  • NEW! Best Tactical / Military Survival Kit Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin
    The folks at Prepare-1 sent me the Best Glide ASE Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin to test out and review. I must say this kit packs a lot of useful items into a small compact easy to pack practical kit. In this video I open up the kit and lay out all the contents and I test a few items. As always I give my thoughts and a rating.
    You can purchase the Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin by visiting Prepare-1. I've enclosed a link to their website.

    Kit Spec's
    The Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin, and its civilian version, the Adventurer Pocket Survival Tin, are some of the best quality, true, pocket survival kits on the market today. We studied numerous government approved and non government approved kits, discarded the unreliable or unnecessary items, added numerous high quality survival items and came up with the Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin. We believe these are simply the best "tin" kits available, and we have seen a lot of kits over the years.
    If you are looking for a pocket survival kit that is cheaply made with the sole intent of maximizing profits for the manufacturer, like so many do, this is NOT it. That is simply not what we do. Our customers agree. The Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin is built to last in the most strenuous of situations, military service and combat.
    The Military Scout Pocket Survival Kit includes numerous genuine U.S. Military Issue/Approved items, NATO Approved items and items made in the USA. You simply will not find as many quality components in any other "tin type" survival kit. We urge you to compare ours to theirs.
    The Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin Kit comes sealed in a heavy duty laminate bag which prevents air, moisture and dirt from degrading the life of your survival kit. With this packaging, your Military Scout Pocket Survival Tin can be stored for years, ready for use at a moments notice.

    That wire saw is a "BOW SAW" and is meant to be used just like a "bow and arrow" but without the arrow of course. Just needs a stick you can bend.

    Excellent review! Considering its size, it contains all the necessary items for survival.
    Seems like it has a bit of extra room for paper, first-aid or another zip lock bag.

    One of the best kits I've seen for its size. Perhaps they could make a folding knife that would lock on to the bottom outside of the tin and sell it separate or with tin for extra.make sure it fits the dimensions of the tin though.

    Good review John. Thanks for making note about the toggles on the saw, a lot of people don't think to use toggles. Looks like all the basics are covered in one little kit. They did a good job putting that together.

    I think that you would need at least 3 tins. 1 for fire, 1 multi purpose, 1 1st aid kit. For survival an aid kit is important as untreated wounds will get infected.

    • @angelus_solus
      @angelus_solus 3 роки тому

      Umm...no. A single tin can contain a fully kitted out PSK with all the items you need to keep yourself alive for a few days. Your IFAK stage 1 (minor injury kit) should be on your belt in a small case, such as what EMTs store extra gloves in. First aid items do not belong in your PSK tin, and carrying enough fire kit to warrant its own tin is just overkill. After all, the entire point is to have something you can keep on you, no matter what you're wearing or where you're heading. It doesn't matter if you're walking the dog, out on a day hike, lost in the Arctic or desert or if you're ballroom dancing. Your kit stays with you.

    I really like this kit. 2 things. 1, I would put a couple of small cone shaped (or melita style) coffee filters to go w the h2o tabs and 2, if you find a curved branch and put a notch on either end thenn attach the saw to make a bow saw, you can fell a small tree. it works great like that. great vid ty.

    I have a suggestion on using the wire saws. Cut a green stick, roughly thumb-thickness or slightly more, preferably with a short 'Y' on one end (or cut a small notch). Cut a amall notch on the other end. Bend the stick into a bow and put the saw rings in the 'Y' and/or into the notches. You now have a bow saw that should be somewhat easier to use.
    I tried using a wire saw as you did, and it broke in half after a short time.

    Bingo! You have to go out and make sure you know how to use it. I've seen people with the type of survival kits that are sealed with foil over the top or in a plastic bag, great as you won't loose components but useless if you don't know how to use it. They're perfectly happy to just let them gather dust at the bottom of their kit as if it's some sort of insurance policy. People forget, these kits were designed originally for special forces, regular infantry and civilian kits were bigger. Are you feeling special forces confident without even looking at the contents?? I know I'm not!!

  • @angelus_solus

    Things I'd throw out: the ranger band, because two should be secured around the outside of the tin; zip ties, because a pair of 6 inch zip ties won't do enough to warrant their inclusion; the razor knife, because it's not good for anything other than cleaning fish and small game and picking splinters (the large folding knife you should have in your pocket will do that and more); the plasters, because first aid items have no place in your PSK (they belong in the minor injuries IFAK on your belt); the majority of that sewing kit; the pencil; the water tabs; the string, because a double cobra weave bracelet can easily hold 18 feet of 550; and that flimsy excuse for a signal mirror.
    What I'd add: a more substantial mirror; half a dozen more matches; the bobbin, needles and safety pins of the sewing kit; a few more bits of that tinderquik; a second wire for the saw handles; and a 1/4 x 3 inch vial of potassium permanganate (a few grains until the water turns a pale pink will kill any enteric bacteria or parasites). If you really think you need a note pad and pencil, secure a small stormsaf note pad and a longer pencil to the outside of the tin with the ranger bands. That would give you a good start. This kit as it is was just poorly designed.

