    man , theres a lot of experts in the comments here.. " use a hub motor for 13kw " yea because those are available at walmart right ...
    ..2 misconceptions taking place, 1 they dont understand how slow a stand up scooter generally is , 2 , they dont understand how fast this is .. I had 8,000 watts on a kids dirtbike , and it was quick with 2 people on it.. I cant imagine 13kw on a standup geared for 50.. nice work

    • @RexSmithII
      @RexSmithII  3 роки тому +1

      I agree,
      Hubs are more for convenience, unless you get a very expensive qs hub motor for motorcycle, but it still lacks the start tq and it has unwanted weight where you don’t want it, but super easy to install (no chain).

      The lg chems 60ah cells?
      There good, I got a good deal on a pallet of them, so I arranged a few builds around them.
      The cells in this video had the most capable discharge output but horrible weight density. The orange dirt bike has the best overall cells for size and discharge rating, but cost a lot more because I bought them already in packs, all I had to do was wiring 3 packs in series and wire in the BMS and done...

      @@RexSmithII I thought you might. If you're looking for a new build, there's a scooter/bike I've always wanted to see someone try to recreate as an electric one, a Cushman model 53a. It was something Cushman made for the US army in the 1940s and was air dropped onto the battlefield for troops to use to make getting around easier. Looking at them, it shouldn't be too difficult to make as an electric one, just put all the batteries in the bottom tray section, as you did with this one. 😉 Plus, the Cushman model 53a has a seat. 😁

    Great project Rex... much thanks! Yeah agreed... the word 'scooter' has lost all relatable, coherent meaning now... even adding words like 'all-terrain' electric 'kick' scooter doesn't really crack it either for obvious reasons.
    However, what is enduring is the unique step on/off, stand-up convenience regarding the lowest point of gravity transport for any form of vehicular transport so far. That conventional 'scooters' are particularly so well suited to electrical 'power' development... as you (and many others) so clearly demonstrate with this astonishingly 'mental' prototype now means the word 'scooter' has clearly become redundant! Example: Love the name 'Lytehorse' for the 4x4 all terrain 'stand-up' vehicle... or is that an off-road 4 wheel drive scooter... who even knows but standing on a horse doesn't sound quite right either?
    You guys in the states are usually pretty good at coming up with appropriate names for new 'things'... not always of course... alternatives to conventional etymology/grammar like your word 'nomalcy' over normality for instance is particularly annoying for us 'old' English teachers! Hoho!
    Perhaps the ultimate futuristic dream is a 'contactless' ground hugging, step on/off hover style transport (scooter?) which can take any form/design that any unique individual prefers/wants at any given time (**choice**) regarding speed, terrain, convenience, style and even age! Conversely, are we ready to leave terra firma so quickly... personally I doubt it!
    Still love the idea that we have the increasing ability and available tech to DIY ever improving prototypes of non-fossil fuelled forms of both convenient and radical transport visions! Crack on Rex... you have the voice for UA-cam too mate! SUBD... time others SUBD here too by the looks of it!
    Although you clearly resisted putting a seat on this astonishly powerful prototype your big motor and housing indicated otherwise... having the ability to sit down whilst calmly negotiating those conventionally 'unscooterable' steep hills would have been perfection for me... bigger/fatter wheels/tyres too perhaps!
    I'll play catch up now and find out how you've got on since 2020!

    Man, thats a bad ass scooter for sure... but the entire safety and function of the machine has a *GIGANTIC* issue; the welds. No, you dont have to preheat aluminum before you weld it - infact, by doing that to the plate alluminum that you used, it absolutely destroyed the heat treat in the base metal. You should get those welds replaced before ride it anymore, They're going to fail, garaunteed.

    Amazing project, I noticed you used hub motors in the first video ( or is this a different scooter lol) I watched then 2nd video you use chain driven, can I ask what is better?, I am actually upgrading a electric scooter myself only putting new motor battery an controller, More power an speed, lol, Can I ask if it was expensive for the motor battery an controllers you used, You giving me ideas for my scooter, Amen for that mate, See I am having issues finding the right motor for it, I wanted 3000w to 5000w coz if police seen me blowing at high speeds on a scooter they will take it off me, Already been stopped by a blue light on my 1600w lol, They kool tho as long as you not a knob head tho, Yeah can you chuck me some advice on motors an batteries, How much if you don't mind saying an where to get them from? Plz, Top scooter tho mate, Sort of gutted I gave welding up years ago now, used to weld balistrade an fences 15 years ago that is lol, Yeah top bit of engineering with this scooter, Got my subscription, Top work tho...

      Hi, mid drive(chain) will always win on tq, and efficiency, also you have more choice to gear it how you want. Hubs are more convenient and quiet and simple, but put the weight in undesirable spots. now some very expensive hubs motors like for qs that go into motorcycles - those are really high speed but very expensive.
      All this stuff is expensive, main reason is shipping is about the same price as product.
      It’s hard to make any money on selling these because when you add up the cost and time , only a select few will buy something that expensive. Batteries are still the main issues with cost because you don’t want to get bad quality there

      @@RexSmithII I hear you, I am now being told here in the UK police are taking electric scooters off people with a fine an points on licence, Even the high powered bikes like the Sur Ron's are being taken off people, Apparently if it got pedals it's OK to use, Can you believe the police are taking electric transport of people while climate is causing floods an fires worldwide, Gets me bit worried with the UK being a little island, I am buying a mountain bike tomorrow an then a motor, Looks like I will have to get hub motor, I live on a 3rd floor, So 3 flights of stairs to get up, If the weight is on the back it will be easier to carry up steps, My monster scooter weighs 36kg an I gets that up the steps, I see it as a little fitness exercise lol, I am looking forward to busting a little electric bike project of I'm honest, cheers for the reply an the honesty with prices, Electric motors are expensive buy you do pay for what you get, I read the QS motors are favs for electric bikes ect, Nice one for the reply tho yeah, Keep safe too.......

      @@mad-b264 too bad on the police and scooters,
      I remember when flying drones was so easy then I said to my self “ something will change soon” and sure enough with in a year they made it where you have to have like a license to fly drones. That’s what got me into this electric stuff was building race drones, back in 2017. I made a bunch, one reaching long distance and able to gl about 130mph

      @@RexSmithII Yeah man, Proper, Can get some amazing shots using a drone, I seen a video some looking like a UFO, lol, But you can actually see its a drone, You got some engineering skills that's for sure, They already making drones for humans to fly, If you rich that is, It's basically a car frame with 2 underneath and above fans on each side, A giant drone basically lol, Yeah that's madness you need a licence for drones, You could do delivery using a drone, Social distancing at the same time if a person is isolated, But people couldn't do that coz of no drone licence, How do you even get a license for a drone, Go to to flight school or something lol, But yeah drones are going to be used for all sorts in the near future, If you can afford the new tech that is, lol....
      Unless you like yourself then the skills will come in handy for you, lol......

    Why not make the busbars from copper?

    • @RexSmithII
      @RexSmithII  2 роки тому

      Copper was just too expensive and harder to find in the type, aluminum has great conductivity too( you won’t tell a difference), the only real issues with aluminum is galvanic corrosion, that’s were you have two different metals. They make a special Grease for this. It’s normally the negative side of the cell that’s copper and the positive is aluminum. Aluminum is a great heat sink also.
