  • I get a lot of emails and messages about how to build your home bar. And I know it can be very confusing to figure our how to not only go about building a collection of spirits, but also ones that make sense for what you're trying to achieve in a home bar. The very first step is gaining an understanding of what each product is so you can better understand what you should have on hand.
So for this episode I'm going through my fave favorite bourbons, ones that I always have on hand, and why I like them so much. Hope you guys enjoy this one!

You nailed it in my view. I love Old Grand Dad. When my brother and I started experimenting with drinking when we were young, my dad sat us down and taught us how to drink properly and responsibly. His philosophy was that it was better to learn in our home from him rather than from a bunch of our peers. He placed a bottle of Old Grand Dad on the table and then taught us to sip - and not be sloppy or stupid drunks. He taught us to appreciate quality. I also love Buffalo Trace and Four Roses. And I will be adding Elijah Craig and Weller’s to my bar. Thx Leandro.

That's the bourbon I love, but then I am not a connoisseur. I just make it a habit of emptying my brother-in-law's bar whenever he has restocked of that delicious brand.

Buffalo Trace is so smooth on it’s own and great in a Brown Derby. It really comes to place in that cocktail. Evan Williams Bonded is my go to for a Mint Julep, but i go in with a hint of Smith & Cross and Angostura Bitters on the end. One of those and I’m in tipsy town!

Every bottle was spot-on! What really shocked me was when you got to the end, Weller Special Reserve, WOW! I actually can drink anything I want, literally (𝒩𝑒𝒶t), I know when it comes to Bourbons it becomes personal, but, WSR was the bullseye, even the oldman at Wellers agree WSR is about as dialed in as it gets.

Great Video. Even before you started I was surprised that I already have 4 out of the 5 bourbons on my shelf. The one that I don't have is the Granddad. The prices that you mention btw are low compared the NY Long Island. But they are still all below $50 here.
A suggestion for your videos going forward, when you post the recipe (and thank you for that) please also include the brand/type etc that you are using. When I try something you make I like to use exactly the brand names that you use also if I can find them. Thanks again and keep up the great videos!

The only distillery that uses a wood-fired still is "Wood Hat" ... from Central Missouri. The 100 proof "Rubenesque" is very smooth for that strength. ( 750 ml - $44.00 ) When it's finished in Pecan barrels, it becomes 90 proof "Twin Timbers". Their other offerings are all good. In addition to the Bourbons, they also have several versions of Corn Whisky, and a few Cordials.

Four Roses is great, and I'm a huge fan of Buffalo Trace and their lineup, but keep an eye out for Wild Turkey and Russell's Reserve (same distillery, different product lines). Wild Turkey 101 is frequently seen topping the charts of best budget bourbons, as well as Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond.

Great video! Couple of comments. You have to search for the Weller. A few years ago, I was still able to find it in Los Angeles for around $30 to $40. Today, it's $60 and up, and not worth it at that price. I was in Georgia a year ago for a wedding, and at a random liquor store, they had a bottle of Blantons for $60 and Weller Special Reserve for $28! Once you are out of the "big cities" look at the local liquor stores, you never know what you will find!

Yeah I know the Weller is allocated pretty sure I address it in the video. Consequently I got the bottle in that video for 23 bucks here in LA. It is possible to find but really it just informs people that if they happen upon a bottle (like you did) for that good price, snap it up immediately

Most of these are quite difficult to get here on the other side of the pond (Netherlands specifically, but assuming the same is true for Europe as a whole). • @harryborsalino1276
    @harryborsalino1276 4 роки тому +1

I wouldn't argue with the Elijah Craig Small Batch or the Four Roses Small Batch, both are regulars in my whiskey cabinet. Haven't tried the Grand Dad in a long time so will have to check it out...my Bourbon along those lines has always been Old Forester, which I call my "egg nog" Bourbon. I could suggest Bulleit as another classic Bourbon that's quite affordable, as is Knob Creek. Neither pretends to be anything it's not. If somebody wants to spent a little more, the Four Roses Single Barrel is very nice, as is Henry McKenna 10 Year Old Single Barrel (when your local liquor store can keep it in stock). The McKenna was very afordable until a few years ago when it started winning awards, and suddenly the price ratcheted up as it became everyone's newest discovery! ;-) Very enjoyable vid!

I always have a bottle Buffalo Trace and Four Roses Small Batch or Single Barrel on hand. Great video. I've still never seen a bottle of Weller's on a shelf here in socal.

Matthew Cota not sure where you’re at but I’ve found the Weller 107 at K&L Wines here in LA for like 27 bucks. I know the Weller’s are hard to find but it is legit one of my faves at the right price and it also informs someone to immediately snap it up if they find it for a reasonable price

For some reason I find I like Four Roses and lemonade. My other bourbons just don't shine through as well in that mix of flavors. For a neat dram in a Glencairn give me Elijah Craig any day!

    My 5 are:
    1. Maker's Mark
    2. 4 Roses Small Batch
    3. Woodford Reserve
    4. Henry McKenna
    5. Buffalo trace

I think it’s cool that all of the bourbons you listed were all from Kentucky and if you ever come here try an Ale8 it’s not an alcohol beverage but it’s only made here

With a high proof spirits we should "smell" it with the mouth, it's almost the same effect as doing it with the nose, also not an expert, Congrats for the show!!!

I bacon fatwashed a Woodford Reserve straight for a video I'm putting up Friday morning. I first tried with Knob Creek straight, but it was blah.
I also picked up a bottle of Lot no 40 to see how that would taste, but I haven't tried it yet. These are my first experiences with bourbon and American rye.
I have to find smokier bacon, though. I was stuck with whatever's the smokiest thing at the supermarket. I'm north of the border and in a province with a locked-down approach to alcohol availability, so getting some of the stuff on your channel is a bit of a ride.

You can order from Bentons farm in Tennessee I’m sure they’d shipped you. Makes a damned fine fat wash!

Good stuff. You actually demonstrated very well, why glencairn glass is better: you get the aroma of whiskey instead of alcohol fumes.

Yeah I know I have some but most people drink out of a glass and I’m not a professional taster or sommelier I’m a cocktail professional so that’s what went into the idea, I’ll leave the glen cairns for Whiskey Tribe
