Such a eerie, and haunting song.. One of the most underrated songs ever! Very repetitive but still phenomenal.
It is a haunting song and you see the door in the background open and close on its own at around 2:50 😂

The unplugged version is phenomenal as well. The emotions Kurt pours out are unparalleled
The most emotional version of this song (in my opinion) is the Live at the BBC version, but unplugged is definitely a contender!

One of the greatest Nirvana songs but one of the most heartbreaking; especially after KC played it live on MTV months before he did what he did.

Butch Vig, the guy who engineered Nevermind which this song is off of, said it was one of the hardest songs to get Nirvana to record because it was so hard to get them to play quietly. Especially tough getting Dave Grohl on drums to play softly. There was always a lot of mystery over the meaning of this song. In the song Kurt sings about "underneath the bridge" and supposedly he was homeless for a time so people thought he wrote it about being homeless, but to my knowledge Kurt never talked about what the lyrics meant, which was pretty typical of him.
There's a "Behind the music" about this song from Butch Vig, the album's producer on how this was the hardest song to record on the album. Worth a watch.

Kurt laid on the floor while singing this in the studio for the recording... it was the only way that Butch Vig (the producer of this album) could do the lyrics justice. 💯
If you listen to the Montage of Heck movie you’ll hear slightly different lyrics”It’s not in the way” instead something in the way. It was really interesting to listen how a song progresses from Kurt recording it on tape at home to a professional recording studio.

For me is seems to represent that he feels like a burden and he's trying to work through his problems alone "drippings from my ceiling" and "tarp has sprung a leak could be representation of his life falling apart "something in the way" could represent how he feels like a burden like he's in the way that's just how I interpreted it and I've been feeling like that lately

I haven't heard this song since I bought the album 30 years ago! Kurt Cobain was notorious for stringing together random unrelated lines. You can look for meaning, but you won't find much! Most people just heard a phrase or two like the one about fish not having feelings and took the rest at face value. Thanks for the uploads!

I completely disagree, even in his “Random” lyrics they are matter of fact for Kurt! He lived a life of addiction to heroin. I have as well, and when you are at the bottom of your life it’s very easy to connect and understand what it is he was trying to say!

I disagree about fuck nirvana! But I don't disagree about more alice in chains... my all time favorite albums from the 90s are unplugged aic and nirvana in that order... so I totally agree that alice in chains is way better in both of our opinions.. but don't disrespect nirvana and what they did!
I'm going to make a guess that you were born late 90s or after? Not trying to judge you by any means.. but I miss the 90s... if I could hit rewind I would! (Tape deck ) I'd love to do it from the beginning! Wouldn't change much but I have lived alot of good times and now we're getting served shit sandwiches aka bidens hotdogs suckers! Want the special sauce? This is criminal what they are doing!
@@adamsecord5954 I'm not disrespecting the band..there's songs of theirs that I really dig..I probably should've been more clear and said fuck nirvana reactions...basically because their songs are basic and simple and Kurt's voice, to me, was terrible..they're not a bad band. AIC is light years ahead of everyone tho. The songs are more complex and have way more depth. Then there's Layne. The greatest voice to ever exist. So that's why I vote for way more AIC reactions.
