Wow... Just came here from your 2 year old video and I have to say EVERYTHING about your videos has improved... We are talking: EDITING, SOUND, PACING, INFO DELIVERY... the works. Fantastic stuff... Upvoted.
Thank you so much for this absolutely incredible overview with such precision for so many Macs. I found your channel because I wanted to upgrade my Mac Pro 2013 to Sequoia and thanks to you now I am running 15.2!! Thank you so much!! The value you provided is extremely appreciated Jessie. Also as a Canadian who moved to Switzerland for 5 years in the beginning of this millenium your accent really touches me deeply. Take care!
Sticking with Monterey on my 2008 Unibody Macbook. When I no longer have a supported browser I will MX Linux this machine for its "retirement". 16 years of use is not bad at all.....
My dad used a 2007 iMac from early 2007 to 2023. It worked perfectly even though the browsers were probably risky to use at the age it was, but the hhd died and after already going thorough 2 of them we called it quits on that computer and just stuck with the 2011 MacBook Pro that we had aswell.. I still use that 2011 MacbookPro for anything music related. Works great and browsing still works fine. It’s on high sierra.
2012 Mac Pro still cursed with stuck on boot. None has an answer. Followed your video above and on the 1st restart and sticks ion about 29 lines of code. OCLP does not work on Mac Pro. Monterey is the only stable OS for Mac Pro as the same issues arose in Previous OS also.
@@mecongberlin I bought a mid 2011 iMac as needed something with a firewire port for an old camcorder to connect to so I can capture the tapes. Went the Linux route as wanted to write a little program to automate the capture/conversion to MP4 process as didn't want to sit there supervising it. I also replaced the HDD with an SSD and installed Ubuntu and let me tell you what a great machine it turned out to be. I now use it in the garage for when I'm in there and need to look up something. It's so snappy for everyday browsing. Everything worked as expected apart from the fans which blew at max speed but that was fixed with a line in the terminal, nothing you can't find from a google search. If you've never had Linux before then Linux Mint is supposed to be one of the most beginner friendly versions. Give it a go!
I've got a MacBook Late 2011, I7 Dual Core, 16 GB RAM. I was using Ventura and it was pretty smooth. However, I made the huge mistake of upgrading it to Sequoia. It doesn't share contents on Meet, Teams and any other meeting platforms any more. It was a mistake because I use it a lot (teaching online). I'll soon get back to Ventura. Thanks for clearing up my doubts about this! Nice video. Cheers from Brazil.
Thanks for sharing, I have a 27 inch 2011 iMac with 2GB video card that i want to upgrade to ventura... so the comments on this video really make me think about it. but reading you... i Might give it a try. This is the 1st video I see comparing different computer which is fantastic!!! congrats to Jessi for the idea. I will review his other videos just to see what happen with ventura since I am not able to find the same comparison for Ventura I am taking your comment as a good feedback.
Hey, How did you managed to work your external display with your MB? I tried using Mini-DP to HDMI, adapters and dongles, still no signal. Note: my dGPU isn't fried up
Upgraded a friends 2015 MBP 8 gb ram to a 1TB nvme but before the swap I installed Sequoia wiping everything before doing so. I tested it for a week and everything works but you can just feel the struggle with basic tasks. I could live with it but my friend is not a "tech person" so he didn't care either way. In the end, I setup the 1TB nvme with Monterey and gave it back to him. Maybe the 8 GB of ram was the issue but it's his main computer. I'm using Sonoma on my 2014 mac mini 8 GB ram and again, you can feel the delays with windows (like finder) and UA-cam is not as smooth but the trade off is worth it to me. Appreciate this video!
The most thorough walkthrough I have witnessed thus far. Thank you Jessie. Now i know what to look out for as I am concidering a Macbook pro for the first time. Windows/Linux user, curious about Apple.
HAMMER Jessie!! Wie immer von Dir TOP interessantes Video! Herzlichen Dank dafür!!👍👍👍👍 Habe meinen iMac Late 2015 27" dank Deiner tollen Instruktion absolut ohne Probleme auf Sequoia upgedatet! Und läuft Top ohne jegliche Probleme! BRAVO! Auch Update 15.0.1 no problem!
As a developer back in my days I have to say it is sick that simple app like keynote is hardware dependant. Architecture of any computer did not change from the beginning. It is still hardware->OS->app. If you can install OS and it is working there is no reason that any app could not run. With one exeption or may be two like Corel or Adobe products.
@@MrThinkMaker , Apple knows how to render hardware unusable for its software. They need to be sued for it, for everything they do making fully working devices obsolete, turning them into landfill.
One crucial point you really should consider including is the importance of installing "h264ify" extension if you are using Chrome browser on an older machine without VP9/HEVC acceleration. This will automatically select the h264 format for youtube streaming, which can be hardware accelerated- as opposed to the default software acceleration of VP9/HEVC which comes at an enormous performance penalty for these older machines.
2011 iMac: install a metal capable quadro 3000m or similar with flashed bios and problem solved. I have mid 2011 iMac i7 3.4ghz 24gb ram and k3000m 2gb flashed Dell gpu, just installed Sonoma and since I am a music guy, installed Logic11 (which was mentioned by many users as glitchy on unsupported macs) and it works like charm. Probably the metal capable gpu helps and you somehow forget to mention that. You can easily upgrade those iMacs with metal capable gpu with the linux pendrive SSH method.
Thanks vor video. 🙏 I am so happy. I just got 15" 2012 MBP and it works so well and so fast on 15.1. Just trying to figure out AirDrop. For 80 bucks with 16 GB RAM it is steel.
Great Video Jessie - thank you for all your help so far. My 2013 Trash Can 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 with 64gb RAM and AMD FirePro D700 6 GB graphics is great on 15.0. I had the Chrome block colour issue for a few previous OS versions also but turned off graphic acceleration in Chrome settings and it is fine. Not seen any issues with 4K UA-cam etc.
The problem I noticed so far with sequoia on a MacBook Pro mid 2012 is with adobe apps. Adobe calls for certain hardware only found in the latest Mac models and won’t even install on the mid-2012 MBP. Being a video guy, this was the deal breaker for me. Other than that, there’s a lot I like with the install. New cosmetics and features are great. If you’re using your Mac to watch videos, write emails, browse the internet, it’s a great way to prolong the life of your Mac.
@JessiesFlying Amazingly, it still runs the most up to date version of Ableton Live 12! So you can pretend to be Skrillex for the price of lunch at McDonald's. 😄
