Played the "beta".. Its so sad what they did to the The settlers..
This game become more and more mobile tab release than pc games, they keep sabotage and salvage what makes selter game a selter games.

The best thing is, that the original creator announced his game before this released. Its called pioneers of pagonia. Its probably exactly the game he wanted to make with ubi... but they failed.. so he does it himself.

@@Mut4ntG4m3r The thing is there are numerous builder + war games already out there. This could be the concept which sets PoP apart.
I quite fancy the idea of deploying a strategy of diplomacy and trust to succeed, rather than the same old build a formidable army and destroy everything in sight method.
Provided it is done in an enjoyable way it could be popular. If it plays drawn out and uninspiring it won`t be a success. Anything in between and it be a niche market.
I`m excited to see what they deliver.
Pioneers of Pagonia is the real follow up to the settlers. It’s being developed directly by Volker. It looks like the real deal

Sorry for being late. I'm one of those who remember The Settlers IV very fondly. Is the Pioneers of Pagonia the game to satisfy my wish for Settlers true successor?
@@anzek25It’s not exactly the same, but it’s the closest to what you’d probably expect it to be like.
The selection delay is probably because they have built the game with server authority, you send actions to the server and the server itself will do the actions for you this stops a lot of cheating, however it causes latency for each action.
What is done in other games to combat the latency is the client will do everything before the server confirms the action and if the server denies the action it will then tell the client that the action was not carried out and roll back your client game state.
This allows the illusion of instant feedback on the client so there's "no delay".
In FPS games for example, you may get shot just as you move around a corner, even though on your screen you had already turned. This is due to the server-reconciliation behaviour, which causes a delay between when the shot is registered on the other player's screen and when it is registered on your client.
Another example is what's known as "rubber banding" where your screen shows your character jumping back and forth because your client has moved something too far and the server tells you where you really should be and tells your game client to put you back.
They need to do server-reconciliation they clearly missed it.
Adding this after they have already created the game is going to be rather difficult they will have to do a very large refactor of the network code.
Aoe4 had something like forced latency when it first came out. Was annoying AF but eventually mainly rectified. Hopefully settlers is the same
That is how FPS games are done yes. RTS games typically use a deterministic lockstep architecture over a peer-to-peer connection. There may be a server in that model (as in Starcraft 2) but it only checks for cheating and keeps all e-sports tournaments within the developer's control. In other words the server does not decide where the units should be and does not have any authority over issued commands. In this model, only player commands are sent to each peer running the game. Each peer runs the exact same simulation synchronously with other peers. This reduces required network bandwidth and naturally makes it easy to store replays (a replay file will only store all player commands).
However the catch is it is very difficult to code because each peer may be using different processors (we are talking about PCs not consoles) so the results of a floating point arithmetic operation may diverge between different peers if special attention is not paid. Therefore each peer has to disable certain processor optimizations to ensure there is no drift between the simulations over time. Starcraft 2 will also stop the game for everybody in a 4v4 match when 1 player is taking a longer time to respond than the simulation lockstep time.
If Settlers is not using this architecture it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume they were unable to find good network programmers and went for the easier to implement client-server route. It is likely too late to change that as it would be a massive undertaking.

Οne thing i can say for certain about Ubisoft strategy games, is that they really really look good. The attention to visual detail is really astonishing.
And...
I do think the neutrals in this game seem kind of cool, reminds me of those AOM maps with small keeps and bandits guarding some of the resources. That would be fun to have again on one or two AOE4 maps.
I believe there was an additional mountain area to the right of your base where you would probably have a chance (or hopefully be guaranteed to) find coal and iron.
Yeah, at least in the beta, there were resources both to the east and west, not blocked by enemies.
Nice video! I grown up with those games. Age of the empires , the settlers, warcraft 1, red alert. Sadly some they don't keep up to their old reputation.
I'll probably buy this when it goes on sale. I don't think it's worth the full price, considering others say the campaign is short and easy, and I'm a solo player.
This feels like a combination of Civ, AoE and the mobile game Townsmen which is a little weird. I don't like the fact that resources are rng based with what you showed but it does look interesting for a single player experience.
I tried to play some multiplayer. Between the game freezing (some kind of networking failure), the opponent just randomly leaving, the game crashing to desktop, or one of the players just being tossed back to the main menu, I've already seen enough. 0/5 successful MP games -> 0/10 IGN

