We spotted you during our Leith stroll the other day! Was too shy to say hi & out of earshot geeked out at my partner "oh my god did you see who we just walked past!!!" In fact you caught my "deer in the headlights" expression at 2:49 which is hilarious 😂oh no... +Another great stop is the Leith Flea Market at Drill Hall every month!
Gem of a video!! We just moved to the area from California after selling almost everything, and now we have to furnish our entire house. Thank you for all of the tips!! Looking forward to getting started :)
I recently gave my wedding dress to the specialty charity shop you mentioned in Stockbridge, it was really lovely to get the letter about them selling it and getting the Gift Aid too. I would definitely recommend Stockbridge and Bruntsfield/Morningside for the charity shops, and both areas have a nice mix of bakeries, book shops, and gift shops too, to make a day of it.
When we came over last year, we had a hair-oil mishap in my luggage that even washing with fairy liquid couldn’t fix. The charity shops around Bruntsfield SAVED MY BUTT (well, they saved everyone else from having to see my naked butt). Such a great selection, nice folks and overall wonderful vibe. I still wear so many of the clothes (and have reusable bags) I bought there!
I lOVED the charity shops in Edinburgh. I did pick up a few lovely things which I am wearing finally (since it is getting cold over here). And the best bit is that it is a reminder of our time there.
Evening Kat how are you? Loved the tour of the most beautiful places where Charity shops are there in Edinburgh which looks amazing! Thanks for sharing and have a beautiful week! ❤
I know what you mean about that Save the Children looking like Urban Outfitters 😂 Also I knocked something over in there (it was totally fine!) and the staff watched me like a hawk the whole rest of the time I was there, it was a little unnerving tbh. Morningside has a bunch of decent shops too, mixed in terms of quality/price, but really handy if you want to trawl through lots of shops in one small area and definitely some gems to be found. Also wanted to say thank you so so much for all your videos, I’ve just moved to Scotland from NZ and they’ve been such a help for tips and activities plus beautifully produced and interesting 😊 watching your 48 hours in Stirling helped me decide to try and move there soon ❤
At Goodwill I found a boomerang in the original packaging made by a shop in Australia. It was pretty cool to research the history of the shop, and to toss the boomerang around in an open field. It really worked!
Ahh I love browsing charity shops, I enjoyed this video! You definitely need to do Morningside, that can't be missed out of any Edinburgh charity shop zone round-ups. A follow-up video maybe? ;)
I’ve lived one year in Edinburgh, in Corstorphine, and the charity shops there were great, especially the big one by Tesco. I sure miss them, and Edinburgh as a whole.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I'm SUPER glad that you missed my favourite charity shop as it is one of the less popular ones and I always find great gems there!! It will stay hidden I suppose :) Really fun idea for a video!
Oh that’s very understandable! Sometimes it’s tough because sharing hidden gems should be my job but….. I also kinda want to keep some just for myself, especially not being super fond of busy businesses 😅
I must say Dalry/Gorgie charity shops were the most generous for me, I've left there pound or two. I looove Morningside as well. Need to to visit Stockbridge! Have you heard of Little Free Library? There is plenty in Edi - take a book and leave a book. My library is based on those little boxes scattered all over the city
I also bought a gorgeous set of beaded coasters in that same shop by Summerhall when I passed my citizenship test for the UK! Later I found out my dear friend lives right by and I saw his front door in your video!!! xx
I am looking forward to one day at least during my visit to check out some charity shops. I am a thrifter at home and would love to see what I might find to bring back. Also, I was surprised about what you said about suitcases. I am on a couple of travel groups and they actually recommend looking for them at charity shops for a second check on. I will keep what you said in mind.
I can't say I saw many suitcases while exploring these shops 🤔 but if you did a proper big tour of charity shops, I'm sure you'd have some luck with this plan!
I was in Edinburgh Spring 2022 & I went to many charity shops looking for a suitcase but I only found one shop that had a small suitcase, but not at any others. I ended up buying a suitcase in Primark instead. I love the adventure of poking around charity shops. Have a wonderful trip 🙋🏼♀️
We might have been at the same shops. I did this shoping a week ago, but due to traveling with one bag, I did not purchase anything. However, when I return July1, I am looking for a charity shop suitcase and shopping!
Visiting Edinburgh this December for my honeymoon and have added loads of your recommendations over the last year! Would you consider doing a video on antique shops? I have Unicorn, Cavanagh's, and Duncan & Reids so far on my Google My Map I've been making - but I'd love to see if you have any thoughts on them or any more to add! I'm an architectural historian so I love to focus on the vintage and older goodies, hehe
Went to morningside earlier today and compared to south Wales it's extortionate! Only two of the 5 or 6 we visited were actually reasonably priced. First BHF we visited was boots all over £60, and next jumpers for close to £30, Managed to snag a pair of shoes from M&S for a tenner at oxfam but other than that, all too overpriced
do you happen to know if there's one with a good selection of toys? such as vintage playmobil or vintage sylvanian families? would love to get some for my kids!
I spotted some prices in those shops and thought oh WOW, they are expensive compared to our charity shops here in Western Australia. Lots of lovely items though.
I am going to be moving to Edinburgh later this year from the USA and will need good but cheap furniture for sure since I can't bring anything with me.
Best charity shop in Edinburgh (IMHO) is the Bethany in Stockbridge - has everything, electrics, clothes, books and a great vintage/antique selection and high turnover. :-) Found some cracking bargains there, haven't watched vid yet so you'll probably cover them but best areas for charity shops I think are Stockbridge, Morningside and South Clerk st ! You want to go to charity shops in the more affluent areas like Stockbridge and Morningside because you get better stuff generally,
I think the best thing I ever got in a charity shop was a final fantasy game on the ps2 for like...I think it was 30p?. I'm pretty sure it was FF12, It was a pretty good deal.
Thank you for your information. Just back from Edinburgh and I like this place. I am from Hong Kong. Welcome anyone chat with me. I would like to know more about this lovely place. 😊
So, all this time, I have been settling for sofas that *weren't* haunted when I actually had a choice in this matter?? Where did I go wrong in my life?? 😱
Colour coded bookshelves look brilliant but if you are trying to sell or buy books they should be in author alphabetical order - I do not even look at books in shops that are in colour coded order - I buy many many books and they are losing out - all my own opinion of course!
Thrift shops in America and charity shops in the UK are two completely different things. Your title is misleading for American tourists. Please reconsider your use of American language.
Nothing better to do today? If we're going to spend time unnecessarily correcting people's use of language I think it's worth pointing out that American isn't a language, it's a dialect of English. They are called charity shops here because 19 out of 20 of them are run by charities.

