the imaginative potential. I mean, how much trouble and finance is required to source 7000 snakes! Ridiculous. Not to mention what happens to the snakes.

J.J. Abrams does look like a young Spielberg. I can see why so many Hollywood execs clung to him like he was the last Coca-Cola on the desert. It literally reminded them of a better time.

STEVEN SPIELBER'S FILMS ARE GENERALLY VERY ENTERTAINING, BUT THEY LACK A CERTAIN LEVEL OF DEPTH. ALFRED HICHCOCK, SAM PECKINPAH, SIDNEY LUMET ETC.
