Jesus Christ this is interesting as hell. Unreal that chris would write such beautiful songs just based on titles and then take the risk of them not even finding those songs . And little did he know that a 12-13 year old me would rent this movie and hear "seasons " play in the background during that scene as the main male character walks alone down a street and I set upright from my bed with wide open eyes and said to myself "what the fuck is that !? This sounds amazing ." And years later , I'm no longer in a band , a solo artist , I use seasons as a go to when playing and singing covers . Chill bumps
One of my favorite movies and vocalist. I had the privilege to watch him in concert in 2008 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in San Francisco. Rest in Heaven Chris 💗💗💗
Favorite movie..ever- I moved to Seattle in 1994 thinking id live the movie...a little different and I didnt stay, but 1994 was a fun year to be in Seattle and it was a giant learning experience. gonna break out my Docs and flannels now...
Cliff Poncier went from "Touch Me I'm Dick" to "Seasons" "Spoonman", "Nowhere But You" and "Flutter Girl"? He would have been praised in more places than just France and Belgium! Seriously though, this is such a great story! I first heard Seasons in 11th grade and I would not rest until I learned it. I figured it out, by ear, in one night and I was so proud of myself and it felt so good to play it that it just inspired me to continue learning and creating music. His creativity inspired my creativity for years and years.
Wow! Chris Cornell was a truly gifted artist ! The lyrics , the voice , the stage presence ! Whatever he did was always excellent ! I never knew about this , Thanks for posting ! CC you'll be forever missed and thanks for all the years ! ❤️
Great story. A very old one, which a lot of fans of both Chris Cornell and the movie Singles have been aware of for decades. I know I first read about the song Seasons background in a RS magazine article in the early-mid 90's. Never heard it told directly from the primary sources though, very cool. 😊
Chris Cornell still goes down as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest lyricists of all time. It's hard to pay attention to how good his lyrics are sometimes because of how good his voice sounds, but when you do pay attention, ho-ly shit
Subbed! Great channel for gen xers that lived the nineties, specially the "grunge" era, Soundgarden was my favorite of 'em, miss Chris dearly, can't still deal with the fact that he passed away, This vlogs are awesome, long live His memory, his art and legacy
Wow so Andy Wood putting demo cassettes in stores inspired Jeff to do it for the movie with his own made up titles, which then Chris wrote songs for including Seasons and Spoonman. That is mindblowing.
Andy was the sun and had that gravity So much starts with him. The more you learn, the you realize why his passing was so crushing He wasn't just about talent It was elan galore and je ne sais quoi
Went to see the movie when it came out. Hated it but when it was over, I went down the street and bought the soundtrack on the strength of this song. Still love it to this day 💜
Chris Cornell:… Yeah I didn’t spend any time of the songs just knocked them out of my four track… Cameron Crowe: … This guy must’ve dug really deep, it was some of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard! Cornell was one of those guys who was absolutely on a different level…
As my favorite singer in any genre of music, the tragedy of it all still hasn't sunk in. He was obviously still passionate and hungry in his writing, which most artists with a lengthy successful career seem to lose! Depression runs rampant it seems! Please keep an eye on your friends and family, and try to talk to someone if you're feeling down! ✌✌✌
Don't believe the hype Pete, Chris was murdered and as soon as his friends start growing some balls, the charade will be over and VK will be in prison or she'll do us all a favor and hang herself. DIRTY BLACK WIDOW
The story of how Cameron got the tape is classic CC. From SPIN Magazines Oral History of Badmotorfinger: "Hallerman: Around Thanksgiving, Chris wrote the Poncier tape [a five-song, solo compilation demo for the film Singles]. A month before that he did Temple of the Dog, a whole different album with beautiful singing and expression and stuff. He did that during the writing of Badmotorfinger. Thayil: The Poncier thing was probably a consequence of the work he was doing with Temple of the Dog and Badmotorfinger. Basically, he’s coming up with a number of musical ideas and lyrical ideas, melodies, and guitar parts. He knows what will work with the guys from Mother Love Bone, and he’s showing them songs. He knows what will work with me and Matt and Ben. The idea that he took these song titles and then concocted, overnight, five interesting musical pieces, is probably not likely the case. It’s probably musical ideas that were being generated all along during this period of time. He was always playing guitar and recording ideas. Cameron Crowe (Director, Singles): [My ex-wife] Nancy [Wilson] went out to a club, while I stayed home in Woodinville. She ran into Chris who gave her the [Poncier] tape. He said, “Here’s what you wanna do. Go home and tell Cameron you ran into some guy on the street who was busking and had a cassette to sell, and that you bought it and brought it home.” So, she did that. And I looked at the cassette and it had all the fake titles from [Pearl Jam bassist] Jeff Ament’s little art piece copy that he had done for the movie Singles. It was like, “What? What is this??” So, I put it on, and it was Chris. I couldn’t believe how fully realized it was, and how different it was. How elegant. I loved all the songs, but “Seasons,” stood out from the first listen with that Zeppelin, open-tuning vibe. It was like, “Holy crap!” It was the best thing I’d heard in a really long time. It was a facet of Chris that I wanted to use; this rich vein of Chris’s solo impulses. Stuff that’s not particularly Soundgarden, but very personal and him. It quickly went from mind-blown, to how can we make this part of the sound of the movie?" Freaking epic and so very Cornell
This is amazing. Thanks to whomever posted this.Does anyone know what year this was made? Chris accepted a challenge and ran with it. So fucking talented and inspiring! SEASONS! Fantastic song. I'll look for you in heaven Chris..
Then again, there's this so ??? Anyway, the direct's in the middle of the night for me so I'll see the news when I wake up (or you can @ me on twitter), BUT if nothing gets show, please don't be disappointed! Remember, good things come to those who wait! Today's video will be live AFTER the showcase as well so stay tuned!
Awwww ya sweetheart. Need some money haha. It's all still moving along like a fucking snail. Waiting for this damn quarantine to end sis. But in the mean time I've been writing with sam, a dude ive known since I was 3 lol. Got atleast 6 songs down. Pretty happy with it. How are ya holding up out there ma sistah? .. will all be over soon. X×x 💛👊👑
i never cared much for latter day performances from chris because of the way his voice and singing changed, but this performance of Seasons made me realize that his older voice was still well-suited to a song like this in particular. kinda has me wishin he went for a more stripped down folky lo-fi old man thing after Euphoria Mourning rather than audioslave or still trying to belt out all the old hits and make polished sounding new shit with a cracked voice.
He did! Check out Songbook and especially his last album, Higher Truth. They are beautiful, his voice sounds amazing, and very much like Seasons, Sunshower, the Keeper, etc.
I love that people are still searching out content like this. I'm not alone.

