I’ve always described Ryo as an offensive wall. I feel like it really encapsulates his play style; instead of a defensive wall trying to hold his ground and keep you at bay he slowly approaches you and suffocated you.
I personally don't like SNK fighting games with the exception of Mark of The Wolves which I feel is the best fighter that they've ever done and maybe KOF 97. Having played some KOF as a kid, I could have sworn that Ryo was much, much faster than what I'm seeing in this video. It also baffled me that Ryo was also slow in Capcom Vs. SNK 2 and I could have sworn that his fireball was a normal fire ball like that of Hadoken. I'm almost certain he was much faster in SVC Chaos as well.
Ryo is MAD fast in 94-95, fast all the way through until 99 and becomes mid lvl fast until 13 when he becomes the brick shithouse he was in AoF 1 and 2
Ehh. I respect the attempt to classify him but he is fundementally a shoto. He's just a tank variation of a shoto. Just like how Robert, Oni, Evil Ryu, Akuma, Dan, and Sean are all various takes on a shoto
He’s a dan not ryo horrible range slow speed and no way to get people to either to get someone to jump in or close distance; I’ve never heard of defensive as a playing arc type and those parties are garbage ; Robert is pretty much the new face of AoF

My favorite character of all time. Whenever I get my hands on a KOF game he is my first pick. This has been my tradition since 94.

Basically Ryo in this game is Kage with parrys
His normals are faster and safer than Kage's too.

he's not a shoto anymore because of kof95 where he was plain broken.
The only shoto move he has is the DP, all of his other specials do different things
Don't forget Allen, Kairi, Gouken, Kage, Mr. Karate, and Batsu!