So compared to the beta they didn't change a lot? To prevent an early rush, they reduced the starting army and added bandits on each lane.
They reskined a few things, the scarecrow that nobody liked is now the decoy.
Still some sort of magic siege unit.

The Devs completely lost all of us who were fans since the beginning a long time ago. We were all hoping they would bring us back with this. Sadly, they didn't. They will solely be relying on newcomers with this one. And they will inevitably realize their mistake.
This is not The Settlers.. at best this is Age of Settlers

I played Pharaoh in my childhood, I'd love to experience what Caesar 3 is like. But given the state of A New Era that might keep the Devs busy lol
The Settlers (the very first one) was my first PC game back in the DOS days. I played Settlers 1 and 2 a lot as a child. So this looks actually great for me.
But I'll wait until it is on Steam and hopefully the MP is playable then, just in case I want to play a game over an evening with a few friends.

also if you want to get extra pissed at Ubisoft.. look at the 2019 footage of the assets that ended up turning into this Age of Settlers game

I played the first Settlers back on the Amiga A500 many many many years ago and was my favourite game along with Populous because they felt so complicated yet so simple at the same time. I haven't played any other Settlers since, they seem to have become worse with time and now don't even resemble the original at all. Seems silly to even have the name attached to it. Shame you couldn't get a refund!
Populous II is one of my all time favourites and certainly helped wear out the mouse on our A500!
I played Populous: The beginning a lot when I was younger. Was such a good game. I can imagine it's held up pretty well over time

Why the actual hell are they trying to shoehorn The Settlers into some kind of multiplayer action RTS style? The Settlers... The single-player city-building resource sim is NOT an action RTS. This is absurd
Lag, we get it. So much hammering about it, 6 minutes and tired of listening to it.
And the refund, we all already know how it works and probably everyone was in the same situation "made up my decision, gonna ask a refund(2+ hours later of trying the game for 1 hour while 30 minutes were spent at the main menu, settings or paused to go attend the door)".
That´s why clever people wait for games to be properly developed before buying them or try cracked games before giving their money to the money grabbers companies wich is the name of the "game" these days...
I honestly loved this game! I am still trying to find a game with the visuals this game did. I tried Civ, but I didnt like the turn base. This kind of reminds me of Cossacks which I played years ago
The Settlers series, for me, and I think most players are a very important series in which the narrative performance is based on princesses, villains, the evil count, and the savior hero... but now it has turned into... I don't know, something very stupid without even any purpose.
the bugs and crashes make the game unplayble, of the 26 matches i could only finish 3... its really that bad :( I hope they fix it, really enjoy the gameplay
also there is this bug that you can't logout :/ kinda like a SOA feeling there (sword art online)

Drongo the game has many issues, but the first bunch of hotfixes has just been released and to be hones, I never had 1 input lagg during any of my pvp matches in this game so far. It must have been either on your end, or you've been recording during the maintenance time (times are posted on the forums).
I love the way the game looks, and it feels like there's a lot of citybuilding, so I would definitely get it if it worked properly or if it was cheaper.
Give it a week and it'll run smoothly. It's only been 2 work days and the devs has solved many of the issues.
Check Pioneers of Pagonia, it made by the people who created the series, not the abomination ubisoft made
don't know why you think there would be "a lot of citybuilding"? Resources are limited, maps are small. The whole game is designed to be fast 30min battles.
Spool down your build order, train your army as fast as possible, rush your oponent. Jump to the next 30minute game and do the same stuff again...
There are a lot of games out there, with way better city building. Every old settler game has more city building than this game.

