Really enjoyed this video... a real blast from the past, being Edinburgh born and bred i was able to work out the sweetshop you bought your sweets from, just ordered a can of Creamola Foam from them... the last time i had Creamola Foam was in the 1970's when i went on a school trip to the Rhine Valley in West Germany, after being brought up on Scottish tap water i simply couldn't drink the tap water in West Germany because it tasted so foul to my then 13 or 14 year old taste buds.
There was no such thing as bottled water back then so it was either drink what came out the tap or dehydrate... fortunately i was able to find a grocery store (not an easy task for a schoolboy who didn't speak or read a word of German in the 70's and so had no clue as to what type any of the shops were... no big supermarkets back then either).
Anyway, stumbled across a grocery shop after opening many shop doors and saw on a shelf what appeared to be a can of Creamola Foam, i say 'what appeared' to be because the can was written in German, because back then i was familiar with the labelling Creamola Foam used in the UK i bought a can and rushed back to the hotel, added it to the tap water and drank countless glasses... that one can lasted me for the rest of the stay.... when i got back to Edinburgh, the quality of Scottish tap water has never taken for granted again ;)
It'll be interesting to see if Creamola Foam is as i remember it, or as my taste buds have changed over the years, it's now as bad the West German water i remember? lol
My mother had a sweet shop when I was growing up. The whole class of sweets are "sookers" so meant to be sucked. Others you could try are jedhart snails, penny chews, Keillers butterscotch, Russian caramels, mint imperials, chocolate limes, kola kubes, bon bons, winter mixture, humbugs. I remember the racks that held the jars of those sweets (sold by 4 ounce bags) were 3 shelves of 8 glass jars. On the way go school kids would come in for 4 ounces of their favourite. Every Sunday all the churchgoers would come in for a bag of mint imperials to see them through the service.
Uhhhg, at the end I see Simon sounds much more English. Correcting myself... Happy Health folks!

I LOVE cinnamon sweets. A traditional sweet in Holland where I am from originally is cinnamon sticks, which is acrumbly cinnamon flavoured candy log covered in pure cinnamon powder which is quite spicy. Also, if you haven't been, there's a traditional Scottish fudge maker on the Royal Mile. Besides being very cool to see the actual process, the fudge is out of this world
I am dreaming of doing a collaboration with the Fudge makers from Royal Mile! Fingers crossed! .) Also cinnamon sticks sounds great - I bet I'd love them (and I am also sure Simon would loathe them haha)

The Barr irn bru bars were amazing. Those along with the original Wham Bars were the go to sweets before and after school.

I LOVE the Iron Brew bars but I haven't seen them or bought them in forever...I also loved Cremola foam when I was little and then they stopped making it. I bought Krakatoa Foam in a shop one day when I saw it, but it just wasn't the same!! I wracking my brains trying to remember my favourite as a kid, but I honestly haven't seen it in almost 30 years...I looked like a large lucky tattie (but it wasn't - I hated cinnamon as a child!) but more golden in colour, sometimes on a lolly stick and sometimes not...it was crumbly and sweet and I cannot find anything about them online - they were never sold in the shops where I am, only at the ice cream van. Another favourite was puff candy!
We have lots of nostalgic sweets in Brazil! Most of them made with sugar cane (not white sugar, but the brown one).
Here in Spain, we have two classic candies: "las violetas" ( violet petals flavored) and "piedras de río" (fruit flavored, and they actually look like real stones).
Violets are such a weird sweet! I remember something like that being a thing back in Czech Republic too - but as a kid I didn't like them all that much x) Do you?

CANDY CANE!!! Ha, ha - You guys are great to see together like this... lots of smiles and fun with this one. What is Simon's heritage? German or maybel Belgian-Scottish? From what I know about other classic sweets... Scottish Tablet (fudge type stuff), Tunnock's Tea Cakes (marshmallow, chocolate cookie) and the Cockles you had are representative of ocean cockles (an edible little mussle / clam), .... Can't wait to travel again and meet some wonderful folks out there, like you two. Keep well and happy!
Tunnocks Teacakes are my favourite Scottish treat of ALL.TIME. I feel like I mention them way too often so I didn't include them in this video, haha - but whenever I meet a friend visiting Edinburgh I always make sure I bring them some!! .)

20:00 OMG, in Poland we used to have ViboVIT, and it was that obnoxiously artificial orange or lemon taste, but instead of dissolving it, we tend to just pour all the powder straight into the mouth and let it fizz 🤣 I love the slimy green colour of that, I will have to try it :D
Aaaa that sounds exactly like the thing I am talking about!!! Not surprised Poland had something similar, we seem to share so much modern history nostalgia!
Our teeth hurt after watching this 😂 the krakatoa foam! So weird haha! Also, you trying to figure out what a candy cane is called and then you stroll in with a candy cane glass 😂 we're not big sweet people but we'll definitely try the 10p iron Bru ones! Great video guys!!

What old sweets do you all still like?
Really miss those vintage sweet shops which had a wall of candy in a jar that needed to be weighed much like the 2 Ronnies sweet shop sketch which had a rather fussy customer lol ! , with so much choice it was difficult to choose. Back in the day it was easy to get a tin of various boiled , soft and hard rock sweets which i think came from the Borders. Favourites when i was growing up include : spangles , dolly mixtures , jelly babies , wine gums , midget gems , fruit gums , fruit pastilles , kola cubes , cola bottles , pan drops ( Scottish mint imperial ) , dairy mints , parma violets , drum sticks , refreshers , love hearts , bazooka joes , space dust ( crackles in your mouth ) , soor plooms , rhubarb & custard , sherbet lemons , butterscotch & sherbet dabs even though liquorice was an acquired taste !