    Nice kit there, i could see use in all of it but that one item. That is better to have then none, but personally they are total garbage. That is the wire saw. anyone that has used these more then twice have broken them. I have broken a few on the first time use. They heat up and snap, so great review and thanks for sharing.

    I like it! The mirror and magnifier are pretty neat additions too! I'm not so sure about the saw. I always seemed to break them or they got clogged with sap in soft pine. Maybe they're better now than when I used to play with them.

    • @Wingman115
      @Wingman115  10 років тому

      Dry pine I believe the saw would work fine as tested in the video. Green pine might be a issue but it's something that's better than nothing. I would use toggles in the rings as it was killing my fingers when sawing.

    • @kullcraven
      @kullcraven 10 років тому

      patriot those saws are better then nothing but are garbage bro, everyone who uses them more then twice break them. If you went super slow and not heat it up you might get away with it to make a couple cuts. Tho they are sold in alot of survival kits. This kit has alot of good points and a nice kit, despite the saw lol.

    • @Patriot36
      @Patriot36 10 років тому +1

      ***** Yeah, watched you go right through that dry one! I suppose that as long as it would cut through a limb that was larger than could otherwise be snapped / kicked off, it would be of benefit to have in the kit.

    I used some high quality ferrocerium rods, actually they look like mischmetal rods as someone else called, which can easily make lots of fire balls instead of sparks when struck. I also compared them with Light My Fire & Firesteel flint fire starters, hardly to find difference between them. The manufacturer of the rods can be found at www.sinosed.com, their website. Hope it helpful to you guys!

    • @angelus_solus

      No. Knives do not belong in your kit. They belong in your pocket along with the kit...and that was said by Les Stroud himself. Anything small enough to fit in that tin won't be sturdy or large enough to do anything other than gut a fish, trim your nails or cut a bit of twine. Carry a 3 to 3.5 inch large frame folder in your pocket and forget about the tweezers, toothpick and scissors. Trinkets have no place in a life or death survival emergency.

      Mine wasn't less money, because I used better kit, but it is personalised exactly to what I'd need and know how to use. You're right though, a person should make their own. Even this one has a lot of fluff and was poorly designed. Really, the kit laid out in the SAS Survival Guide is better than this!

      First aid items do not belong in your PSK. They belong in the stage 1/minor injuries IFAK kept on your belt in a small case, such as what EMTs carry spare gloves in.

    As soon as I saw that wire saw come out of the kit I knew this kit would be just awful and filled with all the gimmicky and unsuitable crap that 95% of these kits include. There are 3 types of wire saws like this: A heavyish weight one that looks like a small bicycle or chainsaw chain, a medium weight one that looks a bit like the one in this vid but with extra wires wrapped around the main line - and finally the almost smooth variety that usually snaps the very first time you use it. The real cream-of-the-crap type... like this one. Even if you are new to this kind of kit and aren't familiar with wire saws then *surely* you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see just how poor that knife is???
    Honestly, the only reason to buy a pre-build kit like this one is if you are brand new to outdoor pursuits and have never had any kind of kit before. At least that way you have *something* to use as the basis for a *good* kit that you can swap the crappy stuff out in favour of decent items that are actually fit for the intended purpose.
    Just my two pennies worth - but it bothers me that kits like these are so often given glowing reviews when they are just so, so blatantly damn awful.

    The title of this video is very deceptive . To call this item "military" in any way, shape ,or form is a flat out lie.

    • @Wingman115
      @Wingman115  9 років тому +3

      +fatraabbit1 Watch the video it say's so right on the label. And they do issue this kit so some military units... Do your homework before you start calling folks out..

    • @fatraabbit1
      @fatraabbit1 9 років тому

      The title of the video pretty much agrees when they put that question mark in it. It puts the question out there , "could this be military issue?". If it was , there would be a statement instead saying "Yes, this is military". Most everything in this kit can be bought on ebay to make this kit your self.

      @TheLobstersoup 9 років тому +1

      +noel5050 It was indeed better. I had to laugh when he saws off the branch of a size you can just break off. Yeah, great saw, heheh. This kit is too expensive at 35$. The Omega was only 20 or 25$ and had more and better content. However I don't think they are still produced,
