  • Today on The Sword and The Trowel, Tom Ascol and Graham Gunden talk with Jared Moore about his book: The Lust of the Flesh - Thinking Biblically About "Sexual Orientation," Attraction, and Temptation. There has been much debate recently about the Bible and homosexuality. Does the Bible prohibit homosexual desires? Are temptation and sin the same? They also discuss the reluctance from some Evangelical leaders to admit that they have gotten this issue wrong in the past and seek forgiveness.

One person that supported Living Out was Tim Keller. He spoke at their events and even called it a great organization.

22:55 I had not heard that about Rachel Gilson. I read her book. That is very disheartening.

It came up before SBC convention(or some sbc related conference) with some people warning about her views when she was listed as a speaker

Are temptation and sin the same?!?
Definitely not, if u act on the temptation, then yes it becomes sin 🙌🏼🙏🏼✝️

      External temptation? True.
Internal Temptation is based in our desires. A desire to sin is sin. The Sermon on the Mount addresses precisely this issue. Anger is the same as murder. Lust is coveting.
The desire to sin is sin.

@@shawngillogly6873 Yes that’s correct but has nothing to do with my comment but okay

Temptations occur due to our desires good or bad.. I can have a desire to go buy this car but I KNOW if I do this ima be in depth but I want it so bad.. I’m so tempted to go buy it everyday I feel tempted to go buy it and buy it.. I know that’s it going to be bad if I do but I desire this car so bad.. obviously this isn’t pursue “sinful”because I’m using as an example but my desire to get this car I know is wrong and because my wrong desire is strong it’s followed with wrongful temptations.. so to break it down. To have sinful desires followed by temptations.. still sinful. Without the desire there would be no temptation.
If that desire isn’t in your heart anymore then there would be no temptation. Simple. Sinful desire=sinful temptations and if acted of course sinful as well.

I found Matthew Roberts' book Pride to be very good on this topic. He's much more charitable too.

Then why did Paul tell us that not all sin leads to death? Your understanding is incorrect!

      Perhaps your understanding is uncorrect.

@HearGodsWord I meant to say John. And he did say that not every sin leads to death read it. And there is no such word as uncorrect if you want to say something to me. Please consider learning how to spell correctly. Thank

@EGGSOJESUS1963 like I said, it could be you that's not right. Your reply doesn't really add anything, not that your original comment had much to it either.

@@EGGSIJESUS you question my spelling, but you got confused between Paul and John, which is quite amusing 🤣

@@EGGSIJESUS Not all sin leads to death because Jesus cleanses His people of sin. Tp those who reject rhe gospel, sin leads to death.
