    I was in CDMX last week and it was ALIVE. the stores and restaurants were packed. The streets were full of people , lots of families. Museums, art galleries. The city was spotless as well. Spot on you are Jose about Mexicans being happy people, so true. My wife is Mexican and we have friends and family in Zapopan. It is a great area and never to this day have we felt unsafe in Guadalajara or anywhere in Mexico for that matter. I side stepped the negative press about Mexico a long time ago and have traveled thousands of miles within the country with no incident whatsoever.

      That "Wall" was built to keep you guys in not to keep anyone out. I think the US just wants to keep as many of it's citizens in the USA paying taxes and not living abroad. That is why they tell you the rest of the world is extremely dangerous. When the reality couldn't be any further from the truth.

      I think the main reason is that Mexico exposes that the US has become Pottersville (if you know the classic movie "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart). The US is controlled by rapacious corporations and billionaires which price gouge the American people to death, as is most obvious in the health care system, and the lack of affordable housing. A place like Mexico makes the US ruling elite appear in their true light...

    I’m a Mexican American currently living in Colorado, USA. Each time I watch your videos I keep falling in love with Mexico, my homeland, more and more. What really hit the nail on the head for me was when I visited during this last New Years. Everyone was nice and polite. I really want to live down there, but I’m scared at the same time. I’m scared I won’t be able to find a job and make a living. Even though the peso is worth more the dollar still currently beats it. I’m also afraid I’m going to regret it.
    Even though I’m scared to do it, there’s this other part of me that tells me to go down there. To go and chase happiness.

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  2 місяці тому +2

      Being scared is a natural reaction. But as you said you should be more scared you are going to regret not coming back to Mexico. Fear and Courage are the same emotion in the brain. Depends on how you act on something on how it is defined. Most people that do something courageous are very scared while they do it. You only live once. Best to take a chance than to continue thinking what if. Of course it wont be easy, but in time you will realize its even more difficult to do what you're doing right now instead of taking that leap of faith you have been wanting to take for so long. Good luck with everything!

    Yesterday I read about the 99 cents store closing all of the stores in the USA, and the fact so many people have expressed concerns shows how vulnerable the situation is in the country. I even felt upset about it, for one of the last remaining options to shop for cheaper options is gone. When eggs were like 8 bucks a dozen at Ralphs, I used to go there and get them for $3. Some economists have also said that this is a concerning, signs that things are about to get much worse.
    Near that 99 cents store, in LA, a middle class neighborhood, there's also a plasma center where not just the homeless go to donate but working people in general. Some donate as a part time job, like a man I meet who worked for the los Angeles airport. ( I even went there for some time after not being able to find work)
    I have to go back to the USA cause I have business and errands to take care off. But there's a part of me inside that is dreading it.
    I can already picture myself walking on the streets of LA and questioning whether to say hi or to ignore a passing stranger, cause the person could be unhinged. The coldness of the people, the indifference...I'll use this as an opportunity to prepare myself more before leaving the USA again, for when I came to Mexico I came for a family reunion, a party and decided to stay for a few months.

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  2 місяці тому +2

      Unfortunately things are just bound to get worse in the US before they get any better. Had no idea the .99 cent stores were closing, you would think they would be thriving in such a horrible economy, but as you said it is a sign of the times and what is to come down the pike. Good luck on returning to the USA. Hopefully you will be able to use this as an opportunity to figure out what it is you need to do to finally get outta there and make your way to the safety of Mexico.

      @@sr9253I've been attacked twice by homeless people in LA. One time I was smacked in the head by a homeless black woman in Carson. I was crossing the street, waiting for the light to cross, when she passes by me and hit me with a metal object. Not sure if it was a wrench.
      I actually saw her passing by with the metal looking object at hand, and she was shouting at cars. But somehow it didn't occur to me she would attack me, for at the time I would see unhinged people daily doing crazy stuff but wouldn't mess with me.
      But after getting whacked in the head several times, I ran away, and honestly I didn't want to hit her. But I called the police. When she was arrested she told the cops she wanted to kill me ( right in front of me). So she was charged with attempted murder. This was in 2018. Last year I got a letter saying she could be released over the new laws that have been passed. This incident also occurred the following day after coming from Mexico, from Sinaloa, when I was visiting family during vacation. And mention Sinaloa to any American and they'll say it's very Dangerous. I'm in culiacan at the moment and feels very safe. People are very friendly and warm. I have not meet a single mean person since I arrived in late January. And lots of families with kids everywhere, from parks to plazas, even at night.

