I have a MacBook Pro 8,1 (late 2011) running Sonoma 14.6 with OCLP 1.5.0 with no issues. I did upgrade the MacBook Pro with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and a SSD drive a few months ago. It works just fine - thanks to a lot of your recommendations and tips!

Just updated my iMac Retina 5K 27inch late 2014 (32Gb memory on board) to Sonoma 14.6. Thanks to OCLP 1.5.0 and your reassuring video 👏. I first used your system to put Ventura onto this Mac and then Sonoma 14.5. This is a GREAT machine (and I have been using Macs since 1980) so I couldn't be happier! Thank you Mr Macintosh!

I completed updated on my fleet. I performed each update the same way. Turned the Mac on, if they needed to, OCLP 1.5.0 installed itself. Then I ran the update from the system preferences. After the update, OCLP then was allowed to perform the post install patching. If the install went well, the notation is ILB - Installed Like Butter. All Macs have SSD's and have been cleaned with new thermal paste installed. All Macs have maximum memory installed.
2007 20" iMac - updated processor and wifi. - ILB. The install triggered the automatic download of the KDK's.
2009 13" White Polycarbonate MacBook - The install triggered the automatic download of the KDK's. The install of the post-install patches failed at first, but after restarting it, it went well. I am typing this comment on this machine.
2010 13" White Polycarbonate MacBook - ILB. This machine paused with a dark screen for a while, I left it alone and it eventually installed perfectly.
2010 21.6" iMac - updated processor, GPU (metal), wifi - ILB
2011 21.6" iMac - updated processor, GPU (metal), wifi - The same pause as with the 2010 MacBook above, but I restarted it. The second round of updating this went well - ILB.
    2012 13" MacBook Pro i5 - ILB
    2012 13" MacBook Pro i7 - updated wifi - ILB
2012 21.5" iMac updated processor, wifi - ILB
    2012 Mac mini i7 - ILB
    2017 27" iMac updated processor - ILB
I still have to update two 2015 iMacs but they are currently under use.
As for format, I like it. I like the order you produced the videos - macOS first, OCLP second. Just be sure to mention if we should wait for the second video before installing in case there are issues.

Successful upgrade on MBP 11,1 (Mid 2014, 16Gb RAM, SSD) from Ventura to Sonoma 14.6 using Software Update via System Settings method and OCLP 1.5.0. No issues so far. Performance seems better than Ventura and slightly improved Geekbench scores. Thanks again for your hard work helping to guide us through these updates!!

Running MBP Retina, 11,1. 13-inch, Late 2013, 2.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Intel Iris 1536 MB, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Mac SSD 500GB original! without a problem at 6 hours. Upgrade from 14.5 to 14.6, took over 2 hours to install from scratch. ( showed 35 minutes to go for about an hour). OCLP 1.5.0. post install menu was very quick, under a minute. Thanks so much for this extended life of my machine.

Hello, may i have your advice on how you did the update successfully- via system preference directly or building an usb drive with sonoma 14.6 installer and then upgrading your Mac by option-boot ? I got my MacBook Pro (mid-2014 13” in 14.5) stuck in the middle of the apple logo screen when updating (successfully downloaded via system preference and reboot then). Does it require “super long time” to complete this update as you mentioned it took you 2 hrs to install from scratch. Your feedback will be much appreciated and helpful. Thanks in advance.

The new format is great, thanks Mr Macintosh! Shortly after making a clean install of Sonoma 14.5 on my M1 MacBook Pro, it had a kernel panic for the very first time since I’ve owned it. Apple has made a real mess of Sonoma, so I’m not risking it with my baseline 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro, spank them very much! I’m saying on Ventura on that one.

MBP 10,2 (2012) w/ OCLP 1.5.0 here. Install took a couple hours. It was extremely slow after the final boot -- too slow to even log in. After a forced power off and restart, it came up just fine. After repatching all works as smoothly as before.

Hi Mr Macintosh great video. I am running a 13 inch 2017 MacBook pro. I had used a previous video to get Senoma 14.5 installed. As I am very new to the OpenCore patching process a suggestion for us newbies is to show the process of installing the 14.6 update and then the root patching process update for one device just so we have that conform what the process is. I know it is very basic now after doing it but it would have given me a little more comfort doing it. Please keep up your great work in this area I would not have attempted this with out your great videos.

I run my System and Apps on a 500G Samsung NVMe and my User folder on a 4T Samsung NVMe. I have 3- 4T Seagate drives in the bays for backups. This thing is a workhorse and I’ll keep it. It just loaded Sonoma 14.6 flawlessly.

Just updated my Late 2013 27" iMac. I already had the latest version of OCLP, so all I needed to do was apply Sonoma 14.6 and reapply OCLP patches after the update. Worked flawlessly. I did have the expected issue with NVIDIA (NVIDIA GeForce GTX) after installing Sonoma 14.6, but the OCLP patches continue to resolve the issue. Thanks Mr Macintosh!