Thank you Jessie, just to let you know I've just flawlessly upgraded my system running Sonoma 14.7 with OCLP 2.0.2 to Sequoia 15.0.1 through system preferences OTA update procedure. It was easy as usual and for now I haven't found any issue. @@webg3brasil mine’s also 2012 air (4gb ram) with macos monterey. Works good, but some apps stutters alot like Musics app and sometimes the trackpad got unresponsive and I have to shutdown using the keyboard. If the trackpad problem is resolved, then the macbook air 2012 would be perfect (almost)
@@MTN1601 I solved this problem here, (actually I didn't have it) with macOS Monterey. I'm using just one kext with OpenCore 1.0.2, if you want I can pass you my EFI and you can apply it to yours, I don't use another one because I changed the Wifi card (AirPort) to one from an Air 11" 2015.
Great video, thanks for your work. My 2cents from my experience with my devices: the 2015 MacBook Pro 15inch with the AMD R9 handles 4K well and my Mac Pro 5.1 runs also very well. Both machines run significantly better with Sequoia than Sonoma. 5.1 had graphical glitches on Ventura, got stuck in a bootloop in the installation of Sonoma, Sequoia just runs fine. Only thing is that the webcam isn’t working on the 5.1 (MacBook works) but I think that can be figured out. On Sonoma my MacBook never woke up correctly and didn‘t shut down at all. Sequoia also fixed all the troubles.
@@jasonreisinger4959 actually no, I downgraded to Sonoma and the camera worked and in the meantime I am back to Monterey on my MacPro 5.1 because I upgraded to a RX6800.
12:48 Solution: For those who are having a freezing issue with Chrome, wait for a few minutes, then select Chrome Menu > Preferences > System > Use graphic acceleration when available > OFF. Re-run Chrome and it works normally.
Hi Jessie, had the same problem with my beloved trash can (nuclear reactor for some of us) running Chrome. After at least one hour of digging the net, I found the solution - disable the hardware acceleration in Chrome, Settings, System and relaunch Chrome. My workaround was to install Chrome Canary (it's working somehow), open the Settings - System, then open the normal Chrome, and blindly open the same Settings, System and finally click (blindly again, but you can see the cursor changing) disable and relaunch. I had to make both windows exactly the same size on the screen, for "precision". Maybe is not the best solution, but it worked for me and I'm very happy with Chrome, as before. Didn't try to re-enable the hardware acceleration, might be working again(???). And for everybody's info, my D700s are feeling very well! Even when running games in Bootcamp. Thank you so much for all your effort in helping us with our old Apple stuff.
Not sure why, but my previous reply was auto-deleted :) Long story short - to avoid blind navigation you can run Chrom from macos shell using the following argument: --disable-gpu "$@" You still need to disable GPU acceleration in chrome setting to make the change permanent.
I've got 3 'vintage' Macs running Sequoia. A late 2009 imac (core 2 duo) a mid 2011 imac (i5 2400s) and a mid 2012 mac mini (i5 3210m). The 2009 imac runs Sequoia fairly well but chokes watching youtube videos (without h264ify enabled) or if I've got more than 4 or 5 tabs open in Safari, even thought it has 12gb of ram. The 2011 imac runs Sequoia flawlessly but the practically non-working bluetooth and non-metal gpu (terascale HD6750) really let this thing down. My mac mini with 16gb ram and dual 500gb ssd's gets along in Sequoia pretty well but definitely feels a bit slower than my 2011 imac, the geekbench 6 scores prove it with the multicore score being almost half of what my 2011 imac gets (881 vs 1546). The mac mini has an edge though with proper metal support and working bluetooth
Just have to say that I have a mid 2012 Mac Pro (5,1) as well as a mid 2012 MacBook Pro (15"). The Mac Pro has a flashed RX580 GPU, 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processors, as well as a 6 port USB 3.0 card. Both are currently running Sequoia 15.1 via OCLP. One the things I really like about the 5,1s is the almost insane amount of storage that can be installed. I have two 1gig SSD's (one with Monterey and the other with Sequoia) a DVD, and 3 internal HD as well as two external connected via the USB3 hub for a total of 34 TB total storage. I use the Pro for general web stuff, e-mail as well as for photo corrective work from high resolution scans of negatives/tx that go back to early 60's. Also corrective/enhancement of old DVD shows. Works just fine - am sure that newer machines would do some of this faster, but no big deal. Why spend thousand's of dollars for a bit quicker unit?
@@JessiesFlying True - but don't have it on all day:). And at 79 ain't gonna live long enough to use in power what a replacement would cost. + not sure it would be as reliable. Hi Jessie, great work here! Thank you...! A couple of nuances that could help people are the following. The 2014 & 2015 MacBool Pro A1398 have two main variants: 1. 2.2GHz, 2.5GHz or 2.8GHz quad i7 with Iris Pro 5200 integrated graphics as you tested and 2. Radeon R9 M370X option in the 2015 and GeForce GT 750M in the 2014 (2.5GHz or 2.8GHz both years, same quad core i7 CPU). Additionally, the 2014 models have NVMe PCIe 2.0 x 4 lane SSD expansion while the 2015 models have PCIe 3.0 x 4 lane SSD expansion (and will accept some PCIe 4.0 cards). So, a new third party SSD will greatly improve ALL of the load time benchmarks. I'm not sure Geekbench 6 will be much different overall, but some apps may really benefit from the dedicated GPU options. I will do some testing here (I'm typing this on a 2015 MBP 15" 2.2GHz with integrated graphics and Sequoia 15.01 with OCLP 2.02 and a 3rd party PCIe 3.0 x 4 SSD and everything works flawlessly). Then the 2016 & 2017 A1708 (2 Thunderbolt 3 ports) should also be tested separately since they also have an upgradeable SSD and no touch bar/T2. Both core i5 and core i7 versions.
Great Job and many thanks for testing and sharing your Knowledge with us. I will not update from 15.0 to 15.0.1 because there is no benefit. Waiting for the next release and - that’s for sure- update after your advise. Dankeschön!!
OCLP a great opportunity for vintage Apple computers, thanks for the inspiring video Jessi. I should add that after installing Seqouia 15.0.1 on my Macbook Pro 13” Early 2015, the battery drain is a bit faster. Probably the OS is optimized for Apple Silicon processor better than x86.
Installed Sequoia on my mid 2011 imac after I upgraded to the Max Ram and no issues. As long as I can work with Microsoft Office documents thats all that matters to me since I am planning to obtain a Mac Mini. It surely adds a few more years and it comes down to what one intends to use it for.
now i know, fresh install to Sequoia on my MBP 15" 2016 will cause touchbar (ESC gone, thanks to Pock for bring me back ESC btn ) and Touch id not working, now i want install ventura and then install updates to sonoma-sequoia thank you for your effort, Awesome! 🔥