    One thing I noticed upon making a trip back to the USA for a couple weeks ago is that I saw a majority of sour, screwed up faces . I rarely have encountered this since I have been in Mexico , if ever. Only 2 or so strangers spoke to me in the states vs many people daily here in Mexico, even if it is just a smile. THAT is so refreshing and is a testament to the spirit of the Mexicans that live here. The mean faces you encounter in the USA just puts a dark cloud over your day. The last time I had gone to GDL was back in 1980 with a couple of friends. Sadly, they both have passed on. I even loved it back then and I remember how green it was when we were arriving on the plane. I would even buy a Vacation Home there. My Neice and her boyfriend went in February, a month before and she loved it for her first time. Actually, her parents did not want her to go because of the violence they heard. Her boyfriend talked to them, who has family there and they let her go. She loved it and she wants to go back.

      From what I saw in the few days we were there yes it does seem like certain things are much cheaper. I also do think there is a major jump in prices out here in Merida. It was made more apparent when we were out in Guadalajara. It's actually getting a bit ridiculous with some items out here in Merida. The other day there was a local vendor at the park re-selling croissants made elsewhere at 80 pesos..... in Guadalajara we would find home made croissants and other high end baked goods at 20-30 pesos, 40 pesos if you wanted them filled with jam or cheese..... and they were 10x more delicious.... So yeah things are starting to get a bit outta hand out here in Merida.......

    Jose, After living here in Mexico for many years I agree with you that Americans have some negative myths and views of Mexico. I totally agree with you. Life is far from perfect here in Mexico. This is just one video of many I have made. I do talk about the negatives of Mexico in some of my other videos. The reality is that everyone is different and we all want different things and view things differently. At least for me and what i want out of my life I prefer living in Mexico. Happy to see this video posted! My favorite part of this area is: Tlaquepaque Guadalajara Don't try that fast three times..LOL :) So yeah I do NOT take insult to the fact the people are WAY more friendly than I am! I will admit that living in the USA for many years has made me LESS friendly and less inviting to strangers and with good reason... You are correct that we have been robbed of a much better lifestyle! my brother-in-law completed Medical School in Guadalajara ... but then he came back to the USA to practice medicine... apparently the education he got was adequate to help him pass the Medical exams needed in the USA to practice. I Love Mexico for many reasons. Thanks for this video.. looking forward to more from the area.

    I was in Guadalajara and I am not from US. I really impressed how people are happy there. But one thing I don't really understand how they build the relations or families. Each time I see the girls, they can meet with other boys in group of friends. And at the same time, they are happy to meet me. But I don't understand how respectful they are. I just lost connection with my family, and I don't understand if i find someone can trust them (girls). I have talked with one girl have a sex with me, and she is not from there. And she was talking with their friends and they offered her to meet with other boys even knowing we are couple with her. And she told me that It also means that it is normal to them to be in a big companies of people having a sex with each other and violate any agreement. It looks that they might be infaitful. In my culture it is not allowed and the partner means the person you can trust. That is not bad or good, it is just a different culture. And it confused me a lot. If someone can give any explanation, how is it there

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  2 місяці тому

      I think it might just be the girls you are meeting. Most Mexican women hold more conservative values when it comes to dating culture. But it really depends on the part of Mexico you are in. Remember the USA is right next door and there is a huge influence on culture from there as well. I do know that being unfaithful is a thing in Mexican culture but again it all depends on where you are originally from and what your own expectations are. This is not an extremely strict culture but it is also not a completely loose one either. Coming from the USA i find Mexican Culture around love and relationships to be very conservative, but if you personally are coming from an extremely conservative culture then you might find Mexico to be much more liberal than what you are used to.

I have many Americans reaching out to me and letting me know how they don't want to move to Mexico simply because they can not be strapped at all times for fear of danger and not being able to protect themselves. i really appreciate your honesty in letting the audience know exactly how safe it is out here in Mexico in most areas. So safe that you do not feel the need to be armed at all times. As a native born Floridian I know all too well what a mostly armed population looks like and it is not safe at all. Living in Mexico is a great option for one's mental health. My parents are looking to retire in some small town in Texas and they have to take into account MAGA people because we are Hispanic. I tell them that the Rio Grande Valley would be a great option and its cheaper. They would never move to Mexico like their son did but at least the RGV is a hybrid of both the US and Mexico. Living in Mexico one does not have to take into account the politics of the people around you. Mexicans do not wear their president on their sleeves nor put political offending bumper stickers on their vehicles. The most you will see in Mexico are general bumper stickers that read "PRI", or "PAN", etc. You will not see bumper stickers such as "I clean my gun with liberal tears." That is an example of bettering your mental health in Mexico! Peace out compadres and comadres!