I was thinking that seemed like a very knowing look when I was editing!! Please do say hi next time!
Clicked back just to see you. At least she caught you in a fantastic outfit!

Hahaha, when you called the window of the Dalry Shelter 'unhinged and I feel attracted to that vibe' I felt that

I was named after Maria in West Side Story! Love this tour! I have lived in Edinburgh for years and did not know of some of these areas!

kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
Morningside and Stockbridge are by far the best places for charity stuff. The Oxfam in Stockbridge in particular is amazing for music.
I lOVED the charity shops in Edinburgh. I did pick up a few lovely things which I am wearing finally (since it is getting cold over here). And the best bit is that it is a reminder of our time there.
Awwww yes that's the best! I have a couple of coats I thrifted in Japan and they feel so special to me 🥲

Thanks for a great video. That’s a full day visiting Edinburgh sorted for me
You’ll need to cover Bruntsfield and Morningside Road for many charity shops.
There's some cracking charity shops here in Edinburgh, what cool stuff have you all found in your charity shops?
Old film cameras :)
Nice!!

charity shops are amazing places to explore.my mum and her sister were portobello high street junkies😀

I got a little blue suitcase on Henderson Row but a very long time ago. Near the alba Doro

I spotted some prices in those shops and thought oh WOW, they are expensive compared to our charity shops here in Western Australia. Lots of lovely items though.
I knooooow... especially clothing does not feel like much of a good deal in charity shops. But for little bric a brac gems it's still great!
Would love more info on price comparisons

Aaah I totally missed that there is a Bethany in Stockbridge as well as my fave next to Summerhall!
@@Kakibot Bethany are great because they also have electrical items :-) and furniture!
Always found Corstorphine to have excellent charity shops the really big cancer research shops even delivers furniture.
I absolutely love your blouse, where is it from?
It’s a whole dress! (And yes it does have pockets haha)
It’s from Palava .)
I'm down in Leith all the time! But I've never seen that spot with the arches where you were at the beginning. Pray tell, where is it?
It’s on the Leith parish church grounds! .)
@@Kakibot Great to know, thank you!

Where in Leith are you during the intro? It looks like an aqueduct?
It's the cemetery by the Leith Parish church! .)

I am from Hong Kong. Welcome anyone chat with me. I would like to know more about this lovely place. 😊
I’m an Edinburgh charity shop-a-holick but even I think there are far too many in the city 😁
“End of list” 😂
So, all this time, I have been settling for sofas that *weren't* haunted when I actually had a choice in this matter?? Where did I go wrong in my life?? 😱
Everyone's always all "bah it's so hard making friends as an adult" when they could be getting bonus pals via haunted furniture!!
@@Kakibot Sleep Paralysis demons are another untapped resource for bonus pals😆

A haunted sofa????
Giftaid is the tax thing.

Edinburgh charity shops're too overpriced imo. You should try Perth, over 10 charity shops in a town centre, all great, better than in Edinburgh
UK = charity shops and sausages. Hmm...
اريد السفر الي سكتلندا كاكي بوتس والعيش في هذا البلد الخلاب وممتع من كل الجوانب