@@AllLifeClothing Yes, you need to upgrade to Ventura first. After that, you can update to Sequoia using the Software Update feature. If you upgrade from Monterey → Ventura → Sequoia via Software Update, the Touch Bar and Touch ID will work properly. However, do not upgrade directly from Monterey to Sequoia or Sonoma, as these operating systems do not include the old firmware. The cheesegrater cold boot time is hugely affected by the amount of RAM! When I cranked mine up to 96gb from (16?) the time shot through the roof. Everything after that is awesome though.
Hi there ! You might wanna try different sticks at different places, my 2010 dual cpu was doing the same thing, I swap some sticks around and it boots (on nvme) quite fast now. cheers
@@williamlafrance2514 - I'm running 3 in each side (dual Xeons), and pretty sure I stacked them in the right order. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it takes a LONG time to boot. Just that it takes LONGER to boot from when I only 16g's, so that factors in.
I know you said it's impressive but are there any flaws I should know about? Is it still performing ok? what about wireless connectivity? I'm upgrading my base 2014 mbp to sequoia and I'm scared I will regret it. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
@ you need to install the root patches after the update. It will then reboot and wireless all works just as good as before. I haven’t had any issues. It’s on the slow side but that’s just due to it being 11 years old now and modern programs being more complex

I finally got round to testing Open Core yesterday after I received an iMac 27 2013, I always avoided it on production Macs. I really should have tested it on my Mac Mini 2012 which was my server as I needed the latest version of OneDrive. The iMac is a base model with the i5-4750, 1Tb HDD which I immediately upgraded to 16Gb of RAM. I wanted to test MacOS 15 worked before upgrading. I was shocked when everything actually worked perfectly, yes the HDD doesn't give great performance but its usable for UA-cam etc. I've just ordered a service kit, Core i7-4771 and PCI-E adapter. This will be my new workbench Mac. Trying the Mac Mini 2012 now... It's the top end i7-3720QM, 16Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD so I'm expecting better performance.
Sequoia 15.1 tested on Mac Pro 5.1 2010 and 2012 6 core and 12 core. All stable. Temps are fine. Straightforward install. Naturally USB support is needed as always prior to post root patch install. Bluetooth, wifi etc all functional. Zero issues to report. Temps are high on initial install due to 1st run indexing.
I have a iMac Retina 5K 27-inch 2017. I updated OCLP to 2.1.0 and then ran Apple 15.1 update. After startup OCLP ran Post-Install Root Patch and rebooted. Zero problems.