There are many places in the USA that are labeled or considered very safe until you actually visit them and quickly realize how dangerous they actually are. I have never been to Xalapa but if you say it is a place with multiple universities then perhaps its not as dangerous as they make it out to be. I actually did a quick google search in Spanish on Xalapa and it seems to have an elevated amount of petty crime going on in the city but not necessarily dangerous. I don't hate the USA I am just very critical of it because I love it so much and want for it to be better. In the meantime I have found my happiness here in Mexico and I can not hide the fact that Mexico is much better in many categories these days than the USA. The main reason so many people from around the world seek shelter in the USA is due to all the free handouts that do not exist to that capacity anywhere else in the world. Also many of the immigrants who come to the USA are escaping really bad situations in their home countries. It's a complicated topic and too much to get into in this comment, but as I said before the main reason I am here and so many other Americans are moving to Mexico these days is because they are just going to where they are treated best and can have a better quality of life and that means something very different to many people. Thanks again for sharing with us.

      Most expats go to Mexico because they are treated better not necessarily because who they are but because they are of a higher financial status. Social classes exist all over the world and money talks and BS walks. The ultra poor in Mexico know of only a couple things, survival and upon where their next meal will come from. Yes, like in America and many countries around the world, there are many dark places. Mexico is not exempted. But I digress, and happy for you in a land rich in culture and diversity. God bless America and Mexico.

      I'm sure we will be fine out here in Mexico as most of the economy will help supply both sides of whatever conflict arrises. I only see Mexico getting stronger as the rest of the world gets weaker. Thanks for your concern and for sharing with us.

    While your comments about Guadalajara might be correct, you simply cannot do a service to the Mexican people of the entire country by stating that there is no poverty and everything is so perfect. Open your eyes and shut your mouth.

      You are right, if you watch the rest of my channel you get to see other parts of the country that are considered "poor" by certain standards. I never say things are perfect out here to the point where nothing goes wrong or that Mexico is an Utopia. I just point things out as I see them. In this video I was just walking around a certain affluent neighborhood in a very affluent city and basically bringing up the fact that as a foreigner we are led to believe this does not exist in Mexico. That Mexico is only poor and violent, which could not be ay further from the truth. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

    Just a talk, you have not shown anything that can show or proof that Mexico is rich country. Just talk without proof mean nothing

      I totally agree with you. No one should be listening to some random UA-camr without doing any research themselves. In fact you should google it or even search Wikipedia so you can see it for yourself. No need to take my word for it, you should research it yourself. Thank you so much for your insight.

    Yes, it’s beautiful. But please don’t put down America. Mexico can thank USA $$. Our Taxes paying for lots of stuff there. But Mexico is beauty. Drive away a few miles a you will find very humble poor areas. Enjoying videos. This place is prettier than where you live. I guess I won’t be moving there since they don’t want Americans to move there. Sad. This was a depressing video. I am a teacher and had wanted to tutor creative arts. Yep, seems you guys think all Americans are Lying. I did notice streets are in bad condition.

      @@JoseArteagaTravels Just remember many that watch your videos are from America and they may feel as insulted as I was. If u keep talking that way about Americans the !$ will stop as people won’t come. I would never talk about another country as you have on your past video. I have enjoyed watch for a few years but I won’t anymore. You might rewatch an listen to yourself. Not nice.

      @Swim136 As a newly retired U.S. citizen from a beautiful area in CA and a former exchange student to Guadalajara, I must respectfully disagree. I am not offended by what José says. I find much of what he says is simply factual. He is just not sugar coating, or trying to euphemize the way he states his thoughts. Now we also need to realize that the streets here, even in good areas will not be as groomed as they are in the U.S. People need to be adaptable, or moving here will not be a good fit. I am moving down to this area by the end of the year. That being said, I am proud to be an American who has had many advantages from the U. S. Unfortunately, my children are having a harder time living the American Dream in our current economic situation than my generation did. Simply put, I was not offended by anything Jose said and I’ve always loved the Mexican people since I was an exchange student here for the first time in 1978. I have returned and I still keep in touch with that same family all these years later. I find the Latin culture in general to be very warm and welcoming.