The game is shit don't get me wrong. But that you didn't get the needed resources is on you. The resources you were looking for are right on the other site. The maps are not random. It's the same every time.
Multiplayer basically unplayable because unit selection is networked and laggy without prediction LOL.
I'd be down to play The Settlers. If it actually was like the old games and not a steaming pile of garbage.
Hope Manor Lords does well. Was looking into Banished, but apparently that game is quite buggy and unfinished which. Sad.
Not sure where you’ve heard Banished is buggy and unfinished. It’s a fantastic town builder game with great mods.
They should remake the settlers hd. Despite its glitches that was one of the best settlers games and it was a mobile release.
I'm so sad for this. I really liked the game, but it just crashed me 3 times in less than two hours (and I don't have a calculator as computer), I want to Google, Reddit, the Ubisoft forum, and what I saw was terrible, everyone complaining, everyone having big issues with the game, and more. I just request a refund, thankfully they gave me back my money.
I hope in the future the fix this major issues, if so I'll re-buy it and play it.
Take in consideration that It's my first "Settler" game, so probably that's why I didn't found anything "bad" about the "changes" (cuz I can't notice changes if I don't know how it was before), I just liked it, but the same: I won't pay for a broken product.
It reminds me MKX when it launched, the lag in a fighting game or the response in RTS is game breaking. Im so used to sc2 responsiveness that I can not even play AOE4, because UI and click lag is sad
As soon as I seen this on Xbox today I thought holy moly they just released age of empires 2 on Xbox idk how well this will fair against AOE 2 as it’s probably the most balanced RTS today.

super curious as to where your opponent was in this game. I think that its possible you had a European opponent or something egregious so you were running on really high ping. that said you probably didnt have a near player because the game didnt have the players.
looks like it could've been better and more like settlers 4 butt they made it too simple. shame this is probably the last game we will see.
I bet they will iron out the connection issues and lag. Still unacceptable. So for me its a singleplayer for now. Its shielded by Ubisoft so it should not die immiedietly after the release. Look at Anno 1800 its hitting season 4 with dlcs and expansions. Assassins Creed Valhalla support ended few months back if I am not mistaken. Facr Cry 6 is still getting I think a new DLC called between worlds or some shit. So I dont think it will be forgotten after a release. Also there is a possibility that your opponent had really shitty connection or something like that.
You could looked to the right side on your minimap where you didnt even scrolled a single time there could be iron and coal you went left for the berries. Holy shit you have scrolled to the right at exactly 32:57 minutes congratulations. I bet thats where the iron and coal is since its your side of your map.
What does support have to do with the company? Anno 1800 was a great gamne and probably made a lot of money so it gets more supprt and DLC. AC Valhalla is absolute garbage (imo) but it's not a bad game and I can see why some people would still buy it. Settlers is something entirely different. Probably depends on the console crowds for this title. Barely anyone will play such a crappy game on a PC.
@@jamaly77 Its published and made by Ubisoft. Do your research. They cancelled I think 6 IPs to focus on the best ones. Yet Settlers survived. So I dont think they will leave it. When you start Settlers it shows its a Ubisoft Originals and Ubisoft is not to abandon games or something at least they did not for past a few years. This is Ubi not Rockstar thats spits out masterpiece of a game called RDR2 by many gamers (thats not my opinion I didnt like RDR2 at all) and shits all over the multiplayer because fuck you give me money GTAV players. Settlers hasnt been released in some time so I think its save to say that game will be supported for a while as is FC, Valhalla, Rainbow 6, Anno and The Division. I dont know if you played the game or not but Settlers New Allies is fine ass game, Hud is sleek (little large but could be scaled down), graphics is beautiful and gameplay is easy to grasp and the spirit of Settlers is still there.
Its a strategy so I will definetly not going to play this game on a console I am not mentally challenged. I dont think your point on garbage is clear since Valhalla made tons of money and was supported for 4 years if I am not mistaken getting a lots of updates and 3 bigger dlcs. Settlers is maybe not in their mainline IPs but its still Ubisoft so if what we see till today this will be supported for a while. Of course this is still only speculation and I am not working in Ubisoft but there is a lots of clues that it should not die week after a release. But it could still go the road of FC Primal they just dropped and made a survival mode and that was the end of that (still one of my fav FC in the series) but who knows.
Hi Aussie, Ubisoft games, never getting supported after lrelease, all i played Anno; and all Settlers i played, the bug's never got solved. I played beta a year ago and i am sure i see no difference between now and than. They changed the name of the game, took money, and now there will be no more changes at all - Thats ubusoft style. And thats sad, becasue Anno and as well Settlers are there number one games, which i remeber from my childhood. Played the settlers on Amiga 600 the first time.
The OG Anno games on disks and stuff were not always touched but Anno 1800 has had tons of content added, tons of bug fixes and so on. I have no idea what kind of glue you are sniffing or world you are living on.
you got hexagons now? i remember playing The Settlers 2: Gold and it was just like the name implies, it was gold. I loved that game, so it makes me sad to see it bastardised like this
Wait, didn't Settler 1 and 2 also have hexagons? I am almost 100% sure. It was just implemented better and much less obvious.
If I'd ever play Settlers again, it would be S4 Gold Edition though.
@@jamaly77 i do not remember seeing hexagons in Settlers 2. I still remember how i could micromanage my mines' positions so that they extracted the most resources.