Upgrade took about :50 minutes on my supported MacMini 8,1 (2018-2019) with no problems. Took about 1 hour on my MacPro 6,1 (2013-2019) trash cans. As with the last upgrades, the keyboard was extremely sluggish, and mouse was very unresponsive after the upgrade completed. A hard re-boot fixed that problem. The post install root-patches fixed the rest. The extra 10-minutes for the unsupported MacPro's was all for the extra boots and post-root patching. After that, everything has been working fine for the last two days. Thanks for the vid's r. Macintosh!

I have already OCLP 1.5 and Sonoma 14.5 installed recently.
To "upgrade" only Sonoma from 14.5 to 14.6, are there any differences, if "Upgrading" just from "Settings->General->Software Update", which should be supported with OCLP 1.5?
Will this download and run the Full Installer?
Or do I need to do the upgrade with the OCLP "Build and Install OpenCore" menu item, to download the "Full Installer" and run the downloaded installer then from the "Application" folder, to do the "upgrade"?
Or do I need to create a new USB media with OCLP 1.5 and with Sonoma 14.6 and "upgrade" the internal SSD then from there?
You only show the process starting to install it on the USB media and then to the internal SSD, but is that always needed?

Thanks for your hard work and dedication for this macOS community. Please make a new video tutorial with a clean, full installation of the latest macOS Sonoma version 14.6.1 on an unsupported Mac via a bootable USB. I have tried multiple times recently to clean install our Mac mini 6,2 or late 2012 without success on 14.6.1.
I have done multiple installs of various unsupported Macs with success but for some reason I keep getting an error for the 14.6.1 version and am unable to have a successful installation. Please help.
Is the OCLP download link for new software corrupted causing this? Thanks!

Excellent and informative video my man! Between you and Jessie's Flying I have learned sooo much about Mac's as I have only been a mac user for about three years and I have one question for you ... Before I proceed with the update, can you please push me in the right direction and give me a little guidance por favor on how to use time machine and back up my macos 14.4 properly so if something happens, I have a backup handy that I can restore and not have to start over from the beginning and avoid a kernal panic and lose my data accumulated since feb with sonoma. When I moved from monterey to sonoma on my mid 2010 mac pro 5,1 and backed up with time machine, then used migration assistant .. I ran head first into a massive brick wall and spent three days moving data and programs manually which was thoroughly exhausting. I will look out for your response to my comment and maybe we could have a little chat if that is possible. Thank you for your wealth of knowledge helping me to one day become a master mac user. GO TEAM DORTANIA!!!

Using MacBookPro11,1 (Mid 2014) 13 inch 8GB ram. After various issues with Sonoma I reinstalled Ventura. Sonoma had issues with my keyboard like inserting radom spaces when typing numbers; and, closing apps whenever. Yes Ventura also has these annoyances although not as often as Sonoma.
I also have an iMac 14,2 (Late 2013) 27 inch 16GB ram. The iMac runs Ventura but Opencore had an issue with Not installing the EFI on the boot drive. I'll try that installation again.

I’d like to point out a few things. The Arc browser does install on the patched system, but it doesn’t function properly-frequent tab crashes and high CPU & GPU usage cause the fans to run at full blast. Additionally, the ChatGPT app for macOS won’t install on the patched system, displaying a message that the hardware is not supported. For reference, I’ve installed Sonoma 14.6.1 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014).

mid-2010 13" macbook pro: installed MacOS Sonoma 14.5 using directions give by Mr. Macintosh in this video. Then upgraded from MacOS Sonoma 14.5 to MacOS Sonoma 14.6 starting from system settings. Takes a v e e r r y y long time and is completely successful and is mostly hands aside from responding to prompts BUT login and installing too patches requires USB 2 hub and USB keyboard and mouse.
Also, upgraded 15" early 2011 macbook pro running MacOS Ventura 13.6 to MacOS Sonoma 14.6 from system settings - much quicker than the above 13" macbook pro and able to login without the USB keyboard and mouse.

Updated my Mac Pro 6,1 from Monterey to Sonoma last night, only problem I had during the update was installing OCLP to the internal SSD. It was formatted as APFS to get Monterey installed a couple of days before and I decided to try out Sonoma before I got too much stuff on it. Needed to make a new FAT32 partition before I could ditch the USB stick for booting. Only issue I'vecom across since the upgrade is in Apple TV, I only have a few TV series purchased from Apple when I had an iPad. If I click on the stack of episodes it causes Apple TV to quit, clicking on play seems to work though.

I have a MacBook Pro, 13 inch, early 2011 Model ID: MacBook Pro 8,1 and currently I have Version 10.13.6 installed on it. I have been told by at least 4 different places that service computers that the OS can not be upgraded. From the different videos I have found and downloaded from UA-cam I am being led to believe that there is a chance I can upgrade over and above OS 10.15 Catalina. I have already upgraded the ram from 8 gb to 16. I do have a 256 gb ssd that I want to use to replace the 500 gb hdd. From the comments below, it sounds like I can have the OS upgraded from High Sierra to Sonoma. I understand OS Sequioa is coming out during the fall of 2024. Maybe I should wait.