12:49 I had the same issue with macOS Sonoma on a 2013 Mac Pro, what happened is when I launched the app for the 1st time nothing happened, I used it like normal, and after I closed the app and turned off the Mac Pro it started to glitch like that, I couldn’t force quit the system at all so the best way I could get out is a force shutdown
Hello, the problem you experienced with Chrome on the Mac Pro 2013 Trashcan is not new with Sequoia. I have been suffering it on Ventura for few months (not sure in Sonoma as I did not like it so went back to Ventura). The problem happens to me with Chrome and also with Spotify and not always goes red, it sometimes go pink and some others goes white. My system has dual D500. Something interestign with the problem is that in my case the problem goes away with time. Yes, yes, curious as it is, if I kill the process and wait for at least one hour or two, Chrome and Spotify start and work normally. The problem ALWAYS manifest itself after a reboot, when the apps open themselves. I then kill them, go away with my life using Firefoxx and Safari and iTunes and whenI get back to them after a while, they work fine. hope this helps.
My 2011 MacBook Air is already pretty slow on Monterey just barely passable, I couldn't imagine pushing it all the way to Sequoia. The upside is that it runs really well on Linux, and I don't just mean running Openbox or another window manager, it is snappy with full desktop environments like Cinnamon and KDE, though I turn off a bunch of animations and whatnot. There is enough extra horsepower under Linux to stream to the device so it was a very surreal experience to play Cyberpunk 2077 at a full 60 frames a second on max settings with a Dualshock 4 controller on my ancient MacBook Air with no noticeable delay despite using wifi for the stream and bluetooth for the controller. Sadly under MacOS no matter the version I try the screen just turns green when I try steam streaming and I get audio only no matter what settings I use. I really feel like if I had 8gb of ram MacOS and Linux performance would be alot closer, I really wish there were a way to upgrade it.
Wow! Thank you for all that work you do to test them! You mentioned that MacBook Air 2013 is on edge…. I have been working with it on Sonoma since it was out months ago, very well, and just recently started getting weird and super slow with three tabs open. Which one would be better? Big Sur? Thank you! ❤
The 2013 and 2014 MBAs works just fine when they have 8GB of ram... the i7 versions handle many tasks faster than 2015 13" MBPs because it pushes way less pixels with the non-retina display. That said the i5 versions are significantly more sluggish than the i7s. Another thing to remember is that the SSDs in the air are slower and there is a difference from 2013 to 2015, so for testing how they compare properly, you need to upgrade the air SSDs. An i7 MBA 2013 with a fast 4K NVME ssd can boot Sequoia to the login screen in less than 50 seconds.
@@OPM_Viking I chose the OpenCore screen to prevent the automatic wait time to be included in the boot time. And the Mac Pro 2012 for instance has a way longer time until the OpenCore selector depending if a SSD or NVMe is installed
@@JessiesFlying True. It can differ a lot. Boot time is also less affected by the drives than app startups. Cold start of apps and wake from sleep/hibernation are the ‘best’ metrics for real world disk snappiness tests 👍
Dear Sir: I have a Macbook Pro 8,1 from early 2011. I replaced the battery and upgraded the ram from 8 to 16 gb and have High Sierra on a 512 gb hard drive and Sequioa 15.1 with the latest OCLP on an 256 gb SSD. While the maps app does not work with Sequioa I do not mind since I rarely use that but I can plug the other drive into a USB port and in this way I can dual boot. I did eventually find out that the Macbook Pro I have has a non metal gpu otherwise known as Sandy Bridge. Right now I am contemplating using a couple of different Linux OS on USB with this computer because of the Intel cpu. In this video it was sounding like Mac's older than 2012 will have trouble running Sequioa.
After updating to Sequoia I had a problem with my 2017 iMac 27 5K going nuts with the fan after startup. I found out it was due to an old external SSD (the lights on the drive was runnning crazy). Somehow the new system did not "like" that drive. As soon as disconnected the drive the fan issue stopped. Just to your info if others experince the fan issue too.
MacBook Air 2013, but with the I7 and 8 GB of RAM. Installed it from scratch yesterday and it does work decently - haven't tried everything yet but seems to be fine. Not the fastest, but still OK.
Lastly, the 2017 MacBook Air with 8GB and core i7 2.2GHz CPU are a good test case...this unit also has upgradeable PCIe 2.0 x 4 lane SSD that can be upgraded to a faster version (but limited to PCIe 2.0 speeds) than stock
I have, amongst more older Macs, the MacBook Air 2013 variant with a Core i7 processor and 8 GB RAM. and SSD. I wonder if that could do the trick, looking forward to the test with the MacBook Pro 2012 and memory reduced to 4 GB. There is no need for me to upgrade from Sonoma to Sequoia I am happy the way these older Macs perform with OCLP, just curious to know ... Thanks for the extensive testing anyway, much appreciated . 😎