Hardest thing about this was finding the right tuning. It's always so rewarding to play.
The inspiration of Poncier
That Poncier cassette is more memorable and legendary than the movie it was featured in.
I guess we all should thank Jeff....we miss you Chris!!
Some much done through an empty cassette box. Beautifully inspirational
I miss that dude sooo much.. its sickening what happened to him

God I miss Chris. I actually have a picture of myself on the very steps of that apartment where he was standing. Love the show Signals.
I walked past that building all the time when I lived in Seattle.... memories...
Cheri Angelique Baldi. Cool it pretty much looks the same.
That's true. The water fountain was no longer there at the time I lived there, but yeah.... it does look the same....
You had an appointment lol" thats cool.
James Patrick. Good one. I did not even notice that I made a typo. Thanks
Perfect...
Thanks for posting this.
I haven't seen the movie, but I do LOVE this song.
Wow, how did you miss this movie? Fix that
Chris Cornell:… Yeah I didn’t spend any time of the songs just knocked them out of my four track…
Cameron Crowe: … This guy must’ve dug really deep, it was some of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard!
Cornell was one of those guys who was absolutely on a different level…
Man, what I woulddnt give to hear the original tape he made and left for Cameron..
The songs are on the deluxe edition of Singles soundtrack issued in 2017 (double CD) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie.
I had that movie on VHS my late friend last borrowed it. Fun movie been awhile.
Just adds to his creative genius that we all were fortunate enough to witness. Fucking Chris..... miss ya brother...... see ya on the other side......
Just found this channel. As someone who was 19 in 1991 all I can say is FUCKING AWESOME!
Thanks so much for sending me such an informative video.
Love this ep, I added the outtakes ferry boat and score piece from the singles anniversary edition to this.
Legend
Incredible.
I had no idea. Blown away, one of my favoritesongs and I had no idea. It made so many mix tapes back in the day. I love UA-cam.
Seasons is probably my favorite Cornell vocal performance. None of the ear bleeding screaming, just a smooth voice showing great range.
I wonder if the people in that room knew they were listening to something that maybe 5 people in the world could sing.

I have sat on those stairs! The whole yard is much more tiny in real life. It was fun to go there.