its really anooying when a new game just copies the most poppular game, cuz fkn everyone has already played it only time it ever made the slightest bit of sene was paladin cuz it was f2p overwatch but just remaking the most popular game in the genre and then charging full price is just nutso like imagine if they actually had the some creativity or risk in theyre game design it coldve been more diff than age of empires it couldve been better if itd just been its own thing
always gotta remember w the slow control clunky strategy games no matter how hard it feels to control ur units all ur enemys goin thru the same sht so its just like slower less reactive more proactive starcraft but i think we all on the same page w rts that slow clunky controls are fair and an equal battle field but theyre consideranble less fun than potentially microing

Seems like they took an incredibly multilayered and developed strategy game and turned it into something which seems unfinished and made for children..

Atrocious performance aside, the game doesn't look that bad. Settlers IV already had micromanagement of units. But what it seems is like it's ripping off Northgard.

If you have ever played speelforce 2, it looks the same.
Big warning, don't buy this game if you're planning to play multiplayer. You can't play versus your friends, you can't play versus without people constantly disconnecting and not being able to rejoin, and you won't be able to play against a decent AI. They're terrible for such a simple game. This game is alpha at best.
I didn't enojy watching this. You play so fast it made me nervous. I felt like I should reduce it to 0.75 speed.
But yeah what Pve watched the reviews, the game needs to be bad. Simplified from the Settlers III and IV. Maybe made for you PvP players. But I hear also the skirmish A.I. is hopelessly easy, and you can only have one A.I. enemy.
The beta was terrible to play, and it took a long time before they released the game.. The campaign is a big disappointment.. After every time u completed a campaign lvl, the game is crashing when u start the next lvl.. (every time, over and over).. they used the same garbage from the beta, in the game it self. 👎
not all the games should be competitive, some games are strategy games and its like solving a puzzle and having fun this way ,sorry dont i dont mean it personally but all competitors have this perspective on this type of games they dont like it and then they start a review about how bad is it, dude i work in a game production company , for me if you want to compete go play Valorant.
TBH game seems to be scam - its rly sad for many ppl who love Settlers but it isnt game ppl deserve. Graphic is nice but all rest is mess imo. I would be rly supride if devs put any wffort to fix it if they didnt do any stuff to marketing it when it comes out. I saw many content creators trying this tittle and not many got much possitive to say about, sadly....