I really appreciated you do all this work, spending many hours and days, to bring us useful info how to upgrade our 'EOL' devices. I watched many of your video's, but I didn't recall that there was a video on upgrading an earlier install of MacOS where also OCLP was used. So what are the steps to upgrade i.e.Monterey to Sequoia? Can I just use the upgrade function of the MacOS, or is a complete new install necessary?
@@tv175s3 yes, simply update via system settings (after having installed latest OCLP). Check my video here (I’m updating the Mac Pro): Tips & Tricks to install macOS 15 Sequoia on UNSUPPORTED MACs! ua-cam.com/video/uxC_pCm7pzA/v-deo.html
I've got the Trash Can 12 cores processor with 64 GB RAM and D300. Same problems you discribe. In Sonoma run Affinity Photo v2 without problems, after upgrade to Sequoia still works but there is a long time charging, almost one minute, after this lapse run normally. Topaz AI makes flickers but do the job well.
So I upgraded to Big Sur using the the lightweight tool for MacOS download and bootable USB creation. All went well with Big Sur upgrade, i then saw 15.2 Sequoia is available for download through updates which I did. I’m now experiencing some strange texturing and lag on the display. I know it was working fine as I got it with Sequoia installed when I bought it second hand. However i’ve formatted for safety and was totally ignorant to Sequoia unsupported then. Any help on the laggy display and textures issues would be super
After a mistake with Ventura (stable and efficient), I had to reinstall the operating system using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.0.2. I thought Sequoia might work on my Mac Pro 6,1 (Trash) - 3,5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 - AMD FirePro D500 3 GB - 64 GB RAM. After a clean installation without issues, I followed the instructions up to the post-install root patch. The Mac seemed to function well, at least for the first reboot. I also installed some utilities and enjoyed exploring new features. Everything seemed stable. However, on the next reboot, after a few minutes, the Mac would freeze, displaying the spinning globe cursor until it completely locked up. After several attempts, where the same problem occurred (stable during installation but crashing in subsequent reboots), I tried installing Sonoma, but the result was the same.
@@JessiesFlying Yes, I believe so. It's likely that the AMD FirePro D500 3 GB graphics card is not well supported by OCLP. Also, I noticed that the problems arise right after I connect an external 1TB drive to update it - and this was also a bit troublesome with Ventura. Thank you for your constant generosity. Best regards!
Jessie, when are you going to post a new video? OCLP 2.1.0 and Sequoia 15.1 have already been released. Would be good to know what you think about these updates.
The settings indicate an available update. It says Sequoia 15.01 with an 'update' button visible and ready to click. The button is greyed out and doesn't respond when clicked. I'm perfectly happy with Sequoia 15.0 so not worried about it, was more interested in case any other users may have experienced a similar issue. My MBP is running 16gb of Ram. Thanks for all you do on this channel, I use it all the time and I appreciate all your efforts.
Issue with the Chrome is from OCLP 2.0.2. I'm still on Sonoma and after OCLP update I got the problem with Brave and Chrome you've described in the video. Hope they gonna fix it in the next update.
Loving the channel I have a 2013 TrashCan MP and I have exactly the same thing occur with Microsoft Edge come in all red as you found. This follows as they are both chromium-based browsers. Interesting opera works just fine. I also suspect the OCLP chaps need to look at the graphics drivers, I have noticed a degradation from sonoma in terms of image quality.
Just a silly question when you install sequoia on unsupported iMac. I have 2017 5k one once you are running sequoia will you get new system updates from Apple or you still need to hack it further??
The 2013 trashcan mac pro had the Chrome issue since Sonoma 14.6 I think. It does freeze but is not totally unusable. I usually have to quit all the chrome processes and wait a bit to get Chrome to work. The graphics acceleration setting in Chrome doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Once I have it working I make sure not to quit HAHA
I have sleep and wake failure when using sonoma/sequoia. Basically, it sleeps the display and never responds again. The display somehow sleeps with its display shining bright. I saw 4 GB sonoma videos that run normally, so i took the risk and this is what i get. Wallpaper doesn’t load at all in sonoma. Sequoia shows a sequoia tree image but in safe mode, it doesn’t load. Re: 2011 iMacs: I thought the 2011 iMac’s were basically unusable upgrading past High Sierra (with OCLP) without replacing the GPU with one that supports Metal (making them uneconomical and therefore write-offs)? I can live without Dynamic wallpaper and maps and even Safari. Most people just use (or can just use) Chrome for everything they do. Is there hope for my stockpile of 2011 27” iMacs after all? :) FYI they make great 2.5k monitors with the HDMI to LCD converters you can get (although still marginal economically).