I have encountered an issue consistently where downloading the installer to USB is not seen by the computer. I have had success by running the installer directly from the macOS desktop after downloading via the opencore patcher. Once I have the EFI patched it just seems to install like normal macOS, and I don’t even need the USB. All I have to do is run root patches after install. I tested this area from high Sierra all the way up to Sonoma. It Installs the same every time.
I also need to point out that OCLP 1.5.0 broke my previous MacOS install of Ventura so completely that I had to wipe it and start over. Something happened and it nuked all my boot files. I would like to request the ability to opt out of notifications regarding updates instead of it popping up every time I start my Mac or open OCLP.

Can I recommend doing a test run on a Macbook Air model (preferably early 2015+). I haven't seen any tests for MB Air models anywhere. I am currently running 14.5 and OCLP 1.5 and it performs okay but it definitely has some Safari, and overall system related* bugs where the only solution is to reboot the machine.

This Saturday me and my daughter are going to work on her Mid 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. Updated my iMac late 2012 (13,1) with Sonoma 14.6 and OCLP 1.5.0 and now have issues with the Ethernet cable connection working. Under networking in the control panel, Ethernet shows "not connected." The connection on the router no longer shows a link light. I have replaced the cable and did a complete clean reinstall of Sonoma 14.6 with the same results. The WiFi connection functions normally. Curious if other users that connect with an Ethernet cable have experienced any issues? I also just tried to see if the 14.6.1 update made a difference and it did not.

Oh no. I successfully updated my late 2012 Mac mini a couple of weeks ago to Sonoma 15.4 (note that I was unsuccessful for two days until I plugged the flash drive directly into the mini and NOT the USB hub I've used for years.) After having problems with MS Word today (I got a gray box instead of being able to highlight), I sadly hit the update button in the settings to update to Sonoma 16.1. I'm stuck. I tried reusing the old USB drive I used before, but I can't get the old girl to boot. None of the options in safe more give me more than a quarter bar of progress. Any thoughts?

Hi, I just upgraded to Sonoma 14.6 with a late 2008 aluminium MacBook (5,1). It all worked fine but at the end I lost all touchpad/keyboard functionality, and I see the open core pop up to update the post install root patches but I have no possibility to action the enter key... Unlike when I first moved to 14.3 and I had a similar situation I was able to use USB2.0 extensions and a wireless keyboard but this time there is no way... how do I solve this? I can see all is well installed but I just need to find a way to install the post install root patches...?

I have a MBpro late 2016, and recently purchased a Blackmagic eGPU Pro Vega 56 with 8GB RAM...
If I install the post install drivers, it kills the eGPU support. As I tested first, Installed a Monterey to an external SSD, and then I upgraded to Sonoma. It still handles the eGPU. But if I install the post install drivers with OCLP then the eGPU hub completely dissapeares. Can you pls help how to solve this?

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro with OCLP 1.5.0. I upgraded from Monterey to 14.6.1. That by itself went fine. Then when I ran OCLP Root Patching I got a lot of errors about kexts that could not be installed but it finished anyway. I rebooted but after logging in I had no WiFi and OCLP once again popped up to do root patching. When I did that I noticed rebuilding the kernel cache failed as it was unable to resolve some dependencies. I did not get any errors on WiFi/wireless. How do I tackle this? I saw some remarks on installing WiFi drivers but still am not sure what to do?

Mac Mini Late 2012, "An error occurred preparing the software update" triggered about 15 minutes to go in the install process booting and installing from the USB. Updating from 14.5 to 14.6 - It's completely munged now.
Update: As usual, user error. I went for a clean install and wiped the SSD but absent mindedly formatted it as APFS not macOS Journaled. GRRR! Wasted a whole day screwing with it. But all working now with a nice clean install.

Could that be the issue with the internal date needing changed? I recall seeing this issue on a forum with the solution, but I can't find it at the moment which required fixing the date via the terminal in safe boot mode just for the install, then setting it to the actual date, once the system is installed successfully.

@@flickwtchr Thanks so much. I tried it and the date was correct, but I discovered my own error - didn't format the SSD properly.

"The Volume is not compatible with this update" error going from Ventura to Sonoma 14.6 on Late 2012 iMac using Software Update via System Settings method and OCLP 1.5.0. Starts the download then gives the error. Confirmed it is APFS formatted NON-fusion drive. Anyone else with this problem? Will try Boot Installer method next. Was able to update Ventura to the latest 13.6.8 without problems.

Updated OCLP to 1.5.0 with macOS 14.3 previously installed; everything worked just fine. After upgrading to macOS 14.6 my 2013 iMac27 will not complete an EFI boot; hangs around 35% and the screen goes black. I am able to reboot in Safe Mode but have been unable to overcome this problem. Root Patching reports "internal error occurred" and apparently will not patch my Nvidia Kepler and Intel Haswell graphics files. Any suggestions to help me resolve this would be most appreciated!
Update: I have been able to resolve this problem by deleting a problematic kernel in the '/Library/Extensions/WavTap.kext/Contents directory then installing the OCLP Root Patches that previously would not update. Bingo - everything now works as it should. Hope this helps anyone else who may encounter this issue.