Sticking with Monterey on my 2008 Unibody Macbook. When I no longer have a supported browser I will MX Linux this machine for its "retirement". 16 years of use is not bad at all.....
I used my Mac Pro 2006 until 2019.. :D

One crucial point you really should consider including is the importance of installing "h264ify" extension if you are using Chrome browser on an older machine without VP9/HEVC acceleration.
Thank you for the video, that explains it, I will try Big Slur on an external hard drive, since is a little faster then internal drive.

Big Sur? Thank you! ❤
@@fantasticprincipessa I think Big Sur or Monterey should be better in that 2013 Air…
*Boot time is from the push of the power button - not the selector

@@garyjene9146 they do but there might be setups that work as yours for example

Check my video here (I’m updating the Mac Pro):

@@thedigitalnix after every update you need to reinstall the root patches again for graphic acceleration and so on…
After a mistake with Ventura (stable and efficient), I had to reinstall the operating system using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.0.2.
Seems like a hardware issue then… 🤔
@@JessiesFlying Yes, I believe so.

Excellent video. It's time to retire my 2012 Macbook Pro with macOS. I'm going to install Linux.
Just a silly question when you install sequoia on unsupported iMac. I have 2017 5k one once you are running sequoia will you get new system updates from Apple or you still need to hack it further??
@@gwardek86 you can update as with a supported Mac, but you need to do the root patching after every update
Why is the display is running but turned off?

Re: 2011 iMacs: I thought the 2011 iMac’s were basically unusable upgrading past High Sierra (with OCLP) without replacing the GPU with one that supports Metal (making them uneconomical and therefore write-offs)?
